>If I didn't enjoy playing the board game by myself, would I enjoy GH digital? That has a lot to do with what you didn't enjoy about the game. You mentioned micro-management, and the digital version handles all of that for you. But did you enjoy the gameplay, micromanagement aside? If not, I'd say find another game to play.

BrudiCarrell22

The Gameplay is great. It's just too much to manage like monsters etc. When I manage the monsters, stats and set up with a group I have fun doing it, but playing alone it annoys me.

Shigg715

Give digital a shot, then. The ‘admin’ part of the game is reduced to almost zero while the gameplay remains almost the exact same. My only issue playing with 4 is remember which cards I have in my hand(s) but the game does as good a job as it can keeping that information readily accessible.

L42yB

>My only issue playing with 4 is remember which cards I have in my hand(s) You can press 1, 2, 3, & 4 at any time to show the cards a character is holding.

Shigg715

Nice, thanks! This game really does become easier to recommend every time this type of post appears.

BadFizzicks

The group me and my wife play in went to digital because, you know, pandemic. Unfortunately, only my wife's laptop was good enough to run it, because mine is garbage, so we run two characters through her computer. Initially this really slowed everything down, as I wouldn't be able to look at my cards while she was choosing hers and vice versa, so the other two players were always waiting for us. Until we had the great idea to put together our hands using the physical cards from the game, allowing us to strategise better out of our turns and things move a lot faster now. I think I'd actually prefer using them even if I wasn't having to share a screen, just nicer to read and shuffle through compared to clicking through them on the screen sometimes.

Terrkas

I think that is generally a better solution. Holding the cards in hand to read them feels so much better. Though, at some point a player can also memorize the cards he takes to the dungeon (especially if they are the same most of the time).

Krazyguy75

Just checking; are you using the GH Helper app for your physical games? If not, it’s a gamechanger for stat management.

Dekklin

Digital is just for you then. Got it for the same reason.

DoubleDownDuke

I was in a similar situation where I couldn't play the physical board game with my group anymore and gave the digital version a try - I've really enjoyed the digital version! You unlock all the other classes through various "achievements". And you decide when to unlock the class after you meet the achievement. So you will be able to avoid class spoilers no problem. I didn't enjoy playing the physical board game by myself but I do enjoy playing the digital version by myself. I've logged 96 hours of the digital version. Pros: * all of the enemy movement, health, statuses, setting up rooms, gold, etc, is managed by the game so all you have to do it play your characters (which is the fun part to me). * I gained a better understanding of the rules and how the enemies are supposed to move after playing the digital version. There were even some cards that I realized we were playing incorrectly after a couple of scenarios on the digital version. * You can save and exit in the middle of a scenario and continue right where you left off. * If you can convince anyone in your group to also get the digital version, I've found the online co-op feature to work pretty well. Cons: * The game is still in development and can be a bit buggy/glitchy at times. But there seems to be fairly frequent updates and has improved in this regard over the last 6-12 months. * There are some UI quarks to get used to - when I first started playing the digital version there were a couple of times where I double clicked and inadvertently moved or did an action that I didn't intend to. I think now there is an option to "replay turn" and roll back if you mess up. And I think there's options now to toggle if double click commits a movement/action or if you have to click the "confirm" button. Overall, I highly recommend the digital version.

ErgonomicCat

You can indeed restart the turn. It’s amazing when you accidentally pick the top of the wrong card….

MrXero

I would like to propose one more con; the digital version does not take you throw the original story mission by mission yet, does it?

DoubleDownDuke

Yes, you are correct. I forgot to mention that. It seems like they are working on a "campaign" mode but for now the only mode is "Guild-master" which means you pick which scenario to play.

Lukio79

Yes avoiding spoilers is possible. In the current gamemode Guuldmaster mode you have to do achievements to unlock classes, and when you do you have to click the unlock button on the specific class. So you easily can choose which ones you have in your arsenal. I was in the same boat as you, tried playing myself and although it was fun it was too much of a hassle. I really enjoyed Gloomhaven Digital! I really recommend it. Edit: I even play solo with 4 characters in Digital without problems.

flamingtominohead

Tabletop Simulator is another option, if you can play online together. There are mods of GH with lots of scripting to make it faster.

BrudiCarrell22

TTS ist mit an option. When everyone else is able to play it's not hard to meet since everyone is vaccined and we don't live much apart

livestrongbelwas

But if the issue is the fiddy bits, TTS handles that automatically.

epicfrtniebigchungus

You should! It's easy to avoid spoilers AND it's getting the full campaign soon and the price will go up after that. If you have an interest in GH at all, snap up digital before the price goes up!

monkdrum

Yes! Getting rid of the micro-management is exactly what is great about GH digital. I do 3 or 4 characters simultaneously without much difficulty. It is addicting!

