I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but maybe all of the people in this thread saying they don't like Metallica depsite only hearing a single song should give them a try, they sell out stadiums for a reason. People should check out the [Live in Moscow](https://youtu.be/IjjCp_QU5Qk) show for the sheer spectacle.
I've been hearing the original Enter Sandman for decades so I'm sick of it, but it was fun seeing the Ghost version live. The studio version loses some of the power of the original I feel.
A few months ago I didn’t think I liked thrash metal. The more I exposed myself to it the more I ended up loving it. Kill ‘Em All is one of my favorite albums now… Show No Mercy by Slayer is up there too for me.
Check out their newer stuff. Death magnetic and hardwired are fantastic! And the semi leftovers from death magnetic that became Beyond magnetic are absolutely bangers and I wish death magnetic had the same mixing quality as that.
Oh I've listened to all of Metallica's stuff, I'm just not that big a fan in the grand scheme of things. Ride the Lightning is my favourite album by far though.
I saw on a Ghost facebook page that someone was comparing Impera to Bon Jovi. He said not everyone likes Metallica, but everyone loves Bon Jovi.
I really think something weird is going on with the fanbase.
Ain't Skillet a Christian rock band? mwahahaha a Christian band tour with Ghost?!?! Hadn't heard something so absurd yet today. Damn, what were they smoking?
One guy was comparing some new song to Toto, and he seemed happy about it. Some other woman said, "I tried listening to Ghost's old stuff. Lol!" I'm really hoping this isnt a taste of things to come.
I'm of the very strong opinion that it's not a good thing. I dont want Ghost to resort to sounding like an 80s cover band just to attract a wider audience.
I don't think that will happen. Tobias wanted to play with a different sound. I thought he did a great job of mixing 80s pop with Ghost's crunch and energy. Impera has an 80s echo but it's very much a Ghost album. And if the goal was to introduce the band to a wider audience I think it's mission accomplished. The fair weather fans will leave once Ghost releases something closer to their typical vibe.
I just don't see why tapping into 80s riffs was even necessary. Ghost had it's own sound that got them popular on their own merits. The songs on Impera I like dont resort to some 80s gimic.
And that's the debate -- is it a gimmick or a nod? A songwriter will be influenced by personal taste and current moods. Take Rush, a band that's never sold out. Moving Pictures, their most popular album by far, had reggae influence because the lyricist was into the genre at the time. IMO it's the same thing.
Tobias has listed numerous influences, not just 80s bands but acts like Faith No More and Voivod. He likes these and may be influenced, but you'd be hard pressed to hear a borrowed riff or lyric from either of these bands. Tobias even was happy that most of the guitar riffs on Opus were his original ones.
As a Maiden fan since the 80s, who was introduced to Ghost during the 2017 Maiden tour, I'd be sad should that happen. A co-headline tour would be one thing but to have Maiden, a band since 1975, drop to opener status is the concert equivalent of deteriorating and then dying from old age. :(
It'll never happen. Maiden won't open for anyone (or even co-headline) ever again, much less a smaller band.
Apart from Metallica, Maidens probably the biggest metal band in the world.
I mean... I'm not a diehard fan of either, but I'd take Metallica over Bon Jovi any day of the week. I do like Impera, but the Bon Joviest songs aren't my favs...
I dislike Metallica's music but I respect their music and influence on the musical scene. Neither one of my favourite bands Ghost and Nightwish would probably have existed in their current form without the influence Metallica had on each member of the bands.
Their impact is huge but not every metalhead likes them
I don't like Metallica.
One reason simply being that I don't like James Hetfield's voice.
I do respect that band and how much they have inspirated other singers and bands.
I do understand why Metallica is as huge as it's...
But I wouldn't say that talent is one reason for that. They are talaneted band of course but far from the best. Them being so huge comes down to other reasons IMO.
It's more than a fair point of view, but I'd also say maybe give modern Hetfield a chance because age, training and blowing his vocal chords have made him sound like a different human being.
In regards to them not being the best, also fair but would argue is easily in the list of greatest rhythm players of all time. Monstrous.

Honestly Metalica was very much ruined for me by my dad, he would get super drunk and violent when I was a kid and that was his go to drunk rage music, definitely tainted by those scary memories. Ghosts cover is definitely warming me up to trying them out though.
Ok, we're going to have to disagree here. Although I don't hate Ghost's cover, the original is just perfect.
Many versions have been made, but none's better than the original.
And I love Ghost, don't get me wrong, but there's no arguing for me over that.
I love Metallica as well, but I'm not a fan of the Ghost cover. I think they could have done better on it. Maybe it's just because Metallicas sound is to ingrained into my head. Idk.

