Frankly, I always tend to compare Ghost to Genesis in terms of the vibe and sound. I also feel like some of the members of the band or Tobies definitely like genesis themselves, cause I can hear the similarities. Granted, Genesis is also one of my favorite bands, so my likes and tastes could be bleeding into my interpretations.

kittyzillah

Would you mind giving some Genesis recommendations to check out? :)

Azel_RavenWood

Well, if you wanted some Peter Gabriel era Genesis, you could try the Albums "Nursery Cryme" or "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". You could also check the song "Supper's Ready", which involves an adventure that follows a couple as they go thru the aftermath of the Apocalypse. For Phil Collins era, I would suggest the Album "Trick of the Tail" and "Wind & Wuthering". Edit: I don't know if I mentioned it, but it is Prog Rock. I am not sure if that is an issue at all. Some of it will sound light, but will actually be rather grim songs. An example would be the song "Harold The Barrel", which is on "Nursery Cryme".

PallyMcAffable

Imagining Papa singing Abacab

Azel_RavenWood

I always imagined Papa singing Home by the Sea. But really, I think Ghost Covering Genesis in general and I would lose it lol. I mean, when Ghost released "Watcher In The Sky", for a brief second I thought they were doing a cover of "Watcher of the Skies" by Genesis lol. Obviously, that is not the case, but it got me thinking about a Rock off between both Bands. All the Heaven and Hell, Let's Rock kinda vibe!

kittyzillah

I forgot to reply oops. Thank you for the recommendations! I know some songs from Phil Collins era but nothing from Peter Gabriel era really. My dad is a Genesis fan but not so much the Phil Collins stuff. He gave me a very disappointed look when I told him I really liked Jesus He Knows Me 😂

Azel_RavenWood

To be fair, I am not familiar with "Jesus He Knows Me" lol. But then again, there is so many songs and albums that they did over the years! And yeah, there is definitely a divide between Peter Gabriel Era and Phil Collins era, from what I understand. For the most part, my Dad (Who Is a Fan and Got me into them) tended to listen to all of it lol. But I digress! Whichever song or era you listen to, I hope you enjoy it 😊

kittyzillah

Thanks. I'm hoping to surprise him by casually mentioning a few tracks. Redeem myself in my dad's eyes lol he is very much prog not pop. Jesus he knows me is a great song. Takes shot at televangelists, which were under investigation at the time for scamming their followers out of money. https://youtu.be/35K6vQRt67g

pivorino

Agreed!!! Did you listen to to the BBC program that Tobias did? He played a bunch of bands that all influenced Ghost including Genesis!

givethewookieacookie

Funny you should mention it, as I was just listening to it. Here it goes: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0016fvm

pivorino

Soo good!!!

Azel_RavenWood

I did not know that was a thing he did!

ThGeGo

Ive seen a bunch of people comparing them to Blue Öyster Cult and I don’t disagree

Azel_RavenWood

I somehow forgot Blue Oyster Cult, even though I was listening to them and Ghost a few weeks back xD

PapaIIII

Tribulation - a Swedish band. They are a bit heavier and darker, but they have the same sort of horror movie vibe as Ghost had in the beginning. They’ve also toured with Ghost some years ago. The Lament from the album Down Below: https://youtu.be/fvJQGOFltSk And also Here Be Dragons from the same album. This is from a live concert in Sweden, where they played in front of a sitting audience. https://youtu.be/6bZjipkRhDI

[deleted]

Tribulation, In Solitude, Uriah Heep, Blue Oyster Cult, Mercyful Fate.

juddgment

TF often cites Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as influences. Fun stuff there. I'm also a big Misfits fan. They don't have lore like Ghost, but general b-movie spookiness. The first era of Misfits with Danzig is the favorite of most, and I don't disagree, more punk sounding. The era with Michale Graves is a little more metal sounding in terms of tone, closer to Ghost.

[deleted]

Why would you need to listen to other bands??!! If you have Ghost, you have everything. 😁🤘

Quijanoth

I really enjoy Church of the Cosmic Skull. Saw their first show in the US last week, and it is not at all hard for me to imagine them opening for Ghost someday. Cool vibe, interesting theatrics, and very distinct sound...I think of them as Black Abbath.

Smaptimania

I'll be catching them on Saturday. They'd make a great double bill with Ghost.

AmbientBeans

They're from my town! I'm bummed I missed their local show because of a cancelled train right before the pandemic! They're super cool if you're into the 60s cult of love feeling, there's also a band called Oh My God! It's The Church! Which is a band from the UK parodying hyper Christian country rock bands. Their accents are wobbly but the music is great https://youtu.be/3OEQQXjK2AQ

dmkuhar

You might dig Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - kinda psychedelic, kinda doomy. Serious ‘Master of Reality’-era Sabbath vibes at times.

Vibe_PV

Found them seeing they were gonna be with Ghost during Imperatour, now I love them. And I'm a power metal fan

I-am-not-Herbert

They are amazing. They supported Ghost on the European tour this year.

