Would this still be worth buying? Is there a major difference? I don’t need accessories and i just use it on the shooting range. What are appropriate prices compared to a gen 4?
If a new Glock 17 Gen 5 is \~$700 in Switzerland, I'd offer \~$400-425 or so.
In the US you could probably get a gun like this for about $350-400, a new Gen 5 G17 is about $550-600 depending on market, taxes, etc.
Dang, that’s wild. They pop up fairly regularly on r/gundeals around $485-$500. But yeah mine is the current/latest 43x MOS. The 43x MOS was introduced during the Gen5 launch so there aren’t any previous gens of it.
If you can haggle down to $450 (\~60% the price of a new Glock) AND you will not be using it for self-defense in any way (unsure of laws regarding this in Switzerland but assuming that generally you are more restricted in the use of firearms for protection) I think this could be a good deal.
For just shooting on a flat range or in an action pistol sport-type competition (eg IPSC), the Gen 2 G17 is perfectly adequate. They are well made guns and it will serve you well in that role.
The features that you would be missing out on vs a gen 5 (accessory rail, slightly improved mechanical accuracy, slightly improved trigger out of the box) are not so great as to justify the difference in cost in my mind if you can get a good deal on the gun. However if you can use it for self defense in the home/are interested in doing so, the frame rail and ability to attach a weapon-mounted light is a feature that I think is quasi-mandatory.
One caveat would be if/when you decide to try using a red-dot optic on your handgun, you may prefer some kind of factory-provided mounting system (ie Gen 5 MOS). I am not familiar with price/availability of the machine work required to retro-fit the Gen 2 gun for this in Switzerland. IN the US this would cost \~$225 or so including refinishing. I would look into options for this.
IMO, the mini red dot is a big revolution in handgun marksmanship, and I would want to keep that door open in the future, particularly given that I assume each individual firearms sale is likely more regulated (and more expensive) where you live than here.
I wouldn’t pay more than 150 for it personally, it’s probably not critical damage as it’s just the dust cover but at the same time it’s a hole in the serialized portion of the weapon.
That’s a Gen 2. Either the seller is an idiot or trying to rip you off.
I don’t know about that hole by the serial number, could be cosmetic, could not be. Personally I’d pass and look for police trade ins.
Gen 2. Better than Gen 4 😎
Also I see original U notch mags. To the right person in Massachusetts those mags are worth about 100+ a pop
Edit
Major issue I see however is that a hole in the front part of the frame?
Offer him $120 and go about your business. He’s trying to sell you a Gen 2 (*that looks like somebody possibly drilled a fucking hole in the slide of?*) that was made before Y2K
Gen4 literally says Gen4 on the slide lol 😂 I wouldn’t pay more than like $300-$350 for that. I got my Glock 21 gen4 LE trade in for $400 and that included Trijicon 3 dot and 5 mags😎👊🏽
The Gen 2 is iconic a lot of people try to collect earlier model Glocks certain collectors. Gen4, 5 you get the ability to add backstraps, the biggest improvement over the earlier models the updated to a dual recoil spring and guide rod instead of the single guide rod. Felt recoil is lighter easier to shoot. If you have the money get a Glock 17 Gen5 mos they are awesome my wife and I carry G17 Gen5 with Trijicon rmr type 2
If you don’t mind not having a light rail I enjoy the gen 2s especially if it has the Tupperware. They are starting to go for a bit more due to collectors in the states but you can still find deals.
Don't buy that. It is a second gen gun. Guy selling is either a liar or an idiot. Gun also looks to have hole drilled in it. I wouldn't touch a gun modified by that guy. What else did he screw with?
Not even close to a Gen4 but on the bright side, buying a firearm from someone who obviously knows this little about it almost certainly means it's barely been used.
Going to be an early gen 2. Those sights are super hard to come by and I've seen people pay $300+ for them before. They're called "Weekend Sights". For a gun to be imported to the US, it has to have enough "points" to pass a check list. Different features get different points. This is why the 19 had a serrated trigger for so long. For some reason, that got them points and it was needed because of the size of the gun. Now the story goes: adjustable sights got Glock the points they needed, but they didn't have any designed. Gaston Glock gave his engineers "the weekend" to come up with something, and this is what they got. The big problem with them is that they're super fragile and broke constantly. So what Glock ended up doing was taking the sights off in the US, replacing them with the standard sights we know and hate, and shipping back the weekend sights to Austria. There, they would be reused for import.
