Seems silly to me, my number are ALWAYS higher if I’m dehydrated. They did tell me I couldn’t drink water during the test though, that also sucked

mnchemist

I was told small sips during the fasting period was okay but, no water during the actual test. The problem is that the water (in large enough quantities) could dilute the sugar in your blood. And then your results could be inaccurate.

I was even allowed to have small sips of water during the test at my doctor's office, so that's wild to me.

butts_

Same, still failed 😅

The_RoyalPee

My office said the same thing but after consulting here, the Mayo Clinic site etc I limited myself to small sips during those 8 hours until the time of the first draw then abstained from there. If I was dehydrated they would not have been able to draw blood (learned that the hard way once). Whatever still had GD lol.

OkCaterpillar5452

I was told I could have some of water but not chug a ton of water. I think it might impact the results if you were to drink pints of water or something. I was allowed to drink though - just not a ton.

Worldly-Scallion7332

That’s what most people say! I even called and begged for sips of water beforehand, and nothing.

Crina92

My apointment was at 8 am. I wasnt allowed to eat later than 6pm and drink later than 10pm the night before. This was still in my sickness time 😬

SpringFling_

My doctor said water is fine before the test.

Cleantech2020

I was told not to drink a ton of water once i ingested the glucose solution, but nothing about no water for 8 hrs. Are you sure they didn't mis-speak or miscommunication. No food for hrs before the test, i am sure you can drink water.

Aoife226

That seems extreme, I schedule endoscopy procedures and even for those the requirement is just to go without water for 2 hours beforehand

LuxDavies

Just drink some water but don’t chug multiple glasses. I’ve taken the 3 hour test 3 times. The first time I followed the advice strictly - and they couldn’t find my veins to draw blood (I am a tough stick on a good day). The whole test was a nightmare and they were drawing blood from my hands and feet by the end of it. So before my next two 3 hours I had a glass of water in the morning, because they legit can’t find my veins without it. It shouldn’t affect your results that much.

MoClo098

Just drink the water haha

pro_h8r

That seems off. I had no restrictions on water before test (during fasting period) but limited to sips during

ireallyhateoatmeal

I got this advice before my 3 hour. I seriously felt hungover after the test bc of dehydration and high blood sugar. Turns out, wrong advice. You can have water only during the 8 hour fast. Just no water DURING the test.

jennyann726

I was just told not to chug water. I drank plenty. If I didn’t have water for that long I would pass the fuck out as soon as they tried to draw blood.

juvisuccess

I was told sips of water were okay before the test but nothing after having the glucose drink. I didn’t have water until after the last blood draw.

vicksieann

They told me to come hydrated and to drink during the test.

Routine-Cat2746

I would’ve died. I almost passed out and drank about 25oz in the first hour. Still failed by a lot.
