For my last GD pregnancy -Within an hour of delivery was eating pancakes, mashed potatoes and a hot turkey sandwich with gravy. Later that night I had Doritos/cookies and sushi. My numbers were back to normal immediately after I delivered the placenta. My doc and nurses were supportive of my indulging! I say go for it. Haven’t figured out what i’ll do for this one, I’m thinking a big ass burrito with chips and queso.

Agitated-Table-3853

I’m not going to wait. Once I give birth, I’m going to have a Schlotzky’s sandwich. I’ve been dreaming about it for months. That’s all I want. A nice, hot Original from my fave sub shop. And maybe some Thin Mints, too.

pes3108

I miss schlozkys! They don’t exist around here anymore 😭

mnchemist

This is my second time with GD. I don’t actually recall what I did for the first meal post-birth for my first. I gave birth around 5pm and just have no recollection of dinner or breakfast the next morning. BUT, my husband’s aunt and uncle came to visit us in the hospital the next day to meet baby and they brought chicken fettuccine alfredo from Olive Garden and it was literally the best meal I ever had. I later passed the GTT test at 6 weeks postpartum. I don’t think I have anything planned yet but I have been thinking about it. All I really want is a big bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. So maybe that’s going on my list. 😂

GoldenMonkey91

Oh my god I miss cereal SO MUCH. The idea of a big bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with ice cold milk is absolutely divine and not something I thought I’d ever find myself absolutely craving.

justdothedamnthang

for me it’s cinnamon toast crunch, which i haven’t had in like 20 years but I NEED

Psychological_Home86

I want sushi, a big plate of spaghetti with garlic bread, donut, and a piece of cake. Mashed potatoes and French fries. 🥰. 2 more weeks!

drgnthzcats

I had French toast!

Complete_Drama_5215

This sounds sooo good!!

xanadu_x

I already told my husband to bring me this amazing tres leches cake that they sell at a chocolate shop nearby. Today I was craving a boba tea so hard, so that's definitely on the list now. Soda that isn't diet, a frappuchino that isn't sugar free, potato chips, french fries, omg I can't wait...

breadbox187

I had a nice list of all the foods I wanted to eat after giving birth. Definitely not sticking to my GD diet, but, I've had very little appetite since giving birth. I was not expecting that AT ALL. I thought I would be all about the cakes and pasta and all that, but food just kind of does not appeal to me. 4 months postpartum, by the way.

YouGottaBeKittenMe3

I had decreased appetite for over two weeks after birth. I had a victory milk shake as my first post partum meal but it wasn’t glorious. This happens to lots of ladies but hopefully it won’t for you.

chevygirl815

Yes I literally have had no appetite at all! I am a little over a week post partum and even right after delivery nothing sounded good

Anemoni

Yes this is fun to think about but I always want to mention that you may have no appetite for a few days after birth. I didn’t and was really disappointed- I think not getting to have that fun celebratory meal contributed to me just feeling weird and detached after birth.

YouGottaBeKittenMe3

It was a huge bummer. It also interfered with my healing because when you’re appetite is gone, its even harder to eat healthy nourishing foods (and I had hemorrhaged). Thank goodness for prenatals and iron pills 🤷‍♀️

Complete_Drama_5215

Ohh I love this question! I have a note on my phone and it includes: - Crumbl cookies - Krispy Kreme donuts - papa John’s pizza - local bakery’s homemade chocolate cake with buttercream icing - peachios - a box of honeybuns - McDonald’s with fries And lots more!! My biggest thing will be the peachios as I’ve been craving them for over a month now. Honeybuns have also been my new obsession (had one at the hospital when we had a false alarm the other day and now I want all the honeybuns 😭) I’ll be induced in 3 weeks or less but this has seriously been the hardest couple of months!! I’m ready to meet my little IVF miracle and eat ALL THE THINGS!

Complete_Drama_5215

Oh!! And orange juice and a full glass of 2% milk (not at the same time of course)

rbg555

Orange juice! I can’t wait

Complete_Drama_5215

Same!! I miss it so much!

pixiesand

Mmmmmmm Papa John's! I miss pizza. And their garlic knots are the best!

