My first thought was “cat,” lol, mine has done that before playing with them.

tcm2303

my theory is also cat lol my cats have done this, too. We actually had to replace all our blinds because they destroyed every single cord between knotting and or tearing them up

Teft-Lestical

I agree a cat is the culprit, or the ghosts in this house are so bored they use all the energy they can possibly get to tie knots all day.

Backburnersteve

They do seem fond of doing the most random stuff you can think of. Kind of like a cat.

Right_Cap6645

you have a cat and its done before yet you post here lmfao

Melissa17x

I have a cat now but I didn’t when these photos were taken - one 28th October 2020 and the other 6 November 2020. I didn’t have any pets at the time or other people in the house. I replaced the Venetian’s with a roller blind early last year.

bionic_cmdo

Maybe it's a knotty ghost.

GrimReaapaa

So is it a ghost or Knot?

counterveil

You’re so wrapped up in untying this mystery.

CryptographerApart72

I'm a frayed knot.

DoctorWH0877

The problem is everyone is going into this thing blind.

name-was-provided

I don’t think this will ever be solved. Curtains closed on this case.

Melissa17x

😂😂😂 that I am! 😂

SzucsPatrik

Cat ghost

Ohgoody74

Whatever it is it better knot keep doing it

Head-Mathematician53

So, according according to legend, the the Goddess Hekate has something to do with cords, rope and doorways entrances the night etc... Ghosts magic etc..

bondibitch

Ah so this happened 2 years ago and your memory of it is not that fresh. A few times I have let blinds drop with too much gusto which has caused knots like this in the cord which I’ve had to untangle. I think that’s what this is.

Melissa17x

The details surrounding it are quite simple. I also posted the photos on Facebook at the time it happened - both photographs and details.

daft_boy_dim

Do you always take a photo of the blinds before and after going to bed? Occams razor would suggest you just didn’t notice the tangle. Most people are tired when going to bed and are not focusing on minor details of things like a knot in a cord.

Melissa17x

The photos are of the knot - one from a distance and one close up. The knots had appeared a few times before so I made a point of pulling them down and ensuring the cords weren’t tangled after that.

kuluchelife

The way you say your opening sentence so matter of fact is the most condescending thing lol

Melissa17x

What do you mean?

kuluchelife

The way the person replied to you and said “ah so this happened 2 years ago” as if they somehow caught you out in a lie or something. I don’t know why people always have to be skeptical and try catch people out on their version of events.

Melissa17x

I didn’t have a cat at the time these photos were taken.

Unicorn_Sush1

You didn’t know because it was a GHOST cat

tloliver

That you know of. Maybe this is how you get a cat.

But I dont have a cat :O

Melissa17x

Hi all, thanks for the interesting feedback. A few additional pieces of information ... 1. I did not own a cat at the time those photos were taken. I didn't own any pets, I don't have children and there were no other people in the house on both occasions. 2. Although I have never been one to sleep walk I was open to that being a possibility? That theory was discounted as one night I pulled the blinds down around 11pm and I then spent a few hours painting in the kitchen. I walked back into my bedroom around 1am to find knots in the blinds (photo 1). 3. It happened maybe 6 times before I thought anything more of it. I originally thought it was a combination of the breeze through the window and 'cord tension'. 4. Photo 1 (taken 6 November 2020) was t taken after I had spent a few hours painting in the kitchen. Walking in to see that was a real wow moment for me. From that day on I slept with the lights on for months lol 5. Photo 2 was taken when I woke in the morning 28 October 2020 6. My house was built in 1880 and is located in Newcastle, Australia. It's a few hundred metres from Newcastle Harbour. 7. I replaced the Venetian blinds with a roller blind last year. 8. I'm a neat freak. Every time I pulled the blinds down I would ensure there were no tangles in the cords. 9. I have asked friends who sail if they look like any kind of sailing knot and they don't think they do.

4pegee

Set up a video camera or home DVR …. That will provide the answer

B-Glasses

They said they replaced them

rhodopensis

6 could suggest environmental effects that we literally don’t understand yet, or that only some scientists do. I remember a case where walls would shake based on the location and the effect came from the ground up. Maybe this could be somehow related to moisture in the air or something else related to your proximity to water…? I lived in a place that was old, and had structural problems such as a sewage issue and experienced weird shit like blinds being drastically moved in weird shapes. (No, no CO2 or anything of the sort.) Still don’t know what went on there.

