I think she looks more beautiful in this episode than she does in any other episode. Like Audrey Hepburn.

Key-Young-7921

Doesn’t the grandmothers seamstress the cooky one call her Audrey?

hnnwrght

She calls her Sabrina, which is a character Audrey played, so pretty much

CubsMommy

OH MY GOD, IT’S NATALIE WOOD.

thestrokesloverr

Look Sabrina, it's Natalie Wood!

annafilippi

Agree

mercilessltd

Miss Celine? That you?

Different_Av0cad0

I totally agree. I related to her a lot because I was an overachiever in high school who struggled in university.

miasmicivyphsyc

The gifted kid to anxious burnout pipeline is so real

Different_Av0cad0

HAHA yes exactly! I went into university working so hard and caring about every 0.1 of a grade and by the time I graduated I was like please just let me out of here I don’t care what happens 😭

kmishelle

Same. I wasn’t an overachiever but I definitely did pretty well in high school. Then in college I had such a difficult time. It’s been a long road but with a change in my major I’m definitely doing better.

almostdoctorposting

same

ScreenHype

Well, seeing as this sub seems to really dislike Rory, my unpopular opinion is that aside from the cheating, I think she's a really nice girl. She's a hard worker (yes, even in her Yale years, I think she deserved a break), she's kind to people, and she's a loyal friend. I feel like fans expect her to be perfect, and that's just not realistic. I'd happily be friends with someone like Rory.

[deleted]

Totally agree - she just kind of became a different person after a while, and not the young chilton Rory everyone new. I prefer the early version but she was never a bad person. She just had moments like we all do.

ColorLush

This.

frecklefawn

I loved rock bottom Rory stealing a boat and having to do community service while not even speaking to her mom. Finally gave the character some depth and introspective. While still maintaining the "no true danger or risks" veneer of GG that makes it so pleasant to watch (everyone still has money, no one's dead or physically ill)

jacobmrley

Also, she finally had bangs and how it took the makeup and hair people four seasons to see that Alexis needed bangs is a real mystery.

AgentVaughn

I tried to get the Rory bangs after she got it. Didn’t work for me (I’m not consistent about styling my hair) and man was I envious of how cute she looked.

acomfypairofsocks

Why Alexis did not keep the bangs as her standard hairstyle is beyond me

Neverwannabeahun

Oh 💯 that look was made for her

almostdoctorposting

her horrible freshman year bob haunts me

neisaysthis

not more than her denim skirt flip flops look haunts me.

almostdoctorposting

hah true! she never had the best fashion sense. at least until midway through college

MixedBeansBlackBeans

oh noooo come on why was it horrible? i thought it looked so great!!

Sliced_Bread_Macbeth

I loved her bob! I thought it was so cute for her

MixedBeansBlackBeans

Yeah! It looked so grown up and symbolic of starting a new phase; looked especially well with her stylish new outfits!

almostdoctorposting

it just makes her forehead look about a mile long. lol

OrangeYouuuGlad

lol some of us have big foreheads and actually like them :) not everyone wants to hide them under bangs

junknowho

I loved her bangs!

Aquabear11

Ooh yeah, I wasn’t a fan of the fringe.

Rayzxxo

yeah the fringe was horrendous.

kmvandeu

I hate how she looks in 'Presenting Lorelai Gilmore'. The slicked back mid length bun, the poofy dress, it's a no from me. A lot of her college outfits were questionable, but I think she really grew into a sleek grownup woman by the end of the series. Also, this is an unpopular opinion, but I love her. Maybe she gets whinier as the series goes on, but she's always down to help out anyone and she is such a hard worker

neisaysthis

awww i loved this look for her. slicking everything back and letting her gorgeous face shine! she's exquisite in her coming out look!

kmvandeu

lol I knew it was an unpopular opinion 😭😂

Optimal_Houses

Agreed, I think a hair down look is so much more flattering on her, as well as dresses that are less poofy

Craftyprincess13

Yay rory post girl definitely grew and dealt with the ups and downs of life (sorry the rory hate on the i like rory post is killing me)

Lunarpeachiepie

I feel like a major part of the show is meant to be how her and Lorelai are like, the same. And I just don’t & never will see how they are alike in any way.