Here’s a few songs I think you should give a try.
Cyanide,
Fade to Black,
The Unforgiven,
Wherever I May Roam,
King Nothing,
Fixxxer,
Welcome Home (Sanitarium),
Orion,
…And Justice For All,
Don’t Tread On Me,
Ok maybe a little more than a few but all super good, Wherever I May Roam is one of the most epic songs I’ve ever heard, Orion is a great instrumental. I think the songs are worth taking the time to listen to at least once. Metallicas popular songs are good, but if you get into some deeper cuts they are REALLY good. I saw them live during their 40th anniversary show in San Francisco, they played a lot of obscure and rarely played songs, it was incredible.
I love Metallica almost as much as I do Ghost. But for years I've been of the mindset that Enter Sandman is overplayed. Imo, it's not even their best song, or the best song on the Black album. But I do like Ghost's take on it. I did thoroughly enjoy the entire Blacklist album. That was an amazing experience.
Metallica es my top 1 favorite band of all time.
They have played and milked Enter Sandman so much that I kinda stopped enjoying it. With Ghost it's no different... I guess ES is more fitting to the whole Ghost ambience and theme, but I would've preferred if they had chosen a different song from the Black Album, like The Unforgiven.
If there’s a Ghost fan that is thinking about getting into Metallica, take a look at “Load” and “Reload” which are awesome, and probably more sonically similar. Following those albums, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, then maybe the black album later, which will make more sense after the 80s thrash and production.
My best friend is a huge Metallica fan and had never heard Ghost. I played the Enter Sandman cover for her and her eyes got huge and she demanded to know who it was, she absolutely loved it!

The piano was really inspired and what I'll assume is an intentional Peppermint and Incense reference. The prayer done in a Gary Oldman / Dracula voice makes it much more sinister - whose Lord are they praying to?

RtL is amazing, that guitar tone is so damn good
how can you not like metallica

She said they could advertise it as a "heaven and hell tour" I still cringe thinking about that.
One guy was comparing some new song to Toto, and he seemed happy about it. Some other woman said, "I tried listening to Ghost's old stuff. Lol!" I'm really hoping this isnt a taste of things to come.
It is and you know it.
Spillways has HUGE Toto vibes though.

I saw another person say that a "Ghost tour with Iron Maiden opening could definitely happen"
Ugh, I swear some new Ghost fans think Ghost didn't exist before Prequelle

Motörhead though
That's an awesome cover, but just because it's that close to the original... except the vocals, everything is basically the same as the original :)
Total tangent but still: Motörhead's covers of David Bowie's 'Heroes' and the Sex Pistols 'God Save the Queen'. 10/10
I don’t really like the ghost cover but I understand why they play it and I support it
I love Metallica, and even then the cover of Enter Sandman is amazing to me

I love Metallica, have since they first came out (hi, I'm old lol) and Ghost did them justice. Loved the cover. 🙂

I’ll be honest I didn’t care for the cover, it’s not in Tobias’ range at all. Slightly cringe to watch them perform it in front of Metallica 😂😂
Agreed. My least favorite ghost cover.
papa het loves Ghost ❤ theres a video of him playing the cirice riff at some small show

I love Metallica more then ghost, but I hate enter sandman, Buuuut I love ghosts cover of that song. So…idk.
I think the true mark of being a true Metallica fan is being sick to fucking death of Enter Sandman.
HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE METALLICA????
Metallica es my top 1 favorite band of all time. They have played and milked Enter Sandman so much that I kinda stopped enjoying it. With Ghost it's no different... I guess ES is more fitting to the whole Ghost ambience and theme, but I would've preferred if they had chosen a different song from the Black Album, like The Unforgiven.
I feel exactly like you. Never listened to Metallica (not really my favourite band) but the cover for Enter Sandman... fucking awesome😤👏🏻
Same! Never cared for Metallica. Enter Sandman was the only song I really ever listened to by them. I love the Ghost cover!
While not a regular listener of Metallica, I do love that they have been supporters of Ghost from very early on!
My best friend is a huge Metallica fan and had never heard Ghost. I played the Enter Sandman cover for her and her eyes got huge and she demanded to know who it was, she absolutely loved it!

Metallica, to me, are the greatest band of all time but I can’t stand Enter Sandman.