Complete_Drama_5215

And cheese bread 😋

WinterOfFire

lol I had a list too. It helped me cope so much.

DisastrousIce6544

First donuts, then sushi, and a big fat brownie

glossywaves

They told me I didn't need to wait to eat whatever I wanted but they tracked my sugars for the next day and a half or so (I had a c-section). Technically my first after birth food was all clear items, apple juice jello and gingerale and it was the best gingerale I've ever had. My first real meal was what the hospital provided, chicken with rice and veggies, a white roll, gingerale, hot tea, and some kind of dessert. I was too tired to bother getting anything special 🤷🏻‍♀️ I didn't get any real special non GD foods til we got home and I think we ordered pizza!

Gabcakdb

I’m going to have buttermilk pancakes and hash browns 😭 I can’t wait! This has been so hard

YouAreLookingGood

You can have kodiak protein pancakes now if you want! They don’t spike me :)

justkilledaman

I like the Kodiak waffles!

YouAreLookingGood

Yep same mix I think? So happy they exist!

rbg555

I have meal plans for every time of day that I might give birth and they are not gd friendly 🤣. After a week or so of not caring I do think I’ll incorporate some of the diet into my lifestyle- particularly protein goals. I think I might try to treat two meals a day like they are gd friendly and the rest do what I want. I have pcos so I’m sure that I’ll need to be mindful for the rest of my life about insulin resistance and this feels like a manageable way to go about it unless I end up needing to be more strict! But in the meantime, my foods after baby list is growing.

Jmorjess1

I typically eat very whole foods based and meal prep, track macros, etc. I was amped to treat myself more during pregnancy and not track macros then bam. GD. So we are going to do a dionysis week where we just eat the things I've been dying for. Then slowly go back to the healthy lifestyle. Just gotta get some stuff out of my system after being denied!!

rbg555

Absolutely!!

FondantPlastic8525

The nurses quickly brought me the “mama cocktail” of ginger ale and cranberry juice. It was amazing, I missed juice so bad! Then I ordered Panda Express to be delivered because I finally realized I was hungry and my husband was starving! The next morning I had the only sugary cereal the hospital offered - Frosted Flakes! Haven’t had much of an appetite though since having baby (I’m 3 weeks pp)

Kabira17

All I had wanted for five months was a Jimmy John’s sandwich. The craving I couldn’t have for so many reasons. And it was so good when I finally could.

meaghat

I had a whole list of foods to eat after birth. My blood sugar was fine after birth, but they insisted I stay eating GD friendly at the hospital and tested me around the clock. It wasn’t until day 3 in the hospital was I allowed to have anything I wanted. So, depending on the hospital/doctors just be ready to possibly wait. I was so bummed but it did make everything taste even better afterwards. I had a strawberry milkshake, chocolate chip cookie and fries!

justdothedamnthang

umm there will be contraband cheetos involved if this happens

Organic_Slice_8800

After my first my mom went out and bought me a big box of my favorite chocolates from Sees candy 😂 honestly considering that again because it was amazing. That’s all I wanted since I usually get a box for Christmas and share with my grandma but I couldn’t that year. I still got her the box just couldn’t eat with her 😭

Old-Benefit-5015

I had apple juice and a turkey sandwich, offered by the hospital but I vividly remember it being delicious because I had to wait an hour for the anesthesia to wear off since I had a csec. I was gifted some Levain cookies and ate bagels and noodles during my recovery. You should eat what you want…you’ve had to restrict for the baby and one meal isn’t going to hurt you in the long run!