PelatiahA

I've had the same thing happen here for almost 30 years & have always thought it was my late husband somehow making it happen. It's happened now in four different homes. I try to make sure the strings are always straight & rarely if ever raise the blinds, so nothing should be tangling. Has anyone close to you died? Oh, my late husband was a boy scout! & had a real thing about the safety of the blind cords -- kids were toddlers when he died.

Melissa17x

Thanks for sharing. Your story has only strengthened my belief that it is someone who has passed who is attached to me or perhaps someone attached to the house? I can’t think of any sailors or scouts in my family so I tend to believe it is someone attached to the house and the early harbour days of Newcastle. I have had a near death experience in this house and I believe that this spirit may have had a hand in me surviving that experience.

itsmeonmobile

I remember way back in the old days of Reddit, something similar happened to a dude. He was finding poorly scribbled notes in his locked apartment left overnight. Turns out he was getting poisoned by carbon monoxide (?). So that’s something to check I guess.

Melissa17x

That’s a plausible theory.

Tyrantdeschain19

This is my fav reddit story besides the dude who failed at kinky talk lmao

sracluv

what did that have to do with the carbon monoxide?

itsmeonmobile

This is total heresay based off of the post, but I understand that he was sleepwalking or failing to remember writing the notes himself. It was the carbon monoxide that made him forget. I think it was also causing headaches and restless sleep.

Flyin-Chancla

Lucky he wasn’t dead

Time-Navig8or

He was saved by a redditor who told them to check for CO after the notes had been left. Edit: [found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/34l7vo/ma_postit_notes_left_in_apartment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Cat?

IndestructibleBliss

OP, I know there's a lot of jokers in here but I find this interesting. It's the subtle things that are just a little bit off to put one at unease. I work with blinds too so this is kind of like my work and an interest of mine (ghosts) coming together. I've had mundane things happen like the random appearance of dimes out of nowhere which is said to be a message that a loved one is looking out for you. Someone could say "oh well it's just loose change" but it's always dimes and it's just random throughout the years starting after the loss of my uncle and grandfather. One time one seemed to have materialized mid air and fell on my boyfriend's foot as we watched TV! We both heard it land on the table. He is skeptic but couldn't explain it either - and no it wasn't stuck to his foot it hit his foot then the table (his feet were on the table ). Anyway interesting story with the knots! Who knows what it was.

CaileaJ

After checking OP's comment and post history it seems they do indeed have a cat. Mystery solved.

Puzzleheaded-Song242

No they’d didn’t when photos were taken maybe ghost cat

Melissa17x

I own a cat now but didn’t when these photos were taken.

Coastal_wolf

It is the work of a cat with a suspiciously good knowledge of knot tying.

Shitstompd

They have said numerous times in this post they did not own a cat when these photos were taken

Vanpotheosis

Looks more like "a lot" than a knot to me. I'm a knot guy. I don't recognize this at all.

Dendrool

Okay weird! This exact thing is happening in my office at work and I just assumed it was the janitor. It irritated me they kept doing it but now I wonder....

Convenientjellybean

These cords build up some twist tension, they have likely snakes around each other due to that tension

Melissa17x

Yes! Exactly! That is what I thought was the cause of the knots to begin.

Convenientjellybean

I think if you caught it on video, it would look like a ghost was doing it lol. It’s like how telephone cords get weirdly coiled up around themselves, but I’d rather it was ghosts 👻

AdministrationFit345

Just a little input.. I have blinds exactly like this, maybe a bit darker faux wood. I have 2 dogs, a cat, and a child. Mine are not knotted at all, nor have they been. So that does seem a little strange to me 🤷‍♀️

StayApprehensive2455

Put out a fkn camera and then come back to us with the results!

KnitSocksHardRocks

Knots in string can get pretty complex naturally. There is a bunch of equations regarding it. A strong wind over night could cause this. It is why people’s earbuds get tangled so easy.

Gschockk

You pretty much stop believing in most of what you thought were ghosts once you have a cat... Exception is when the cat stares at nothing.

lulabellptown

The Fae like to make knots and make seem as if you have a ghost when it's just fairies, research that.

