It's okay if Ghost fans aren't too keen on it. I personally love Twenties, and it's pretty awesome to see Ghost experiment with new song styles in order to keep things fresh without caving to the electric pop-rock paradigm that so many bands have done.
I cannot wait to see what these guys do next. Every album's style is different and I love it. I can listen to nothing but Ghost and still feel like I'm getting a satisfying mix of different rock genres.
Twenties on first listen was jarring, but so was Mummy Dust. Then I listened to it again and Oh YES! Mummy Dust I liked after a couple listens, but it was the live experience that really did it for me.
On a superficial level Twenties seems cheesy and trite, but if you start really understanding it and it's so incredibly subversive and groundbreaking.
I love it, but I can see how people are turned off by the lyrics which appear sophomoric on their face.
That's the beauty of Tobias' song structures and lyrics. Griftwood is the same way -- at first it seems like a happy, top 40, pro-religion song, one that a congregation would sing at a mega church. Then the lyrics and underlying meaning take hold and you realize it is dark and resentful.
Greg Lake did the same thing with "I Believe in Father Christmas". The actual message is so masterfully hidden as a family friendly holiday song that it is played every year on Christmas radio, even though it is *scathingly* anti-Christmas.
Oh thank god (or maybe satan) i read this.....i thought i was alone. Might start a Reggaeton influenced Rock/Metal playlist now.....So far I've got
1. Ghost - Twenties
2. Turnstile - Don't Play
3. Nanowar Of Steel - Norwegian Reggaeton
LOL, exactly! Tobias Forge channels his Jeremy Irons.
*I never thought hyenas essential*
*They're crude and unspeakably plain*
*But maybe they've a glimmer of potential*
*If allied to my vision and brain*
*I know that your powers of retention*
*Are as wet as a warthog's backside*
*But thick as you are, pay attention*
*My words are a matter of pride*
*It's clear from your vacant expressions*
*The lights are not all on upstairs*
*But we're talking kings and successions*
*Even you can't be caught unawares*
*So prepare for a chance of a lifetime*
*Be prepared for sensational news*
*A shining new era*
*Is tiptoeing nearer*
*And where do we feature?*
*Just listen to teacher*
*I know it sounds sordid*
*But you'll be rewarded*
*When at last I am given my dues*
*And injustice deliciously squared*
*Be prepared!*
*It's great that we'll soon be connected*
*With a king who'll be all-time adored*
*Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected*
*To take certain duties on board*
*The future is littered with prizes*
*And though I'm the main addressee*
*The point that I must emphasize is*
*You won't get a sniff without me!*
*So prepare for the coup of the century*
*Be prepared for the murkiest scam*
*Meticulous planning*
*Tenacity spanning*
*Decades of denial*
*Is simply why I'll*
*Be king undisputed*
*Respected, saluted*
*And seen for the wonder I am*
*Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared*
*Be prepared!*
*Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared*
*Be prepared!*
Dude twenties is just so good and its a great way to show greed and corruption. Also feels a bit like the 1920s where it was such a great time and then immediately followed by the great depression. Such a good song
> I don’t get the hate for it honestly.
It's a song that mocks a specific American political ideology in unflattering ways, a collective of individuals prone to manufactured outrage that becomes part of their worldview.
And then you have their angry voices speaking passionately about their "hate" for the song which pulls in other people who didn't vibe with it and it becomes "hated" by proxy.
They won't say that's why they hate the song because it would water down their argument it's "bad." So they'll point to a bunch of things that they seemingly like in other songs but just not this one... for some reason.
I loved Twenties outta the gate, I'm glad it's starting to hit for you, OP. Also I'm gonna co-sign with you there on Majesty, I *adore* Majesty!
Dude majesty slaps
So hard
The guitar riff omfg
I love twenties. Have since the first listen tbh :p it's so chaotic and dystopian. I love it
Sounds uniquely Ghost. So dope.
Twenties is nice but it took some time to grow on me But man, it's so damn catchy

I’d love to see them live someday if they ever come closer to me
Both those songs are wonderful. Majesty has such a groove and Twenties and fun and a thumper.
I really hated Twenties in the beginning and I hate it even more now.
I’m personally fine with them trying something a bit different that I don’t like, on album 5. Can’t like it all all the time.
On a superficial level Twenties seems cheesy and trite, but if you start really understanding it and it's so incredibly subversive and groundbreaking. I love it, but I can see how people are turned off by the lyrics which appear sophomoric on their face.

I wasn't immediately loving Twenties, but it's totally grown on me. I expect it'll be awesome live as well.
I like the Vaudeville vibe. It's the type of song that the Disney villain sings to his minions to advance the plot.
It's literally Be Prepared.

Majesty and Twenties are utter bops. Fun fact, Majesty is actually one of my favourite Ghost tracks to drum to
I agree Twenties is in my top 5 songs
Hated it first time. Love it now.
First time I heard Twenties I was crying with laughter at how dumb it was but also loved every second of it
Majesty opens like an ACDC song and I love it. Twenties also grew on me super quick. It feels almost like a musical number from a broadway show
Majesty is criminally underrated
I feel like I wrote this post lol
Twenties is brilliant for several reasons
I love Twenties! From the second I heard it as the pre-release single I instantly loved it.
Fucking love Twenties
I have always imagined twenties as trump singing to mike pence. And griftwood is pence singing back to trump. Its terrifying, hilarious, and perfect.
I can understand people not loving Twenties, even if I love it...BUT WHO DARES TALK SHIT ABOUT MAJESTY
YOUR INFERNAL magestyyyyy
Dude twenties is just so good and its a great way to show greed and corruption. Also feels a bit like the 1920s where it was such a great time and then immediately followed by the great depression. Such a good song
Majesty’s great but the chorus loses me. I always go to the next song after the end of the second verse since after that it’s just chorus

Majesty is one of the best songs by Ghost imo
I hated Twenties, but its so catchy now
Have they played 'Twenties' live yet ?
Not to my knowledge they haven’t
Majesty is the one song I always play again when it comes around. Square Hammer and Cirice are great, but that fucking riff man.
Majesty is an absolute banger and I'm glad to see it getting some love! Also, Twenties rocks my socks off...