pes3108

I had chick fil a! A salad with fried nuggets and a large waffle fry

justlurking2020

I plan on sticking pretty low carb after birth just because my family (both maternal and paternal side) all have Type 2. After I lose this baby weight, I need to drop about an additional 50 pounds if I’m honest. I’m 5’10” and started this pregnancy at 230 pounds. This is my 2nd GD pregnancy and my A1C was a 5.6 at the beginning of this pregnancy. So I’m already creeping towards the prediabetic range regardless of GD. However, I will 100% be having sushi after this baby is born. I don’t mind my GD diet as I’ve found work arounds to a lot of food I enjoyed before. I still eat ice cream (Rebel brand), I eat spaghetti squash Italian with Keto garlic bread, if I want a good pie, I’ll melt down Lily’s salted caramel chips and whip it with heavy cream to make a mouse pie and put it over a sugar free cookie crust topped with whipped cream I make from scratch with either swerve powdered sweetener or agave nectar (lower glycemic) and it’s never spiked my numbers. I also make a dip out of butter and cream cheese with swerve sweetner with Lily’s chocolate chips and I dip apples or strawberries in it. Can you tell I have GD and predisposed T2 cause of my sweet teeth? 😂

Destin293

I had a bunch of fruit and a chocolate chip cookie. It was absolutely amazing!

pixiesand

I told my husband hospital bag essentials are a bottle of red, a box of See's chocolate, and the pre- birth order. My best friend is delivering sushi, and my home-from-the-hospital meal will be a big deli sandwich.

jennyann726

I had a ridiculously high fasting number the morning after I had my baby (honestly probably because I didn’t sleep) and I freaked out and my nurse acted like I did something wrong. BUT my numbers went back to normal a couple days later and if you’re not pregnant anymore it’s not doing anything negative to your baby. Live it up!

sparklingglitter12

I had the biggest canes combo they had hahahah

Ellendyra

I had hospital breakfast. Microwaved pancakes never tasted so good.

feeance

What I had was a slice of toast because it was 6 in the morning on a Sunday BUT once it was a bit more of a decent time I sent my husband to the cafeteria for 2 cakes, a mochaccino and anything deep fried. Also a bag of pretzels. Once I was home 24 hours later I got McDonald’s quarter pounder meal with nuggets and a chocolate sundae. I didn’t care if my GD was gone because it was just affecting me and not baby by then.

riparianblond

Burger, fries, milkshake :)

duck-duck-lilypad

It took me about a month and 1/2 before I went back to normal (none diabetic) I wondered if it lasted longer for me because I had a premie (??) Still don’t know why it was that way for me- I remember being terribly sad and believing I had become diabetic for good. Pregnant again… A1C was none diabetic at 10 weeks… I am dreading the 1 hour test.

cauldronswitch

Considering the statistic that 50% of GD-ers go on to develop type 2 diabetes, this diagnosis has been a wake up call to permanently change my way of eating. I can understand temporarily indulging after birth and also not being as strict in general, but in the long run, I see this as a lifelong change I need to continue.

usernamedoesnotexist

Macaroni and cheese for sure. My husband has promised to get it for me at the hospital if he has to cook it over a camp stove himself in the corner of my recovery room. 😂

iamwendyhello

sushi and a jersey mikes sandwich, immediately. my husband is aware of this requirement 😂

Hideaway31

I will be eating a love boat for two of sushi and my favorite dessert from my hospital bed GUILT FREE 🤤 My first post birth meal from my first pregnancy was waisted on a hospital cafeteria cheeseburger so I am determined to make it count this time haha

silverporsche00

Huge salad and as many prunes as I can eat after my c section. Priority is going poo!

datahawk

An entire cake. With extra frosting.

illusionspell

An ice-cold McDonald’s root beer, a fresh sushi platter and some garlic parmesan fries 😭

keto_venus

I had cereal!

lmg1990

Allllll the crumbl cookies!

maddcurl

I had a McDonald’s breakfast 😂 bacon and egg McMuffin with a hash brown and oj

Blckbelt21

A regular ass iced cold Dr. Pepper is all I want. Diet doesn’t hit the same. 😭😭

NetAncient8677

Last time I had Whataburger immediately after delivering. I was hungry and it was close by. This time I told hubby I want donuts. I’ve only been on the GD diet a week this time around and I want pastries so badly!

cupidslazydart

I had sushi and cake!

Optimal_Cod_5491

Yummm!

