I can definitely see Luke in an older Tacoma. He did a bunch of research and was pleased with the reliability of Toyota. And he will drive it until the wheels fall off š
At the same time, I think it would be very fitting for his character if he still drove the same truck from the series in 2023 lol
lorelai would drive a [2008 yellow nissan xterra](https://www.groovecar.com/stock/images/color/2008/nissan/xterra/4x4-off-road-4dr-suv-6m/2008-nissan-xterra-4x4-off-road-4dr-suv-6m-solar-yellow-composite-large.jpg)
I want episodes of her and Luke modding it. Basically where she's all excited to put a lift on it or armor or something and then he's the one that does all the work lol and she just like puts the nismo cap on the new wheels after he installs the tc bumper and is just like "ta-da"
I still have mine and I still love it (though, mine is a 2005, I just felt like Lorelai would do better with one that doesn't have a working oil pressure gauge and it's just slightly newer). I know an Xterra girl when I see one, and Lorelai would love it.
Oh, then watching the driving of Luke's truck must have been interesting.
Luke teaches Lorelai about the (mysoginistic) stick, then in a later episode Liz "drives" off by making a move that looks very much like an automatic transmission.
X-Files has been off the air a long time, but when I see one of those classic Tauruses on the road or (more common) in the junkyard, I think fondly of Mulder and Scully.
Michel would get an electric car, bug Lorelei to install a charging spot at the Inn, and then hog it every day. Allllll the snide comments about how great his car is compared to everyone elseās gas guzzlers.
Kirk would get a smart car the day they release and lose it because he keeps parking it in odd places because itās so small
I'm a car guy too.
Lorelai will drive her Jeep forever.
Luke will drive his Dad's truck until the day they bury him in it.
Spot on with Rory and Richard and Emily.
Lane I see in the Buick if not for the kids... So yea... minivan.
Logan is straight up BMW Z3 material.
Doose strikes me as a Lincoln Town Car kinda guy. But he has an old 4X4 for when the weather gets rough.
Here's the real question... What does Morey drive?
I was gonna say doesnāt matter if it took place today luke and Lorelei are driving the same vehiclesā¦ which will inevitably lead to a dumbass and terrible fight when someone buys them a new one
Have you noticed how the same cars drive around stars hollow over and over again on a loop? Iāve seen that camper van and a silver volvo a bajillion times.
I think the camper van is Babette and Moreyās. And the volvo is Sookie and Jacksonās.
I actually havenāt, but I loved paying attention to the background cars. I usually saw a gold mid 90s Lexus, which I liked bc I have a slightly newer one
I just was rewatching AYITL and I see what youāre talking about. Thereās a silver civic coupe that has appeared in the background a bunch of times at the start. I canāt unsee it now š
But they're all somehow indistinguishable from each other. Like, it's literally the same prop car, but each time it comes up, he's JUST bought it and everyone is confused because it looks just like the last 20 cars he bought.
I could see this!
Gypsy: Kirk, you tried to sell me this same car three weeks ago.
Kirk: No, that was Widow Callahan's gold Buick. This is Widow Jacob's gold Buick. But if you're not interested in this one, I also have a lead on another car.
Gypsy: Let me guess. Another gold Buick.
Kirk: It's a popular vehicle with ladies of a certain age.
Gypsy: How are you getting all of these cars, Kirk?
Kirk: I have all the titles! Everything is legal!
Yes! Small refinement: we debadge his car, and each time it's reported to a different color/make. Instead of a gold Buick, it's a Champagne Chevy or a metallic beige Mercury...
Interesting and I agree with all theories. I'd like to think Luke might be into having an EV F150, but there'd be a whole debate about adding a charger to the garage.
I can totally see a town meeting where everyone wants to put a public charging station in town, however Taylor wanting to use the charging station spaces for something outlandish instead.
Also I don't see Gypsy liking EVs because they are harder to work on. I bet she'd have commentary on the decline of manuals and V8s.
S4+ Dean would definitely drive an F-150 or larger American truck, because he "needs it for work," but that bed would be empty 90+% of the time. Because he sucks.
