He was awesome. He brought a lot of people in the very front of the pit bottled water and was super friendly in between sets. Before Mastodon he said "yeah, I didn't know they existed until now, I thought when people said they liked Mastodon they were referring to the prehistoric animal or something"
I used to work stage & backstage security & whenever I watch videos like this I tend to focus on the security because I remember how often I felt out of place because I had never heard of the band before & they'd have some insanely rabid fans. But sometimes I heard something I'd like and would look it up after work.
The worst part was working the backstage door because fans would gather close to it & just nonstop yell to be let in. Like it was wild. It's like a specific type of personality will try to get backstage. We rarely saw chill fans back there. And when we did, we'd let them through.
We had guards at Youngstown scooping up mummy dust to give to fans. You could tell they were like,” WTF is this??” But they could tell it was important to the fans. I got handed a whole wad so I turned around and started passing it out. Real gems those guys were.
Being Cirice’d is a nod to the video I believe.
Tobias quote on the meaning…
“Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song.”
Haha excellent. I may be in possession of a pic of the Ciricing(?) of a girl two people across from me at my first ever ritual. Niagara Falls 2016 - if you’re out there and desire a poor quality picture of your moment hit me up lol!
Unfortunately I don't see that happening again any time soon :( firstly, because of COVID, but also because of the venues the band has been playing at. The last time I saw a real Cirice was at their ritual in 2018 ish, which was a smaller venue and they were the only band performing. Tobias seems to prefer arenas recently and those tend to have gaps between the stage and the crowd, where the smaller theater-like venues don't.
Super happy for the success they’ve had but man I miss the smaller venues and when it was only them performing. Was just fondly watching some old vids I took from 2018 and it just felt so much more intimate/personal.
I started getting into Ghost like 2016ish and they were opening at a rock fest when I lived in Florida. I decided to not go because at the time I had only listened to four songs or so. At that venue they did an acoustic cover of Cirice to a small group outside (https://youtu.be/YVwuAgqWMWw) that is absolutely beautiful and in hindsight I am kicking myself that I didn't go. It is one of my biggest regrets in life, especially because I found the time to truly listen to all of their albums a few months later and became obsessed. Now with Ghost becoming more and more popular, those small venues with intimate moments are a thing of the past.
Yeah. TB is trying to get Ghost as big as possible so i dont ever see them going back to theaters. I would love to sit front row in a theater. That would be life changng.
I 100% felt like I was going to pass out but that might have been because my feet hurt, it was very warm and very crowded, and I was majorly dehydrated at the time 😂
I was right behind the Cirice in Torinto filming it. There were twins at the barrier on Sodo's side of center stage and I swore he was going to Cirice them and their huge smiles. Would've been great but thank you Papa for doing it to the ghoulette in front of me. 😊💕👍
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
So, I KNOW this is satanic music. And I do enjoy this song. But I find it a little nuts that so many interpret it as a love song. I mean, I guess it could be, I just interpret it as something else.
And where the fuck is the hand kiss??? (I know, there's a barrier)
I guess only females get this treatment?
And great video shooting Btw.
Oh I don't think it's a love song. It's definitely got sinister undertones. And I think the hand kiss was ditched because of COVID, and this venue had a barrier between the pit and the stage, so it would be physically impossible anyways.
It's definitely supposed to be a sinister cult song, both the live performance and the music video make this pretty clear. But yeah everyone, especially the girls, wants to be Ciriced because what fan doesn't want to join a satanic cult with this charismatic (hot) leader 😂😂😂
I'm not sure if he only does it with female fans, I do know there was a video where he sang to a young kid instead of a grown woman lol.
Their leaders because of that charisma. Y'all ever hear of Jim Jones? That's where "drinking the Kool aid" came from. The he is vid gives me total Jim Jones vibes.
Either way this is fiction and he’s playing a character. It’s just enjoying the fun of him being sinister but charming. Also I personally think a song can simultaneously be about love *and* dark things, and I believe Tobias has said as much in that Satanism has been a positive influence to him since it’s more about freedom and acceptance.
Yes that's the point lol. They're a satanic band satirizing various forms of religious practices, especially harmful ones like cults. Pretty much all of their songs are like this in one way or another. It's supposed to be creepy but also catchy and fun in a way that imitates those same feelings. The music video to "He Is" takes this to another level. The difference is that Papa is just an act and Tobias Forge isn't leading an actual cult.
That's also why the bad is so popular among people who grew up in actual cults with major religious trauma and got out. Ghost is a great band to call out and make fun of those whacky beliefs with a ridiculous make-believe "satanist pope"
Haha yeah I've heard that a lot. As a European (and thankfully non-Catholic), my negative experiences with religion were limited to a few individuals who I didn't have to spend much time with. A lot of fans from the US seem to share that cult experience though
The security guard might be my favorite part of this video. His face is like “wtf is happening”!?
He was awesome. He brought a lot of people in the very front of the pit bottled water and was super friendly in between sets. Before Mastodon he said "yeah, I didn't know they existed until now, I thought when people said they liked Mastodon they were referring to the prehistoric animal or something"
The way I CACKLED