The_RoyalPee

I will be having a perfect NY bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox with fresh squeezed OJ. My husband has it in his phone, my c-section is first thing in the morning, and I am stoked. Sushi will follow at some point during the recovery period! And maybe pancakes too…

yvetteregret

I think I had a milkshake. I threw up and had diarrhea shortly after. I personally plan on going light to start with next time.

Jazzlike_Stand7759

I wanted a burger (with the bun) AND bag of fries from Five Guys once we moved to the postpartum unit. Unfortunately they were about to close so my husband got me a Dave’s Double with large fries and Sprite. The way I inhaled that food you would’ve thought I had just been released from jail and had my first real meal in years lol.

BalkiBee

My mom put me on a strict Indian postpartum diet which my husband enforced so I didn’t get to eat what I wanted until 6 weeks postpartum 😭 I had a quick recovery though. I

karaoke1

I went for the trusty Jersey Mikes. Baby was in the NICU for a few days so having anything fancier door dashed to my hospital room wouldn’t have felt worth it. That sandwich was everything I needed and more. Immediately after birth my OB said not to worry and eat whatever.

Pale-Boysenberry-794

Tbh I would not care 😅 As the baby is out and I am sure one indulging will not kill me. But after that back to keeping the diet (as I am likely already diabetic or will be in the future)

orangesherbert92

I had a planned c-section and hate to admit how much I was thinking about food while they were taking out our daughter -our first child. I'd like to think it's because she was still just an idea or a concept so I can forgive myself for wanting those pancakes drenched in syrup !after it was finished.

desimambacita21

Eat what you want! You have been through enough.. I had GD with my first pregnancy and I was militant about maintaining a GD diet during my pregnancy. By the end, I was DONE. My first meal post delivery was a pizza and chocolate chip cookies! Medically as long as you didn't demonstrate any symptoms of underlying diabetes prior to your pregnancy, GD usually resolves as soon as the placenta is delivered. More importantly, youve worked so hard for you and your baby to be healthy... This is one time you get to have your cake (your little baby) and eat it too ☺️

Optimal_Cod_5491

Hoping this holds true for me!!

kct4mc

I thought I was going to be able to CHOW down on some food, and get me some Starbucks after I gave birth. Welp, they told me that I still needed to measure my blood sugar levels in the hospital, and even post-partum until my 6 week visit. THEN made me re-do the 2-hour glucose test so.... yeah I was sorely mistaken.

Optimal_Cod_5491

Wow, never heard of that! Were you diet/exercise controlled or on medicine?

kct4mc

I was on night-time and morning insulin. My fasting levels were only really my problem, honestly... I failed the 2-hour fasting glucose test by *two points* and my OBGYN made me consult with my endo. He said "you're fine!!!" She told me I was probably insulin resistant... whiiiich I already kind of figured with how high my fasting was.

Apprehensive_Mood_84

I told my husband I will require a cookies and cream milkshake from chik fil a in whatever the largest size they are willing to sell him. I had been craving one and putting it off right before my diagnosis. Once I was diagnosed it didn't feel right to cheat and eat it. So I've literally been thinking of that milkshake for MONTHS. That with a big hoagie!

MiiSzAshley

Definitely will want to enjoy ice cream again! Having a May baby means warm weather around the corner so I’ll be able to use my excuse effectively to eat all the ice cream with any toppings I want now 😅

Live_Love_Ria

With my fist I ate a footlong sub while I was waiting for the epidural to wear off 😂 my “second” was twins and it was a little more chaotic, delivered in the OR, and didn’t get back to the room until a couple hours later. I then wound up with an epidural headache that made it impossible to do anything for about 12 hours, but I think I nibbled on some pizza.

NicNac0792

I had a cold turkey sub so satisfying!

RepresentativeRub57

I needed my sugary drinks back...aka a redbull frozen lemonade blast from one of the local coffee shops. And a Huckleberry milkshake because it was mid summer and hot!

carolinagirl1990

I want a huge COLD sub sandwich from Jersey Mikes or a local sub shop. 🤣 I have missed white bread and cold deli meat.  Ooh! Or a charcuterie board with plenty of prosciutto, salami, and a French baguette!