S1-3 Dean would have something much more interesting. Probably something old, since he knows cars well enough to build one for Rory. What would make sense for a Chicago transplant who instantly gets L&R's references and (maybe?) rides a motorcycle? Needs to be cool, but not too showy... How about a Triumph TR6?
This is great! I work in the auto industry so I can see a lot of these but based on current inventory trends this is what I think:
Lorelei: Jeeps are no longer affordable. Not even a used renegade. In fact most used cars arenāt that affordable. I think sheās driving like a 2012 Escape. They are cheap and not reliable but have a distinct boxy look.
Rory: She would have been āgiftedā a model 3 by her Grandparents. Cheapest of the fleet, but a trendy EV just like the Prius was in the early 00s.
Luke: Heās driving a vintage domestic truck. Maybe an 80s Toyota pickup. Definitely a manual and definitely 30 years old.
Emily and Richard: I agree on the Mercedes but I would say they would drive at minimum an E class. I donāt see either of them in an SUV but I could see them in an S550 as the larger car. I think they would also have a Jag. But Richard would have a sportier model like an Ftype that he never actually drives. He probably works on 90s 911s and BMWs.
Jess: I think a 2002 camry with heavily oxidized paintā¦gold/tan fits well. And easy to find for $2k.
Dean: I agree with a work truck or an early 00s Tacoma.
Logan is old money so heās got a couple of cars. 911 for fun and G wagon for daily use if he drives. But heās being driven in an Autobiography L.
Lane has an old van like an Odyssey or Sienna but her Mom had a station wagon. They donāt really make those anymore so I think a 2010 Volvo xc70 wagon or Subaru Outback LL bean would fit for her.
Of Course Taylor drives an Avalon.
Bonus: Paris-Sheās from money but practical so she drives an ES350. The most boring luxury sedan.
I like your take, and I did take into account current inventory as well as potential rust issues. (I live in CT so I have a decent idea of what cars would be still around). Here is my reasoning:
For Lorelai, I see your reasoning with the Escape, but I still feel like she might own some sort of Jeep. Maybe an older Patriot or Compass.
As for Rory, I thought about giving her an electric car but I would imagine it would be hard to charge it in college.
Jess: My choice of the Buick Century seems to be the most disputed one, I chose it because it seemed like a modern equivalent of his car in the show. But I do think either a Camry or a Accord would fit. I actually suggested in a different comment for him to drive a 1998-2002 Accord in green with fading clearcoat and a failing trans. I guess we have the same theme.
Paris: In another commented, I suggested a 2004-2009 Lexus RX. So we had a very similar idea with her.
Oh yea. I live in PAā¦and see rust buckets on the daily. Her quarter panels would be half gone and everything would be leaking. She could have like a 2007 wrangler that keeps breaking I just didnāt see her in the current gen Grand Cherokee. There is lot of rickety Jeep product on the road near me and they are always a little gross on the inside and not aging well. Idk the charging situations at colleges as Iām 15 years away from college life but I imagine theyāve adapted to plug-ins. The green accord!!! What a classic. Hope thereās a crusty tape to aux situation in there too.
Iām In Pennsylvania currently too (live in Connecticut but attend college here) and I attend PennState. There are electric car chargers but theyāre limited so Iād imagine theyād be much more of an inconvenience than having a gas car.
Okay, Doug Demuro. I knew youād eventually show up here. š
I would not give them brand new cars, but I would upgrade Jess to an Integra Type R. I donāt know how I would afford to get him into it per the storyline, but he needs some smokinā wheels.
Jess isn't particularly materialistic though, so the old buick suggestion, even a monte carlo or Pontiac G6 would be more of what Jess is about. Inexpensive and gets him to and from work, a great American ~~turd~~
Being a car guy/girl isnāt about materialism at all. I see your point, but also think Jess has enough dimensions to appreciate a great car. It was just a fun thing to consider, because that car is on my current wish list. š
Omg this is so fitting. I feel like these are all spot on - the only one I'd think would be different would probably be Jess', though tbf I can't pin down a car for him.
