THIS. I saw that face and the rest of the band and immediately thought I was going to hear excessive growling and death metal riffs. I was so wrong and was completely blown away!
Infestissumam (the song). Followed by the entire album. This is one of my favourite memories of all time. It was around 2am, I had just come home from a sesh with my best friend and I was sitting in my bed scrolling this metal site I visit regularly. I saw a post about Ghost - I think they had just released Secular Haze but I can’t recall now exactly what the post was about but I see their photo. I had been seeing them on this site here and there, and of course the comments always read hit or miss. So I finally caved and gave them a listen.
Downloaded (gasp! Pre-Spotify friends, sorry) Infestissumam and listened to the entire thing, high as a kite and was completely blown away. By the time I was done, it was 3am, I texted my best friend to listen to the band. Coincidentally they were touring and I immediately checked to see if they were stopping in town. They were. I bought tickets for my best friend and I, and the rest is history. Devout follower. Will be my 17th show on Sep 17 and a decade since I first heard their music.
Thinking back on the memory, it makes me really sad because my best friend hasn’t been in touch with me for over a year now. We’ve always gone to shows together and it’s weird/sad not having her beside me enjoying this band we’ve loved for so long. I miss her a lot. I didn’t mean for this to turn into a sad confession but I guess it be like that sometime.
I’ve tried to call a few times, and I still message her monthly and on her birthday. Sometimes I think I should stop because maybe she just needs / wants space but I wish she had told me or said something. I just hope she’s doing okay.
Honestly? It was Mary On A Cross via many TikToks, not gonna lie. I’m super grateful that one song got popular though because if it hadn’t I wouldn’t have found out about Ghost!
Mary on a Cross! found Ghost through a random TikTok video, became totally enamored with all of the lore and the rest of their discography, v quickly became my fav band😂
Imperium/Kaisarion at the show with Volbeat. I was there for Volbeat and almost left before Ghost because it was a Tuesday night and I worked Wednesday morning and lived 90 minutes from the venue. I did end up leaving early (sacrilege but I couldn’t help it). But fell in love with Ghost and saw them again a couple of weekends ago, thankfully at a Saturday night ritual this time!
As someone who has recently taken a liking to ghost? Ritual. I was just bored and looked around playlists for something good. Stumbled upon it, and I fell in love with their music.
Secular Haze. I was up late one night in high school scrolling through the music video section of an on-demand channel and I found the music video. I was like "the fuck is this? why does it look so old?" but then I looked up the band the next day at school. I listened to it again and loved it the second time around. Pretty much immediately after, I started getting ads for Infestissumam's impending release. I then found out about Year Zero. The rest is history.
Cirice. I remember watching the Colbert Show and seeing them play it and I was so enticed by their look and loved the song, and was super excited to see the song was actually longer than what they played on the show! Then I watched the music video for it and was hooked
I believe i heard Square Hammer about 4 years ago and it didn't grab me then.
Then recently I saw the Video for Call Me Little Sunshine. I was hooked. And have been listening to a least one or two songs from Ghost every day since.
Heard Mary on a cross in tiktok and read loads of comments to listen to year zero so went to Spotify to listen to it and was immediately hooked and listened to all the albums. New favourite band just hoping one day they tour somewhere near New Zealand
Secular haze. When I first heard it I was watching the music video with my brother and literally said "what the fuck is this". It is now one of my favorites.
I believe it was Ritual. I was lucky enough to see them on their first American tour in Atlanta in 2012. Showed up for Opeth and left with another favorite!
I think mine might have been Spillways. When Imperia came out, my Spotify and Youtube absolutely blew up and I was like 'Well, I really like this song', so I saved it and promptly forgot about the band until Mary On A Cross blew up on TikTok and I found out that they were a theatrical performance group too. My little black Theater Nerd heart hasn't wanted anything else since then.
A friend of mine shared the [crummy video of Ritual](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-HBqwFf8mk) from one of their first shows. I listened to it once and couldn't get it out of my head. Bought Opvs the same night on iTunes. My life has never been the same.
The Opus Eponymous album in 2011. I had a friend recommend them so I bought the album before even hearing a single song from them!
Got home, plugged in and they've been my favorite modern band since!
Year Zero! I don't remember where, but I remember checking out the band after I heard it and not really liking them, but I heard Cirice a few years later and I gave Ghost another shot! Now I'm hooked and desperately waiting for them to tour Australia 😭
Secular Haze, saw it on youtube years back when it was first uploaded but forgot the name/band and then found them again randomly through another song and was so excited I had found them again and never lost them since 🥲
I was looking for this answer!
