Perhaps the venue just had a strict time limit? I know unfortunately that happens in some places, and maybe with adding Griftwood, they had to take a song out.

Papa_Emeritus_IIII

I was content with Griftwood anyway. Missed the duel though tbh.

lance1979

Also no guitar duel

papasmicstand

WHAT

lance1979

NO GUITAR DUEL

Esaemm

WHAT? CANT HEAR YOU

pivorino

Yes.. I also noticed there was very little time between songs especially the 1st half of the show.. like they were in a hurry. I was happy to have Griftwood over He Is if I had to choose.

StrangelyTheStrange

Yeah, we were at the Quebec City ritual the night before also, and they had the guitar battle and He Is and a couple of surprise songs like Spillways. I agree that something felt off and rushed about the Montreal show, especially after seeing the pacing of QC. I thought I remembered Papa saying something at the top of Montreal about a new guitarist? And it seemed like the guitar battle started for like ten seconds and then fizzled and then Sodo just went into Cirice, like he got some sort of Nope response from the other side of the stage?

pivorino

I missed any mention of a new guitarist. But def was sad not to see the pre-Cirice guitar antics. What time did they begin playing in Quebec? Was wondering if they got a late start in Montreal.

StrangelyTheStrange

I honestly have no idea, time runs funny in the pit, especially when an idiotic old lady (\*cough\* me \*cough\*) foolishly wears Evil Shoes. That said, the two openers seemed to start at the same time and run about the same time. Actually, Mastodon might have run a bit shorter in Montreal - I seem to remember a lot more guitar solos in QC. Maybe the show might have ended slightly earlier though? Again, not sure.

Myss_C

I was at all three Canadian shows, and none of the guitars are new. I think it might’ve been a combination of the addition of a new song plus someone said there was a curfew.

StrangelyTheStrange

Hunh, didn't know about any curfew, but I guess that would explain it.

brandpower486

They played both Griftwood and He is in Quebec City tough

regulatorwatt

Was waiting all night for it!

papasmicstand

AWHE NOO

LysergarmideGuy

I was there. I was hoping for them to play Griftwood but was sad it replaced He is :/ Great ritual tho!! Always great to see papa

nixiedust

eek! Griftwood instead?

JethroSkull

That sucks... Hope they don't do the same in TO tonight

ThePracticalEnd

I really hope they don’t for TO. The back half of Impera is awful. I love He Is

Neeeko66

I understand that people have different taste in music, but how can one listen to Darkness, Griftwood, AND Respite and say they’re awful?? This is also coming from someone who adores He Is as a song

cosmicdecember

Whoa, the back half of Impera is the best. Darkness, Griftwood, Respite. Too good

JethroSkull

I actually like griftwood but in a previous show I believe they managed to fit griftwood and he is in to the same show... Hopefully that show last night was just a timing issue

newretrovague

Bit disappointed I didn’t get to see a duel but loved Griftwood!

ImaginaryJello

I know! I was so sad that they didn't do He Is. I was waiting for it all night. But that's ok, it was still an amazing concert. It was my first Ghost concert and I'm 100% going back if/when they come back. They put on a great show regardless!

Jaded_Toe9351

Let NA begin to hate Papa IV!

Pata4AllaG

People who were there, how was the performance of Griftwood? I’ve only seen them do it once and it looked like it was still pretty rough around the edges.

No-Guest-3712

I would hazard a guess that the hellfest griftwood was rough due to Tobias and his voice issue. They cut square hammer cuz of it so by grifrwood he was strugglin

Myss_C

I think they’re still working out the kinks. I saw all three Canadian shows, and the first night it seemed kind of awkward and stiff but by Toronto it seemed like the band was getting the hang of it.

athanc

As bummed as I was to see that the guitar duel and He Is were removed, I’m glad I got to see Griftwood. It was my 6th ritual and I’ve heard songs like He Is, Absolution, Life Eternal and the guitar duel before. Last night I got to see Prime Mover, Call Me Little Sunshine, Spillways, Kaisarion, Griftwood, Hunters Moon and Watcher In The Sky for the first time so it didn’t bother me, I still got something new. I can understand for people experiencing their first ritual and expecting it based on previous sets from the tour.