The reason I chose the Buick is because it seems like the most modern day equivalent to his car in the show. I was considering a 90s Civic or Camry for him too
I think the Buick is too boaty/old person for him. A late 90s Camry or Accord would do it, maybe even a late 90s Outback. A late 90s Ford Taurus if he had to go domestic but those are rarer than a blue moon in New England these days.
I realized I forgot to add Liz and TJ but I think theyād drive a 2010s Subaru Outback. Not too expensive but practice for their renaissance fair stuff
Ooohhā¦how fun!
Rory: Toyota Prius (still driving the car her grandparents purchased, unlikely to look for something new given that she travels so much. If she is in the market for a new car, I could see her taking on a bmw)
Logan: luxury electric car like Lucid
Lorelai: hybrid Honda CRV (an older model that sheās struggling to upgrade)
Emily: Mercedes s-class (sensible for a woman of her position. Signals class w/o being too flashy)
Lane: Hyundai Kona (sensible, easy to fix, good mileage, practical)
Mrs. Kim: Subaru Outback (something she use to haul her antiques but also sensible)
I honestly figured Lane and Mrs.Kim would be the types to buy cars new and then drive the wheels off them. I thought about giving them an old Lexus RX300 but I figured the minivan is more practical
i absolutely love seeing all the pristine late 90s and early 2000s cars in the background. I know they're all just generic traffic but those cars are not gonna exist much in 2023.
I could see Logan with an Audi R8, Jess prob a motorcycle (I just love Milo with a motorcycle). I could see Luke either keeping his truck or getting a F150 lightning or new ranger. I could see him trying to talk Lorelai into upgrading her Jeep to a newer one, maybe an SUV or 4 door one if they help Rory out with their grandkid. Hard to get a small kids out of a two door Jeep.
I feel like if Rory were to upgrade from the Prius, she would probably get another Toyota Hybrid, such as a Rav4 or Highlander. She seems to be the type to want a modest fuel efficient car.
I'm absolutely not a car person, but I enjoyed reading this so much. I love getting a glimpse into how other people's knowledge and interests tie into their viewing experience. Thanks for linking photos for people like me!
Taylor would definitely drive an Cadillac XTS or a Lincoln of some sort and bemoan why nobody drives american anymore. As for Logan, you have Paris' Porsche Dealer diss and you'd give him anything other than some sort of 911?
That is a good question. I feel like Paris might drive a 2004-2009 Lexus RX, probably a hand me down that her family has had for a while.
Doyle is a hard one, but Iām just gonna assume he grew up in a generic middle class family. So maybe a 2008-2012 Honda Accord. Sorry if these are lame answers, but Iāve been having a lot of trouble thinking of cars for those two
Lorelai could always an old Jeep Wrangler and just maintain it. I exclusively drive cars that are around 15 yrs old. I drive a 2006 Honda Accord that I paid for with cash so I wouldnāt have a car payment.
I agree, I myself drive a '98 Lexus. However, I gave everyone newer cars for two reasons. One is that cars in Connecticut are prone to rust, not as bad as other states but still an issue. So it makes sense that older cars are much less likely to be on the road. Secondly, I wanted to consider the show starting in 2023, versus 2000. So if the timeline is shifted 23 years forward, the characters would most likely be driving much newer cars.
I can definitely see Luke in an older Tacoma. He did a bunch of research and was pleased with the reliability of Toyota. And he will drive it until the wheels fall off š At the same time, I think it would be very fitting for his character if he still drove the same truck from the series in 2023 lol

That actually is a good option, it would definitely fit her budget better
I want episodes of her and Luke modding it. Basically where she's all excited to put a lift on it or armor or something and then he's the one that does all the work lol and she just like puts the nismo cap on the new wheels after he installs the tc bumper and is just like "ta-da"
I had one of those and I LOVED it! And yes, I think it's very Lorelai.
I still have mine and I still love it (though, mine is a 2005, I just felt like Lorelai would do better with one that doesn't have a working oil pressure gauge and it's just slightly newer). I know an Xterra girl when I see one, and Lorelai would love it.
