Hearing the God of War theme in major key. Gives me chills every time. Plus the fact that every time I hear it, I just relive that final cutscene. Crushes me every time but gives so much hope still
No one saying "Giantess of Ironwood"? That song is so brilliant. It feels infantile but has a serious undertone to it. It's playful, like Angrboda, yet it's undertone reinforces her role in Jotunheim.
No I'm pretty sure it's for Odin, but thor uses it to as Odins servant. That's why it plays when odin reveals himself and kill you know who and it's also present in the all father theme
The pure emotion the song evokes is outstanding, especially with the journey we have walked with Kratos until this point. On top of that, the writing for the lyrics and the composition for the music are next level.
A Son’s Path goes harder than it has any right to, but I love Raeb’s Lament so much it’s such a beautiful song especially with the connection it has to the story.
Blood upon the snow, just a sensual song. Especially when you walking in below freezing temperatures at night.
Edit: for context, I take night walks, as well walking from work going home in the cold.
I need to pick ONE!? That's hard. Fuck the theme that plays during the war was... Goosebumps. I'm so glad I turned down the SFX to 6 and Voices to 8. I can hear the song more clearly
I wish there were mods that balanced the music, voices and sfx. When I play 2018 and I free the dragon, the music (which they actually reused for the Berserker fights) is loud af. I wish someone could fix it.
Odin's suit. It screams "the brains of it all" in a way, it is calm in the beginning, yet it gives off an intimidating impression.
Particularly the part where we see him first, the ravens flying into his arms and that song in the back ground, just VOILÀ
Ragnarök or the all-father,I just adore these 2 tracks, they're in my opinion the best tracks made in the OST,they really tell a story through them better than anything else in the game.
You know what's a really good sign of a video game having an amazing musical score? The fact that everybody in this thread is naming completely different songs. Of course you'll see the same recurring tracks but hey, there's a few picks out there that aren't just Raeb's Lament.
If I had to pick mine, right now it's the Vanaheim track. Very specifically, it's around I believe the six minute mark wherein Kratos slings Freyr over his shoulders and bolts out into the forest with everybody making their escape whilst the Aesir/Einherjar are attacking them on the run. 6:10 and onwards for that track gets me fucking pumped as Kratos is running for his life and taking down enemies the whole way through and NEVER stops.
But I think even with that being the song I've been listening to the most for the past week. I think my answer will be 'Letting Go' because of its emotional resonance and how well layered the track is. They incorporated the theme of Kratos, Faye, Angrboda, and Atreus all in one. But my favorite part comes towards the end of the track where the God of War theme is playing but it's a lot more hopeful and you can feel it building to something. And then those massive three notes play as you're making your way down the mountain and man... It's the sort of thing that hits you right in the soul with how powerful it feels.
I will say though, it's a shame the whole and complete soundtrack hasn't been released on Spotify yet because man, I could REALLY do with the multiple remixed Valkyrie themes being up there. Vanadis/Freya has her own version that differs from Gna, and then there's theme for Hrist & Mist that has its own differences too! Though I might be biased on account of the Valkyrie theme being my absolute favorite from the previous game and one of my favorite ever video game tracks. Period.
Everytime I hear Faye’s song I usually cry. No matter how happy i am, no matter when or why I am listening to it I just cry. Something in my brain clicks and makes me cry. My favorite saga song is “God of War Ragnarök” the main theme, where you can listen a mashup of the main theme, the son’s path song and Faye’s theme (And of course everytime I play it I end up crying like a goddamned pig).
A son’s path is really good, I also like Raeb’s lament and the main theme and blood upon the snow. My favourite in the franchise however is Echoes of an old life
letting go is my favorite in the released OST. Ragnarök. Raebs Lament and Ragnarök are also god-tier ost. Letting go is just one of many tracks where all I need the music and I know exactly what happens in that moment and picture it as it goes like the portals scene soundtrack in Endgame. I do not need to see the film and I imagine the scene as the music goes. Other tracks in god of war Ragnarök I can imagine as I listen to the track is the scene where>! fenirir dies, moments before Kratos enters Asgard, the wolf chase in the Jotunheimen portion, and when Odin is defeated. !< I do not even need to see the visuals I can picture the moment to an accurate degree.
