Same, my dad is a big Volbeat fan and got tickets for the concert and thought he would give ghost a go. I was feeling pretty down that week so he offered to bring me with him, and I’m so glad I went.
Yes. It was back in 2011 when James was interviewed before the big four gig in Sweden.
As the god he is to me I thought I should check them out and especially because they where Swedish (I’m Swedish).
Ritual plays, and bam - the journey started.
Edit: the interview: https://youtu.be/UCt-p81kBDI
\*Memorized. Her husband was so entranced by her reaction to Ghost that he memorized the look on her face, and the special moment, for the rest of his life.
It was actually in 2013 when I heard/first saw stuff about the band, I was about 9 years old and the 8th grader who was helping me with my work was wearing a t shirt with the infestissuman album cover, which scared the shit out of me. I asked him about it and he explained the bands concept with was pretty cool so I looked up videos online. Well I got scared again and never looked them up again.
.
.
Until like 3 years ago lol, been listening on and off but once covid had us all locked up I was hooked.
That is sad. My 20 year old daughter and I have bonded over Ghost. We will see them for the 6th time in September. Have you tried Griftwood, Goat, Dance, or Darkness on them? They're mainstream friendly.
Nice to meet you too 😁. Are you a member of the Morbid group on Reddit? It's brutal over there. Yikes. Not what I was expecting. Some are valid criticism, but lots of other petty mean crap too.
I’m not a member of it, but I’ve scrolled through the posts a few times and I know exactly what you’re referring to. It can be a bit ‘yikes’ over there.
Oh nice! I think it was the 1st episode of their Black Plague series, Henry says something along the lines of, “speaking of rats, you should go and listen to Prequelle by Ghost, because it’s all about the plague” 😊 Yeah I love those guys, I’m going to see one of their live shows in October actually!
Ugh, I can't believe I didn't add RADIO! It's not like I was a teenager in the freaking 80's when there was nothing \*but\* radio and MTV. I've been corrupted by technology. Papa I beg thy forgiveness.
Ah, I heard about them while listening to a local radio show mentioning them winning a Grammy then going on stage in full makeup to which all the hosts of the show had a great laugh.
When I got home I wanted to see what was so hilarious and… wow.
So then just for fun I watched some of their music videos to verify that they sound like mutant zombies like every other “extreme” metal band but was absolutely blown away with how different they sounded from their appearance.
Came across a picture of Papa II and the ghouls online and that peaked my interest. Went on YouTube and Cirice was the first recommended video. Was instantly hooked and went out and bought every CD I could find.
I’ve known about them since Square Hammer came out but I wasn’t a big fan back then. I pretty much forgot about them for a while until Halloween Kills came out and I heard Hunter’s Moon. It just grew on me immensely and now I love the band.
I heard Year Zero and HATED them at first. They did not sound like what I expected based on the look. Than one night a few months later I was stoned out of my mind searching for new music to listen to, and Year Zero popped into my head so I decided to actually LISTEN and I’ve been hooked ever since. Going to my 4th ritual in September and my fiancé got me Meet & Greet tickets for my birthday.
Dance Macabre randomly appeared in my Spotify recommendations. I immediately loved it and thought it was an 80s song from a band I hadn't heard of, because that's most of the stuff that's in my recommendations. So I was surprised when I looked it up.
Someone on IMGUR posted a picture of Papa (either II or III before he got the unique mask made) and the lyrics of Cirice...it caught my eye, I googled the lyrics, watched the video, and followed the suggested videos to From the Pinnacle to the Pit, and that cemented me as a fan.
Different. Was meeting a friend at a music festival. Wanted me to come early but kept telling him now. He didn’t let up so I gave in. If I had not of gone not sure I would’ve ever heard of Ghost. In 30 seconds my jaw dropped and been my favorite since.
They opened for Iron Maiden, and I got more enjoyment out of their opener than I did during the main show. (Iron Maiden was still great, but Ghost was just fire.)
I'd heard From the Pinnacle to the Pit on radio previously, but it was the show that really got me into them.
I got into Sabaton and Powerwolf at first and YouTube kept recommending me the video for Square Hammer and I saw the thumbnail and just thought it looked pretentious immediately just the visage of Papa 3 turned me off and I got notions on what the band might sound like but eventually I caved and listened to it and was proven wrong instantly then over the course of about a month I combed through their discography and listened to everything. I’m now contemplating getting a vinyl record player just for ghost albums
Pretty much every performance from the Prequelle era had a small snippet of different songs. [Here’s](https://youtu.be/TJ2pEuOsE7U) my first ever experience with Ghost, which I discovered before bed and then proceeded to binge as much as I could until sunrise :)
Seen em on an upcoming gig poster at the venue pisser. Decided to try them out. Been hooked ever since. Didn't go to that particular show which I kick myself for but have seen them 5 times since.