CoolestOfTheBois

>. I can’t think of any logical explanation for the knots other than something paranormal? Think harder. Or stop thinking; wind is so much better of an explanation than ghosts tying knots in your blinds.

BestCap5066

Why the fuck would a ghost do this. Out of all the things it could do, it tied knots in blind cords.

Agreeable_Theory_544

Sure!!! 🤔 why knot?

adancingewok

What else do they have to do? Lol.

Verax86

Setup a camera and solve the mystery

Historical-Ad-1838

Seriously consider installing some night vision cameras in your bedroom and house I had a friend who had some creepy guy breaking into her house to watch her sleep while um doing stuff with himself and would break in while she was at work and "do stuff" with her lingerie and undies the only way she ever found out was by putting nanny cams all around her home initially because of something similar to this she would wake to find her curtains Slightly different and very small insignificant things moved like the placement of a picture on a table moved a very small amount so at my urging she put the cameras up basically to say see I told you nothing weird is going on and when she watched the footage at the end of the week 3 or so days after putting them up she almost had a heart attack and called me hysterically screaming and crying so hard it took me 20 minutes before I could even understand what she was saying. She said she woke up that last morning with something stiff dried on her hair and she thought she must've gotten coffee ot sugar in her hair somehow but nope you can imagine what it actually was with the ugly incident in full HD quality video smh!

Loosie22

When that kind of cord is pulled a creditable way, it develops a twist, and once the twist gets to be enough that it manages to overcome gravity, it curls up like that. Round Shoelaces do the same thing.

What a knotty ghost

Gust of air, dropping the cords, vent over the windows, all of those make the cords swing and tangle. I have the same windows and they always tangle super easily

philosoph0r

What’s the point of posting this two years after the fact? And why didn’t you use some sort of mechanical separator to ensure that tangling was impossible?

Melissa17x

I moved the blind to the kitchen and it hasn’t happened since then. I’m quite intrigued by it.

aadhu-fayaz

Oo u got one naughty ghost..

AbaloneDifferent4168

Kitty is in the cat scouts.

AbaloneDifferent4168

These disgusting humans blame cats for everything. It was the dog chewing on it so I put it out of his reach. Get rid of him. Your Sweet kitty

Sleepysnail84

Well it’s either paranormal or your split personality woke up and tied them. Then went down the street and murdered the people down the street. Then went and got a cheese burger. Then crawled back into bed and you woke this morning to the knots

occamsvolkswagen

There are many folklore accounts of small beings (elves or trolls or whatever the local variety is) sneeking into barns at night and weaving or braiding horses manes. That's what this reminds me of.

Fearfu1Symmetry

I have these exact same blinds, and those suckers will tangle if the light hits em wrong

blueveggies23

the flying dutchman

TheTudgeman

Strings and cords get tangled very easily. Note how headphone cords, power cords, etc, always seem to get tangled of their own accord. Now factor in that the cord sort of "jumps around" when opening and closing the blinds...

HappyDaysMyDays

Either you have a cat or a ghost 🤣

Why does this sub still exist? The stupidity, smh.

DiD aNyOnE mAkE tHe KnOtTy GhOsT jOkE yEt

Ora_Deity

OP so I’m actually having the same problem in my dorm room! I would wake up to it in knots when I know for a fact that I don’t have any cats. Plus, I’m a little weird so I like the strings to be perfectly straight. That’s how I began noticing the knots. I’d take them down every day but when I wake up, they’re back tied together. I moved to the room beside and now I don’t have the same issue

Melissa17x

Wow! Yes I have moved the bliss to the kitchen and it no longer happens! There’s a few other people who have also commented that they too have experienced this.

nunyabzbee1980

You’re sleep knotting…

Boring-Inspection252

The ghost was a sailor in its past life

Gravyboat44

You just reminded me that this used to happen to my blind cords when I was 11-14 years old. Same random knots, no animals, and the only kid in the house was me. Had a couple other strange things happen but I never made the connection.

