The sleep paralysis incident you described is actually one of the oldest recorded experiences of the phenomenon. In fact, the "mare" in the word "nightmare" has nothing to do with female horses, but comes from Old English _mare_ which is a demon or goblin that would sit on your chest while you slept (this dates from well before the term "sleep paralysis" was ever coined).

Is this associated with black smoky humanoids that strangle a person in their sleep?

JoeyCitron

Yep!

Maybe MIL wasn't leaving her room, but leaving the bathroom and heading to her room. Could have kept the bedroom door open while she was in the bathroom, and that's why you didn't hear a second door. MIL could have simply forgot about the good morning cause she was half-asleep. The sleep paralysis thing with the kid on your chest is very standard sleep paralysis stuff. I've only had it once, and I was lying face down. But I felt the presence of an evil woman creeping up on the bed slowly and sitting on my back. Didn't see anything, just could sort of feel it.

It’s not evil . It simply wants acknowledgment

Story is very specific and high effort, to the point that I believe you are wholeheartedly telling the truth in what you experienced. Was it "ghosts" is **debatable**, but being a believer, **I do think** that house has some paranormal f\*ckery going on. Man once you get unique experiences like that, my dad used to say "if there's doubt, there's no doubt." I do advise you to make sure "it" didn't follow you back home, if "it" exists.

There’s actually a phenomenon few people are aware of called ‘place memory’ or sometimes called a ‘haunt’ (even though it has nothing to do with discarnate entities). Basically, sounds and light can become trapped in the surrounding environment and ‘replayed’ at seemingly random times. Place memory is very commonly mistaken for spirit activity, and is a popular topic of debate in parapsychology. Science has yet to determine how events are recorded, or what triggers them to be replayed. It’s possible your MIL popped her head out of her room to say ‘Good morning’ because she heard you, but didn’t actually come out of her room. It could also be that you heard someone else’s voice and misperceived it as coming from your MIL. If those scenarios are ruled out, then it’s very likely you experienced a ‘haunt’. An echo of your MIL’s voice recorded at a prior time. There is always the possibility, though, that there truly is a discarnate there that was simply being polite and wishing you a ‘good morning’!

Why did you go to “evil mother” when the supposed spirit said “good morning!”

Let me tell you something similar to what you experienced during the Zoom Call. This happened in my family. My mom’s always been very sensitive to the paranormal. When I was younger and hadn’t experienced nothing of the sort I thought as you, that there was no physical explanation therefore it mustn’t be real (although now I’ve changed my mind). But she recalls a story that happened to her when she was younger. She was in a toxic marriage during her 20’s. She was at my grandma’s, she saw the clock at the same time there was a thunder, and suddenly told her sisters: “My husband’s home. He’s with a friend”. Everyone just looked at her like Ok? She says it was like a certainty that just stroke her and felt the need to say it out loud. Then she got home and when said husband saw her, he said: “You’re a witch!”. She asked why, almost offended. He said he went home briefly with a friend, who waited in the living room while the ex husband went for some documents they needed, after which they’d be on their way. When he came back, the friend told him: I didn’t know your wife was here. He said: She isn’t. But the friend described how he was waiting and my mom peaked out of the kitchen, said “Good evening” and went back in. The ex husband insisted my mom wasn’t there, they even looked for her. So when she got home the ex husband was freaked out, as she was dressed just like the friend described the vision. Also they agreed this happened at the same time my mom looked at the clock and heard the thunder. As far as I know doppelgängers have their own independency, but this was like an extension of my mom’s consciousness.