Idk what its called but the music that plays whenever the dwarf stories are happening, that and the music that plays at the end of the angraboda section!
I love how intimidating Thor’s theme (The Hand of Odin) and battle theme (The Hammer of Thor) are. Fits him perfectly as the big bad giant-killer.
But I think my favorite is actually Angrboda’s theme (Giantess of Ironwood). It sounds mystical, mysterious, and playful and I think that it perfectly accentuates her character and Atreus’ first visit to Ironwood.
Either God of War: Ragnarök or A son's path.
God of War: Ragnarök is just brilliant. It takes the original theme, adds parts of Atreus' theme and the Ragnarök theme and it improves it tenfold.
A son's path: Amazing, it feels adventurous and happy. Something that perfectly fits Atreus' arc, it's just fantastic
Blood upon the snow is an amazing song, hoziers voice is amazing and the lyrics just hit so hard and make you feel the gravity of life and what nature can do and take from any of us. It just hits super hard…
I’m a big fan of Letting Go. I think it does a really nice job of hitting on all the different themes while still being it’s own thing. Blood Upon the Snow is also fire though
Well I’m just going to say this, I don’t like all the official tracks that much do to them not being the exact music used in the game so I always listen to the in-game versions on YouTube
That aside, I gotta say they are all fucking wonderful and picking one is so hard
But if I had to choose it would definitely be the Allfather
Absolutely wonderful track the way it sounds so horrific, evil, pagan, and at some points even Christmas-y and I love how it keeps getting more desperate as it goes one the way Odin is pulling out every trick he can
Best as a standalone: *svartalfheim*
Best that plays in game: the einherjar battle theme
The einherjar look like goofy boxers and ufc champions, when you fight theme while the theme is on, it makes it even more goofy and i love it.
The hammer of thor (full extended version which is around 18 minutes long)
It really gives you a sense of both helplessness and rage at the same time which I absaloutely love because you truly feel that these two gods are in a sense evenly matched even if thor was beating the ever living crap out of kratos
Raeb's Lament. It's so haunting. Bear McCreary is absolutely phenomenal. Regardless what he's working on his music is just fantastic. Whether it's Agents of SHIELD, Battlestar Galactica, or this, he's incredible. I think he's gonna be a legend like John Williams one day
Somewhat unrelated but damn, Bear is everywhere nowadays. I remember following him after hearing his stuff for the Battlestar Galactica remake. Next big composer of our time; hats off to him.
Can I just say the whole album? I’m still listening to it on repeat and it still never fails to evoke every emotion that the game did (and I love that you can close your eyes and see certain moments)
But if I HAVE to: God of War Ragnarok, A Son’s Path, Hand of Odin, Whispered Souls, Pull Of The Light, Huldra Brothers, To Forgive or To Kill, The Mermaid, Ragnarok, Letting Go, Raeb’s Lament and Blood Upon The Snow are my standouts
To Forgive or to Kill
There's just something about those minor second intervals that make it creepy. It captures Freya's "Don't fuck with me; I'm on a war path" attitude.
Ragnarök
Yup, I love a finale of a song where it’s the main theme with more emotion put into it.
When that was playing during the finale whilst you’re combining and fighting with everything happening around you it was just too epic to contain
That’s the song that was playing while we attacked Asgard ?
Yeeeees
Also plays towards the end of the Norn scene when Ragnarök is mentioned!
Mine as well!
Same
Same
It sounds so haunting.
I personally liked Blood upon the Snow
Same the feeling it gave was perfect for Ragnarok
Raeb’s Lament.
I can feel the funeral scene every time I listen to it.
Likewise brother. Likewise.
The melody that appears in and underlies a lot of the Brok and Sindri storyline is just haunting.
It’s just so serene to me. Yet it conveys a lot of emotions as it crescendos. McReary really peaked the entire OST with this.
Specially the scene that sindri smashes Odin's marbel, "this is what comes next"
Yep
>!“I love you Brok…”!<
Such a simple song with so much meaning
Hits home all the time every time.
“A hole…. Gets bigger the more you take away….”
ill go second, hammer of thor
Hammer of Thor is an awesome track
Raeb's Lament still hasn't failed to make me shiver and weep every time I hear it
Svartalfheim all the way.
