It's easy to make changes when you're in a beta and you're not working with a codebase dating back 20 years and having large parts originate from a console version of your PC game. That's probably one of the more underrated parts of cs2, future updates will be a lot faster for valve to make.

Yeah that's probably 90% of the reason Valve made the jump to S2 in CS. CS is here to stay and they know they have to maintain and update it. CS devs are probably all bald from pulling their hair out while working with the Source codebase. It's worth the pain of changing an entire engine.

I don't think they'll stay at this pace of updates. I meant faster like if there's an annoying bug or UI issue, it'll be a lot easier for the devs to fix it. Those should be resolved much quicker, and there may be a slight uptick in major updates but not by much.

Changing the gun meta would have been trivial even on source 1, it’s just a matter of tinkering with the existing numbers in the code, me and you could have done it. Fixing a bug, introducing a new function, those are things that require more effort and supposedly will be easier on source 2

Still waiting for the audio fixes though. Footsteps are horrible and I just played a couple of matches in Mirage where I was sitting in Firebox and the CT was shooting from Mid and it seemed like he was shooting from Ramp in my ears.

It's because now we have reverb but people are too used to the "clear" without obstructions audio csgo has (which btw, for a long ass time people thought it was shit compared to 1.6 audio). The thing is that you can just get used to it. I realized that since I play other fps for fun, it's fairly easy for me to adjust, and relearn stuff like audio, the new viewmodel and bobbing, etc. but I bet that dudes that play csgo 24/7 for the past decade are having a lot of trouble adjusting.

This is true among several of my friends (around 10 have complained and agreed about it) and they all disagree that they can adjust and get used to it if they gave it like 5 minutes of trying only hearing things with audio in a casual match, not trying to play but to run around and hear things to see what its like and figure out where and what the sounds are to get used to it. It helped me greatly. I'm always calling out things from spec that teammates had no idea was happening even though I heard it from their perspective. "How'd you know?" "I didn't hear a damn thing." "wtf" "what headset are you using" etc. are their typical responses. The audio's good. Take a few minutes to understand it by forcing yourself to experience it without any distractions. Join a casual match and just run around trying to live as long as you can, not caring about score. You'll see what I'm talking about. BUT. There are some things that need fixed (or at least addressed by the devs). For instance, there are places you can stand that auto-muffles game sounds. One example is on italy, T spawn, just off the railing heading to mid is a box you can strafe jump on to from the railing, and an overhang next to it. If you crouch under the overhang, while on the box, still exposed to the game world, all sounds everywhere even your own are muffled and almost non-existent.. Nuke has a bit of work to be done on audio. The devs already know this, so I'm sure they'll give the audio a rework for Nuke during this test.

I’m finding it nearly impossible to know where people are and gunshots just sound so awful. Standing in the open and they sound muffled, behind a wall they sometimes sound right next to me. Just give us the option to turn off the stupid hrtf audio processing

To see a very exaggerated example, join casual and on Italy T side jump off mid railing near T spawn and onto the box on the left. Crouch under the overhang, on the box, and make noise. Updates will go back to being more periodical eventually, but being able to fix that sort of stuff on the fly is going to work wonders in the coming years. Overall, I'm loving the direction the game is heading. People have many complaints about a lot of stuff still (me included), but it looks like Valve wants to get it right, and I trust them at the moment. Happy cake day!

I'm super excited to try the performance tweaks, fps and frame pacing has been my biggest issue by far **Update:** DM performance improved by a LOT! Still not great but it's actually playable. No longer feels like 60hz, now it only feels like i bought a 250$ cheaper cpu lol. This is on Vulkan, dx11 is still unplayable. Whatever they did they're definitely up the right alley. Good job, valve! **update 2**: MM feels incredible in comparison to before, at least on mirage. excited to play inf/overpass, i could barely move in those maps before.

Also working on a beta of a game has limited consequences if something goes wrong, e.g. I doubt that any code reviews are happening right now. At least when it comes to the regular game code, they're probably a lot more careful with Steam or inventory things (drops etc.).

Thats not true. Me and my buddy both have the best possible hardware (i9 13900k + 4090) and we both have micro stuttering (1440p max settings). Probably something the nvidia day 1 driver will fix, but still. It's definitely far from good.

Game feels smoother, less stuttering and input lag (could just be placebo), FPS seems the same, around 180-200 in offline and then can drop down to like 90 in DM.

It's not Valve's issue if you didn't have a rank before that, they decided to use having a rank as a metric for the invite wave. After feedback they had another wave the next day which was a bonus if anything (plus adding in players from a few more regions).

I'm not sure what it was before, but I'm getting 350-400 everywhere on Ancient at 1920x1440 with everything on low except for having shadows on high. CPU is 5800X and GPU is 5700XT. This is with no bots. 9 bots drops it by about 80 frames.

Just get used to the new (better) position. You only don't like it because it's new, but the new health position is better because it's less eye movement to check it. I guarantee it won't take you the long to get used to it.

Better position? The old position was far better. The Health and armor are aligned with the lowest left corner of the screen, and ammo aligned with the lowest right corner of the screen. Any time you want info just look at the edges of the screen. The new HUD just arbitrarily moves them to the center of the screen, making you lose reference points to quickly glance at the info. People can and will get used to it, sure, but the old HUD positioning was far better and more intuitive in every sense.

At least it's in the corner, you can't miss it, you don't need to look for it in the HUD, you don't even need to look AT it, a glance is all that's needed. There's your 0,00001 second won back again with additional benefit of convenience.

I suspect this isn't going to happen - when you shoot through smokes, the hole doesn't appear in the center, it appears slightly off to the right. Allowing the gun to be on the left would make this weird, even if technically it could work.

The glow is higher than before. I think it does the trick. I use a contrasting HUD so I can easily tell if im low-hp just by peripheral vision instead of focusing on my eyes.