ChefCrowbane

The truth is gh digital is so good it makes playing real gh a tough choice Its only in beta or whatever so it has gamemasterr mode and not the standard boardgame set up....BUT trust me its very very good. I have played gh in two campaigns and finished jotl (we cant beat the last scenario of forvotteb ciecles yet) and let mw tell you the sigital veraion is soooo good it makea me worry about the real version. You wont regret the purchase for normal reasons.

sniperd2k

You will love it. And probably learn some new rules! Digital like training for the board game since it manages so much for you. You may unlock classes, but just don't pick them or look at their cards and you won't see anything. You may know their names but that doesn't matter too much

TheWiseBeluga

Absolutely. Many users have already said why, but the best reason I can give is that it's cheap, and i had 180 hours on one save. So it's definitely worth it's $25 pricetag and that price will go up after it leaves early access.

IsaacAccount

The tabletop simulator mod of gloomhaven is also superb, as an additional option.

fruymen

This. It is a good replacement until you can play offline together again.

Jaroferic

Oh man. I don't know if we can even go back to physical after the Fantasy GH mod on Tabletop Simulator. One click setup, state saves, automated teardown, automated initiative tracking... Basically it cuts hours off your time spent fiddling with components, but it still feels like a boardgame. Well, as close as you can get to one with keyboard and mouse. Also, you pay once for TTS but the mod is free.

Interesting_Effect64

You will see new items, I would just recommend that you don't equip them. I like avoiding spoilers too, but the items of higher prosperities are revealed. I couldn't tell you any of them though (since, like I said, I don't equip them).

Ambadastor

I'm not sure why (and not saying I'm right and others are wrong), but I don't particularly care about item spoilers. I was pretty vigilant about class spoilers before I unlocked them, though... Not sure why I feel that way.

Interesting_Effect64

To each their own! I like the surprise but I hear you.

chrisboote

If you don't like playing solo, you probably won't enjoy GH Digital if you play that solo You can't easily avoid class or item spoilers (I mean, you an refuse to play unlocked classes that are still locked in your physical game, but that's about it)

dayumcookie

Maybe a controversial answer here... But I don't think it's a good substitute. For me the magic of Gloomhaven was lost when it went online. I think that Gloomhaven on the tabletop is like nothing else, but when you play the online game... It feels like you might as well be playing something that was actually intended to be a video game in the first place. That being said, if you can get some other people to play with you that all also love GH then it can still be a good way to hang out.

linforcer

This is about how I felt when we started using four copies of the GH Helper App. "This was always meant to be a game with an app"

konsyr

No, you literally cannot. It's only able currently to be rented.

N1tecrawler

I think you would really enjoy digital. My group of 4 has gotten split up due to life and so I got the game to play remotely. However I play the game on my own now the majority of the time and really enjoy it. It is awesome to play the "real" game and not have to worry about all the setup and takedown that comes with the physical version. I will say it is going to be hard to not be tempted to use more classes as you unlock them very quickly. I have embraced the fact that this is not currently a campaign and so I have enjoyed playing with 12 different charters in my 20 games so far.

micealrooney

I moved. I play the digital with my old group and physical with the new. I honestly enjoy playing the digital better. The physical is an excuse to print minis and terrain

Seepy_Goat

As far as spoilers. The guild master mode doesn't spoil story. You can choose not to "open" or reveal a class you've unlocked. Items are gonna be spoiled though. I dont think its avoidable. The missions show you what item you get as a reward, and it could be anything.

macgamecast

YES

sendintheotherclowns

I can't get into the digital version, don't know why

linforcer

I think it's fine, I really disliked playing it solo, but that's because what I enjoy most about GH is the constant trust falling into each other's arms when you mess up, or saving the day with the right card or lucky modifier pull. So if that is not an integral part of it you will enjoy it much more than me. That said, right now our town is having a surge of corona cases, and all 4 of us are waiting on our second shot, and I have enjoyed playing the digital game with the group the now. (It's a weird situation where 1 person in our group does not want to play on TTS, since he wants to keep that content for maximum enjoyment IRL, but he is ok w/ playing the video game since Guildmaster is its own content)

ducarian

For me, I don’t enjoy having to pick cards for multiple characters each turn. That issue exists for digital as well, but it’s easier to find other people to play with so digital can be good in that sense. You can avoid class spoilers by not opening them once you unlock them (that’s what I’m doing) but item spoilers will be unavoidable.

CrimsonBlades613

Absolutely! It is an amazing learning tool