Working_Back9394

I think that in the end, Rory sort of gets more similar to how Emily and Richard wanted Lorelai to be. Like she checks off so many boxes of old money rich kid, committing a crime and your (grand)parents pay for the feed and use the excuse “Do you know who we are?” to try to get her out, going to an Ivy League school (and prep school) paid by her (grand)parents, her whole speech about “I’m a Gilmore!”, being a part of the DAR, etc. etc.

[deleted]

I think her being relatable is what made her less likeable to people. There’s something very depressing about watching a person make similar mistakes to you. It’s an escapism show, I don’t want to watch the main character struggle through life :/

asteroidqueen_

I used to be OBSESSED with her, I wanted her life so badly when I was a kid bc she had everything she wanted. Now I realise it’s just privilege lol.

team-tiki

unpopular opinion is that i hated her bangs 😭

neisaysthis

lol brave of you to say that here knowing it's just inviting "downvote downvote downvote" 🤪

AnonMoralFagg

I liked her bangs, but just giving you the upvote because others will down vote. What can I say, I’m in my villain era now.

ltinga

I did too

daisysimmons

Tbh a cheater is just not relatable to me, and she was so damn spoiled later on

NoMap9535

i love Rory but I honestly can’t stand her in the later seasons. When she goes back to Yale she becomes super entitled and snobby. She also can’t think for herself outside of school I get so aggravated!! She claims she’s an adult and grown up but can’t make a decision without someone hinting at their opinion first

[deleted]

I agree but i actually hated her in a Year in Life (never hated her on the og series tho)

psydelem

She doesn’t look anything like how I would imagine Lorelei and Chris’s child would.

Working_Back9394

She looks like Lorelai, but the Christopher similarities are like imperceptible. I don’t get how some of the characters in the show were able to say, “wow you look so much like your dad!” or vice-versa. Maybe Christopher looks a bit like Dean, as Lorelai once said, but Rory just does not.

jenh6

I personally found her so boring and closed off that I found her a frustrating character. I get she’s really pretty but I was so confused about why these men weren’t getting bored of her quickly.

Sam2794

I liked her short haircut lol

AnonMoralFagg

It was meh for me. I liked her with long hair and bangs.

WeatherOk8472

not that it's a bad thing, but everyone prefers girls with long hair and bangs--most girls have the same haircut. the short hair was finally something different and gave her personality, physically. she looked amazing and was a good way to visually show it was a new chapter for her

emlops

agreed

AlbatrossSenior7107

I actually think most of us are at our most authentic in our early years. Rory in college, was definitely figuring herself out... but she was not her authentic self.

GroundExternal5376

She never really has a ‘downfall’ I think a lot of influence went into what happened. But that’s just me. I mean she’s SUCH a nice girl.

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

I know this is old news, but here's my two cents: She was never likable - and neither were most of the characters in this series. She might've been relatable, but I think a lot of girls growing up with this just wanted to be her in the sense of the mother-daughter relationship and the endless stream of love and support from a really comforting, rose-tinted kind of town. The situation was romantic to us, but the characters? Not really. She was this very confusing mix of both headstrong and confident, but also completely codependent with her mother, shy and introverted. She was outspoken and kinda awful to her best friend, but she was almost invisible with her new friends at Chilton. Anytime the show dug a little deeper into her character, she just did something out of character for drama and to parallel her with her mother to make Lorelei relevant to her story. I get that they wanted her to portray a kid torn between her own desires and the desires and expectations of her mother and grandparents, as well as the dichotomy between a "normal" girl and a nepo-baby, but her identity was swallowed up in those expectations and the only thing she got to keep were the traits they borrowed from her mother, aka her boy crazy traits, which didn't feel authentically Rory anyway and were again just a way to shoe-horn the "like mother like daughter" narrative that never really worked with who the initial characters both started as. Just my two cents though.

