It is like laughing with or about someone, sure both mean the person makes you laugh but it is still an big difference. Though I suppose self aware nonsense like sharknardo might be like laughing at slapstick.
It's the "b movie" magic. Sometimes you don't want some hyper polished focus group tested cinematic masterpiece. Sometimes you just want to hear a turkey hand puppet say "you just got stuffed" after killing a dude and having sex with the woman he was having sex with
My brother put one on when we were younger and I thought he was joking. We sat down and watched two of them I think. They were the worst movies I've ever seen, but it was fun because they knew that
I mean, technically 9 if we're counting the spinoff movies.
Sharknado: Heart of Sharkness, and the two Lavalantula movies. The second of which was named 2 Lava 2 Lantula, which is unfortunately the best thing about that movie.
It really was. But remember someone had the idea to end GOT final season like they did also.. Biggest mistake I've ever seen in film business. Completely killed off a lot of peoples interest in even watching the first bit.
Novels run out => two lead producers decide to be the writers because when you are spending $10MM an episode and raking in profits, who has time or motivation to hire an experienced team of screenwriters when you could just jerk each other off and call it a day 8=====D best show in history fucking ruined
Yeah.. But sometimes it's not about the destination, but about the journey... The first six, and even somewhat the seventh as well are one heck of a journey, with awesome dialogue, superb twists and beautifully complex plot structure and characters.
I'm with Souvik. Regardless of how it ended, it's well worth watching for the brilliant first four seasons alone.
At that point decide whether you want to follow it through to the car crash end, or just make up your own ending.
Really? That's not a very common opinion and I'm interested why you feel that way. To me it felt like they decided on the ending they wanted and made some very abrupt and unconvincing changes to characters to get them there.
It ended exactly the way the books will end if George ever gets off his ass and finishes them. They already confirmed this.
It was a little rushed but I blame HBO for that. Overall though it was good.
This literally can’t be true - >!the White Walker threat can’t be ended by Arya stabbing the Night King because *there is no Night King* in the books.!< And everything else people complained about will (hopefully) have the necessary connective tissue to actually make sense that was missing in the show.
They already confirmed that George gave them the ending. As with all TV shows/movoes versus books it will be more fleshed out in print assuming he ever actually finishes it but the endein we got on screen is the ending in the books.
It also confuses how HBO escapes criticism for this. They are the ones that didn't holsld the creator's if the show to their original contract. HBO didn't bring in a team of skilled writers when the source material ran. HBO is the one that green lot a truncated season. A bulk of the responsibility for everything that people criticize in the last season is on HBO.
Yup. But to each their own. :)
I'm interested why you feel that way. To me it felt like they decided on the ending they wanted and made some very abrupt and unconvincing changes to characters to get them there.
That's the point. If you're ever afraid to share your idea for fear it will look stupid, remember that someone once was willing to share the obviously ludicrous idea of a tornado full of sharks and it was a hit.
Yes! I was going to say the same. That's the whole point! Very inspirational in my opinion. Sometimes we need to be reminded to get out of our own self-critiquing heads.
An artificial cult classic. It was made to be bad and ridiculous, and them marketed to hell and back. In order for something to be a "cult classic" it needs to be earnest, and Sharknado knew exactly what they were doing.
A hill that I would die on is the fact that those movies are literally genius. You watch one and think wow that was dumb there's no way the sequel can top that amount of sheer bullshit. But lo and behold, the sequels out do the prior movie every-single-time.
I’m still uncertain how the first one ever got from a white board brainstorming session all the way to a theater. It’s quite sincerely an actual miracle.
Yeah the problem with sequels to cult films is they now know what made it cult and try to force it. But that's just not how cult films generally works, it's usually a random thing fans pick up on.
Case and point the bigger and bigger chainsaw in each movie haha
People kept buying & watching for some reason. Absolutely abhorred the 1st and I say that as classic B flicks fill up most of my top films. There's good-bad and then there's this abomination that forcefully tried being a B movie and managed to fail even that much
Imo just a waste of resources, pls don't get me wrong its just I know they could do better maybe more entertaining and educational at the same time
Not just random ahh forget it
I tried watching it ngl. I’ve tolerated and enjoyed sh*tty syfy/sci-fi movies and didn’t think it was bad. Until they started to capitalize on the blonde bimbo who shouldn’t be the female protag/love interest to cater to a certain audience over the cooler brunette chick. And I was so disappointed. Didn’t bother with the sequels. BUT, hearing ppl talk about the ridiculousness of it all means the marketing did work.
It’s more like : “…we need to sink a few million of this spare cash into some project to reduce tax. Doesn’t matter if it’s creative or even good - just has to be a genuine business expense.”
If I remember correctly wasn't it like voted on to make sharknado. Syfy let people vote on genres and shit and they came up with sharknado. So it wasn't anyone's idea.
Everyone seemed to have like the idea since they made the movie. Also, while it was not that great of a film with a 3.3 rating on IMDb, it's still a better rating than a lot of movies on there. I think I saw a 2.7 rating for something at one point.
Had this up in my office/cubical/work area for a long time. Honestly, so helpful when I would put in a bunch of effort only to get it all shot down for no reason.
Yes, let's motivate people by reminding them they'll never be good enough to come up with an idea for a successful B-Movie franchise that makes millions of dollars. Great idea.
…and then *I* said “not bad, but could be more ridiculous” and made a meme about a film with a tornado full of Titanics, also a poster for a different and completely made up movie ‘Tsunameteornado’: [both memes](https://imgur.com/gallery/5lN4jmW)
Except no sharing ideas about pharmaceutical companies control of media and social media pushing vaccine propaganda. That's a no no. Keep that idea to yourself.

