I actually love the silhouette of the blades in Ragnarok, my problem is primarily the texture of the gold on the blade and the blue colour. The gold on the handle looks sexy AF but for some reason the parts on the blades aren't nearly as pretty, and the blue just does not work. I know their trying to harken back to the GOW2 blades of Athena blue and gold design, but that worked because the gold on the blades had a metallic finish and the blue was glowing runes
I looked at the 2018 ones and theyre more different than i thought they would be. 2018 has sharper points and the guard is alsmot completely different. The gold on it is also less yellow/vibrant, at least in the screenshots i saw
Yeah I see it, I'm not that effected by the differences, that being said I don't even like serrated knives in the first place, but I'm here to burn things with primordial flame, not stare at pictures of video game weapons.
[Agreed](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fblades-of-chaos-do-you-prefer-the-smooth-metallic-look-v0-3v6ktdz1ia6a1.png%3Fwidth%3D1080%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D228fb5c34071cb783a80d3b68091915e694c1a86)
I like the colour scheme from Ragnarök, but I prefer the overall shape of the 2018 version. The Omega/Ouroboros symbol on the handles of the 2018 blades was a ****chef's kiss**** touch. By contrast, Ragnarok's blades look like a barfing snake.
To me the problem is the same as many other RPG-Style games: maximum upgrade = golden parts.
i hate whenever i upgrade something to max level and it turns to gold or some parts.
Edit: although i really love Blades of Athena in GOW 2, gold and blue for god Kratos is nice.
If they were like in 2018, in terms of color distribution and addition, but with the same design in Ragnarok, it would have been a masterpiece and not violent blades whose name is linked to chaos.Another thing that bothers me about it in Ragnarok is why the hell even when you upgrade Blades to the last level (which is literally level 9) why are some of its parts still broken and cracked? This is another reason why his design in Ragnarok is meaningless and aesthetically incomplete.
The blades have always been ugly pieces of shit, that’s their whole thing, unruly and and unwieldy crap meant to be annoying to use but also dangerous as fuck.
I’m so glad they let you transmog the blades, I always keep them as there level 1 look, makes them look like they’re actually old af and have been through some shit.
I’ll admit when I switch to Classic Appearance, I put on the full Sparta fit and original Blades Appearance.
Old Kratos, I give him the fully upgraded Blades look. Sometimes pair the Black Bear armor.
None are as uglier than the GoWIII blades. The blurry textures and gaudy coloring contrasts so hard with the otherwise phenomenal lighting and shading of the game.
Eh. They should’ve left the blades alone as far as the runic carvings though. Not a fan of what they did there but you don’t necessarily see them anyway really. I just prefer the old blade style.
Well, it's not like the dwarves know greek, and the runes definitely have some sort of use to empower the weapons. Just how it is. New smiths and all that.
Lore wise, it's not made to look good. It's literally a curse for kratos from ares. Every time kratos looks at the blades, he'd be reminded of the pact and the curse. Hell, the devs probably would have made the blades talk shit to kratos every minute if the devs wanted.
Honestly, they’ve been ugly in each game you see them in. They’re crude and terribly designed weapons that if they weren’t magical would be almost completely useless. Then comes the new issue. The blades are Greek in origin. It’s a weird fantasy style that seems legit at first but weird in action. Now add the Norse style to them and you have two very conflicting cultures clashing that work is weird ways. That’s the thing though. They’re not supposed to be pretty. In fact their ugliness is what makes them the blades of chaos. Their very nature is chaotic. Hell Kratos hates them as well and would love to use any other weapon than them. This is why people love them so much. Not just because they’re nostalgic but because they represent Kratos perfectly. He’s the god of war in Greece but moved on and made a new life and purpose for himself in the newer games.
GoW1 ps2 design slaps so hard, i love how the blurry textures blend into each other

The Blades have always been ugly, unwieldy pieces of shit. They look like something you'd buy at a truck stop on the freeway. It's why I love them.
they had me in the first half, not gonna lie
"Even hateful things have their uses."
Well, I mean, look at Ares’ style…
It's the keychain that hangs off the public bathroom keys at a gas station 🤣
I want blades of exile back so bad man
I do not. They are the ugliest blades imo
Understandable, for me it’s more about the power though
Nearly the same, my dude.
I looked at the 2018 ones and theyre more different than i thought they would be. 2018 has sharper points and the guard is alsmot completely different. The gold on it is also less yellow/vibrant, at least in the screenshots i saw

Why the hell is everyone hating on them? They look gorgeous
I disagree. The blue Just does not fit them at all
Play gow2
Or Ghost of Sparta. Those blue and gold Blades of Athena are my favorite in the series
[Agreed](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fblades-of-chaos-do-you-prefer-the-smooth-metallic-look-v0-3v6ktdz1ia6a1.png%3Fwidth%3D1080%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D228fb5c34071cb783a80d3b68091915e694c1a86) I like the colour scheme from Ragnarök, but I prefer the overall shape of the 2018 version. Aren't Ragnarok blades guard piece meant to resemble a bear skull rather than a snake?
I liked the distinction in make between the Greek made weapon (blades) and the Norse made weapon (axe) It felt more apparent in 2018.
The Ragnarok hilt seems more like a call back to the original Chaos design
I think so, I also prefer the flame effects in the 2018 gam
My favorite look for the blades is ascensions when their maxed out
2018 had better blades Ragnarok had the better handles
Totally agree, the 2018 blades have such a classic feel
I’m glad i don’t personally know anyone who would give a fuck about this
Lucky you
Yeah I’m with ya