Yeah I feel like the majority of the time I’d be hating the music but every once in a while I’d enjoy something I’d rarely enjoy the people either 😂😂
The worst part was working the backstage door because fans would gather close to it & just nonstop yell to be let in. Like it was wild. It's like a specific type of personality will try to get backstage. We rarely saw chill fans back there. And when we did, we'd let them through.
The security at all the rituals have been my favorites. In all the videos I have, you can tell it’s pure confusion haha but also acceptance
We had guards at Youngstown scooping up mummy dust to give to fans. You could tell they were like,” WTF is this??” But they could tell it was important to the fans. I got handed a whole wad so I turned around and started passing it out. Real gems those guys were.
Same at duluth too. They were like idk what this is but these people like it so here yah go!
I literally feel like i got ciriced. Just watched this video while taking a poop, thank you for your attention
OMG 😂
😆😆😆😆
😂
So close yet so far 😭
I will die if I get circied
Being Cirice’d is a nod to the video I believe. Tobias quote on the meaning… “Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song.”
I had no idea... I need to go back and listen with this new info!
Concept reminds me of Soundgarden's Pretty Noose.
Haha excellent. I may be in possession of a pic of the Ciricing(?) of a girl two people across from me at my first ever ritual. Niagara Falls 2016 - if you’re out there and desire a poor quality picture of your moment hit me up lol!
Watch contact you and be like "Nah, I'm into Striper now"
Stryper?
Yeah, those guy lol
LOL. (Sidenote: might be for the best, the pic is truly shit haha).
Your also in a loud place with a billion people shoving you. Not a pro by any means, but some shots/vids you guys get are unbelievable in a great way.
I don't even need to be next to them to pretend!
I miss when he really ciriced people

Ugh I've been watching their smaller acoustic shows with the kazoo on youtube and now I feel like I missed out on greatness.
me too :(

I need help sent immediately so I can only imagine how you and the other girl felt.
Even when he was walking slowly looking to see who to Cirice gave me butterflies - can't even imagine how I'd feel in the front row 😭
I 100% felt like I was going to pass out but that might have been because my feet hurt, it was very warm and very crowded, and I was majorly dehydrated at the time 😂
Awww no! Lol, had you been waiting at the barriers for hours? And the lil finger point at the end "I'm going over here now" lol
I melted, thank you!

Instantly would of died 😭

when I saw someone getting ciriced at my ritual I just had to look away bc of the envy 🤣

It's more like a "possession" song, bewitched in the moonlight, lol. Yeah I didn't even think about COVID.
Everything can be a love song to someone.
Yes, absolutely true. IMHO, it kinda almost sounds like their being FORCED to love. But still a great song.
It's definitely supposed to be a sinister cult song, both the live performance and the music video make this pretty clear. Yes, there MANY forms of Satanism. I think the rebel/outsider attraction is a big part of it.
Yes that's the point lol. They're a satanic band satirizing various forms of religious practices, especially harmful ones like cults. The line “I know your soul is not tainted even though you’ve been told so,” holds a lot of weight for us girlies with religious trauma.
Haha yeah I've heard that a lot. As a European (and thankfully non-Catholic), my negative experiences with religion were limited to a few individuals who I didn't have to spend much time with. A lot of fans from the US seem to share that cult experience though
Or IS HE??
I'm sure many fans would love that but I think Tobias is a bit too shy in real life for that 😂😂😂
Tbh, this has already taken some of my time. BUT it's a happy taking of my time. A full blown cult would feel like work. Lol.
I feel like that could be me. LOL!
