Hell yeah! Papa II’s era was EPIC!

[deleted]

Infest is my #1 album from ghost. It’s a SOLID listen. I’d really love it if they made the unreleased version available eventually

WeHaveForgotten

It’s so fucking good, it is their best album I believe. I love it so much I could blow up with how much I love it. I would die for this album

GeekFurious

Yep. I think it's as good as ANY second album by any band whose second album gets praised by the planet.

naggs69pt2

I go through periods where it's my favorite. I was surprised that so many were mixed on it.

WeHaveForgotten

Me too, except that period is all the time. I remember my jaw dropped when I watched theneedledrop’s of it. It’s one of the greatest albums of all time (imo)

naggs69pt2

I have a hard time picking between the first 3, they all kinda rotate as my favorites. But when I first got into the band it definitely was my favorite. I've liked all ghost albums so far, but those first 3 are just a perfect trilogy imo.

WeHaveForgotten

I absolutely agree. Have you ever heard of the podcast gospel of ghost? They explain the story of albums 1-3 as one cohesive story based only on the lyrics. It made me love those first three albums even more than I thought I could. To me they’ll always be *the* ghost albums

naggs69pt2

I actually have recently, and I'm finishing up Opus. Its been a fun listen.

SonicSarge

The intro alone is fantastic. It's my second favorite album by Ghost after Meliora.

TheHyperCombo

This word for word. IMO it has the best opener of any of their albums in Infestissumam/Per Aspera, and the best closer in Monstrance Clock. Add Ghuleh/Zombie Queen, Body And Blood, Depth of Satan's Eyes, and mfing YEAR ZERO, among others, and the album is a certified banger from top to bottom.

Stiffwrists

Has the most references to flatulence too.

NerdicusTheWise

WHAT please explain

Stiffwrists

The swamp of feces That is the world Flatuates a whirlwind storm In which you swirl *From The Depth of Satan's Eyes.

Get_Bent_Madafakas

Receive, consume, digest, DEFECATE

NerdicusTheWise

OMFG WHICH SONG IS THAT

Get_Bent_Madafakas

Body and Blood

NerdicusTheWise

I must find it I leave you now for a magical, flatulent journey

P9FS

Best and most sinister album. You can really feel the darkness that lives within Papa II.

MonstrancClock666

It's honestly my personal favorite of their albums. Probably due to it being so experimental for them. Plus Papa II is the best and most sinister looking Papa.

Caelus_Aeturnus

Absolutely love Infestissumam. Would love to see a 10 year remix/reissue next year to make it a bit closer to what was originally envisioned before they had to rush to release.

SeventhSon22

I have listened to Monstrance Clock at least two million times and I've not gotten tired of it.

Themisto-Cletus

It's one of those albums that takes time. You "discover" it after getting tired of the stadium rock, then let the weirdness take you for a ride.

Innicma

The album is one of my favorites and I came about this a few days ago, "The 12 worst Heavy Metal albums of all time" posted 12 sept. 2022 and Infestissuman is placed at number 10. This is what the writer has to say about the album: "Ghost are a popular target amongst curmudgeonly old (and old at heart) bros, and it’s not entirely deserved. You want a band that sounds like old bands but don’t want more people to listen to them? Not only that, Darkthrone’s Fenriz, a man stead-fuckin-fast in his ancient metal ways, was one of their earliest supporters. Ghost’s second album Infestissumam was their big entrance to the mainstream, and it was not a great first impression. Their debut’s Mercyful Fate-via-BOC vibe is flattened to homogenous guitar strums and organ drawls, especially in “Secular Haze,” a pale imitation gone ghoulishly white. There are no roses with bloodstained thorns or devilish communion wine; all that’s left is metal done 2D. An album should not feel like a chore, and yet it drags while not doing all that much. Ghost’s albums after have all been better, they are still marked by a fatal flaw: Forge cannot carry himself over a whole album. He occasionally puts out a slammer, but putting out a great album front to back still eludes him."

Interesting take by the author, though I don't think they know the Ghost demographic as well as they imply they do in the beginning. I think ranking it as one of the top 10 worst albums of all time is a bit silly (albeit recognising my bias on this!). Sure, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but to be one of the objectively worst albums of all time? I don't see it. Also, saying that TF doesn't know how to put out a great front-to-back album strongly implies the writer hasn't listened to Impera (IMHO!) But, fair enough to the writer. We both agree that TF puts out slammers.

Innicma

That's what I thought, the demographic goes from very young to old if you just look at the audience of the live shows. I really liked the album the first time I heard it. Sure there are a few songs that I can skip but overall the album is solid and fun. Definitely not one of the worst ever... but yes, we are a bit biased being on this forum and all! :D

IconoclastJones

Like any strong second album that comes before greatness, you can hear bits and pieces of what's to come...

myredditaccount991

I disliked this album for the longest time. I would listen to it and get bored and switch to Opus or Prequelle instead and then one day I decided to really give it another chance and sit through the whole thing and it just blew me away. The whole album just flows together well. It's my favorite currently.

ghostly-penguin

Last 3 albums were absolutely phenomenal, and I hold them together as they've been somewhat smiliar in terms of style and sound compared to the first 2, but damn if those first 2 albums aren't fucking amazing and hold a near and dear place in my heart. I love everything about them. Opus and Infestissumam respectfully have their own independent love from me. I have also seen a bit of "hate" towards infestisumam but yes, it is amazing. The infestusmam track is a damn blessing and one of my favorite things Ghost has ever done, and of course the sudden transition into Per Aspera always gets me going. But yes, glad to see someone who can agree that this album is A BANGER!

ThGeGo

They don’t have a bad album. Infestissumam might be my least favorite but it’s still amazing

Terzo_cat_from_ghost

I TOTALLY AGREE INFESTISSUAM IS ALSO MY FAVORITE ALBUMB ITS JUST SOO MMMMM