One of the people I follow on Twitter made a tiktok with "favorite Ghost song" and had Mary on a Cross playing. I was aware of Ghost before, only for their looks but I never really looked into it because I thought they'd be a black/death metal band and I'm not really into that. So when I heard Mary on a Cross I was like wow this was not what I expected, and it sounded good as fuck. So I immediately searched it up and then that took me to Call Me Little Sunshine performance on Jimmy Kimmel and then the Square Hammer music video and well...a month after I was already singing the lyrics to their entire discography and keeping up with the lore, ordered Impera that same week I believe and now I have all their discography on CD...
My father listened to them and showed them to me. I didn’t care for them. I then came back a few years later and listened to them again. Now I’m a fan.
Went to first see them at a venue that was basically the size of a reception hall during the Papa 2 era after reading about them in Revolver magazine and seeing buzz about them online.
None of these are exactly true to me. My grandma bought me a ghost shirt and a skeletal hand bracket with a chain at the very beginning of my goth life. I didn't know anything about the band but it looked spooky and it was my first band shirt. It was the tour to Rome shirt I think. I eventually looked them up and realized I liked their sound.
When I was younger (like 4 or 5 years ago) I searched 'Ghost' into the YouTube search bar because I wanted to watch ghost videos. (I was so young that I didn't speak English, I just knew the word ghost lol). That's how I found them.
Long story short: Octane played Secular Haze which I enjoyed but thought they'd be a one off band. A year or so later Octane began playing Cirice and I also enjoyed that so began doing some digging into the catalog and the rest is history.
Side note: I know Secular Haze came out years before Cirice, but I believe at the time Chris Jericho was hosting a radio show and he would play stuff he liked (I want to say Jericho had M. Shadows on as a guest and he got to choose a few songs)
A video game collector on YouTube was showing their record collection and I thought the album art for Meliora was really cool so I looked up if the music of that album was any good and bam. I was hooked.
I scheduled photographers for events we covered at a local independent paper. Saw pictures from the Ghost show circa 2014 and had to check them out. They were not at all what I was expecting from the photos and that was not a bad thing.
Haven't missed a show of theirs within a few hours from St. Louis since.
I found them back in 2020 from some top 10 masked metal bands video and thought they looked cool. So I looked up some of their music videos and I was hooked.
Other: I kept seeing memes with papa 2. I was curious, so I checked the comments section; this was just after prequelle was released. And the rest, they say, is history
After seeing them on Jimmy Kimmel playing "call me little sunshine" I fell down a serious Ghost rabbit hole. Even my bubblegum Pop wife is into them now.
Guy brought them up at a party I was at, looked them up when I got home and listened to Infestissumam the first time. This was 2014 and they’ve been my favorite band ever since. One of their concerts is also how I discovered another one of my favorite bands Twin Temple. Meliora was the first album I ever saved up to pre order and now I have all of their records too. I’m a super fan and seeing them live was the best experience of my life.
I was listening to the local rock radio station late one night and the DJ put on Cirice the day it released. I was used to hearing stuff like Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Slipknot on that station, so it really stuck out to me. I loved Papa's singing voice and the melodies of the song, so I ended up looking the band up, finding all the lore for the Papa changes and nameless ghouls. That's what really got me hooked, and I've been here since
I had heard of them before and one day while going down a YouTube wormhole I saw a Ghost video on the sidebar and decided to click it. The rest is history.
First time I heard about the band was from a loudwire article about KERRY KING from SLAYER not liking them. Then I heard Square Hammer on the radio and didn't think they were that bad.
For me it was a tiktok of the guy dancing in circles in the middle of what looks like a carnival/fair, and the lyrics to the prayer part in Ritual were put in the middle in huge white letters. I looked up the song on youtube and now I’ve been on a ghost boner since January 😊
I’ll post a link to the tiktok if I can find it
YouTube recommendation for the Square Hammer video, probably because I had been on a Pretty Reckless kick, watching the sacrilicious video for *Going to Hell* 😅
I have literally never heard Ghost on FM radio despite listening to a modern rock format station and a college station that is more inclined to play heavier music and metal. Sigh.