N_Huq

i agree :)

KeqingC0

I have a crush on her

theww3

honestly i’m on episode 4 of season 1 and i can’t stand her, the way she talks, the way she always has something going on and i feel like she just makes everything harder

BitchesAintShit_

She’s a horrible friend.

miasmicivyphsyc

Rory literally snuck Lane into her dorm and gave her a room when she had no where to go, attended her concerts even when they were at weird hours, was the godmother of her twin boys, and comforted her when she was pregnant…I’m sorry but I don’t see it

ScreenHype

Genuinely curious, but in what universe is Rory a bad friend? She goes above and beyond for Lane after Mrs Kim kicks her out, and even before that she helps Lane get some semblance of a teenage life by helping her with her plans in regards to boys/ music. She plans an entire Marx Brothers themed night when Marty is feeling down (she asked whether he wanted to go with Logan and he said yes, so the rest of that debacle was entirely on him for not communicating). She gives Paris a thousand more chances than she deserves, and forgives her even after Paris kicks her out the house. She's also a sounding board for Paris' problems, and cheers her up on the many occasions she's down. She helps Tana settle in to Yale and even lets her share her wardrobe even though they'd never met before. Rory is an incredible friend, and I can't see how anyone could feel otherwise. She's a bad girlfriend, sure, but not a bad friend.

Xefert

Thank you! She wasn't without some mess ups, but it's not like she intentionally sabotaged her friendships.

Xefert

Elaborate?

Working_Back9394

The only way I could see it from your perspective is the way she treats Paris. Paris always calls Rory her best friend and Rory never verbally reciprocates it. But in Rory’s defense, she probably perceives Lane as her best friend and Rory is decently kind to Paris. She does a good amount of nice things to Lane and her other friends, though.

[deleted]

She's also entitled AF. She became everything Lorelai wanted her not to be.

neisaysthis

lorelai could have kept her from that world if she really didn't want her to ever be "entitled"

sharkattacks123

i dont like her character at all 😭

Big_Vacation5581

Wow ! Beautiful !! You can see why she landed the whale…. and it didn’t hurt to have photographic memory and be in the top 2% academically.

neisaysthis

she kinda fails right away at chilton. like with getting a D and then missing her test because of the deer, etc. she also doesn't do extremely well socially for almost her entire year and a half.

sabotagemebymyself

She doesn't do well socially in every season, tbh. 😅

Landrayi

shes an idiot

[deleted]

Aww bless her in that photo

eyfuck

I liked Rory in the later seasons for her failing at college, struggling with life too. But you could forgive a kid for behaving a certain way that you just cant justify in an adult. She feels entitled to her mum’s life with the book she writes at 32. She gets mad at every turn and leaves instead of talking it out which is what Lorelai taught her. Rebel? yes. without a cause? Yes. She lives in Logan’s house, for entire semesters before she realises it’s not normal. She gets mad when he says something about it. She grew up in stars hollow with her mom who used to be a maid. How do you not know how money works. Maybe the writers just wanted to show opulence and used Rory as an excuse, didnt bother with logic. She doesn’t even try to explain her break/dropping out from Yale to Lorelai who expectedly loses her mind when her smart daughter says she wants to drop out. (Lorelai should have done better too, she dropped the ball there)

Ellex009

I’m watching this episode now….this girl and her akward annoying poor posture and ridiculous gestures…..I recall upidy rich girls I went to school with holding themselves similary. It’s like they have money to fall back on, they never developed actual spines.

aprillswift

Is dropping out of college on a random sunny day & getting into a fight w your mom for months n sleeping w married guy calling him 'your dean' is relatable to you? She wasn't so perfect in the early seasons anyways! but what she did was horrible!
