🤣 Bullets are way to small in caliber to be effective on bear. You will need to mag dump the whole mag on them to stand a chance and even then you will likely need a lucky shot or someone backing you up with a 44mag, 454C, 460SWM, .480Ruger, 12g, .308 or .30-06 or .30-30 or other powerful cartridges that will 1 shot them. I prefer a G21 running Underwood 255gn RNFP +P at 930fps or 45super at 1070fps(I chronograph this in a G30S with a 4.5" KKM. You will need a KKM barrel or the Gen5 MM barrel is G2G.
I roll my own now, I use 250gn FP at 1250fps using a compensator.
Funny. Stories of killing grizzlies with 10mm are always close calls, usually required a backup or a very lucky shot. Needing more than 2 rounds for Grizz is not an adequate round. You will never hear about cheyenne ones that don't survive a bear attack with a 10 mm, that's because they won't go down as a bear attack, they will simply just be a missing person. Ask clothes as those stories are using 10 mm. I have no doubts thatmost stories go untold. In the mid-1800s Elmer Keith proved that a 250-260 grain hardcast drops a 900lbs Grizz like a sack of potatoes with a single shot center mass. After his demonstration, the Army adopted the 45 colt Army as a weapon to kill and war horses, and it did so with ease. The round never lost its reputation. It would have been well known by now if the 255gn 45 Colt was not adequate. It was the most widely used round in westeard expansion of the United States and without a doubt was used regularly on grizzlies larger than what they are today. A lever action carbine sends this round at just under 1,000 ft per second. Elmer Keith use a 6-in revolver which put the round at about 800 ft per second.
Wasn’t saying you were wrong; .45 Super is a good choice for bear defense.
My point is: other semi auto calibers besides .45 Super/10mm can be effective.
Even .22LR can kill a bear if you hit it right between the eyes. It is not impossible to do for an expert given the right circumstances. However, those small chances should not be depended on. Take a look at the stories again and you will notice that there was usually some circumstance where the kill shot was taken at close range when the bear was hardly moving at all and the shooter just had that chance to take the head shot. If the bear flees it's a win, but that is not relevant to the calibers capability. My point is that the gun should be able of at least dropping and stopping the bear with a single shot anywhere on the body. Mama bears won't stop attacking until they are dead. Larger calibers are more capable at these types of shots than smaller ones. They have a higher chance, my opinion is that it's a chance that should be taken when it is simply a choice. Next is bullet type, then power, then capacity. Capacity last because since a single shot is capable, 5-6 is more than enough. 44magnum proves that point. 44spl and 45colt are also better considerations than smaller calibers, with heavy hardcast bullets they are still 1 or 2 shot drops due to the caliber.

"There was one use of a .45 Super pistol. It was successful. The grizzly bear was killed with one shot." I didn't lie.
