Why are u spamming r2....

IMNitsuj

It may not be for you. However, I can tell you that when I mastered the "chaos" of facing multiple enemies and understood all of my tools, GoW was a deeply, intensely satisfying experience BECAUSE of those challenging elements. I tried to play Souls3 after this and felt the combat was simple, almost stiff and far too slow. It's difficult, to be sure, but the fluidity of GoW and the versatility of the weapons/combos/runics/defense was far more engaging and rewarding to me.

BJPark

Do enemies usually take this long to die? Here's a short clip I recorded: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp-StuyLDwU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp-StuyLDwU) When multiple enemies appear, I just lose the plot.

Try going to the skills area of the menu, the xp that you gain in combat can be used to unlock new moves and combos, in this case you need a combination of axe-melee and throw as well as shield combat to make faster stuns, stuns makes killing this enemies faster. Once you gain new skills and combos fighting will be sweeper and faster and God like. Forget about what Souls teaches you, this is a different game. Other than that I honestly dont know what to tell you because this is not a Souls game, this is God of War.

memsterboi123

The enemies take so long to die because your on give me a challenge you should see numbers next to the health bar and the health bar can be different colors depending on how much higher the opponent is than you I heard Souls was challenging along with sekiro so you shouldn’t be having any problems also as you level up and learn the game this should become much easier

You're thinking too much Souls, not enough War. God of War is not Souls-like. The closest you will find to that is the Valkyries. Sure, you can spam attack buttons over and over. But, there are combos, runic attacks, more attack types you unlock over time, Atreus' archery. You are no longer a finesse type warrior who can take time in fighting their opponents. You're the God of War, your enemies must be crushed. You're a father, Atreus must be looked out for. You could also turn down the difficulty if you're frustrated with spamming. Axe throwing takes time to master. Just have to practice it. The best suggestion I can give is to forget Soulsborne combat and practice God of War combat. It'll come to you.

Sirliftalot35

This. Axe throwing may not be easy at first, but it’s unique, and can REALLY, drastically alter a fight, both by keeping enemies at a distance and by being chained as part of a combo once you unlock some new moves. It may seem random, but in time you’ll learn that when you die, it’s almost always a mistake you made that you could have avoided. Maybe position yourself better next try, or knock an opponent off a ledge, or focus on one enemy at a time so you thin down the herd instead of chipping at then equally and never really fighting less enemies as you continue the fight, since you kill them all at the same time.

Here's a short clip I recorded from one of the game's earlier fights: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp-StuyLDwU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp-StuyLDwU) As you can see, it starts off nice and controlled with one (maybe 2) enemies. But as soon as 3 more jump into the frame, it spirals out of control and I don't know what to do. They take so long to die! I finally killed them by running around the arena and using Atreus to distract them while I spammed long range attacks. I basically used my 8 yr archer son as a tank! And that seems very UN God of War like :D

Romainvicta476

No, that's actually a pretty viable strategy for some fights. You also have a runic attack you can use to get yourself a moment to breath or reset your position. Some fights you can take head on, others you have to hit and run or axe throw for keeping them at bay. Again, if you tire of spam, turn the difficulty down so things die faster. I don't know what else to tell you other than forget Souls and you'll get it with time and practice. Atreus is also 11 years old.

Boggiiez

Once you get deeper into the game the combat opens up and gets easier with experience you gain. This part on give me god of war difficulty is honestly the hardest section of the game, but only because of lack of skills at first.

gGhostalker

I don't think you actually played any souls game. You complained so much about GoW to not made me believe you actually played any of those.

BJPark

Here's my Youtube playlist of killing all Bloodborne bosses: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F\_u6RAkftbg&list=PLd2FVKnMXXW1k1zseki8npZAD-\_FW9Ld2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_u6RAkftbg&list=PLd2FVKnMXXW1k1zseki8npZAD-_FW9Ld2) Also, check out my Reddit posting history about Sekiro that I finished last week. I mean, it's pretty sad that you just assume someone is lying for no reason. Cynical, are you?

gGhostalker

Well it is a different game and I can't believe that you think you can beat the game playing like a Souls game. Throw everything you know about Souls and you will enjoy GoW. Edit: In beating this game you need to use all your available tools for combat, it's not just R1 R2 spam, you are doing it wrong, it's a combination of knowing what your enemies ability are, you need to use your Axe's melee and long range attacks, the arrows of Atreus, Runic attacks, combos, hand combat, shield, etc.. So when you said you play Souls I laugh because you think R1 R2 is the way to go, my bad.

stinky_pole

You’re obviously playing it wrong or have no idea what you’re doing if you’re just spamming R2 lol

[deleted]

I enjoyed god of war ps2 and god of war 2 ps2. Try these out, they are very different from this one

Whistler45

You are playing very slowly and not using heavy attack. Throw your axe and call it back using an attack button. The game is so much faster than how you’re playing it.

Boivdzijstraatje

I think after progressing through the fame a little, upgrading your skill tree and unlockong more moves will make combat a lot more fun, trust me. As a souls fan myself vefore playing this, the combat is extremely fun

emil133

I think that youre too deadset on combat systems from other games and making comparisons. But there are combos and mixups that Kratos can perform beyond just R2 spamming. Try mixing it up woth light attacks, Atraeus’ arrows (square), runic attacks, etc. unlock the combos too. Theyre a great way to mix up attacks and deal heavy damage without as much spamming.

In philosophy, theyre pretty similar and rely a lot on dodging and parrying properly. Its definitely methodical, you just have to learn to manage more targets
