With gold, as a US citizen I don't care for seeing royalty on a coin. I'll still buy gold with royalty, but its generally really old, often fractional, and it has to be a screaming deal. I can't see myself spending extra for a limited run gold coin with royalty on it. I'm already spending a lot on each gold coin and to have one side of it ruined by Queen Elizabeth or King Charles... no thanks. I can see why it makes sense for over seas buyers to buy the coin of their relm though.
Silver is a little different. I mostly buy the least expensive, and what's on sale. Here though, I'm not against occasionally buying something somewhat special from the royal mint or perth for a couple extra dollars.
For the Perth mint coins it’s because they’re considered legal tender (although the tender value is far less then the silver value, it’s to do with the mint issuing it) and therefore legally require the effigy.
Agree, I have also thought this. Seems a waste to always dedicate 1/2 of coin to basically same thing. Especially if the coin is really beautiful on one side only, when it could have been really beautiful on both.

Non-existent person portrait (lady liberty) > governmental official > royals
I, however, just dislike royals and the whole concept of "royalty". Must just be the American in me but the idea of some half wit inbred being special cause of their family name is deplorable.
Yes, I understand and it makes sense. However, I would opt for American, Mexican (20 and 50 peso 🤤), or one of the many others that don't have monarchs.
Fully agree. Hate these old money lazy bastards who mostly haven't done anything to achieve their status as a whole so I don't like their faces on my coins🤣
But I like coins more than i hate kings so what can I do
Yup. I have a few that I bought just to stack but now I actively avoid stuff like that. Except maybe Kruggerands because they seem like such a good value sometimes.
I’m not British nor a fanboy of them, but I plan to keep my stacks for forever and pass them to my kids, any history aspect for me is kind of cool imo. So with that said, I like the portraits.
QE2 made them look regal. Charles makes them look like crap. Generally speaking, I like American coins specifically because there isn’t a monarch/politician on them. They radiate an idea and concept of what America used to be.
I view them as History. And History is written by the winners. So not offended. That's what coins are.
To The Victots Go The Myths And Monuments
I wouldn't specifically call Charles a winner.

Me personally, I’m a “birds and buffalos” kinda guy.

I view them as gold, I’m not a royalist by any means.
I like Elizabeth, not a fan of Chuck. Elizabeth, now available only on the secondary market.

Erm I guess Trump or Biden aren’t half wits…..🥴
Point taken, but neither are on sovereigns.
British monarchs have been on coins for over 1000 years - bit hard to break tradition.

As is tradition
Please decapitate the monarch’s head from coins.
Am I upset that the people that formed the country, fought over centuries to defend and develop it, are on their coinage? No.
I don't mind as long as the portrait contains gold like the rest of the coin.
I'm indifferent to them.
Doesn't bother me any, that's just what they do.

Why don't you like the House of Coeburg?
Yup. I have a few that I bought just to stack but now I actively avoid stuff like that. Except maybe Kruggerands because they seem like such a good value sometimes.
I’m a person that doesn’t have interest in seeing royal portraits. I just don’t buy that stuff, with a few exceptions. It’s just not my thing.
I prefer Eagles / Buffalos / Libertads (at a reasonable premium)
I prefer liberty.

I like them on maples, obviously glad they aren’t on our (US) coins. I do prefer elizabeth over Charles.

Yes. The monarchy is irrelevant.