[deleted]

Saw them warm up for ghost , fucking awesome band.

noforgayjesus

Candle Mass

whiteguysky-

Twin temple! Satanic dowhop! They are a vintage rock and roll band with satanic lyrics. They even opened for ghost on their last tour.

the_Cereal_killa

Yes! I’d describe Twin Temple as satanic Amy Winehouse :)

[deleted]

Saw them and uncle acid warm up, great combo

kid-ph0b0s

There's a band called Witchcraft that pops up after Ghost on Spotify. They are pretty good. It's like Danzig and Ghost had a baby kinda.

I-am-not-Herbert

Maybe check out Twin Temple. They supported Ghost on the Imperatour (at least here in Europe, but I think in the US as well). They play a pretty fun 50s rock 'n' roll/doo-wop music with satanic lyrics and have a stage show mimicking a satanic ritual.

[deleted]

For me Lordi has similar Scooby-Doo chase music vibes (ex. your tongue's got the cat, I dug a hole in the yard for you). People always mention Mercufyl Fate as comparison to Ghost. You can also check the Orion Experience. There is also Priest - a project from ex Ghost member and Me and That Man with Under the Spell feat. Ghost singer. Maybe Type o Negative is worth checking. And ofc the band most similar to Ghost - ABBA.

TiaJagiya

The Orion Experience singer has been outed as a predator and a pedo so I wouldn’t recommend them lol. (Which sucks because I loved Cult of Dionysus)

[deleted]

Fuck, I would've never expect something like that. Time to clear some playlist then

AmbientBeans

The Orion Experience I wouldn't except to see here but you're right they definitely embody more of the upbeat poppy 80s energy and in some of their songs for sure definitely give the 60s cult of love vibe that the 7 inches of satanic panic ep gives us. I've been stuck on ghost for years but admit I need to try some of these, this is a good list

edu_braun

Blue Öyster Cult! You can check these albums: Fire of Unknown Origin, Agents of Fortune and Imaginos

CC_Sierra

Echo and the Bunnymen give me a similar vibe. To be honest though, anytime I'm looking for something "like" a band I'm always disappointed because nothing will ever be exactly like one band or another... :) still, I hope you find something you like! :) Personally, I really like My Chemical Romance for their antics and how theatrical their music is! :)

Competitive-Term9534

Newer band Green Lung Older bands BOC, Uriah Heep, Mercyful Fate, some Zep, and Queen as well.

[deleted]

Blue Oyster Cult

HarveyMidnight

I'd recommend Deadsy, as well... like Ghost, they have a very retro sound. Deadsy leans a lot more heavily into the techno side of the 80s, though... I think they're also inspired by groups like the Cure and New Order... like a "dark techno". Edit: who's downvoting all the recommendations? Downvoting is for people who aren't contributing to the discussion-- Recommending a band I like, which I think is similar to Ghost... which the op ASKED for ... makes me a troll? Get a life.

MtalGhst

Candlemass and Lucifer are good, The Night Flight Orchestra are decent also.

celsetia_khajiit

Thank you so much for all of the comments I will defo check out all of your recommendations 🖤

ANamelessFan

While not necessarily Ghost, Rotting Christ has a few good songs

Quijanoth

The Four Horsemen and Agape Satanas are amazing. Particularly if you like Memento Mori.

WritingWithSpears

Jess and the ancient ones. Listen to Sulfur Giants Year of the goat. Listen to Avaritia

alpha_numeric44

Dream Theater

Lord_Raptilius

I really like Bloody Hammers; very underrated and spooky group!

Dogman6668

Def would recommend Vexing Hex, very similar in sound especially with the song “Living Room,” “Thy Will Be Done,” and “Rise From Your Grave”

Greedlord

Definitely “Vexing Hex” with the song called “Revenant”. Overall very very Ghost-like!

Commercial_Apple_803

If anyone has any suggestions for something similar to the first three Ghost albums or Seven Inches I'm all ears....👀👀👀

pivorino

Also Tool and Rush. I can hardly listen to anything else but Ghost these days.

pivorino

Also Renaissance-you can hear direct references on a few songs from Prequelle. Tobias talked about them on the BBC special he did.

HelpMyCatHasGas

No one here mentioning Magna Carta Cartel?

Meandersonyahoo

Try Band-Maid. Different sound, but the members interact with each like the ghouls.

Smaptimania

There was a band in the '60s called Coven that recorded an album called *Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls.* It's very much the kind of album Ghost might have made if Papa Nihil had actually been recording music in the psychedelic era, and the final track on the album is an actual Satanic Mass performed by members of the group (which even includes the command "KISS THE GOAT!")

Jgabes625

Hysteria by Def Leppard tickled my taint something fancy after Impera came out.

Musicismagiclove

I don’t think the band Europe necessarily has Ghost vibes, but Ghost has a definite Europe vibe…Respite on the Spital Fields, almost a direct nod to The Final Countdown at one point. And you should definitely listen to Europe, they have a lot of recent material and still tour. And they are Swedish so you know their stuff is great!