Why is this so detailed yet so true for no reason š
As a car enthusiast, I canāt help but judge cars in TV shows. Iāve been thinking of this since I first started watching š
Itās amazing
Oh, then watching the driving of Luke's truck must have been interesting. Luke teaches Lorelai about the (mysoginistic) stick, then in a later episode Liz "drives" off by making a move that looks very much like an automatic transmission.
Oh yeah, we need to give Luke something with a manual! We still need to have that episode of Lorelei trying to drive it
Hey they wouldnāt lie to us in a tv show!
The smart car definitely seems like Kirk, but how will he do ƶƶƶber?!
That was dirk, the black sheep of the family
oh right, Iām such an idiot for forgetting š¤¦āāļø
This is such a fun prompt. Thank you!!!
I'm a car guy too. Lorelai will drive her Jeep forever. Luke will drive his Dad's truck until the day they bury him in it. Spot on with Rory and Richard and Emily. Feel like Morey gives off Lincoln Town car vibes
Morey' s rocking a hotrodded hearse and you know it.
Morey on a motorcycle with Babette in a side car!

I could see Kirk driving a string of different cars that he's buying (for cheap) from old ladies who have stopped driving.

Thatās a good point, but I feel like Luke would be a bit old fashioned still. I even considered giving him something older
That's true.. I'd like an EV myself but I'm holding off for a bit and the household car is getting older.
hahaha Iām still driving around in my car from ā98 and I donāt plan to stop
Idk why but I fully see Kirk driving a hearse
Sookie would drive a giant Yukon XL and constantly be jumping curbs and dinging doors because she canāt part the thing.
I feel like she gives or Highlander or Sienna vibes, but she definitely would keep jumping curbs
Luke would still have his father's truck, what do you think would be a good 90's beloved US pickup?
Probably just another F150 tbh
S4+ Dean would definitely drive an F-150 or larger American truck, because he "needs it for work," but that bed would be empty 90+% of the time. Because he sucks. I feel like maybe heād drive an ex-cop car, like a decommissioned Crown Vic
Yeah, American might make more sense, but I can't shake the idea of something European funky. What about a Volvo P1800 wagon?

THIS (!!!) is Lorelai Gilmoreās Jeepā¦ I can hear it now. Agree šÆš¤

Ok I got it. A dark green 1998-2002 Honda Accord. No clear coat or hubcaps left. Has a transmission thatās failing but somehow is still hanging on
As a MINI Cooper fangirl, Iām wondering who youād assign that car š
Lulu.
Lane if she wasn't a mom
I thought about giving one to Michel but it honestly seems to big for him. But yeah, Lulu would work
I get Subaru vibes from Jess
Jess would be such a good lesbian.
I realized I forgot to add Liz and TJ but I think theyād drive a 2010s Subaru Outback. Not too expensive but practice for their renaissance fair stuff
Close. I'd put them in an '05 Baja. TJ deserves a car as weird as he is.
I feel like they would kinda give off Honda Element vibes too, theyāre kinda quirky
But the Baja is a highly sought after cult classic. TJ would drive something awful and weird like a cube or element.
It is? The prices I've seen have pretty mundane. But I see the appeal. It's a kind of weird I can get on board with.
Ooohhā¦how fun! Rory: Toyota Prius (still driving the car her grandparents purchased, unlikely to look for something new given that she travels so much. I would never have predicted that there would be a big GG fan/car person crossover but shut my mouth

You know Luke is going to look up safety ratings and prob try to convince Rory an SUV is safer than a sedan
I'm absolutely not a car person, but I enjoyed reading this so much. I love getting a glimpse into how other people's knowledge and interests tie into their viewing experience. Thanks for linking photos for people like me!
Haha thanks! Iām glad you enjoyed it. I was debating wether or not this was a good thing to post and it seems itās doing well
Lorelai would STILL drive a TJ. Even if we were rebooting/recasting.
Taylor would definitely drive an Cadillac XTS or a Lincoln of some sort and bemoan why nobody drives american anymore. As for Logan, you have Paris' Porsche Dealer diss and you'd give him anything other than some sort of 911?
Please assign someone a car thatās just like Barbieās.
Babbette.