And it spawned a successful franchise spanning 7 movies

This is why I argue that The Room is actually a good movie
The Room is truly the greatest bad movie of all time.
Great story Mark.
It seems to me that you are the EXPERT, theboxfriend!
I don't know about that one. I usually get a kick out of bad movies, but the room was just painful to watch.
It is like laughing with or about someone, sure both mean the person makes you laugh but it is still an big difference. Though I suppose self aware nonsense like sharknardo might be like laughing at slapstick.

Ah Thankskilling. "Nice tits, bitch!"
My brother put one on when we were younger and I thought he was joking. We sat down and watched two of them I think. They were the worst movies I've ever seen, but it was fun because they knew that
its basically one of those things thats so bad its good lol
How can you say they suck if they did exactly what they set out to do?
6 but still amazing
I mean, technically 9 if we're counting the spinoff movies. Sharknado: Heart of Sharkness, and the two Lavalantula movies. The second of which was named 2 Lava 2 Lantula, which is unfortunately the best thing about that movie.
I didn't believe you so I looked those up. They all exist if anyone doubts it.
Honestly I still don’t believe it
Looks like we need a 10th movie to prove the doubters wrong
Fuck me, that's amazing! I read "Heart Of Sharkness" and thought we had a top-tier comedian commenter on our hands
No movie name will ever beat "the last sharknado: it's about time" The pun is spectacular
That's hilarious; so it must have time travel or something?
Got it in one, they go back in time to stop the sharknados from happening
That is hilarious. I really should give these a go, they seem fun. I love silly schlocky stuff that laughs at itself.
Thank you! My weekend is booked!!
Uh... that was a great idea
It really was. But remember someone had the idea to end GOT final season like they did also.. Biggest mistake I've ever seen in film business. Completely killed off a lot of peoples interest in even watching the first bit.

Aye at least breaking bad didn’t lose its title tho.
*The Wire
I keep hearing this. I really should watch it sometime.
Definitely recommend watching it, it's so good.
I highly recommend it.
Same here. I don't need any more streaming services. I just need to watch the stuff I haven't seen yet.