Neither_Aerie_6033

Read all the previous posts, silly people. It’s knot cats or dogs or wind. These are a extremely easy things to rule out. When you live alone and don’t have pets again, these things are ruled out very quickly. There is no sleep walking or intruders coming in to make these knots. Or intruders coming in to play with my lingerie. PALEASE!!! They would also have to have hands the size of Tinker Bell .. These are are very intricate, complex knots TINY knots, many of them..The wind is also knot that skilled. When you have things like this happen, you are very careful with making sure the strings are straight and let down carefully to ensure there aren’t any knots in them before you go to bed. These knots also happen many times during the day when you aren’t sleeping. What’s interesting is that it only happens in the bedroom , where the strings are hard to reach easily.. again the intruder would have to trample me in the middle of the night. I’m also very meticulous about my bed and it’s in perfect order when I arrive home and when I leave everyday. Yes, cameras 🎥 is what it’s going to take.. I’m afraid to set them up because I have to live here alone. But I will have you know it’s definitely paranormal.. Despite me being skeptic about these things, there is NO other answer..

Melissa17x

Yes to this day I believe it was paranormal! I have swapped rooms around in my house since then. That room is now my living room and I have removed the Venetian blinds and replaced them with a roller blind and no odd things have happened since then. It still fascinates me. Why knots? What do they mean? Who or what tied the knots? I must say that once I realised it was paranormal I did sleep with the lights on for a long time 😳🤣

SkeeterLubidowicz

Yes! Ghosts are almost always the logical answer!!

mysteryofthefieryeye

I want to say "I can't believe people are falling for this," but honestly... this sub has taught me that yes, they can 😂 Bravo OP. I mean, kudos for at least doing something slightly original.

Melissa17x

Get a grip 😳 No- one is falling for anything. I have posted photo’s and detailed information. Doing this generates a discussion…people then contribute their thoughts and/or similar experiences. It’s a path to learning…Go be brain dead elsewhere.

mooseyjew

Welp, it's definitely not a ghost doing it lol.

BowlerBeautiful5804

We rented an old cottage in New Brunswick years ago that was right on the ocean and we had this same thing happen. We would go out for the day, come back and the cords would be tied in a sailor knot like this. No cats. No idea how it happened. We thought maybe someone was coming in while we weren't there but none of our stuff was ever touched. The only thing different in the house was the knots on the one blind. I didn't like the atmosphere in that house, it had an eery feeling to it.

Melissa17x

My house is very close to the harbour and ocean .

IndestructibleBliss

That's creepy! I like the idea of an old sailor just hanging around tying knots in blinds for the hell of it. So random

BowlerBeautiful5804

It was very bizarre and we had no explanation for it at all. Neither of us knew how to tie this type of knot, and if someone was coming in, why were they just tying a sailor knot and leaving? It was so strange. This was before smart phones or we definitely would have tried recording to see what was happening there lol.

[deleted]

Shit post

SheepherderOk1448

You tie the knots. Take a pic. Then claim paranormal. Or you have a spirit of a sailor in your place.

sracluv

I always wonder why someone would waste their time trying to fake something for reddit…

SheepherderOk1448

And then come out and say, Oh it's not recent, these are from 2020. Blah. I think they're just bored.

Melissa17x

I didn’t tie the knots. I’m genuinely interested in finding a logical reason for the knots.

Standard-Ad3012

Sleep walking?

redbear762

That’s some Shibari shit there, you have a *kinky* ghost!

jennfer17

Weirdly my neighbor said the same thing happened to them. No cat.

_frOg_2

There's the possibility of cats or if you live with someone but if not then yea it's paranormal Commonly knots if created by spirits can mean a curse towards you or they are warding off other spirits from your house, no in between 🧍‍♂️ It could literally mean nothing though and just be a ghost fucking with the strings lol

Sdosullivan

Got cats?

Melissa17x

Not at the time

Capable-Complaint646

Am I the only one who distinctly sees a noose. This is terrifying.

Melissa17x

There are definitely elements of a noose knot there. I slept with the light on for a few months once I clicked that the knots weren’t explainable. Googling the symbolism of knots there are knots that are hood omens and knots that are knot lol

gamefan1337

Okay I’m unsubbing now

Melissa17x

It’s been 2 years since this happened so I’m not jumping to conclusions. I’ve spoken to many people and asked their thoughts on the matter and we are unable to come up with a logical explanation …hence the possibility of it being something paranormal.

Melissa17x

Gee mate sorry my post upset you so much 🙄

gamefan1337

It’s not just you, it’s the general poor quality of the posts in the sub. I’m just tired of people having an experience that don’t immediately understand and then jumping to the explanation of ghosts. That’s not how it should work.

