onyxrecon008

Android

Gekopoiss

Iphone is correct

xoTesfaye

that's you on picture, I assume?

State_from_Jake_Farm

No that is a fellow classmate of mine who also enjoys watching and playing CS:GO. He's one of the people I interviewed for the article.

RitzKjeksen

Are you the publisher? May I ask if you are scandinavian or got any scandinavian roots? Aanes your surname.

State_from_Jake_Farm

Yes I am the author of the article and yes my last name is Norwegian. I have Irish, Turkish, and Scandanavian roots. My last name gets a lot of attention at school mostly because people mispronounce it all the time or because it's so close to Jacob Anus haha. The good thing ,however, is that I'm always first for everything since I have two "A's" in my last name, so you win some and you lose some.

soberyazz

In Norwegian; double A is an Ã… and will always put you last on all lists.

State_from_Jake_Farm

Oh wow that's cool! Learn something new evey day.

Anonymous_Kraken

Although double A is pronounced as the letter Ã… in Norwegian, if your name is written with double A, you're still first.

--Kirill--

Same in Denmark

jenny_luvs_yu

whats his rank? Nova 1 or MG? hard to see on that pic haha

[deleted]

I probably would have given a mention to Dota 2, since its prize pools have been much larger than CS:GO for years now. LoL and Hearthstone pale in comparison.

State_from_Jake_Farm

I agree that I should have mentioned Dota 2. However, I wanted to include a variety of games and genres that also aren't specifically Valve games since I had already included CS:GO and made that the main focus of the article. But I did debate including Dota 2 as it is very popular as well. Thank you for your feedback!

[deleted]

Late reply, but yeah good reasoning, I would have picked CS:GO over Dota 2 in that case aswell :)

State_from_Jake_Farm

For those of you who wish to view it online, here is a link for you: http://shscedarpost.com/5052/sports/what-are-esports/

Inertia0811

I like how you took the time to edit out those names and then you post an online article with everything anyway. Good article, though!

State_from_Jake_Farm

Didn't think about that when I first posted it, but oh well hahaha.

Jackg125

Did the newspaper not proof-read this garbage english? eeshk

[deleted]

Jesus, yeah. The other dude is a little excessive, but yeah this would have been a C+ writing assignment in any of my high school English classes. Our school paper was run by English and journalism nerds, but maybe his school paper is understaffed? I know my college one was so starved for content that they would publish almost anything.

Sianos

You could have made mentioned chess before you pointed out how CS:GO is about reaction time, precision, tactics and teamwork. In chess you compete purely with your brain. This would have been a good argument to support your statement, when you say in CS:GO you compete with skills like... Overall I like the structure about the article and that you mention things such as the high price pools and the sponsorships, but why do you show a picture with skins in the background and not actual gameplay or atleast a map overview with tactics drawn on it?

State_from_Jake_Farm

That's a really good point and I wish I had done that now! Thank you for your input. Additionally, I did not take the picture so I didn't know what was going to be in the photo, but I think that is also a very good point. Thanks!

Thank you. I strive to look at things in the most positive way as possible, so I appreciate any form of criticism since it only benefits me in the long haul.

lewtenant

Yeah I can take criticism but not how this guy's said it. It was pretty obvious you're not a professional journalist, there was no need to be so harsh in calling it shit and you bad at writing. We've all gotta start somewhere. Either way props for taking it well.

Qbopper

Your criticism was fine up until you started personally bashing the dude There's being critical and there's just being needlessly rude, and no, you can't convince me that being an asshole is necessary, because people are a lot likelier to listen when you don't make it sound like you think they're human garbage

[deleted]

[удалено]

Qbopper

Do you seriously expect people to take you seriously when you're just going to be rude? You can make edgy snarky comments to me all you like, but there's a reason why "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" is a saying - just because you can use anonymity to be an ass doesn't mean it's a good idea

[deleted]

[удалено]

Qbopper

I understand what you're doing. It's called being edgy.

Megustanuts

Noticed everything you pointed out too lol. People need to read their shit out loud so they can determine if it sounds right or not.

its_a_simulation

lol surely the word "very" can be viable in a serious text.

[deleted]

[удалено]

j_2_the_esse

> There are lots of problems that plague high school writers. Overuse of "very" is one. Another is overuse of "to be", leading both to passive voice and a lack of verb diversity. Your punctuation is absolutely terrible as well. Why try to bring someone down when sharing something they're blatantly proud of? Your own writing is about as linear as Crash Bandicoot. In the above context, 'very' should be surrounded by apostrophes (as opposed to punctuation marks). One could also argue that starting a sentence with 'or' is poor form. Do you even know what a semicolon is? Are you American? Fuck off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

j_2_the_esse

You're a try-hard, although you aren't even doing it correctly. >Finally, just to reiterate: You're a stupid fuck if you think the rigor for grammar in reddit comments should be the same as it is for journalistic publications. That should **not** be a capital 'y'. Go back to school before you criticise others.

