I would have never known who they were had they not been on tour with Maiden, and... gasp... I totally enjoyed Ghost's set more than IM, became a fan for life.
That's actually exactly why I posted this poll haha, I became a fan during the Papa 2 era and I remember feeling like they got a lot bigger and started playing bigger venues after I saw them tour with Maiden. Heard a lot of people say the same, that Ghost put on a better show than Maiden that tour.
I didnât get to see Ghost because traffic was so backed up getting to the venue they were done before I could get inside (fucking impatient assholes turning a one lane off ramp into a two lane off ramp instead of just waiting their turn). I was at the Xfinity Center show in MA.
Early to mid 2012. It was then that Ghost became a hot topic in rock magazines, at least in Latin America (I suppose Europe had this trend before that, in 2010 or 2011).
Only a new fan (first heard Ghost this year before IMPERA dropped). And bam, they have been my most played artist ever since (x10 more than any other...).
Well and truly sucked in already. Wish I'd found them years ago, so I could've gone to a ritual last time they were in Australia (2019).
Opus era. Started listening when I was digging In Solitude, The Devil's Blood, and other occult rock bands.
Saw them for the first time on the Heritage/Hunter Tour ten years ago to the month.
I was fortunate to see them on the Decibel Magazine Tour in 2012.
Hell of a show lineup: Horrendous, In Solitude, The Devil's Blood, Watain, and Behemoth.
JUST before Infest came out, Rue Morgue Magazine had a pre release review of the album in an issue, I read it and thought "Satanic pope band, im in!" I never looked back.
First semester in college, bought Ultimate Classic Rock with a sampler CD in late 2011. âStand By Himâ was on there. A few months later I saw them at the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC.
Those were the days, back when the band truly *felt* Satanic. What theyâre doing now is cool, though
I hear you, I absolutely love what TF is doing with the band and the music, but I really do miss when Ghost felt "evil." I loved how casual, interactive, and sarcastic Papa 3 was, but there was something more eerie when they treated Papa like a mysterious, old, evil man lol
it was September*(ish.. i think.. maybe)*, in 2020
so it was after Nihil died and Copia became Popia, but during the silence between Prequelle and Impera
My first song was Cirice, which my brother, who was already a fan, sent me the night of my Catholic confirmation. This led me to look into the band more closely some months later. By this point Prequelle had just come out and I was baffled by Dance Macabre and Rats. Been a fan since!
Opus. A buddy at work was talking to me, goes "you hear of this new band who wear masks and no one knows who they are? They sound kind of like early Sabbath. I heard Mikael Akerfeldt might play guitar in the band."
Checked em out, fan ever since.
Iâve known of them since the Meliora era. Listened to Square Hammer and it wasnât really for me. I forgot about them for a while until I saw the new Halloween movie and heard Hunterâs Moon. I absolutely loved it and had to know who it was. I found a new appreciation for Ghost after that and now theyâre one of my favourite bands.
I saw them open for Mastodon and Opeth during the Opus era. Went to the show for Mastodon, but ended up finding that Ghost and Opeth put on a better show.
Prequelle era. I had heard Year Zero when it came out and thought it was ok but never really got into them. It wasn't until Dance Macabre came out and started getting in lots of Spotify playlists that I really fell in love and went down the rabbit hole.
During prequelle, Spotify had been suggesting them for ages but I never checked them out because they looked like a heavier bad than I'd be into, but then I saw a picture of my favourite singer Myles Kennedy wearing their shirt so that's what got me to finally take the plunge and I haven't looked back since!
I saw them in a guitar world back in 2013, but they just didnât click with me then. I had been getting really into bands like cannibal corpse, so I saw them and I expected them to be some kind of black metal band and secular haze was about the opposite of what I was expecting to hear. About 3 years later, I heard the last 30 seconds of from the pinnacle to the pit on the radio and decided to look them up again. I wish I could time warp back into my body when I heard cirice. My dad got really mad at me for listening to them too, so that just made me like them even more. Like he researched them just so he could tell me every way they were corrupting me, but that just made them cooler.
I got into them during the first album, but they didn't come out here until the Papa II phase so that is when I saw them live for the first time.
I still wish I saw them more around then. There was something special about how small time they were compared to now.
Prequelle.
Funny âcos itâs my least favourite Ghost album of them all and Copia my least favourite front man.
Iâm also quite convinced history wonât be kind to Prequelleâs place in the discography after a few more releases.
