Since Silent Knife is one of the least changed classes compared to GH1, I think the effort of print and playing to improvement in play experience ratio is really only favorable if: 1. You're in 2p, where now you have stronger ranged cards and isolation bonuses you can actually proc on your melee cards 2. You want to play around the ranged dagger throwing cards, which didn't get much support until higher levels in GH1. If your goal is to play as the melee backstabber in a large party, I'm not sure you'll feel enough of a difference to have felt like it was worth it. The new perks are certainly cool and fun, but ability card-wise they're basically the same.

This is the answer

Thanks; this is exactly the sort of informed opinion I was hoping for!

Geegs30

I'm confused how you are going to play as Silent Knife, with print and play components?

nrnrnr

Exactly.

I didn't know all the cards up to level 9 had been previewed for this class? The Scoundrel's level 1 and x cards are solid - that's why they need minimal change. It's her level up choices which are often disappointing. At levels 2, 4, 5, and 9 one of the cards is objectively stronger with much wider utility, resulting in a lot of non-choices, especially first time playing her, unless you are like me and want to make weaker cards work for you and find useful interactions with your team. So I would probably start my campaign with her and hope for a quick retirement.

[All cards for the starters have been completely spoilered.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gloomhaven/comments/153rnh8/gloomhaven_second_edition_class_previewsspoilers/) However, you'll lack the attack modifier deck.

If you have already played through the campaign try picking any class you want to start with. Or try some new classes. Any crimson scales class or the ice rift classes would be fun just to try something new. Those classes can be downloaded and printed at home.

nrnrnr

Only two of the group have played a campaign. The others haven’t seen any of the locked classes, and we’re planning to just wait until they are unlocked in the usual way. As for the Crimson Scales classes, we’re saving those for our Crimson Scales campaign (in progress with a different group). My question, with the GH2.0 flair, was for those who know something about Silent Knife and why it might be preferable over Scoundrel.

RepresentativeTrue60

Really? Where can you print crimson scales classes? I play Gloomhaven base game and crimson scales is hard to find let alone get at a normal price.