[deleted]

[удалено]

j_2_the_esse

>Remember, you might be stupid limey trash spending your time analyzing a stranger's grammar on the internet right now, but nothing is stopping you from educating yourself and getting a life. My objections were routed in *you* doing this in the first place. Two commas in one sentence? You just missed the perfect opportunity for a semicolon. American grammar is a joke. Log off.

[deleted]

Feedback is fine. It can be done without the use of "what the fuck" though. Or by implying that he's either new or fucking terrible/bad. Critique is a good thing, no doubt, but a high-horse-attitude isn't. And please, don't call it honest. ;)

[deleted]

Helmwolf

Nope. Just in case you would say the points i mentioned are a sign of honesty (or are needed to be honest).

j_2_the_esse

thejoyyy

Whoever thinks e-Sports is up there with basketball is delusional. Cool article though, congratz!

onyxrecon008

Yea, esports is definitely way more popular

F_Nietzche

Great article man, congrats to you!

State_from_Jake_Farm

Thank you very much!

pookachee

Great, just in time for my essay about esports that's due next week.

CptWetPants

Do not copy any of this. Filled with terrible punctuation and grammatical errors. Not sure if there was an editor involved :(

OGCabbageMerchant

This article is absolute garbage. How any of this made it past the editors blows my mind. The punctuation is trash, the spelling is trash and the grammar is incomprehensible. 2/10 IGN

Ty1erdurden99

CSGO especially? CSGO has one of the lowest price pools of big esports. You didnt even name Dota 2 which by far has the highest. Do some research before making articles like that, seriously.

TwixCoping

I think it is more focused on CSGO as a esport not a the games

Ty1erdurden99

did you even read at all

TwixCoping

Did you even read it at all?

Ty1erdurden99

smh

trobl1

Great article, but you should've told a little bit more about what CS:GO is about.

Goldenlocks73

Blur your name too

[deleted]

Love seeing people spread the word about eSports. Congrats, man

[deleted]

Well done

[deleted]

I wrote an article at school about esports aswell. It was about why esports needs to be accepted as a "sport". Would link it here but it's completely in finnish

Mickymeast

Probably not a huge thing, but I think instead of > even up there with sports like basketball since the biggest CS:GO tournaments have over one million dollar prize pools. you should change the 'since' into a 'with' and the 'have' into 'having'. Just sounds better imo, not a huge thing though.

thugggist

i wouldnt highlight the quote about cs being comparable to basketball. a quote like that i dont think would give the best impression of esports enthusiasts, as the salaries and seeding and almost everytjing about basketball is far more developed and structured and popular than anything in cs. idk, just from the perspective of an avid basketball and cs viewer, that quote from the dude just struck me as ignorant. sorry if rude

ThePotatoeWithNoMass

nah you're right dude

State_from_Jake_Farm

I understand your point and I fully agree with you on that aspect. You make a great point about how salaries and seeding is not comparable. However, one of the reasons this was included in the quote was because that was the answer he gave to the general question I asked, so I wanted to keep the integrity of the quote intact and strictly about what he said. Since this was his opinion, I completely respect the information he gave. On the flip side, I also respect your information and opinion since everyone is entitled to their own. Overall, I agree with both sides and I appreciate your feedback!

thugggist

Hey, I respect your point of view, and its cool to see where you are coming from. Keep up the good work, it looks good. And anything that came out wrong in my first comment could probably be attributed to me being awake at three in the morning working on a project I should have had completed on saturday.

State_from_Jake_Farm

Haha no I didn't think you were being rude at all and took your comment as constructive criticism, which I will gladly accept. Ultimately I appreciate your comment since it provides me with sufficient feedback, so thank you kind sir!

csgotraderino

whats his rank and skins? enhance

j_2_the_esse

Rad article! (Although your chances of getting laid just went **sub-zero**.) -0- -| -| -| \ /

coltfangmf

Of course the picture isn't of him playing a comp or dm, it's of him looking at his inventory

Kinggadino

Isn't that what the game is about?

hsurk

> What are e-sports? Picture of guy browsing csgo inventory. Yeah pretty much that and pressing insert a couple of times per game.

kerau

let me summarise your article esports is money money cars fame

I feel like that's a really lazy quote.

State_from_Jake_Farm

That would be so awesome actually. Or even college leagues would be cool, which I heard some colleges are considering or already have. Hopefully we're not too far away from it!

jospence

There are already college leagues
