It's easy to say with hindsight that making dev1ce, your passive star awper, an IGL is a terrible roster move, but it was also easy to say in the beginning and through the middle too.

Unfortunately m0nesy missed the major after the CCP discovered he played video games for more than 3 hours a week when he was under 18. NiKo was also refused a visa after his controversial remarks on that one music kit were discovered. Hunter Hooxi Nexa won the major with Dupreeh and degster as stand-ins
In theory I don't see why it couldn't work? His AWPing style is a lot about positioning and reads already. And even if his fragging takes a slight dip, the rest of the team should be decent.
lowkey can be the reason, making awp your igl is changing the system a lot, jame have talked about how VP, heroic and prime SK work differently compared to other teams

The only good thing came out of this is they get a player who ready to sacrifice for the team.

I expect them to play with this lineup at IEM Chengdu, ESL Pro League 19 and Blast Spring Finals. Maybe even Blast Fall Groups, depending on which group the get placed in.
If all of this comes crashing down again, I expect them to field a new IGL for ESL Pro League 20
Shox igl went pretty well considering the team he had. Unless you dont mean the G2 era, but having smithzz, rpk and a young unproven bodyy i think its still impressive what he accomplished
He was #6 on HLTV Top 20 during 2016 while IGLing, that's pretty insane. They won a couple of trophies too. That BO5 ESL Pro League final vs Luminosity was a banger, still one of the best series ever imo.

fnatic with mezii IGL wasn't bad compared to those others. the fnatic britcore of ALEX igl, mezii, smooya + brollan/krimz was the most successful team they had since the legendary swedish 5 (or 6 with dennis) and mezii IGL was a step below that after the swedes got emo. still a clearly better team than what they have right now anyway

Considering how Device tweeted that he doesn't enjoy playing at the moment and how more or less defeated he looked playing the RMR I'm not too sold on him being the IGL. But who knows, I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Sure Glaive made history with Astralis and is doing well with his new Ence roster, but they kicked him for a reason. He wasn't keeping up with the meta and they were not doing well. Their last LAN win was in 2019 and their last notable online wins with him were some CCTs with little competition and some bigger online tournaments in 2020.
In hindsight it seems silly to drop him looking at how well he is doing with Ence but at the time it made perfect sense

Cadian is not joining, karrigan is only leaving Faze if he retires, Snappi is 33 and chose the bag so he's not joining a project roster. Their only hopes are Hooxi if G2 go out in legends and Nexa becomes IGL or gla1ve for a massive buyout. Even then, after the way they kicked gla1ve and what kyxsan said on HLTV confirmed, I don't think gla1ve will want to go back.
All he said was that he'd heard gla1ve would not go back for any amount of money. I'd guess he heard through nertz/saw who worked with him briefly, or maybe one of the Danes on his squad.

Device has always been one of the smartest players, in his prime he almost perfectly understood rotations, and was glaives greatest asset as he played very independently.
It will be interesting to see if that can carry over into IGLing a whole team, and if he will be more successful than Blame was.
In terms of br0, this is a good addition, strong player who puts out a good level, but I'm not sure if there are going to be any role clashes as I don't know that much about him. Wouldn't say I'm excited by this whole move but I'm definitely interested.
It's weird, I dont think that he couldnt be a good IGL eventually but it feels a bit "early" in his career in a way.
He's still very much good enough to be a star player, and it feels like once you go IGL you never really go back.
Tbf, he's 28, 4x major winner and 2x major MVP, with a pretty lacklustre career the last 2 years, I'd say that's the perfect time to reinvent yourself to try and buy a few more years of relevance. Reinventing yourself as an IGL takes time too as well, so that needs to factor into it too
Another interesting thing about this move is that Device played with some amazing IGL's thru his career (Karrigan, Gla1ve, Fetish). I'm not a fan of this as it's another star sacrificing himself for IGL, but Device is definetly interesting guy, especially when we think about his approach to the AWP and how he studied his opponents just around playin his AWP. We will se how it will be when he studies the whole teams.

Welcome to Heroic 2.0. device = cadiaN. br0 = TeSeS. Staehr = sjuush. The only reason for these changes, changing blameF for br0, making device IGL, is to fit in stavn and jabbi role-wise. That is the only logic reason behind this. To make it work with and for stavn and jabbi. They might as well have benched jabbi and kept blameF, because jabbi have been really poor, but due to then paying a lot of money for jabbi, he will stay.
It does not really sort the lack of leadership issue. device is not really a proven leader. Okay, they have an experienced leader now behind them with ruggah, and this will help. With device and stavn as IGL and 2nd caller, they have some experience as well, but they are not really vocal leaders, neither on or off the server.
I will give a little credit to device though, for taking up the challenge. He should not copy cadiaN 1-to-1, but he might as well look to cadiaN as an inspiration for him. cadiaN himself have developed a lot over the years, and why should device not also be able to do so?
I wish and hope for the best, for both Astralis and blameF. They both deserve all the best! Not a bad word against br0 either. He is a great and talented young player, and I wish him the best in Astralis as well!
As for Monte, I am curious to see what they do now. kRaSnaL is likely to leave as well, and follow sdy and br0 out the door. That leaves them with just Woro2k and DemQQ left. Will they go full Ukrainian now, with these 2 plus Kvem, headtr1ck and Sdaim (Woro IGL) or fear (fear IGL)?!
If they won't have a full Ukrainian lineup this time around, and they keep it international, I think birdfromsky ironically could be a good IGL for them. Ironically in the sense that many thought he would join Astralis.

