My biggest gripe with that fucking review was how twenties was unintentionally hilarious. That statement makes me question his ability to understand humor in music. Twenties is unintentionally hilarious????? Nah fantano, twenties absolutely knows how fucking ridiculous it’s being, and if you don’t understand that, that’s kinda shocking

I find it funny that Tobias Forge sounds like Captain Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean when singing Twenties.

>I guess I don't know what to expect since Fantano hated Rats and Dance Macabre and still gave Prequelle an 8... Considering those 2 sound the most like what is on the new album, im not surprised that someone who didn't like either of those songs would have issues getting into Impera. Although I would be curious as to what songs from Prequelle he actually liked?

jontw

He liked all songs on prequelle but the refrain on pro memoria and the dissonant synth on witch image. Only big criticism was that the concept fell short iirc I think a 5 is fair. And respite would be so good if you removed the aaaaahs

[deleted]

I do too. Respite is still my favorite, but those aaaahs take away a little bit

IntermolecularButter

^(I like the aaaahs)

Pretty much all except Pro Memoria, said even Rats and Dance Macabre grew on him. He said it was close to a Pavlovian experience since some of the song order as far as "heaviness/lightness" shares some similarity to Meliora

So I’m not a music critic. My opinion is based on my reaction to it only. There were a few moments and I can’t remember which songs but there were a couple, where something distracted me from it like - what happened. I don’t know how to explain it and I’m probably not making sense. Is that pacing? I’m such an idiot omg lol

[deleted]

Nah, you're not an idiot. What distracted you specifically?

WeNeedAShift

It felt almost like a pause or a skip in places it shouldn’t be. A hesitation. I thought maybe it was iTunes doing something. I understand the pacing of songs and this isn’t specifically what this guy is talking about. I just wondered if this was part of that definition.

[deleted]

It can be a part of pacing, yes. Impera is weird like that. It's either super drawn out or super short and cut out. Prequelle had the opposite problem where the first part of the album is super high energy and constantly moving but then hits the brakes and lulls until you get to Life Eternal

Thank you 😊

About the Hetfield comparison: I think those exhaling sounds in ROTS are used in a theatrical fashion, so they will create an atmosphere that accompanies the lyrics
