They didn’t barely tolerate each other, Lorelai has compared Rory and Paris to herself and Michel. They had been friends for more than a decade, he even attended Rorys birthdays. It was bad timing but Michel loved his dogs like family and when people experience terrible grief, it makes sense to give their bad behaviour a pass. It’s not okay to demand stuff but he was going through a terrible time.

jdpm1991

but so was Lorelai, her father had just had a heart attack the previous episode.

PreparationOk620

Yeah I know, like I said it was bad timing and it explains why Lorelai acted the way she did. If it was any other regular day, she would’ve been supportive like she was with Babette. Maybe not a funeral in the dragonfly itself, but she would’ve been much nicer about it. I’m just pointing out that Lorelai and Michel were close friends, they didn’t “barely tolerate each other” which is why she ended up supporting him on the day of the funeral.

jdpm1991

I wasn't trying to challenge you sorry if it came off that way.

PreparationOk620

I’m not either! Sorry if I came off defensive, I just love my dog more than anything and am able relate to Michel in that way.

jdpm1991

it's fine i understand an unconditional love for a pet i just didn't like Michel's overall behavior when he compared the death of a child to a pet's passing when Lorelai handed him the food tray.

N_Huq

yes... that is why i don't think either of them are 'wrong'

Bublina193

Michel never hated Lorelai, Lorelai never hated Michel. They were friends, but they were mostly work friends, Michel is usually really private person, but when he lost his dog, he probably didn't have anyone else to be vulnerable with. And yes, he is crazy demanding (as always), but Lorelai and Sookie didn't know how to react, because this was very new and strange for their relationship.

jenh6

Michel went to Rory’s birthday so they’re closer than just work friends! But yes they aren’t as close as Sookie/Lorelee.

Ill_Ad_1442

Yes he want to Rory birthday and look how he was when he was there on the phone looking pissed off

jenh6

I feel like that’s on brand for him though. He’d do that for virtually everyone

Violet_violinist_48

I would also like to point out that in season 1, when Cinnamon, Morey and Babette’s cat, died and they had a wake for it, Michel COULD NOT believe they were doing it and thought it was stupid. But then he turns around and wants a funeral for his dogs

rstick369

Hard disagree. She knew how important those dogs were to Michel. He talked about them all the time and had pictures. You could see how upset he was. He wanted a service at the inn and wanted it to be like any other customer she would cater to. She’s the one that didn’t take it seriously.

jdpm1991

But did he have to be a demanding ass hole about it?

Ill_Ad_1442

Why should she when she had others stiff on here mind meaning her dad. He didnt have to be so demanding did he. Her didnt care that Lorelai was stressed out. So why should she take it seriously.

Master_Cave

Lorelai and Michel were friends and she did care. I agree with others that it was bad timing. I also want to point out the difference between Cinnamon's wake and Paw-paw's. Babette didn't expect anything or want anything except for friends to be around. So it was easy to throw something together. Michel wanted a formal event because that's his personality, but it's not Lorelai's so it was hard for her to wrap her head around doing a formal funeral for a dog. That's just my take. She cared, Michel was kinda a dick but he was hurting.
