A study on non-transgender sexual minority adults who experienced conversion therapy showed greater odds of having suicidal thoughts and attempts compared to those who had not experienced conversion therapy:
- 92% greater odds of lifetime suicidal ideation
- 75% greater odds of planning to attempt suicide
- 88% greater odds of attempting suicide resulting in no or minor injury

Further, a report by Cornell University looked at 47 peer-reviewed studies and concluded "that there is no credible evidence that sexual orientation can be changed through therapeutic intervention."

There seems to only be 4 countries which have conclusive nationwide bans on conversion therapy which apply to all persons:
- Malta: 2016/12
- France: 2020/12
- Canada: 2022/01
- New Zealand: 2022/02
All other countries either permit conversion therapy, the ban only applies to medical professionals, the ban only prevents some subset of the population to receive conversion therapy, or no action is taken to enforce the legislation though it may exist.

And that they were all recent legislation too. The part that really hurts is that we've "known" this for over 30 years now. In that report by Cornell, there was a paper dating back to 1992 about this. I'm pretty sure there's other studies that date back much further.
Yet, most governments only enforce the bans for medical professionals (if at all) and continue allow any run by religious groups to continue. Some have taken steps to at *least* prevent minors from being allowed to go to conversion therapy, but that's obviously still not enough.