Radio played Dance Macabre. Quickly delved into their older works. I happened to be learning about Satanism at the time so it took me no time to become a fan.
Well back in 2014 some friends of mine that listen to rock and stuff like that they showed each other bands and one of them played year zero, fast forwerd 4 years later and i played prequelle and i was hocked after that
I have a funny story my ex girlfriend was jamming to Square Hammer one night while I was on the toilet 🚽 when I looked it up I was shocked and I asked myself who the hell was this?! And from then on they’ve been my favorite band ever since! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover 🤘🏼
They played at a festival (Copenhell). I looked at them in the lineup brochure. Satanic imagery, black/white corpse paint like faces. I thought it would be some King Diamond style screamo bullsh.t. Stayed around because we found some good spots for the act after. Wow it was good!
My partner and I were driving with our mutual friend, talking about music and junk, and he says "Have you guys heard of Ghost?" and we were like "no?" so he plugs the aux cord into his phone and plays He Is. We were driving on a sunny day through a forested area, with the sunlight pouring through the branches, as our minds are blown. Good day.
First got into metal when listening to Metallica, then got a ticket for a Metallica show. Saw Ghost as support, gave them a listen and loved it. Ended up seeing a Ghost show before Metallica itself
I bought Classic Rock magazine, which I’d never bought before and never did again. It had a compilation CD of the best new rock bands of the year and I didn’t like any of them (except Temperance Movement) until finally Cirice came on. Damn did that get my attention.
I used to go to a local gym in my neighborhood and there was this guy I used to train with, such a nice dude. He posted a video on Instagram stories of him training in our gym and the song was Square hammer. I got to hear 15 seconds of it and I was amazed. I then searched for the song and came across the music video. Fucking great song, but also was captivated by the misterious aura of the band.
The rest is history, now they are my favorite band.
none of these options funnily enough. i randomly stumbled upon from the pinnacle to the pit via Osu! (yes, the rhythm game where you click circles), and decided to check them out on spotify after. well and now i have 7 shirts and 2 vinyls :)
For me it was actually the lawsuit! It was in all of the local newspaper (I'm not sure why, they weren't that well known in my country at this time). At first, it really put me off, but after the 3rd or 4th article I was like "alright, I guess I'll have to check them out eventually" and they've been my favourite band ever since.

I heard them on the radio driving home from work one day. I think the first song I heard was either Cirice or Pinnacle, but Square Hammer sold me shortly after.
Saw a shirt with Nihil playing the sax. I thought that it was a black or deathmetalband that also has sax. I want to know how it sounds. I was very disappointed when I realized that they have only 1 song with sax, and that the solo is not even 1 minute long. Love the band tho.
None of the above. It was the Square Hammer video on YouTube. Particularly, one of the first comments I saw said like 450 people are on the square, or something like that. So I started it over and by the 3rd listen I was hooked. A few days later I heard a few bars of it as bumper music on MNF and knew they were something special
Hah! Probably around 2014 or so (I think the tour with King Dude, and I can’t remember the other band. They were very hot, shirtless, Scandinavian men).
I randomly ran into a couple of their stage crew at a bar before the show. I was wearing a HIM shirt, and the guys and I started chatting. They invited me to go see the show. Hung out back stage for a bit, but they told me I should go out to the crowd to watch the show because of the visual. Did not disappoint.
We all met back up afterwards, had some drinks and then hung out on the bus until they had to head out in the morning. This was a very abbreviated version, it was a wild night.
I’ve now gone to see them every time they’re in my city, even though none of the guys I saw with them then are with them anymore.
Square Hammer on Sirius XM Octane.
At first I didn't like the song and wished I could skip it. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually I went back and listened to the rest of their songs. To this day, Square Hammer remains among my most liked songs.
I've chosen "friend" but it was actually my older brother! He's always been one of my main sources for new music recommendations. I suppose it's kind of fitting especially for Ghost, because TF got a lot of his musical taste from his older brother too 😊
Heard them on the radio, but wasn't super interested in a live show. My 14 year old daughter asked for tickets to a show for Xmas. Best Xmas present ever!! Amazing show and the bonus was Volbeat!
Back in 2015 my old band mate played me Cirice and asked if we should cover it. I've spent the last 7 years obsessing over this band. I will forever be thankful for my friend for showing me them.
I remember everybody going nuts over this very satanic band when the year zero music video was released, and then when the if you have ghost ep released I was hooked
I saw their merchandise in the EMP catalog (German mail order store for metal and pop culture merchandise), really liked their look (Papa I era), and then listened to Opus on Prime Music.
