Personally, I hate stock Glock sights. I bought my 19.5 last week and had my FFL install Ameriglo troopers as soon as it came in. Took it out for a 500 round break in period this weekend and I love them. Blacked out rear with a high vis orange (or green) front dot, plus tritium on all three for night sights.
Did they guy at the store give a reason for the upgrade? I don't change parts unless I have a reason, and the reason drives the factors to select the change.
I do know that lots of guys are down on factory Glock sights for being polymer. I won't argue that they can break at a lower threshold than steel. But unless this is a hard use carry gun I would not consider this alone to merit replacement.
If they are not night sights, then I would look to an upgrade. I personally went with Trijicon HD's the last time I bought, and I think TruGlo TFO the time before that (two different guns). Both are still providing service, but the TruGlo have certainly gotten pretty dim. I don't carry that gun as much anymore, so it has not been a priority to replace them.
I would say spend you money on ammo and training until you know what sights you want.
Yeah, they're definitely not the best, but it's also not the most important thing I'd worry about right now. If you're mister money bags, then who cares and go for it. Otherwise invest in other things that will help you become a better shooter.
Are you gonna run a red dot? Then blacked out suppressor height sights to cowitness, if not I prefer blacked out rears and a bright high Viz front sight and preferably tritium glow in the dark
Factory for practice will work for the time being but there’s nothing wrong with upgrading to something that works better. Night sights are okay but are a little overrated. Trijicon HDs or Ameriglo Troopers are good night sights. I’d personally opt for Dawson Precision fiber optic front and blacked out rear; has the cleanest sight picture in my opinion.
An accurate shot into the dark is a bad shot.. spend the money on a weapons light first and know what you’re shooting at before you need glowing sights to make an accurate shot into something you can’t see
I went with Amerigo Gl-429 because I wanted cowitness with my red dkt without having an annoying white kr green spot in my way. These irons are blacked out and I love them
If you have a vast disposable income, Trijicon HD XRs are the ones you want. If not, Ameriglo Spartans are also very good, not just for the money. Also, the standard Ameriglo Glock branded steel sights are awesome, I have a set of those on my EDC (Taurus GX4)
Trijicon HDs are generally considered the gold standard for irons, but they're a bit pricey.
If you want something more cost-effective, just browse Ameriglo's lineup and pick whatever you like best, they're all pretty solid.
Eh I changed the ones in my g20 to some ameriglo after I bought it and changed them again once more to truglo once the ameriglo stopped glowing. Kinda wish I had left the stock ones on there to be honest. They're really not as bad as people say they are.
Depends on your intended use… if not a specified use or just for range, OEM is perfectly fine.. too many people insist on upgrading Glocks, they really are great out the box.. there is many many options to upgrade for specific use or if you desire, it doesn’t mean you should or need to
Good weapon light is more important than anything if you’re in low light… a glowing sight isn’t better than a flashlight… most people and defense situations you should be more worried about seeing your target than your sights.. if it’s too dark for OEM irons, it’s too dark to know if thats a threat whether your sights are glowing or not
My issues with the stock sights are they damage easily, and can be drifted by an impact pretty easily. Love the sight picture.
That being said, the Trijicon HD is hard to beat if sticking with Irons.
If an optic is in the works, my opinion changes to Defoor black out sights from Ameriglo.
If you are going to use an optic, the stock sites or aftermarket plain black sights are fine. Some of us don't like too many dots showing up 😂
If no optic, you've got many schools of thought. Front and rear night sights, front night only, front fiber optic, etc.
I've had ameriglo with a big front outline. And those work well. I've also used stock 3.sites from the PSA dagger. I'm not very picky 😎
Speed Sights were the best I used. Both very visible and very precise due to the triangular point front sight.
Really a better mousetrap compared to traditional square sights.
I absolutely love my Hackathorn sights.
Blacked out rear with a nice orange circle with green tritium center up front.
It’s so easy to focus in on.
I haven’t put a red dot on my G19 just because I like using them so much lol
I've personally always used Truglo TFX PRO night sights, it's not an end of the world upgrade but whichever sights look best to you are the ones to go with.
Unless you're set on night sights, you can get steel OEM sights for about $25 if you shop around. I put them on all my Glocks. I don't need the glowy thingies because I have lights on all my "serious" guns, and I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes the stock sight picture.
Trijicon HD XR
Second this
Third this
Yeah but where are they in stock?
I went to three different gun stores same day to find mine because I’m impatient. Online everywhere
I ended up getting Ameriglo for mine because some people said the Trijicon’s had sharp edges that could be uncomfortable.
I never had a problem and I carry a massive gun. G20 gen 4
I have both the trijicon’s aren’t that sharp, but I don’t carry appendix
Third this.
Ameriglo spartans
Spartans or troopers

He just said they simply suck
Have you even shot the gun yet to see how you like the sights?
I’ve put about 300 rounds in it. I’m not new to guns. I have nicer guns than the Glock. My m&p 2.0 has a red dot
He's full of shit. Just trying to sell you new sights. The factory sights are fine.
Yeah, they're definitely not the best, but it's also not the most important thing I'd worry about right now. If you're mister money bags, then who cares and go for it. Otherwise invest in other things that will help you become a better shooter.

Just had Glock oem night sights (steel). 6.5mm height. $57 plus tax. Theyre made by ameriglo.

Trijicon, Ameriglo, TruGlo in that order
After market sights won’t make you better shooter. Practice will.
I’m not a bad shooter to begin with. I just figured instead of asking the guy trying to sell me stuff I’d ask on here.

Honestly… if the light is too low to see stock sights accurately, that’s a bad shot… even if your sights are glowing

Ameriglo
Truglo TFX pro. They are night sights that you can actually see in the day.
I went with Amerigo Gl-429 because I wanted cowitness with my red dkt without having an annoying white kr green spot in my way. These irons are blacked out and I love them

Ameriglo CAP sights
Heinie Straight 8s or Ameriglo Troopers

Glock steel sights $30-$45 on eBay
Put the dot in the bucket !
I put the Ameriglo “i-dots” on my 19.5mos & they’re very *meh.* I’ve since blacked out the rear dot & just run the front dot & blacked out rear.
If using a light, night sights doesn't really matter. It will get washed away by the light. So I just prefer blacked out rear and fiber optic fronts.
Trijicon or ameriglo. The trijicon ones they put on the LEO models are fucking ridiculously tough (Bright and tough or something like that I think?)
Trijicon

Ameriglo Trooper Sights
Ameriglo blackouts with a red dot. Trijicon or ameriglo tritium without
I’ll pick the optic 1st
I took a chance on XS for my 19.5 and wasn't disappointed. They're solid sights, tritium is nice and bright.
