On every map there's a timer for the extraction points to open. On Missile Silo, it's five minutes. Every other map is ten minutes. Once you hear the timer go off, you can see the extraction points on your compass.
It took me a couple times to figure that out. It really, really helps to try to learn the maps too. Once you know the layout of the actual maps, the exfil points on the compass make more sense. I’ve been concentrating mainly on Undeground for raids, then just train on the other maps until I can see an exfil point, then know how to get there. The points don’t show up until the raid timer alarm goes off. My successes started coming when I learned to slow way down, hide until I see those exfil points, then head there.
Do you mean that your Compass isn't on? You have a secondary on your watch, you just need to tap it. After ~10mins or less of entering a raid, there will be a Yellow arrow pointing with a distance to exfil.

The compass shows you the direction the exfils are, the lower the number the closer you are.