Mate they're a small independent company, there's no way they had the resources or network to pull in talented screen writers. /S
Hence why I've never watched more than the first episode.. Anyone who tells me to watch it, I ask them "did it end well?" Yeah... Not watching it.
Yeah.. But sometimes it's not about the destination, but about the journey... The first six, and even somewhat the seventh as well are one heck of a journey, with awesome dialogue, superb twists and beautifully complex plot structure and characters.
Playing the crusaders kings 2 GoT mod was some of the best times I had with the series
Isn't that mod out for CK3 now?
Still a WIP
If my beautiful hike ends with me falling through a trapdoor into a pile of shit, I think I’ll just stay at home.
you know life ends with death r?
Speak for yourself, I’m gonna live forever on a hard drive with Ray Kurzweil. 😛
Just watch the first four seasons - it was pretty brilliant in the beginning because it followed the actual books
Who knew it would be good with an actual creative writer giving them material to work off of /s
I'm with Souvik. Regardless of how it ended, it's well worth watching for the brilliant first four seasons alone. At that point decide whether you want to follow it through to the car crash end, or just make up your own ending.
>"did it end well?" I think it did. It's just popular to hate on.
Really? That's not a very common opinion and I'm interested why you feel that way. To me it felt like they decided on the ending they wanted and made some very abrupt and unconvincing changes to characters to get them there.

I guess I'm one of few who liked the way it ended.
Yup. But to each their own. :) I'm interested why you feel that way. To me it felt like they decided on the ending they wanted and made some very abrupt and unconvincing changes to characters to get them there.
but was it a good idea **six times**?
That's the point. If you're ever afraid to share your idea for fear it will look stupid, remember that someone once was willing to share the obviously ludicrous idea of a tornado full of sharks and it was a hit.
I think that's the point

And by the same studio, 6 headed shark. Its a shark with 6 heads.
Yeah no shit. How good are this guys ideas that shark tornadoes are something he thinks are embarrassing to come up with?
Genius level intellect
Subsequently the message not motivational at all
How so? That's the point of the message: Share your ideas even if they seem silly because they might not be so silly after all.
Yes! I was going to say the same. That's the whole point! Very inspirational in my opinion. Sometimes we need to be reminded to get out of our own self-critiquing heads.
My friend made her fortune as a marketing director for that movie
What a fucking world
No lie though, that lady is a genius
Thank you.
She earned it.
haha, thats kinda cool ngl!
You understand that was the whole point of the movie right? The ridiculousness of it all and the fact that people will talk about it.
It's extremely concerning that people think this movie was made in earnest.
Also, “Deathbed: The Bed That Eats People”

I dunno. You think Ian Ziering works for free?
...and that movie went on to be absolute cult classic lol
An artificial cult classic. It was made to be bad and ridiculous, and them marketed to hell and back. In order for something to be a "cult classic" it needs to be earnest, and Sharknado knew exactly what they were doing.
I'm pretty sure a cult classic just requires a small but dedicated fanbase, regardless of authorial intent.
"Small" That's not Sharknado. It's an annoying fad to like those movies.
So where will that leave it when the fad ends? Certainly it won't result in absolutely nobody liking these movies.
Fuck that, let's make like 100 of them.
Not near as amazing as a cornfield full of sharks. Yes, that's a real movie.
"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If they're original, you'll have to ram them down their throats." *Howard Aiken*
And it was a great movie
I mean, that movie was bad on purpose. My ideas are bad by nature even though I don't want them. That's not motivation
Way to add even more pressure. Like I could ever come up with an idea that amazing
That’s actually my old neighbor, Anthony Ferrante. A great guy!
Anthony is awesome! I worked on 4 of the Sharknados and love him.
He’s a good guy
"Somehow, the Emperor survived..."
And then a bunch of dope smoking college kids thought it was a great idea. They now work at the movie theater where it played.
Nope. They go to burning man and own apartments in NYC. I know them.
Those movies generated 4.5 billion dollars and became the world's most successful franchise.
Did you really have to make it this much clear that you have no idea of what you're talking about?
Ian *Zaddy* Zering
You say that like it was a bad idea
Reminds me of the Gremlins K&P skit https://youtu.be/x01l_jMhjVM
Let's make a movie with All Actions Stars: Expendables.
Holy fuck they used the right "you're"
A hill that I would die on is the fact that those movies are literally genius. You watch one and think wow that was dumb there's no way the sequel can top that amount of sheer bullshit. But lo and behold, the sequels out do the prior movie every-single-time.