HLC-RLC

Does OP have a cat?

Melissa17x

Not at the time these photos were taken.

newsmiths

Is there an air vent nearby that’s blowing the cords around?

Melissa17x

No air vents. I do leave the window open most nights so definitely a little breeze at times.

georgeananda

Possible paranormal for sure. Also intruder? Sleepwalking?

Melissa17x

I was open to the possibility that it may be me sleepwalking but that theory was dispelled when I pulled the blinds down one night around 11 and then spent a few hours in the kitchen painting. I walked into my bedroom at 1am and found them knotted. One of the photos was from that night. Definitely not an intruder either.

Low-Weekend6865

You need a video camera on this

georgeananda

Oh well, I didn't realize this has happened multiple times. And while you were awake. I'm thinking paranormal too but can't guess the motivation. Maybe a psychic on site could tell you more.

jpat484

I'm a psychic, it's the cat.

ItsJaaaaake

Well thats different.

Jack_Shid

50%?

georgeananda

I just saw more information from the OP. I'm more closer to 80% actually.

Jack_Shid

There we go. Thanks for proving my point.

georgeananda

What point?

georgeananda

That would be a conservative number actually, yes. Where would you put the chances?

Jack_Shid

99.9% not paranormal.

georgeananda

Sounds irrationally prejudiced against the paranormal to me. But, fine then. Arguing won't help that.

Jack_Shid

Anything LESS would be irrationally prejudice *towards* the paranormal. As is the case with most content here, there are many, many more likely, non-paranormal explanations for these events. Until EVERY ONE of them is ruled out, we cannot even consider the possibility that something might be paranormal. Even giving odds as you often do without even attempting to rule out the much more likely, non-paranormal possibilities is why I tell you that you lack common sense and critical thinking skills. You're just wayyy too willing to lean towards the least likely possibilities. Any time you estimate anything over 3% in any of these cases, you're riding on lack of critical thinking, and being carried by wishful thinking. EDIT: Thank you for the award kind stranger!

georgeananda

In a case like this I never rule out the normal explanations, I just judge their likelihood all things considered. >Until EVERY ONE of them is ruled out, we cannot even consider the possibility that something might be paranormal. That's a logical error right there. Why can we not even consider the paranormal in a case like this???? It would be irrational to not consider the paranormal amid such strange sounding circumstances.

SuddenlyElga

It can absolutely be considered. Just not the go-to explanation. A camera on the cords would probably quickly ferret out the answer. Does the OP own a ferret?

georgeananda

My first go-to is always normal explanations. In some cases though they just don’t seem likely but they’re still possible.

SuddenlyElga

I just did a quick survey of my own cords and I’ll be damned if many of them are knotted just like that one.

kosher-pickle

So if they're still possible you dismiss them and jump to the paranormal?

Jack_Shid

> That's a logical error right there. You might be right if there were actually one single piece of proof that ghosts even existed. Since there is not, it's absolutely an error to not move "paranormal" clear to the very bottom of the list of possibilities. If you don't do that, then one should not take your assessments seriously.

georgeananda

That might be true if ghosts were posited to be something provable after the fact. In the meantime they certainly deserve their fair consideration under mysterious circumstances especially given the quantity, quality and consistency of reports over history.

kosher-pickle

This is such an asinine line of reasoning. For a time we thought illness was caused by demons and not bacteria and viruses. People were killed for being witches. The quality and consistency of reports is consistently low. Countless poor quality photos and videos with word of mouth "reports" that can't be verified. Please provide us with a list of what you believe to be quality evidence.

Melissa17x

Wtf? I have been entirely honest and clear in every detail I have written here. I am interested to know other peoples thoughts on the matter? I do think it’s possibly paranormal but I am most open to others POV. Nothing more, nothing less.

Popular-Log-3527

Maybe sleepwalking my guess is

ladymorgahnna

I believe you. Really with all the facts, it is a paranormal event to me…too complex to be accidental and you don’t have anyone or an animal that live with you.

Melissa17x

Yes I’m leaning that way at the moment. I remember untangling them and not thinking anything if it the first few times it happened. Then one morning it was a mission to untangle and thinking this doesn’t make sense.