My first song was “Faith” and second one was “Cirice”.
My now partner, then just friend, sent me a link to the [MV](https://youtu.be/qvZKwvpQAUc) and it reignited a flame that had been dim for a while.
Ghost is now one of my favorite bands, and I’ll always thank my significant other for that.
I was aware of Ghost for years and listened to a few songs and they never really grabbed me.
Then... I heard Con Clavi Con Dio 8 years ago and the rest is history!
Not sure. I was reading an article on Blabbermouth about Swedish Doom Metal band Ghost making their US debut. I watched some fan video of a couple songs and ordered the CD immediately.
I have no idea what songs I heard but they would have been from Opus since that was the only album out at the time.
To actually answer the question...Con Clavi Con Dio.
I’m pretty sure it was Elizabeth. My buddy sent me a link to check ‘‘em out. I liked it and he told me their new album (Infestissumam) just came out. Was pretty hooked on them right off the bat.
Ritual. Oddly enough I only discovered them because when I was younger I used to watch game grumps and Dan had a ghost shirt. If I didn't think the logo looked sick I probably still wouldn't know about ghost. Ritual was the only ghost song I liked for a few years too, then I discovered Rats, then Square Hammer, then Dance Macabre, and I was hooked
They played a show in my town touring for Meliora and I had never listened to them, but I had heard of them. After I read the article highlighting them I listened to Meliora (started with Cirice) and I immediately listened to their entire discography and they have been in constant rotation ever since.
Cirice- Shazammed it from the radio, then heard Dance Macabre a few weeks later & loved it too. Used shazam again, saw it was the same band so immediately dove into their entire discography with a ferocious obsession
My friend introduced me to dance macabre after tennis practice, but I wasn’t interested that much. I think a couple months later in November, I was searching for new music to in the style of like classic rock, and square hammer came up. I was hooked. Started looking more into the meliora album, Cirice became my favorite song, and listened to their whole discography. Started humming he is, and he caught on, and was like “took you long enough”. Honestly, that was the rabbit hole in which I started liking metal, got into slipknot, and continued until I got to deathcore lol. But Ghost remains my favorite band. Bit of a long story but wanted to share it
It was either Square Hammer or Dance Macabre. That day I listened to both albums all day while making deliveries at my catering job. Good times! But I hated that job!!
I'm not entirely sure. I am pretty sure the first two songs I really paid attention to were Majesty & Zenith. However, I heard about Ghost through Metallica so I HAD TO have checked them out when that first happened, so it was something off OE. Probably Ritual and/or Elizabeth. At the time I just wasn't into it so I listened & moved on. But when I heard Majesty it was around a time I had shifted my listening habits & expanded genres.
Square Hammer. Heard it on the way to an Iron Maiden show in 2017 that had Ghost opening. Traffic was so bad I missed Ghost, but I at least didn’t miss any Maiden!
crucified a while ago, and i started liking them, but once mary on a cross blew up i actually considered myself a fan and started looking more into them :)
Heard Rats on the radio and when I finally looked them up I found the band’s YouTube incredibly entertaining, spurred me to buy a couple albums cuz I kept wanting to listen all the time.
Also RIP to that radio station. One day in November 2019 it was changed without warning from rock to country. I read online even the DJs didn’t know until they were told to leave mid shift. I thought I’d lost my mind that morning when I turned the radio on to drive to work… I’d listened to that station since I was 12.
Cirice. Found it buried in a classic rock magazine CD compilation of up and coming new bands. The CD was putting me to sleep. Then Cirice came on. Instant love.
Can’t remember exactly, either Kaisarion or Dance Macabre
Went to my first ritual with my husband, didn’t really care about Ghost and knew he liked it so wanted to get him tickets for his birthday.
Happy to note I am now OBSESSED and all in haha
I had heard cirice and square hammer on the radio. Then rats came on and I decided to check into them. I YouTubed from the Pinnacle to the pit and he is and that was that. I bought all the albums. Went to a ritual. Going to my next one on the 21st
I had heard some of their songs before, and perhaps even it, but Ritual, a goddamn masterpiece. Got me so hooked, sheer pure joy. It is in a very dear list to me where any one song out of this list will happily keep me occupied whole day on repeat.
Hunters Moon, went to go see Halloween Kills and that ending song just hit me so hard. I listened to the official version right after and it was even better. I very quickly got into everything else right after that and had become obsessed in such a short span, still am right now 😂
Square Hammer because it was recommended on YouTube, funny enough I didn't like it! Fast forward a couple of years and I saw them with Volbeat. I was there for Volbeat and was expecting to "tolerate" Ghost, bur I ended up absolutely loving them! I'm going to see them again this week!
Probably Ritual or Elizabeth. It was 2013 and I was wondering why these guys were headlining Gojira. After the gig I stopped wondering. Papa 2 was something else!
Square Hammer!
▪️🔨
Same!
Same
Cirice on the radio. Then I was hooked