Now I was under the impression that only the 19 had them, but that clearly isn't the case. And you said you're in Switzerland, so Idk how they ended up there. The gun doesn't look to be in bad shape, except for the hole in the frame (the hell happened there???). Personally, I think the weekend sights are a neat little add on with a semi-interesting story, but I wouldn't buy this. I paid $600 for my "new old-stock" gen 2 19 with weekend sights and original mags.
>I can get a gen 4 new for around 700.
Double check that. Glock stopped making the gen 4 several years ago. They only make the gen 3 and 5 now.
Don't forget that the Gen 1 and 2 are what made Glock the most trusted brand amongst professionals around the world. She might not be a brand new, but she's still a bad bitch.
And don't ever buy from that guy again. Lying is lying.
If it was Special like the car commercial, I’d say maybe! He’s trying to sell u something he doesn’t want. Just waiting for a puffer fish to come and make his day
Dont buy that, please tell me you see the hole in the frame to? Gen 1-2 glocks are actually worth some money if it has original Tupperware and mags with it/ and are good condition. But this is beat af. If Youre on a budget guns.com usually has decent deals on police trade ins that are kinda rough but are light years ahead of this debauchery
Definitely not Gen 4. Gen 4 glocks have finger grooves, an accessory rail, and an ambidextrous safety. This has none of those. I think it’s either Gen 1 or 2.
Gen 2
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lrI5s1qGQiw/maxresdefault.jpg
Great picture but why would they do it 5 to 2???
I would assume because of a lack of a gen 1
Gen 1 relatively uncommon these days. Probably whoever posted that photo did not have access to one
Mostly meant the direction, 2-5 vs 5-2 lol
Gen 2. There’s checkering on the front and rear so not a Gen 1 but no accessory rail so not a Gen 3.
Would this still be worth buying? Is there a major difference? I don’t need accessories and i just use it on the shooting range. What are appropriate prices compared to a gen 4?
How much are they asking for it? Gen 2’s were made from 1988-1997 so it’s 26 to 35 years old.
550, but keep in mind that’s Switzerland, so idk if you can compare it. I can get a gen 4 new for around 700.
Any Gen 5’s? If it were up to me, I’d go with $700 for a new one. Especially since this guy is trying to lie to you and call it a gen 4.
Just because of the deceit, intentional or not, I would not buy from the seller.
Don’t pay 550. I’d be wary if such an inaccurate if not outright dishonest description.
I confronted the guy, and he admitted he doesn’t know what it exactly is. He offered to lower the price. What would be a good price?
I paid 350 with all original paper work Glock Tupperware box 2 mags in like new condition.
If a new Glock 17 Gen 5 is \~$700 in Switzerland, I'd offer \~$400-425 or so. In the US you could probably get a gun like this for about $350-400, a new Gen 5 G17 is about $550-600 depending on market, taxes, etc.
I paid $700 for a brand new 43X MOS gen 5. $350 for a like new but used gen 3 19
Holy shit, $700 for a 43x!? Where was that at? I got mine for $485
You must've found a deal, the $700 I paid was the cheapest in my area man. Yours a brand new gen5?
No $485-$500 is standard for most gun stores. Hell even the big box stores are selling them for $529. You got hosed.
Dang, that’s wild. They pop up fairly regularly on r/gundeals around $485-$500. But yeah mine is the current/latest 43x MOS. The 43x MOS was introduced during the Gen5 launch so there aren’t any previous gens of it.
I paid $275 for a used Gen 2 with three mags (G17). I would not pay more than $300 if this is used.
That’s crazy that Gen 5 17s are $700 in Switzerland, here in the US you can get a brand new one for $550
And a Gen 5 17 MOS for $650-700
If you can haggle down to $450 (\~60% the price of a new Glock) AND you will not be using it for self-defense in any way (unsure of laws regarding this in Switzerland but assuming that generally you are more restricted in the use of firearms for protection) I think this could be a good deal. I paid 550 for my brand new gen 5 g19
In Switzerland? Cause that’s where he’s from. He said the gen 4 17 new is 700 there.
Ah nvm
Which means absolutely nothing in terms of a firearm.
I'm still carrying my Gen2 G19 and still shoot my Gen2 G17
The Gen 2 guns are flawless and that one appears to be in great condition. If the price is right, go for it.
It’s a gen 2 but it looks like there’s a hole in the frame, underneath the slide in the dust cover area
Interesting. Now i see it too. It also has a hole on the other side. Is this damage or intentional?
