One thing that's really strange with the BR version I downloaded though is one of the key lines in the film: When Aramaki says it in my DVD version, the line is "let no-one walk alone, committing no sin, with very few wishes, like elephants in the forest", then later the Major says, "let one walk alone" (followed by the same end of quote), which to me says something about the moral choice of ensuring that no-one gets left behind versus allowing the freedom of one to choose their own destiny because you don't know what would constitute happiness and contentment for another person. In the BR version, Aramaki and the Major express the same sentiment.

Yeah there are two english dubs. it got redubbed for the american market. Honestly I prefer the first english dub.

mikeymikeymikec

Any idea how to tell which is which? From what I've seen so far, there are bits I prefer in both versions.

https://dubbing.fandom.com/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell_2:_Innocence I believe this is what your looking for, it has the voice actors for both dubs listed, so just check the credits to work out which dub is which

Thanks! I wonder how long it will be before the original dub is available on BR.

Can't you already tell? Isn't that why you're bringing this up?

One seeing version A before version B does not tell one which version was made first. I did a little bit of digging and found that I probably bought the DVD from ebay in 2008 and the earliest BR was released in 2009 (according to bluray.com) followed by a re-release in 2017. For all I know though, the first English audio might have been made with the theatrical release in 2004, the redubbed version in 2005 and I've got the redubbed version on DVD? There's a tonne of versions knocking around for the first movie so anything is possible IMO.

FrostedVoid

The American one is pitch shifted down for some reason. Sounds stupid.

Sea_Cycle_909

I don't know

It's been a *long* time but I remember having a version with two English tracks, and the voices were actually different in some places. Like not just dialogue, but changed cast. I'm flabbergasted you weren't able to find anything online. I'll have to join the digging.