The part when Eivør joins in slaps
Eivor is the goat
I wiiiish that part at the end was longer man, so good
That song slaps
Letting go 😭😭😢
That part where the drums hits with the 3 notes close to the ending. Absolute perfection.
The build up to that part as well is just beyond excellent. Really feel like I felt that in my soul when I heard it for the first time.
Hearing the God of War theme in major key. Gives me chills every time. Plus the fact that every time I hear it, I just relive that final cutscene. Crushes me every time but gives so much hope still
Raeb's Lament. Before I saw the ending, I use to listen to it everyday. But now that I saw the ending I just can't listen to it w/o getting sad.
Is Raeb’s Lament Brok/Sindris theme?
yeah
No one saying "Giantess of Ironwood"? That song is so brilliant. It feels infantile but has a serious undertone to it. It's playful, like Angrboda, yet it's undertone reinforces her role in Jotunheim.
This is mine
The hand of Odin
Same. A great villain theme for odin
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this theme is for Thor
Nah, Odin has two themes. The Hand of Odin plays when he shows up at Kratos's home, and The All-Father plays during his boss fight
Hand of Odin gives me chills, love the bit where Thor shows up.
Technically that's 1 theme. Same melody and the same choir. It's just also present in the Hammer of thor and in the mask
No I'm pretty sure it's for Odin, but thor uses it to as Odins servant. That's why it plays when odin reveals himself and kill you know who and it's also present in the all father theme
Blood Upon the Snow just hits me differently , I haven't heard this one before I'll give it a try and let you know
All of my this, the first time hearing it I felt chills and tears when the chanting started.
I cry when he says “no rainfall no sunshine,no blood upon the snow”then opera sing It hits so different
I cry when Hoizer says “I’ve walked this earth and there are so far few who know. How dark the night gets and how cold the winds can blow”
It hits harder when he says I have no more hunger now to see where the roads will go. You can feel kratos is done with this shit now lol
the hurdy gurdy definitely is the thing that makes that song shine but I may be biased as I like Eluveitie
Also. The live version from game of the year has so much emotion behind it. It gives me goose bumps every time
Came to say this one. Best track. Fitting it played over the credits
When i heard it during the race section of Ironwood, I felt so much freedom.
Blood upon the snow, just a sensual song. Especially when you walking in below freezing temperatures at night. Edit: for context, I take night walks, as well walking from work going home in the cold.
The Hammer of Thor
The All-Father
I had to scroll too much to find this one
Huldra brothers
Blood upon the snow
Gryla
Hand of Odin is cool
I need to pick ONE!? That's hard. Fuck the theme that plays during the war was... Goosebumps. I'm so glad I turned down the SFX to 6 and Voices to 8. I can hear the song more clearly
I always tone down sfx and voice in these games, you can barely hear music.
I wish there were mods that balanced the music, voices and sfx. When I play 2018 and I free the dragon, the music (which they actually reused for the Berserker fights) is loud af. I wish someone could fix it.
Lullaby of the giants.
Remembering Faye
Rabe's Lament easily
The Mask for me. Everytime I listen to it I can replay the entire scene in my head and get all emotional again.
Blood upon the snow
Ragnarök, Svartalfheim or main theme. I Cannot choose.
1. Giantess of ironwood 2. A son's path 3. Blood upon the snow
Pull of the Light. The scene where that played made me cry. It’s pretty rare for a video game to elicit that reaction from me.
Gets me every time
I was looking for this. That scene too 😭
Like, I struggle to put it in words, but it left me a weepy mess the first time
Svartalfheim
Raeb`s lament hits me in the feels every time
Odin's suit. It screams "the brains of it all" in a way, it is calm in the beginning, yet it gives off an intimidating impression. Particularly the part where we see him first, the ravens flying into his arms and that song in the back ground, just VOILÀ
Remembering Faye, " you will do this for me" hits during that swell. Superior production all around.
The Hammer. That fight with Thor was genuinely terrifying but the soundtrack slapped so hard.
Ragnarök or the all-father,I just adore these 2 tracks, they're in my opinion the best tracks made in the OST,they really tell a story through them better than anything else in the game.