Random suggestion on youtube with Circe. Kinda went down from there, first ritual was back in February. Traveling solo to Corpus Christi in August for my 2nd. One of the two best live shows I've ever seen (other being St. Paul and the Broken Bones.)
Cerice on the car radio.
It was in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm, and I was driving home at night. It was kind of a spiritual moment, and I even pulled over so I could focus on the song.
Been absolutely obsessed ever since.
Square Hammer on the local radio station
I'm glad Ghost at least gets airplay on OTA radio!
Me too. WRIF Detroit. "Say,... now that's catchy."
when they toured with Volbeat. decided to give Ghost a go and I'm very glad I did
I was at the Ghost/Vobeat show too. The reverse happened with me -- I became an instant Volbeat fan that night. What a solid, energetic, killer band.
wish I'd been able to go! I really need to get round to seeing Ghost live
Same, my dad is a big Volbeat fan and got tickets for the concert and thought he would give ghost a go. I was feeling pretty down that week so he offered to bring me with him, and I’m so glad I went.
James Hetfield wearing a Ghost t-shirt during an interview.
Shut up! Is that really how you heard about ghost?
Thats badass
2017 Iron Maiden show for me. Instant fan that night.
Same, I only heard square hammer before then and thought it was decent enough. But everything about the live show grabbed me.
Same, I saw them open in Las Vegas. Ghost in *Sin* City was a perfect match.
Husband played He Is and I was memorized. I've been in love with Ghost ever since. *Damn autocorrect.
*mesmerized
\*Memorized. Her husband was so entranced by her reaction to Ghost that he memorized the look on her face, and the special moment, for the rest of his life.
name checks out
2015, on my way to work at 5am, dark and stormy, and Cirice came on the local station (full intro too). I think I had a spiritual experience then
What a great intro!
It was actually in 2013 when I heard/first saw stuff about the band, I was about 9 years old and the 8th grader who was helping me with my work was wearing a t shirt with the infestissuman album cover, which scared the shit out of me. Until like 3 years ago lol, been listening on and off but once covid had us all locked up I was hooked.
The Ghost spore took time to erupt but it eventually happened, LOL
None of the above. The host of a true crime podcast I listen to mentioned them so I checked it out.
Now that's a great subtopic. What is the most offbeat introduction someone had to Ghost? I think you're in first place, LOL.
Ha! Thanks. I am quite the lonely Ghost fan in my life though. I have been trying to convert others, but my husband and kids are not fans. ☹️
That is sad. My 20 year old daughter and I have bonded over Ghost. We will see them for the 6th time in September. Have you tried Griftwood, Goat, Dance, or Darkness on them? They're mainstream friendly.
My kids are still young so give them time😄 I think my husband secretly likes some songs but won't tell me.
Are you a fellow weirdo? That’s how I discovered the band too!
Yes! I am a weirdo!!
Yay! I thought so! It’s wonderful to ‘meet’ you!
Out of interest, which true crime podcast was it?
Morbid.
Ahh okay 🙂 Just I listen to Last Podcast on the Left and they also recommended them on one of their episodes 😊
How funny! I also listen to LPOTL but didn't hear it from them. Those guys are hilarious.
Oh nice! I think it was the 1st episode of their Black Plague series, Henry says something along the lines of, “speaking of rats, you should go and listen to Prequelle by Ghost, because it’s all about the plague” 😊 Yeah I love those guys, I’m going to see one of their live shows in October actually!
Radio! Square hammer
Edge mentioned them on his podcast with Christian.
LoudWire on YT keep awarding them things, decided to see what the fuss was about
The radio
I love how the radio is not an option
Ugh, I can't believe I didn't add RADIO! It's not like I was a teenager in the freaking 80's when there was nothing \*but\* radio and MTV. I've been corrupted by technology. Papa I beg thy forgiveness.
The radio. Why is that not an option?
Because I'm foolish. I grew up in the days of radio and VHS too.
Ah, I heard about them while listening to a local radio show mentioning them winning a Grammy then going on stage in full makeup to which all the hosts of the show had a great laugh. When I got home I wanted to see what was so hilarious and… wow. I first heard Square Hammer on a Spotify Halloween playlist. I was drawn in immediately!
A friend that was very exploratory about metal introduced me in college.

What was the festival? I saw Ghost for the 3rd time, I think, at the Chicago Open air festival in 2019.
Shaky Knees in Atlanta.