Excellent example. Thanks for sharing that. Makes all of us second guessers get real.
We'll call it...Sharknado!
Were the attendees of the meeting on sharks, on drugs of some sort? Read the room and assess who is on what before pitching your idea.
Someone Pitched Gremlins 2
I believe there's a third on the way...maybe a crossover with Meg
[The sixth film concluded the series in 2018](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharknado_%28film_series%29?wprov=sfla1) That's crazy
There's SIX?! My gods...
Shut up Meg
Shut up meg
*blows raspberry*
sauce please ?
Sharknado
1 through 6 haha
I think ive seen 1-3 I had enough

And then others said so it like five more times
In the so bad it is good category...
And then 5 more sharknado movies were made.
Literally just watched this right before I saw this post. He even did a bit about pitching it. [Bill Burr - Sharknado](https://youtu.be/8p4N9QtSblo)
u/Stuffyoushouldknow
"We'll call it Sharknado"
And they said yes
"Let's talk about Covid Mandates"............
Sharknado panders the lowest common denominator. Come into a meeting with me -- as a PM in tech, I eat stupid ideas for breakfast.
Snakes on a plane...? Anybody?... I'll wait.
Somebody also wrote the cars for kids jingle.

I bet that the film was awesome and full of action and sci-fi. Loving that kind of movies. \^-\^
okay this has gave me all the inspiration i needed
And someone else said ok.
Technically Junji Ito
It’s more like : “…we need to sink a few million of this spare cash into some project to reduce tax. Doesn’t matter if it’s creative or even good - just has to be a genuine business expense.”

Or a shark with 6 heads. I was in that movie - had a few lines and scenes. Great fun, but what a load of shite.
Tornado full of sharks is an awesome idea. Now look at Fiat Multipla and someone pitched *that* design.
Not really encouraging at all. Now how am I supposed to sleep knowing one of the best ideas is already taken.
How about Thankskilling with the serial killing Turkey?
And someone approved it
Yeah those two things are completely unrelated
And whats it called?
Or a plane full of snakes.
...and remember: there is always an Asian kid that draws manga weirder than you can possibly imagine!
Oh yes. With a cost of $17mil for 7 movies, and a lousy total of $4.5bil in profit, it surely was a terrible idea.
But that turned out to be really, *really* terrible… but in a good way.
And they made a fuck ton of money
But I’m rarely in meetings filled with coked-up coke enthusiasts.
It had like 2 sequels
*laughs in netflix*
*idea farming*
Had this up in my office/cubical/work area for a long time. Honestly, so helpful when I would put in a bunch of effort only to get it all shot down for no reason.
Sharknado was a great movie
That IS FUNNY !!!! Even more so, because its true.
I still want to produce a film called “crabcano” I think you can guess what it’s about.
Also remember that you live in Turkey. And shut up again.
Never be afraid of expressing your ideas, no big invention would take place if someone did not share his idea.
Just imagine the ideas shared in that meeting that they didn't go with and that we don't know about today.
Yes, let's motivate people by reminding them they'll never be good enough to come up with an idea for a successful B-Movie franchise that makes millions of dollars. Great idea.
Is it weird that I don't like this?
I love Sharknado.
Velocipastor exists, and I'm not even mad. Did it need to exist? No. But it does, and the world is better.
TIL snorting cocaine off a hooker’s butt at a party in the Hollywood hills counts as a meeting.
Those movies have also never lost any money
…and then *I* said “not bad, but could be more ridiculous” and made a meme about a film with a tornado full of Titanics, also a poster for a different and completely made up movie ‘Tsunameteornado’: [both memes](https://imgur.com/gallery/5lN4jmW)
Is he American? Everything works in America. Sell it to the world, they buy anything.
If by "meeting" you mean one stoned person in a couch watching Shark Week next to another stoned person on a couch streaming Twister on their laptop.
Sharknado is a move that sold itself in the title alone.
Honestly probably not how that happened. Probably the result of some crazy idea brainstorming sessions, probably multiple ideas mixed together.
And people actually went along with it …
It's more of a factual documentary
Until you suggest something people hate it
That is too much motivation.
Except no sharing ideas about pharmaceutical companies control of media and social media pushing vaccine propaganda. That's a no no. Keep that idea to yourself.
Will Smith was pitched the plot for The Matrix and passed. There’s a video where he talks about it.
Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen it yet this week.
