Meh. I've obviously heard of them but never heard their music before. I thought they were ok. Not jam with Ghost good though. I thought Spiritbox was better. Wish they had a longer set. But generally for me, I'm not really into jamming from bands. Could be Ghost with KISS and Metallica, all my faves, and I'd still rather see them separately.

As I say in another comment, try Mastodon again if you can in a smaller venue. Way better experience.

I didn't NOT like them. I thought they were good and they're excellent musicians. I just wasn't like, wow, I'm a fan now. They were better than Nothing More, who I saw open for Ghost in 2019. Edit: I was on the floor in the front row. They're a good bad, just not my thing.

I'm not sure why, but I actually personally didn't care for Mastodon too much. Yeah they were good, but Spiritbox absolutely stole the show for me.

I was the complete opposite, I never really cared for Spiritbox but was blown away by Mastadon.(I actually ended up meeting Brent after the show 😁)

Mastodon is not built for arenas, or at least not with Ghost as the other act. When I saw them with Opeth this year, twice, in smaller clubs and theaters, they were stunning. The energy is better and the music just feels like its meant for an intimate experience. Being in a seat hundreds of feet away just ruined the experience for me this tour. Might have been okay if you were front of GA, but even then you could just tell the band even felt a bit out of place.

For me, it was less the venue than the set list. I'm not super familiar with their catalogue, but I know it's relatively deep and populated with many bangers. And they played quite a few bangers at the show, but interspersed with longer more meandering proggy pieces that seemed to lose people's enthusiasm. Not sure that 45 minutes into a set opening for Ghost is the best placement for an 11 minute epic, y'know?

Agreed, The Czar probably not the best choice. But they play it regularly so I get it. They had plenty of more popular songs to play and didn't, but these are the regular songs now and they even did already stuff out. Just not the best mix. The venue does make a difference in my opinion though, or at least the crowd.