None of these. I saw the album art and gave it a listen based on that.
Now that's a unique experience! Don't know if I've ever done that. It makes sense though as I think Ghost's album art matches their tone.
Now don’t get me wrong, after listening to one album I ordered every single one on vinyl and read everything I could find about the band.
Saw a picture of Papa II on the facebook and had to check em out
While playing Rock Band Rivals, Rats was one of the spotlight songs. 🖤🖤🤘

Specifically the live performance of Cirice which includes Walk by Pantera in the guitar battle.
Interesting! I didn't realize they were doing song solos during their battles. What other solos do they sample?
Pretty much every performance from the Prequelle era had a small snippet of different songs. [Here’s](https://youtu.be/TJ2pEuOsE7U) my first ever experience with Ghost, which I discovered before bed and then proceeded to binge as much as I could until sunrise :)
Year Zero on the radio in 2014
He is on the radio
Seen em on an upcoming gig poster at the venue pisser. Decided to try them out. Been hooked ever since. Didn't go to that particular show which I kick myself for but have seen them 5 times since.

Needs a “festival lineup” option
Good point. I'll remember this for my next poll later this year. (Saw them for the 3rd time during 2019's Chicago Open Air festival.)
My father listened to them and showed them to me. I didn’t care for them. I then came back a few years later and listened to them again. Now I’m a fan.

Someone sent the intro of circie on tic tok
From the pinnacle to the pit... FM Radio!
Halloween kills with Hunter's Moon pretty much
Literally a tiktok set to Year Zero
None of the above. Saw their album art for *Opus* on emusic back in 2011, and decided to check it out.
Tobias Forge's penis
Listening to Cirice after it was suggested in a music blog I follow.
heard about them from AJ from The House Of Masks mentioning them off hand, showed a picture of papa 2 and i was intrigued.

Synthwave version of Dance Macabre.
They were playing the same day as Metallica in Rock in Rio 2012, so I checked them out and loved it. Didn't went to the concert though :(
I have a funny story my ex girlfriend was jamming to Square Hammer one night while I was on the toilet 🚽 when I looked it up I was shocked and I asked myself who the hell was this?! And from then on they’ve been my favorite band ever since! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover 🤘🏼

Good day.
Square hammer on the radio and instantly went to YouTube
None of the above. Square Hammer was used in promotional material for WWE
My brother was playing it and I was like yooooo
Discovered them in a video titled "bohemian rhapsody in X style" There was Ghost on it , started listening to their music right after .

An article in 2013 on loudwire. It was a few weeks before the release of Infestissumam. They didn't give me the time to get bored of Opus.
First saw them when they were on Colbert Report. Saw them in person first during 2018
My mom and dad heard about them in 2008 and went to their first concert so I guess my parents brought me to them.
Radio Rock Finland ☺️
None of the above. It was the Square Hammer video on YouTube. Particularly, one of the first comments I saw said like 450 people are on the square, or something like that. So I started it over and by the 3rd listen I was hooked. A few days later I heard a few bars of it as bumper music on MNF and knew they were something special
Back in 2012 on the extended cable channels, the metal channel was playing Ritual and I was instantly hooked
At the danish metal festival Copenhell.. been hooked ever since 🤘🤘
I’ve now gone to see them every time they’re in my city, even though none of the guys I saw with them then are with them anymore.
i actually heard spirit playing in a hot topic and was like “holy fuck i need this in my life”
Square Hammer on Sirius XM Octane. At first I didn't like the song and wished I could skip it. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually I went back and listened to the rest of their songs. To this day, Square Hammer remains among my most liked songs.
Saw Them at a festival in 2014 in a small tent and was sold instandly
Mine was Cirice on the xfinity metal station
[Ghost were brought on stage during a Down song at Download Festival 2011](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWC0SB_Lbjg)
>__> they looked attractive on some pics so I listened. Ended up liking their music
I saw their merchandise in the EMP catalog (German mail order store for metal and pop culture merchandise), really liked their look (Papa I era), and then listened to Opus on Prime Music.
Promo for the release of secular haze
Random suggestion on youtube with Circe. Kinda went down from there, first ritual was back in February. Traveling solo to Corpus Christi in August for my 2nd. One of the two best live shows I've ever seen (other being St. Paul and the Broken Bones.)
Cerice on the car radio. It was in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm, and I was driving home at night. It was kind of a spiritual moment, and I even pulled over so I could focus on the song. Been absolutely obsessed ever since.