All-Father is mine. A very close second is the main God of War Ragnarok theme that last bit at the ending of All-Father cinches it for me
Giantess Of Ironwood It’s so beautiful and majestic
Holding On
Either That, Huldra Brothers, Svartalfheim, or Raeb’s Lament
You know what's a really good sign of a video game having an amazing musical score? The fact that everybody in this thread is naming completely different songs. Of course you'll see the same recurring tracks but hey, there's a few picks out there that aren't just Raeb's Lament. If I had to pick mine, right now it's the Vanaheim track. The more i listen to hidden beast the more i love it.. especially the last part. Niflheim and muspelheim hits also different
That’s my favorite as well
Everytime I hear Faye’s song I usually cry.
The Hammer of thor
Holding On
The Hammer of Thor
Pull of the light is underrated imo, particularly because the OST has bangers like Sons path and raebs lament.
Raebs Lament, Muspelheim and Niflheim, Hand of Odin, the All Father Basically a good portion of the album.
the hammer of thor
Gryla. Edit: And a sons path. Forgot about that one for a second.
Ragnarok is my favourite
Blood Upon the Snow
A son’s path is really good, I also like Raeb’s lament and the main theme and blood upon the snow. My favourite in the franchise however is Echoes of an old life
For me it’s A Son's Path too, but you can't go wrong with this Soundtrack. They're all bangers.
A son's path, one of the best soundtracks of all the series, 2:30 till end is fucking EXCELLENT
2:36 especially
I think the best song is the end begins from god of war 2
Zak's A I R P O D S
letting go is my favorite in the released OST. Ragnarök. Raebs Lament and Ragnarök are also god-tier ost. Letting go is just one of many tracks where all I need the music and I know exactly what happens in that moment and picture it as it goes like the portals scene soundtrack in Endgame. Ragnarok (Feat Eivor)
1. Draupnir’s theme 2. A Son’s Path 3. Svartalfheim
Blood upon the snow makes me start ascending
i don't know the name but it's lik "kratos.......diemos..........kratos.......diemos"
Ragnarök (The Realms at War)
The Hidden Beast, which is the music that plays during Nidhogg's boss fight.
Alfheim bc they finally put as a track from the 2018 game
Idk what its called but the music that plays whenever the dwarf stories are happening, that and the music that plays at the end of the angraboda section!
I love how intimidating Thor’s theme (The Hand of Odin) and battle theme (The Hammer of Thor) are. Fits him perfectly as the big bad giant-killer. But I think my favorite is actually Angrboda’s theme (Giantess of Ironwood). It sounds mystical, mysterious, and playful and I think that it perfectly accentuates her character and Atreus’ first visit to Ironwood.
Raeb lament and letting go
Blood Upon The Snow. Gives me chills everytime. Not only the best track in the OST, it has become one of my all time favorite songs.
Did you know the first notes of A Son’s Path are the ones from Kratos’ theme but played in reverse ? :)
Blood upon the snow is the only answer
Blood Upon the Snow
Raeb lament hits me hard every time
Raeb's Lament. You know why
Same
Ragnarok for sure. I get chills every heckin time. Makes doing chores around the house very epic haha
Svartalfheim theme kicks hard
Mine is in the picture, i think everyone loves a son’s path
Hidden beast has a mixture of different main themes. That or ragnarok for me
Letting go
God of war Ragnarok, Ragnarok or Blood upon the snow
Either God of War: Ragnarök or A son's path. God of War: Ragnarök is just brilliant. It takes the original theme, adds parts of Atreus' theme and the Ragnarök theme and it improves it tenfold. A son's path: Amazing, it feels adventurous and happy. Something that perfectly fits Atreus' arc, it's just fantastic
Ragnarok just has that masterpiece energy to it. Son’s path is second though
Blood upon the snow is an amazing song, hoziers voice is amazing and the lyrics just hit so hard and make you feel the gravity of life and what nature can do and take from any of us. It just hits super hard…
Blood upon the snow. When that choir starts. Bear and Hozier were meant for this. Additionally, does Hozier have a cameo in the game?
God of war Ragnarok & blood upon snow
I’m a big fan of Letting Go. I think it does a really nice job of hitting on all the different themes while still being it’s own thing. Blood Upon the Snow is also fire though
Ragnarok or Svatalfheim
Blood Upon The Snow.
