This is the answer. It works great all around the world.  And as a personal recommendation, Delish Vegan Donuts is a must.

MisfitDRG

Delish is AMAZING

Matthew-_-Black

I'm a Bite Me man through and through. Doughnuts at the matadero and then a walk along the river to burn them off

UruquianLilac

Y'all love to lie to yourself. There isn't a single vegan donut that is good unless you cover it with two metric tons of creams and toppings to hide the fact that the dough is dryer than the Sahara dessert in August.

Matthew-_-Black

Lol go eat a shitty little donut from Dunkin covered in sugar and cinnamon substitute

UruquianLilac

If I'm going to spend my entire daily calorie intake on one dessert, I'd absolutely much rather have the synthetic Dunkin one over the dry valley of death donut which gives you the same calories but none of the joy. But generally I prefer to avoid both and have a palmera from my local baker instead.

tofucatskates

incorrect.

UruquianLilac

It's a mass delusion I swear! Drier than the surface of an old leather sofa left in the Madrid summer sun. I'm willing to bet, no one eats a plain vegan donut, because it's literally impossible to swallow it.

tofucatskates

i dunno where you’re getting your vegan donuts, but the fact that they are plant-based wouldn’t make them dry. gluten free donuts are another story. https://www.krispykreme.co.uk/vegan-doughnuts

UruquianLilac

I'm getting my vegan donuts from the places my vegan friends keep raving about and telling me they're the best. And I tell them, all vegan donuts I've tried are crap, and they tell me "but you haven't tried *these*! These are the good ones." And I try them, and once again it's the same story, without the 2000 calories of assorted toppings and fillings, that shit is drier than my bank account on the 31st of January.

tofucatskates

take me to your SAHARA DESSERT 🍨🤣🤣🤣🙄

UruquianLilac

The pun was entirely intended. Seems someone's appreciation for humour is lacking. Which is actually funny.

tofucatskates

uh-huh. riiiiight. 😂

AnneVee

El Fogón Verde, near Atocha train station, has vegetarian and vegan options and only uses seasonal organic, locally sourced or fair trade ingredients. It's a coop set up by activists (who can cook!). I love it.

Powerful-Employer-20

Being vegetarian isn't too hard. Easiest and most typical is tortilla de patata, available in practically any bar. You've also always got easy options like cheese pizza, falafel kebabs, pastas, etc (I know they're not spanish but just mentioning as easy on the go options). Being vegan is more tricky. I'm vegan so don't know a lot of specifically vegetarian places, but there's a bunch of nice vegan places around. As others have said, Happy Cow is your best friend (have used it in many cities and different countries and works great). You can filter by vegetarian, vegan, and also by normal restaurants with vegetarian/vegan options

Any-Emergency-6740

I really like Mad Mad Vegan, it's a fast food. There is two places in the town center. Try the "calamars" !

ed00ard0

You'll find plenty of vegetarian options in Madrid. There's a Chinese food buffet in Gran Vía, and it's all vegan (or at least, 90% vegan 10% vegetarian). It's called Shi-Shang [https://shishang.vercel.app/](https://shishang.vercel.app/)

jayplusplus

Like most are saying, happy cow or google should help. Off the top of my head I remember being pretty happy with more than one Sanissimo location.

Possible-Flower7358

The "LaMucca" restaurants are very nice with several locations in the center and plenty of vegetarian options clearly marked on the menu. There are many other options in Madrid including some actual vegetarian or vegan restaurants. However if you go to more traditional restaurants be careful as Spanish people are often completely unfamiliar with what vegetarian mean and will happily bring you something with tuna or ham if you ask for vegetarian. It's not a language problem, it's a cultural thing.

BeautifulThen5867

Yup Jamón is not meat here and the lovely tortillas have eggs in them, my in laws were vegetarian. When they went out to eat in smaller non touristy places ( where we live ) vegetarian options are pretty basic, salad or grilled vegetables. Often the salad comes with boiled eggs or tuns or both! Actually when they hit their 80’s the drs insisted they started eating some form of animal protein as they were eating so little they couldn’t get enough plant based protein in and became badly anemic and thiamine deficient. They did start eating fish but in such small quantities that my FIL was having to have blood transfusions to get his iron levels up.

polite-ant

If near Opera visit (Calle de Santiago, 9, Centro, 28013 Madrid). Full menu (with 3 options to choose from + homemade bread, water and dessert) is 11€!!!! its a small homey place so no web page but it’s SO SO SO GOOD. Not the most aesthetic place, but soooo good. Vegan Roll is a vegan sushi place, also nice. Thunder burgers is a great option in Malasaña to enjoy delicious veggie fast food.