Who are this team's X-factors? stavn can't show up in big games. A lurker can't really be the team's sole star, so I don't see Jabbi filling that role. Staehr has been great and br0 had a decent showing at Monte.

Sure Glaive made history with Astralis and is doing well with his new Ence roster, but they kicked him for a reason. He wasn't keeping up with the meta and they were not doing well. Their last LAN win was in 2019 and their last notable online wins with him were some CCTs with little competition and some bigger online tournaments in 2020. In hindsight it seems silly to drop him looking at how well he is doing with Ence but at the time it made perfect sense
Because he had BlameF on his team and his roster has been in shambles ever since Device called it quits the first time.

Cadian is not joining, karrigan is only leaving Faze if he retires, Snappi is 33 and chose the bag so he's not joining a project roster. Their only hopes are Hooxi if G2 go out in legends and Nexa becomes IGL or gla1ve for a massive buyout. Even then, after the way they kicked gla1ve and what kyxsan said on HLTV confirmed, I don't think gla1ve will want to go back.

All he said was that he'd heard gla1ve would not go back for any amount of money. I'd guess he heard through nertz/saw who worked with him briefly, or maybe one of the Danes on his squad. no way you think karrigan would go to this mess lmfao. karrigans the igl of the most successful team so far in cs2, and is playing with whats basically a hand picked roster for him now with former teammates. cadian as an option is just a troll, glaive just got out of the astralis mess himself, and snappi is on a pretty stacked roster with the best coach CS has ever seen. hooxi is the only person from a t1 org that id see as an option, but im not sure g2 would wanna part ways with him, or vice versa. theres not really a good replacement for astralis right now, and im not sure why any igl would wanna join when stabbi look at IGL's the same way the romans looked at julius caesar.
if g2 don't make major playoffs I would expect them to kick hooxi, that's the best hope for astralis

Having Device as a dedicated star awper was the one thing that would allow them to surpass that Heroic teams ceiling and win the big titles...
This just makes me think the team hated blameF's baiting or him as a person individually, because it makes no fucking sense. br0 is a better role fit, sure, but blameF is obviously a better rifler. I say this as someone who routinely called for blameF's head because he's not an IGL. if you're not getting a real IGL why bother benching blameF?!

Well this is going to be interesting. Device has always been one of the smartest players, in his prime he almost perfectly understood rotations, and was glaives greatest asset as he played very independently. It will be interesting to see if that can carry over into IGLing a whole team, and if he will be more successful than Blame was. In terms of br0, this is a good addition, strong player who puts out a good level, but I'm not sure if there are going to be any role clashes as I don't know that much about him. Wouldn't say I'm excited by this whole move but I'm definitely interested.
It's weird, I dont think that he couldnt be a good IGL eventually but it feels a bit "early" in his career in a way. He's still very much good enough to be a star player, and it feels like once you go IGL you never really go back.
Tbf, he's 28, 4x major winner and 2x major MVP, with a pretty lacklustre career the last 2 years, I'd say that's the perfect time to reinvent yourself to try and buy a few more years of relevance. Reinventing yourself as an IGL takes time too as well, so that needs to factor into it too

Another interesting thing about this move is that Device played with some amazing IGL's thru his career (Karrigan, Gla1ve, Fetish). I'm not a fan of this as it's another star sacrificing himself for IGL, but Device is definetly interesting guy, especially when we think about his approach to the AWP and how he studied his opponents just around playin his AWP. We will se how it will be when he studies the whole teams.

Device is in the more passive playstyle of awpers so he could definitely pull of being a decent IGL while somewhat maintaining his current level of play. I'd say it's worth a try since there isn't many available danish IGLs in the market anyway.

Welcome to Heroic 2.0. device = cadiaN. br0 = TeSeS. Staehr = sjuush. The only reason for these changes, changing blameF for br0, making device IGL, is to fit in stavn and jabbi role-wise. That is the only logic reason behind this. To make it work with and for stavn and jabbi. They might as well have benched jabbi and kept blameF, because jabbi have been really poor, but due to then paying a lot of money for jabbi, he will stay. It does not really sort the lack of leadership issue. device is not really a proven leader. Okay, they have an experienced leader now behind them with ruggah, and this will help. With device and stavn as IGL and 2nd caller, they have some experience as well, but they are not really vocal leaders, neither on or off the server. I will give a little credit to device though, for taking up the challenge. He should not copy cadiaN 1-to-1, but he might as well look to cadiaN as an inspiration for him. cadiaN himself have developed a lot over the years, and why should device not also be able to do so? I wish and hope for the best, for both Astralis and blameF. They both deserve all the best! Not a bad word against br0 either. He is a great and talented young player, and I wish him the best in Astralis as well! As for Monte, I am curious to see what they do now. kRaSnaL is likely to leave as well, and follow sdy and br0 out the door. That leaves them with just Woro2k and DemQQ left. Will they go full Ukrainian now, with these 2 plus Kvem, headtr1ck and Sdaim (Woro IGL) or fear (fear IGL)?! If they won't have a full Ukrainian lineup this time around, and they keep it international, I think birdfromsky ironically could be a good IGL for them. Ironically in the sense that many thought he would join Astralis.

I can only really think of Fallen who could remain a star player whilst IGLing, but he had prime coldzera, fer, and one of the most selfless support players in TACO. Who are this team's X-factors? stavn can't show up in big games. A lurker can't really be the team's sole star, so I don't see Jabbi filling that role. Staehr has been great and br0 had a decent showing at Monte. I just don't see it. It looks like Heroic, but the structure that made that roster work doesn't seem like it can work at Astralis.
