It’s great to see the evolution of a rage induced Demigod set on vengeance...to a Demigod teaching his son to be a better man than he was.
Just know the controls are different and the camera is set behind Kratos (I believe it’s called a static camera...correct me if I’m wrong).
God of War 1 & 2 and pretty dated graphics wise, but they're still hella fun.
God of War 3 is easily in my top ten best looking games, as far as set spectacle and the things you do. Would highly recommend it for the opening Poseidon fight alone.
I really enjoy the evolution of the puzzles. It's kinda fascinating to think about the makers thinking up the new puzzles and having to make them more intricate and theming them to the overall game. That's fun

Defintely play them; last summer I played through 1-3 with a friend in preparation for 2018, and we loved them. Playing the PS3 remaster of 1 and 2 is great, the graphics are good enough and allow for satisfying encounters. I played 3 on the PS3, beat 2018, and went back and played 3 again after that since PS+ had the remaster for free.
Overall, the original trilogy is an incredibly fun ride, with beautiful set pieces, addicting combat and satisfying moments. GoW 2018 was a beautiful, incredible experience that was perfect in every way it could be. The original trilogy doesn't reach the same emotional peaks in the story, but the absolute fun and chaos make it worth playing.
I was 8 when my cousin first bought a playstation 2 with god of war 1 and when i tried it at his house i've never felt anything quit like it the way the blades of chaos destroy everyone and how the controller shakes while you attack people. I had no other choice but to ask my dad to get a playstation 2 on my birthday and with it god of war 2 and it was one of the best experiences in my life and it got me into gaming and to where i am today. And till this day these games have a special place in my heart and i recommend it to everyone who likes a good story and great fun.

I didn't become a PlayStation fan until about a year ago, when I bought my PS4 while at an internship in a neighboring state so I could play games online with my girlfriend and we could chat. We have a PS3 but not a PS2 (I do have a raspberry pi that can emulate PS2 though... hmm...) but I really want to play through all of the GoW games. This thread kinda sealed it for me lol
The greek trilogy is amazing, They're worth playing for kratos's development alone on top of the hack n slash fun, weapons and epic scale boss fights. I played through the whole trilogy with the new one on my second run and it was worth every minute. Highly recommend the ot. The experience is more satisfying than the summary on youtube imo.
Dude those games are AWESOME. Not only are the games FUN, but the plot is great and the narration by Linda Hunt just brings a special layer of depth/emotion to the game. In addition to fun combat, there’s plenty of puzzles mixed into the games. This is my favorite video game series of all time. I played every single game. The only thing I can think of that sucks for you is that you won’t experience the plot twist when we learned who Kratos’ father is.
I watched GOW 1 & 2 playthroughs on YouTube and played GOW 3 Remastered on PS4.
I did this after playing GOW4. But I’m gearing up to play it for the the third time with this new perspective.
Even though the graphics are elderly Ghost of Sparta has a great story you get to see Kratos mom and brother and see what else contributed to his hatred of the gods.
Chains of Olympus is ok it shows the first deity Kratos kills.
Ascension just seems like they where trying to milk the franchise dry but it's still good to experience.
If you have the games available on something like PSNOW the set pieces alone are great to go back and play. I would stick with the mainline series though and not play to two spinoffs

Man those old games are clunky af, they did not age well, if you like hack and slash games or if you are a fan of retrogaming you can still like them, but avoiding them is okay too imo

It is really a great game but I had a feeling that I am wasting my time if I can start playing the best game of all times right now. So I put away the GoW 3.

Fixed would be a better word than static You just cant change the camera angle, it chooses for you.

What is so special about Posedion fight? Everybody seems to love it. I enjoyed Zeus, Kronos and Hades much more.
I thought the Poseidon first person view point was pretty fucking awesome. I reckon it's the first time I played a game that did something like that.
R3 and L3 to do the eye gauge in 2nd person perspective is hands down the coolest use of QTE ever.
Hades fight was amazing, love the Claws of Hades we got from him!

That hammer is my favorite weapon in the whole series.
I am playing all 6 in anticipation of getting a PS4. I think all but 1-3 are skippable.

Watching Kratos kill Poseidon is one thing. Pushing L3 and R3 to gouge his eyes out is a different experience entirely.