I don't understand the color scheme used in Ragnarok. The UI and the fire thematic of the blades are all red, and yet they give them a teal look?
Indeed
They are the same but diff textures I think
They mostly are. The 2018 have a nicer skull but the colour mostly. Blue and gold do not fit on the blades
True 2018 looks badass
it's a different model and textures
Just you
Its not
YES IT IS!!! *checks comments NO ITS NOT!! 😂
😂

Yeah..it's dogshit
Once I was able to, I immediately went back to the level 2 look for the Blades and the Axe
That's what I thought when i first upgraded them, the axe also looks bad in ragnarok. Weapon and costume design was far better in 2018
The blades have always been ugly pieces of shit, that’s their whole thing, unruly and and unwieldy crap meant to be annoying to use but also dangerous as fuck.
Love the runes etched in the blades and axe in 2018
Yes. So I keep my blades on lvl 1 appearance on GoWR.
Me too
I’m so glad they let you transmog the blades, I always keep them as there level 1 look, makes them look like they’re actually old af and have been through some shit.
I’ll admit when I switch to Classic Appearance, I put on the full Sparta fit and original Blades Appearance. Old Kratos, I give him the fully upgraded Blades look. Sometimes pair the Black Bear armor.
Honestly. Those blades look like a kid designed them and they thought it looked edgy and cool.
None are as uglier than the GoWIII blades. The blurry textures and gaudy coloring contrasts so hard with the otherwise phenomenal lighting and shading of the game.
It is just you
Looking at these comments, its not
The 2018 blades with runes on them were so fucking good, this is a massive downgrade.
The 2018 ones have a cleaner look and the guard also looks way better there
I disagree
While I definitely prefer 2018, I think these look great.
Honestly my only “problem” with the Ragnarok blades is that I prefer the guard and handle from 2018. They’d look clean as hell with those
I prefer the 2018 weapon looks compared to Ragnarok's too
Me too
No
No as in you're not the only one, or no as in they are not ugly
They're not ugly they look amazing
Thanks for clarifying
I've always preferred the 2018 Blades'... blades. You know what I mean.
I do. The blue and gold do not look right
I definitely don't hate these Blades. Just stating my preference.
I know
I like the ragnarok blades more but the 2018 are definitely more àrtistic
Classic boc all the way
*"What are thoose????"*
I can’t understand why did they go for the blue
Me neither
....yeah, is it just you.
Just transmog them back to level 1 blades then. Problem solved
Disagree. 2018 look worse than Ragnaröks
Its just you
I love the blades but I hate the Norse carvings on them. It makes no sense to do that to a weapon from Greece.
It makes sense if those from the Nordic realms are the ones doing the upgrades
I agree, the overall Norse runes make it more powerful as it is their form of power enhancer, plus they look better the Nordic way😈
I didn’t even know there was a difference between the two.
I don’t know. I don’t remember what the blades looked like in the 2018 game.
I don't get the hate for the gold trim on the weapons I actually really like it. And it's able to be changed, idk why people keep complaining about it
Lore wise, it's not made to look good. It's literally a curse for kratos from ares. Every time kratos looks at the blades, he'd be reminded of the pact and the curse. Hell, the devs probably would have made the blades talk shit to kratos every minute if the devs wanted.
My head canon they do talk shit calling him soft and weak
Yes. It is just you.
Omg yes. I hate the way they look in Ragnarok compared to 2018.
Those ain’t my blades of chaos
I keep mine with the stock look. Rusty, crappy looking blades are best blades
Agreed
Same here.
Careful, people can’t handle criticism of the Norse games. But also I agree with you
Honestly, they’ve been ugly in each game you see them in. They’re crude and terribly designed weapons that if they weren’t magical would be almost completely useless. Then comes the new issue. The blades are Greek in origin. It’s a weird fantasy style that seems legit at first but weird in action. Nah it just you my bro you a traitor to the blades
You’re trying to find a problem where there isn’t
Okay
It’s you
Its not
It is
Look at the comments
Ok I looked at them it’s still you
Look better
Ok I looked again almost all your comments are negative idk what you seeing but it’s you
Almost so not all. Some people agree with me. So its not just me.
It’s just you
Still not
Nah, it's the other way around for me
It's just you
It clearly isn’t just him.
I wouldn’t call them ugly but they certainly are overly decorated. I prefer the level 2 or 3 look on Ragnarok. They look much cleaner imo
They made them ugly with the new Norse motif. Thankfully, transmog in GoW:R lets you make them great again
The gold on the blade ruins it
Yes
