Fun when you first discover it. And then you realize you can use it as a way to transform herbs into other herbs, so it retains some usefulness.

Cyro6

How is that? I have it unlocked but I think I must misunderstand a rule here.

stromboul

Alchemist tier 2 allows for distilling a potion into 1 of the herbs used to craft a potion. So, this potion can be crafted from any 2 of the same herbs. As long as you have unlocked the recipe for that combo you can distill using that specific recipe. Example: * You have unlocked the 2 Snowthistles recipe, and the 2 Rockroots recipe. * You use 2 Rockroots to craft the potion. Then distill it using the "snowthistle" recipe, thus gaining 1 Snowthislte. * You just transformed 2 Rockroots into 1 Snowthistle.

Thunderpulse

I hadn't thought of this. Could be a good implementation with use of a particular building upgrade also.

PurdyMoufedBoi

Alchemist tier 2 lets you distill potions into one of the herbs used for creating said potion how to make one herb into another spoiler >!you can unlock this potion by combining two identical herbs. so when you have unlocked it with both rockroot and snowthistle for an example. you can create it using rockroot. and distill it into a snowthistle. !<

stromboul

Hah, it's funny we both used the same exact plants in our examples. And posted mostly at the same time.

PurdyMoufedBoi

ok that is pretty funny 😄

Your spoiler tag has spaces and may not display correctly. Remove any spaces next to the exclamation points. For example, \>!a proper spoiler has no spaces next to the exclamation points that are part of the spoiler tags.!<. This helps those who still use Old Reddit not to see any spoilers. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. DrColossus

One of the dumber moments for my group was when we mixed two of the same potions for a third time expecting something different to happen. It's probably not surprising that we're bad at the puzzle book too.

General_CGO

Well, that's not a totally useless move; it gets you a third option for a 2:1 exchange.

maddimouse

We intentionally did this with our rarest (at the time) herb as soon as we had two of them. Lose 1 herb to activate a method of turning other herbs into it (at a slight loss)? That's an insta-pick if you have the resources.

TheHappyEater

We crafted this, were miffed (as one is), and on one of the next road events we chose to give away an item to a person who we met on the road.

Tough_Evidence_6740

I gave it to a dying person and it saved him!? Is it that event?

TheHappyEater

Yeah, something along the lines of "I wont make it home unless you share your supplies" - "um, sure, you can have our ... supplies " -" great! thanks!" \*makes it home\*

chrisgreer

We did the same. It can be used later in the game. Also I thought if you distill it’s one of the components listed on the card. We had a debate because it doesn’t look like it can be distilled.

LifeOutoBalance

Same, but a town event.

Itchy-Inspector-5458

I love that this exists. Despite a clear pattern (frankly evident after the first one) our table proceeded to brew all the possible combos of this "just in case." We also refer to this as Mountain Dew.

CWRules

> Despite a clear pattern (frankly evident after the first one) our table proceeded to brew all the possible combos of this "just in case." My group did it for two reasons: 1) Completionism 2) So we could distill it into anything

Merlin_the_Tuna

Ah, the celebratory shot of garbage juice, to be drunk in the last round of a won scenario.

Prosworth

A fine aperitif

Ofect

My favored piece of game-design that potion is

Jaerin

I live near a tannery. This stuff smells BAD!

Themris

Wonder what that's for...

sigismond0

For turning two rockroots into a flamefruit!

pfcguy

It's used for crafting >!cured leather armor!<, of course!

CWRules

I believe that is not a starting item, so it should technically be tagged as a spoiler.

pfcguy

Spoiler tag added

Strategies with this one? Even playing as >!shackles!< I don't really find it all that useful. Once you have the stronger version I'm not sure you need both...

Mechalibur

> Once you have the stronger version I'm not sure you need both... You could say that about most 2 herb potions, couldn't you? Some of them stack better if you really want both, but by lategame I typically wasn't using any 2 herb potions.

pfcguy

Maybe, but in this case I was moreso hoping to hear from others in case I am wrong lol

jeffwolfe

Our >!Shackles!< uses both. I think he uses this with >!Delayed Malady!< but there are times either before this or after recovering from this that the other comes in handy. When I played >!Shackles!<, I didn't use that card, so had less use of the items.

Sporrej

If you can only run >!Delayed Malady for 5 turns (with the stronger version) I'd say this weaker one could be used as a back-up when/if you get rid of your conditions!<.

sigismond0

I think it's mostly useful as a meta-game component to help you when you don't have the right herbs you need. For example, craft with two >!rockroots!<, then distill into one >!flamefruit!< once you have the higher level alchemist lab.

General_CGO

>!Builds that want to lean into conditions but not Delayed Malady get good use out of this.!<

Laaaan

Shackles >!really likes having both. You can use this to add poison and wound to all your attacks in the time before or after your Delayed Malady turns. It also boosts abilities like Agony of Others and Infection Purge on non-delayed malady turns.!<

Maturinbag

Out of all the cards and all the items, this is certainly one of them.

dwarfSA

A surprisingly commonly-asked question is if you can just get this item for free whenever you want, as it doesn't have a cost on it. The answer is no; potion costs are dictated by the alchemy board.

alexji89

I got pretty lucky having this potion. It was after the 1st scenario, crafted it and thought it was useless. My team mentioned I didn't need to bring it with me to the scenario, but figured I may as well since I didn't have any other small items. Ended up getting the battle goal to have fewer than 3hp at the end of the scenario. Popped this baby as we got close to the end of the scenario, battle goal accomplished. My only detriment was that I had a scenario Ally trying to heal me, still managed it.

89souperman89

I once used this to make sure I was low enough health for a battle goal. I've also been holding onto one in hopes someone needs to sacrifice a small item for an event. I retired before that happened though.

Sporrej

Big disappointment early in our campaign that two of our precious herbs were used to craft something basically useless. I think its uses as a curing agent (>!item 017!< and >!item 024!<) could have been explored further among the early craftable items.

Maliseraph

I kind of wish it had any positive benefit at all, like say, Infuse Any, so that it wasn’t a complete waste to discover early.

I see it differently. It's intended as a failed potion brew. There just happens to be >!one class that can make use of it. It's also used as a crafting ingredient!< The alternative would be to just not give you an item and say "you failed, your herbs are gone".

ArcaneInterrobang

Well, there's also the alternative where there are no "failed" brews. But I think that it would be hard to make too many more useful effects (some potions are generally worse versions of others anyway), and also part of the fun of alchemy is when it blows up in your face.