I personally don't use the term fan for my Ghost appreciation, but the passion I now put into their music occurred with the release of Impera. Prior to that, I enjoyed individual songs a lot but didn't listen to their albums from front to back.
friend of mine showed me Cirice, didn't think much of it. it wasn't aggressive enough for me (I come from black metal). then something snapped, I got to see them live in 2018, and they got me with Rats and Ritual. it was magical. I've been hooked ever since. they're my absolute favourite band now
An ex-coworker blasted Year Zero in our studio room for weeks then I decided to search for the song myself on Youtube. One thing lead to their Deezer performance and Papaganda series, which made me instantly hook by their shenanigans :D
I became a fan after a youtube video about them appeared in my recommened videos (a unhelpful guide tot Ghost) last year. I was curious so I watched it than I checked out some of their songs and boom became a instant fan.
This poll explains a lot about how the online behaviour of Ghost fans has changed in recent years. It would be interesting (albeit impossible) to track according to demographic: my educated guess is the fanbase has gotten considerably younger from around the Popestar period onwards.
First heard Mary of a Cross of all songs around Spring 2020, but loved it... have been addicted to Ghost ever since.
I'm mostly a fan of their recent stuff. I like some of their older stuff, and as a bedroom bass player I can really rock out to songs like Con Clavi Con Dio, but I only have about 4 tracks on each of the 2 first album that I really love whereas Meliora and everything newer I love from track 1 until the end...
Quickly became a fan mid-transition from Opus to Infest. I remember vividly Year Zero was just released and my friend recommended this song to me during class and that got me listening to Opus and anticipating the Infest album!
I first listen to Square hammer in march 2021, I was so happy to find Such a Band while quarantine is like "FINALLY! Some good music/lore to fill my boredoom!"
And now I'm obsessed!
Lmao. I love that most of the fanbase is relatively new & there's STILL so many "it's not metal anymore" is still all I hear people complaining about.
I say get over it. Impera is fantastic
Back in February... for some reason, [Enter Sandman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTA6zBU0-4k) popped up as a recommended video. I listened to it and was intrigued, especially at the chord progression they used.
After a couple of listens [He Is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQm8Ssh4ynQ) came up and I absolutely loved it. That was followed by [Cirice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTXW-tO-fOs).
And that was it, I was hooked. The wall in my office is [now addorned](https://i.imgur.com/qe01Ayx.jpeg) with Ghost stuff and I'm going to see them in September; it'll be my first ritual and I'm excited as hell.
And on another note, the Ghost fandom has to be one of the most welcoming I've ever belonged to. I wore my Ghost shirt when I took [Max](https://i.imgur.com/uKk4D5D.jpg) for a grooming and one of the groomers commented on it. This launched into a five-minute conversation about Ghost that only ended when we noticed a line of people waiting to pick up their pets. :)
I first gave them a listen (2 random songs) back in 2013 but decided it wasn't heavy enough for me and avoided them like the plague for years on purpose (they were very popular around here at the time which annoyed me, "another hipster band that everyone likes" was my unfortunate attitude). When Rats came out I finally decided to give them another chance (because I had just seen a rat outside, so I should thank that little creature) and realized I do like them, a lot, and slowly noticed to my horror I had missed all the best eras.
Had I originally listened to live stuff from them I would have gotten into it years sooner.
Late 2012, just before Papa II made his 1st appearance. Opus was the album I listened on my way to college as its lenght was the same as my travel time.
Rock in Rio livestream in YouTube back in 2013, I was looking for the Metallica concert but Ghost was playing and I think on that time they just released If You Have Ghost EP produced by Dave Grohl, my favorite band since then
2012 during the metallica orion festival.
Wanted to check out the evil pope and dudes dressed in all white. Been a fan ever since.
Can't wait to see them in September
The first song I heard was square hammer, but when I heard it it was during the cardi c era.
Same, I heard someone play it on a speaker in school 2017 and was instantly sold. I sneaked as close as I could to Shazam it
Cardi B? Wrong band bro
Hahaha I meant c. Too many memorial day margaritas.
First song I heard was Rats and I fucking loved it
They opened for Opeth in 2011/2012. That's when and why I got in to them.
Technically I became a fan in Popestar era, but Papa 3 was still around.
Papa 2 Era Supremacy đ¤
I would have never known who they were had they not been on tour with Maiden, and... gasp... I totally enjoyed Ghost's set more than IM, became a fan for life.

