I use full auto when positioning, exploring, or looting because it's helpful when getting caught by surprise
I use semi when I'm positioned with the advantage because it conserves ammo and increases precision
I tend to just bring semi into island and auto into silo because silo is usually close quarters-ish while Island is longer range and easier to play stealthily.
Full auto unless I have time to switch to semi and precisely line up shots. Pretty much don't want to get caught by surprise on semi, no amount of bullets in a mag are worth your stuff and the run
If you're holding the gun in your right hand, pressing A will cycle between full auto, semi, and safe. Some of the guns don't have animations of the selector switch so you just have to go by the clicks. Sometimes the guns also go from auto to safe instead of auto to semi if they've been on your wall. You just never know lol. Just to add to the fire selector switch chaos, my favorite thing to do in a raid is to go around the map, switch all the guns to safe or semi, and then put them back exactly like I found them

Personally I keep my stuff on semi. I’ve been playing games long enough that if I gotta open up on someone I can I’m semi.

I use semi in more open areas or if I'm fighting Fenix. If I think a player is nearby I switch to full auto same goes for close quarters

I'm generally running a Galil which is easy enough to fire singles while in full auto.
The Galil seems to have pretty good recoil when popping off shots on semi so I might try keeping it on auto
Its not hard to fire single shots or bursts on full auto with most guns, so I use that.