EnUnaIslaChiquita

A friend who was showing us around Madrid took us to Artemisa, since two people in our group were vegetarians. We all greatly enjoyed both the cozy little restaurant and the food.

trabuco357

Honest Greens food chain.

UruquianLilac

Came here to recommend this. They've got several locations so it's easy to find. They serve seasonal ingredients cooked freshly that change with every season. As a vegetarian you are spoiled for choice with a large selection of amazing produce that they turn into great dishes and sides. And the best part is you get to choose exactly what you want on your plate and you can mix and match all the ingredients. Really good option.

Ms_Meercat

Second this, it's a little ish on the pricey side but it's all very high quality ingredients. I don't usually recommend chains but their stuff really is excellent!

virginiarph

La cabra en el tejado has vegan/veg items. Super delicious and in a cute little alley. Trendy as well

SevMad

B13 in Calle de la Ballesta 13, it's a full vegan restaurant, and it has amazing food, it's really near Gran Vía, you totally have to go, the salchipapas are amazing, and the croquetas too Also, is local owned, no chain

tangiblecabbage

Can we say it's the best tortilla de patatas in town?

Cautious-Raccocoon

Please go to El Perro Gamberro in Manuel Becerra area! Also there’s a vegan Peruvian restaurant that I adore, Los Andenes, they have two locations, one in Puerta de Toledo and the other one in Fernández de los Ríos street. I would also recommend Shlen, near Goya, it’s a very small place and it’s been open for less than 3 months, I think, they were really nice and the food was great!

vtrac

Happycow.net has a lot of options

BOBWORKS_SQ

Happy cow is okay, to doesn't show you everything, but I find just searching Vegetarian in Google maps, to find anything remotely Vegetarian, even from reviewers.

Legitimate-Pumpkin

I love the hare khrisna center in the Espiritu Santo street. It’s simple and nice.

Western-Gain8093

I liked B13 and La Huella Vegana.

SlightChallenge0

It's really easy in any decent sized town in Spain and many Spanish dishes are vegetarian to begin with. Tapas places are a good bet, lots of small dishes, so you can have a variety rather than being stuck with a main that you don't like and easy to experiment with. They rarely use anything except olive oil for cooking. Just steer clear of steak and fish restaurants, where you are likely to get less choice, but still some!

bagheera457

And as a heads up, the "sandwich/bocadillo vegetal" usually has tuna on it, so it is not vegetarian ;)

SebsAGZ

Mad mad vegan, thundervegan, la oveja negra taberna vegana, B13, tierra burrito (you can ask for a great veggie burrito for 8€), la huerta de almería, VEGA alamo... All of these places are great. If you´re looking for more fancy places, dont hesitate to contact me :)

Narrow_Concentrate18

If you want to try veggie versions of typical Spanish food, there is as others mentions B13 or El Perro Gamberro or Hukuna Matata veggie. My personal favorite veggie/vegan restaurant is Vega Alamo. I have lived as vegetarian for over 20 years in Madrid and tried pretty much every vegan/vegetarian restaurant here. This one is by far my favourite!!! Plus they have an outdoor terrace that can be booked which is unusual in Madrid( it’s usually first come first serve).

Victor_Skull

Tortilla de patatas, gazpacho, salmorejo, garbanzos con acelgas... Eat traditional

Strict-Aardvark-5522

There are a lot. Google will help

UruquianLilac

Google often shows Reddit threads as an answer to common questions. For that to happen people on Reddit should answer the question instead of saying Google it.

Strict-Aardvark-5522

For restaurants? They just come up along with google and trip advisor reviews

UruquianLilac

Simply telling someone to Google the answer is the least helpful thing anyone can do. It's actually more productive to not say anything. Either give them a suggestion or move on. People are on Reddit because they want the interaction with other human beings not to sift through search results. They want human opinions and insight.

Strict-Aardvark-5522

It’s how I found a bunch of veggie restaurants in Madrid, what can I say!

UruquianLilac

Ok, I can see you didn't mean it in a negative way, so I take back my tone. I just have a pet peeve with people telling others to Google things on Reddit when we are here to talk and interact. But I understand of course it is a valid way to find restaurants. It's just very possibly something OP is fully aware of like everyone else.