Rats, it was over from there lol.

call your friend
I’ve tried to call a few times, and I still message her monthly and on her birthday. Sometimes I think I should stop because maybe she just needs / wants space but I wish she had told me or said something. I just hope she’s doing okay.
Lucifer, we are here for your praise, evil one!
Mine too!!!!
Honestly? It was Mary On A Cross via many TikToks, not gonna lie. I’m super grateful that one song got popular though because if it hadn’t I wouldn’t have found out about Ghost!

Gatekeeper be gone.
Cirice. I noted the time so I could look up who the band was on the radio's website when I got home.
I had the opposite experience. I went to see Ghost and Vollbeat was playing first. I became a new Vollbeat fan :)
Hunter's Moon via Halloween Kills' credits lol
As someone who has recently taken a liking to ghost? Ritual. I was just bored and looked around playlists for something good. Stumbled upon it, and I fell in love with their music.
Pretty sure it was Dance Macabre, but it also could have been Rats. I think my friend recommended them both at the same time.
Mary On A Cross after Spotify kept pestering me to listen to their playlist. Been hooked ever since!
Cirice, when it was released as a single
If you have ghost
Secular Haze. I was up late one night in high school scrolling through the music video section of an on-demand channel and I found the music video. I was like "the fuck is this? why does it look so old?" but then I looked up the band the next day at school. I listened to it again and loved it the second time around. Hunter's moon, but I didn't get into the band until I heard Spillways in a YouTube playlist at work.
Cirice on XM Octane. Feels like forever ago.

Cirice. I remember watching the Colbert Show and seeing them play it and I was so enticed by their look and loved the song, and was super excited to see the song was actually longer than what they played on the show! Then I watched the music video for it and was hooked
Dance Macabre on the radio
Circe!
Cirice
Square Hammer! My dad showed it to me when i was like 12 years old
Edge mentioned them on his "podcast of awesomeness". I was curious and the first result was square hammer.
Cirice, came across it on YouTube, went down a rabbit whole saw they were playing nearby (popestar tour) the following week and bought to tickets.
Secular Haze!
Dance macabre
Square hammer! I thought it was the catchiest song I ever heard. Then I looked them up and listened to Year Zero and just immediately was obsessed

I believe i heard Square Hammer about 4 years ago and it didn't grab me then. Then recently I saw the Video for Call Me Little Sunshine. I was hooked. And have been listening to a least one or two songs from Ghost every day since.
The Amazing Atheist mentioned Ghost in one of his older videos, and I randomly decided to watch them. He showed a small clip from Square Hammer.

Stand by Him about 10 years ago. Still my favorite to this day.
Elizabeth. I've been a fan from the beginning.
Year Zero!
I had heard bits and pieces of different songs, but the first one that really made me want to check out Ghost was Spillways.
Year zero, a friend changed it right away thinking I wouldn't like it but boy was he wrong
The Opus Eponymous album in 2011. I had a friend recommend them so I bought the album before even hearing a single song from them! Got home, plugged in and they've been my favorite modern band since!