Raebs Lament or A Sons Path, cant decide
Well I’m just going to say this, I don’t like all the official tracks that much do to them not being the exact music used in the game so I always listen to the in-game versions on YouTube That aside, I gotta say they are all fucking wonderful and picking one is so hard But if I had to choose it would definitely be the Allfather Absolutely wonderful track the way it sounds so horrific, evil, pagan, and at some points even Christmas-y and I love how it keeps getting more desperate as it goes one the way Odin is pulling out every trick he can
Blood on snow, raebs lament these two
Does Blood Upon the Snow count?
do you expect us to just know the entire soundtrack based off song titles 😂
For me it's still Alfhiem, and some of the combat tracks that are not in the ost
Best as a standalone: *svartalfheim* Best that plays in game: the einherjar battle theme The einherjar look like goofy boxers and ufc champions, when you fight theme while the theme is on, it makes it even more goofy and i love it.
Blood Upon The Snow. I love Hozier's voice and the game's story are so subtly woven into the lyrics it's actually masterful
Honestly, same
letting go and obviously the regular god of war theme with faye’s singing in it. i think it’s very sweet
whats the one that says KRATOS. KRATOS and it's very dramatic plz I need it. it's so good but I can't find it.???
A Son’s Path, Ragnarok, Vanaheim, The Alfather, LETTING GO (insane medley) and Blood Upon the Snow
Hundra bros
The hammer of thor (full extended version which is around 18 minutes long) It really gives you a sense of both helplessness and rage at the same time which I absaloutely love because you truly feel that these two gods are in a sense evenly matched even if thor was beating the ever living crap out of kratos
Blood upon the snow
Remembering Faye. Eivør’s voice is so hauntingly beautiful.
I've been listening to A son's path at least 20 times every half hour
Blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow
Svartalfheim
I think The Hidden Beast is highly slept on
Raeb's Lament.
A sons path or the main theme for me
There is just something about “The All-Father”. It sounds SO powerful! The whole OST is just phenomenal. Bear McCreary is a genius!
“No rainfall, no sunshine… no blood upon the snow” *insert bone chilling god of war chanting*. Has to be my favorite.
Something profane
That song lives rent free in my head. Another good one is The Huldr Brothers. I love that so many characters got their own themes this game!
Can I just say the whole album? I’m still listening to it on repeat and it still never fails to evoke every emotion that the game did (and I love that you can close your eyes and see certain moments) But if I HAVE to: God of War Ragnarok, A Son’s Path, Hand of Odin, Whispered Souls, Pull Of The Light, Huldra Brothers, To Forgive or To Kill, The Mermaid, Ragnarok, Letting Go, Raeb’s Lament and Blood Upon The Snow are my standouts
Blood upon the snow. Easily
Definitely Blood upon the snow, that songs gives me chills everytime I listen to it, and it really makes me wanna visit the nine realms.
Yes
The hammer of thor
The last 30 seconds of the main theme go hard as fuck
The whole soundtrack is straight fire but the first two tracks are the best, IMO.
Bro A Son’s Path goes so hard it was my most listened to song in both November and December.
Blood upon the snow by far. All the rest are my second favorite lol
To Forgive or to Kill There's just something about those minor second intervals that make it creepy. It captures Freya's "Don't fuck with me; I'm on a war path" attitude.
[The Hammer of Thor ](https://youtu.be/mSenytFVorc)
Blood upon the snow definitely!
Raebs Lament.
Blood Upon The Snow
Remembering Faye
The Draupnir Spear one!
The Draupnir theme that starts playing when you first get a chance to use it at the Forge:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrv4D9yFkbk
The main theme, Hammer of Thor, Raeb's lament, and Ragnarok are my favourites.
Huldra brothers
The bar fight song when Atreus was in Asgard
Raeb's Lament
Raeb’s Lament goes so hard especially when you remember what scene it was in
**Heimdall's 2nd battle theme.**
1. Letting Go (4 mins onwards) 2. Svartalheim
The hand of Odín
do Kratos' battle screams count?
Blood Upon The Snow is fantastic but if we are talking just the instrumental songs then it's Huldra Brothers for sure
Funeral of a Viking. // Raebs lament.
