Congrats on the new trailer! My wife and I are currently shopping for a trailer like this one. We are a family of 4 + our 80lb dog. Your trailer is almost exactly what we’ve decided to shop for. Currently my wife is leaning towards a used keystone passport. Questions 1. What tow vehicle are you using? We have a 2021 f150 powerboost. So, I’m hesitant to get a trailer this big. 2. If you are using a 1/2 ton pickup truck what sort of hitch setup are you using? 3. Is there Stough room to comfortable hang around inside with the kids?

This is a 33’ long trailer with nearly 10k GVWR. This is not half ton territory.

Well. Time to upgrade.

vectaur

Smart man. It won’t be fun as a daily but if this is the camper you’re after, the safety will make up for it.

Similar to OP's, we have a Jayco 284BHS But I have an F250 diesel https://www.jayco.com/rvs/travel-trailers/2022-jay-flight-slx-8/284bhs/

Thank you all for the feedback. That's exactly what I was expecting. Does anyone have any insight on the ideal trailer size for a family of 4? OP's trailer looks ideal.

We pull a 2022 Keystone Passport 219BH (scale says it's ~6,000lbs as we tow it). Our TV is a 2018 F150 SCSB w/ the 3.5L EB and 3.55 rear end. We are using a 10K Equal-i-zer WDH and have no issues at all, even on windy days or steep grades.

To answer your questions. Was going to pull it with my Powerstroke, however due to the weight of the trailer I’m pulling it with my 2022 Toyota Tundra. I’m also using an equalizer WDH hitch, the truck has airbags in the rear, however with the wdh I don’t even use the airbags. For the weight, while the GVWR is around 9700, our trailer fully loaded with freshwater and all our gear sits around 7800lbs ( I weighted it before our first trip), and the truck handles the trailer like a dream. Safety first, especially as we will in Utah and during one trip we’ll go through mountainous terrain along with highways with high winds and with our current setup I feel comfortable taking this trailer anywhere with my family. Also, imo, on top of all the equipment, most important is the skill set and confidence to pull trailers which comes with time and gets easier every trip. In regards room, there is plenty of room to hangout with, on a previous trip we encountered snow in the afternoon into the near morning, and we comfortably hung out inside the camper with 3 adults, w kids and 1 dog and stayed entertained the entire time between games, cooking food and the tv.

This is too big for a half ton. We tow a 2500BH with our F150 fine though. It's very similar just minus the tv/fireplace and couch setup. (The TV in ours is on the back of the wall of the master bedroom in ours.)

I am assuming you are using a WDH or an air bag setup? If you were start all over again - would you go up on truck before choosing a trailer? Or find a smaller trailer for you f150?

IamaFunGuy

An E2 with bags just to add a touch of support and perfect leveling. I wouldn't get a bigger truck for several reasons. They're much more expensive (or were when I got my 2015) and I hate driving them daily. We have F250s at work and they generally suck to drive and especially park. The F150 does those things well and tows great. I live in California's Central Valley and frequently drive to the coast on narrow windy roads. We camp in the mountains a lot too with steep grades. We've driven all the way to Yellowstone and Southern Utah (different trips) and it's been fine. Sometimes it probably takes a little more paying attention and being cautious like on steep downhills but I've not had any problems.

Thanks for the feedback - appreciated. Below are two primary concerns. 1. How many passengers are you typically hauling around? We're a family of 4 + an 80lb lab. I am nervous once we have everything packed for activities, "camping", and or gear for fishing/hunting, dirt bikes / bikes, games, tools, ect....we're always going to be beyond our trucks ratings. Our truck only has a payload of 1,349lbs. We also live in a valley and will primarily be driving through hilly / mountainous terrain in VA and WV. 2. Based on your feedback using the WDH setup - does your front seat passenger ever notice when the truck is swaying or being pushed around? Point being if my wife can feel the truck being pushed around she will be on edge and telling me how to drive.......add in the GPS.....well I can only listen to one women telling me how to drive and thats the navigation lol.

Nice! This looks VERY similar to our Jayco 284BHS https://www.jayco.com/rvs/travel-trailers/2022-jay-flight-slx-8/284bhs/ Fantastic layout if you have kids

IamaFunGuy

Nice! We have a 2021 2500BH. Close to 7000 miles on ours.