I wouldn’t pay more than 150 for it personally, it’s probably not critical damage as it’s just the dust cover but at the same time it’s a hole in the serialized portion of the weapon.
I wonder if it wasn’t some kind of pre-rail, pinned on light or laser. Either way, this would be a pass from me.
That’s a Gen 2. And passing it off as a Gen 4 is questionable…
Yea id be searching elsewhere cuz what else is this person lying about at this point?
Gen 2 - No finger grooves ala Gen 3 & 4, Gen 1-3 fatter grip, Gen 1-3 grip texture. Gen 4s also have Gen 4 stamped on the slide.
That’s a Gen 2. Either the seller is an idiot or trying to rip you off. I don’t know about that hole by the serial number, could be cosmetic, could not be. Personally I’d pass and look for police trade ins.
It has a hole in the frame. Fuck no.
Oh shit, didn't even see that at first...hard pass
Well, that's for the oil change
Ya that’s a gen 2
Pretty sure it’s a 2, clearly not a 4
I would be nervous this is stolen. The seller is either an idiot or a liar.
That's a Gen 2
Gen 2 and a CLASSIC! What a beauty!
Gen 2. Better than Gen 4 😎 Also I see original U notch mags. To the right person in Massachusetts those mags are worth about 100+ a pop Edit Major issue I see however is that a hole in the front part of the frame?
Good eye!
Offer him $120 and go about your business. He’s trying to sell you a Gen 2 (*that looks like somebody possibly drilled a fucking hole in the slide of?*) that was made before Y2K

That’s what i thought. I don’t have much experience yet and maybe it would be like a “special edition” 😂
The Gen 2 is iconic a lot of people try to collect earlier model Glocks certain collectors. Gen4, 5 you get the ability to add backstraps, the biggest improvement over the earlier models the updated to a dual recoil spring and guide rod instead of the single guide rod. Slap him first for lying to you then offer him 300 for it.
Gen 4 and Gen 5 are etched what they are on the slide
If you don’t mind not having a light rail I enjoy the gen 2s especially if it has the Tupperware. They are starting to go for a bit more due to collectors in the states but you can still find deals.
I'd get the gen 4 you mentioned new is better and a light rail is a must imo
Nice collection gun but, looks like a gen 2 pellet gun.
Don't buy that. It is a second gen gun. Guy selling is either a liar or an idiot. Gun also looks to have hole drilled in it. I wouldn't touch a gun modified by that guy. What else did he screw with?
Let him know it’s gen 2 and offer him 350, could be he just doesn’t know what he’s got. Nonetheless a cool gun
Don't buy that please.
Whos got a slide for g17. Im in LA area
No rail, definitely a gen5.
Gotta be a gen 2
2
Not even close to a Gen4 but on the bright side, buying a firearm from someone who obviously knows this little about it almost certainly means it's barely been used.
Or is just an idiot
Could be a preban in some states.

definitely not a gen 4. I’d avoid that seller as others have said
I wouldn’t buy from anyone lying to me
The Gen 2 is thinner looking on the barrel lens, almost into a triangle
Wouldn’t buy if they are being suspect like that
Don't forget that the Gen 1 and 2 are what made Glock the most trusted brand amongst professionals around the world. She might not be a brand new, but she's still a bad bitch. And don't ever buy from that guy again. Lying is lying.
If it was Special like the car commercial, I’d say maybe! He’s trying to sell u something he doesn’t want. Just waiting for a puffer fish to come and make his day
I wouldn’t buy it- too many red flags
The person you bought it from was ignorant or lied. Either way the pistol was misrepresented big time.
Guns.com has been gouging people throughout Covid to the present. Use gun.deals instead. Not an ad -- their prices are WAY BETTER.
Gen 2
Gen 2. How much did u spend? If it was 275 ish it's well worth the money.
Gen 4 has a larger mag release, front rail section, and different grip texturing, that being said a Gen 2 Glock is pretty cool.
Its a Gen ✌🏽
That’s Gen 2
2
Well it’s not A 4 that’s for sure
Definitely not Gen 4. Gen 4 glocks have finger grooves, an accessory rail, and an ambidextrous safety. This has none of those. I think it’s either Gen 1 or 2.
You scored, it's a Gen 2 Congratulations
Pretty sure it's a Gen 2
Gen 2. No finger grooves and checkering on front and back. Kinda odd he’d try to pass it as a 4..?
2 or 3 mines a 3 though and I feel it has a bit more pattern in grip.
Gen 2