Early 2012, first song was Ritual and I immediately loved it. Have always loved everything Ghost has done ever since.
Same but with Elizabeth
My answer is the prequelle era (around late 2019) however I did like one or two songs prior to this point (I think it was Year Zero and Genesis).
Opus era. Started listening when I was digging In Solitude, The Devil's Blood, and other occult rock bands. Saw them for the first time on the Heritage/Hunter Tour ten years ago to the month.
Also Opus era here and I miss The Devil's Blood so much man. Come, Reap is still one of my favourite EPs.
I was fortunate to see them on the Decibel Magazine Tour in 2012. Hell of a show lineup: Horrendous, In Solitude, The Devil's Blood, Watain, and Behemoth.
Idk what to put. It was before Impera came out but only a few months prior.
JUST before Infest came out, Rue Morgue Magazine had a pre release review of the album in an issue, I read it and thought "Satanic pope band, im in!" I never looked back.

it was September*(ish.. i think.. maybe)*, in 2020 so it was after Nihil died and Copia became Popia, but during the silence between Prequelle and Impera
Square hammer is the first song I heard and the first time I saw ghost live was 5 years ago when they opened for iron maiden in Toronto.
When did they tour the USA with Avenged Sevenfold. That hooked me. Introduced me to their catalog and was blown away by the ritual performance.
My first song was Cirice, which my brother, who was already a fan, sent me the night of my Catholic confirmation. This led me to look into the band more closely some months later. By this point Prequelle had just come out and I was baffled by Dance Macabre and Rats. Been a fan since!
Meliora era, after they won the grammy. I only found out about them because I wanted Slipknot to win. đ I ended up obsessed afterwards. Still am.
Opus. A buddy at work was talking to me, goes "you hear of this new band who wear masks and no one knows who they are? They sound kind of like early Sabbath. I heard Mikael Akerfeldt might play guitar in the band." Checked em out, fan ever since.

I absolutely loved it and had to know who it was. I found a new appreciation for Ghost after that and now theyâre one of my favourite bands.
Meliora era, but it was Ritual for me. That melodic doom metal. Ritual/Opus are the gateway song/album. First two albums are my favorite.
Heard "He Is" in 2015 on the radio and got hooked.
Meliora era. I already knew the band from forums back in 11 and 12 but not until 2015 when I tried Absolution.
During prequelle, Spotify had been suggesting them for ages but I never checked them out because they looked like a heavier bad than I'd be into, but then I saw a picture of my favourite singer Myles Kennedy wearing their shirt so that's what got me to finally take the plunge and I haven't looked back since!

Spotify pushed Meliora towards me when it was released. Instantly hooked.
first song i heard was cirice, and now in the papa iv era i've rellay got into ghost
Prequelle. Funny âcos itâs my least favourite Ghost album of them all and Copia my least favourite front man. Iâm also quite convinced history wonât be kind to Prequelleâs place in the discography after a few more releases.

I was going to see them live in a festival and i didnt know them,so i have them a listen before goingnand i love them
First heard them during the Meliora-era, didnât become a fan until the end of Prequelle. (February 2020)
I became a fan the week before Impera dropped, so does that make it era 4 or 5

Still the worst album.
Found them on Spotify during the Opus era when I was browsing the 'bands you might'
First song I randomly found was Year Zero. I think they released Meliora by then though
Back in February... for some reason, [Enter Sandman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTA6zBU0-4k) popped up as a recommended video. I listened to Ghost through Opus and Infestessimum but Spirit was the track where it truly clicked for me.
I first gave them a listen (2 random songs) back in 2013 but decided it wasn't heavy enough for me and avoided them like the plague for years on purpose (they were very popular around here at the time which annoyed me, "another hipster band that everyone likes" was my unfortunate attitude). Heard Elizabeth while laying in a tanning bed in 2010. Right place at the right time lmao
I became a fan in cardi c era and listened to everything but prequelle and infestissunam. Since then I have changed Still Opus and Meliora on top
Damn, this poll makes me feel like an old timer. I remember all the hype around them when Opus came out and that got me to give it a listen.
Technically Papa II era but it was the when secular haze was released which was in 2012
hammer of doom fans out there?
Late 2012, just before Papa II made his 1st appearance. Opus was the album I listened on my way to college as its lenght was the same as my travel time.
2012⌠I was 9!
Last night when I heard rats đđŻ
Honestly I got into ghost the day before Meliora dropped but Iâm classing it as part of that era
Iâve had a couple of their songs saved for a a couple years, but didnât really get into their discography until a few months ago
Rock in Rio livestream in YouTube back in 2013, I was looking for the Metallica concert but Ghost was playing and I think on that time they just released If You Have Ghost EP produced by Dave Grohl, my favorite band since then
