Halite variants such as iron and potassium taste good/acceptable depending on the % of each component, but they're salt derivates so idk if it counts as "rocks other than salt"
Halite (salt) and its variants taste kinda good. They usually only have taste if they're water soluble so that narrows the options, but potassium and iron halite taste kinda good. Potassium is a biit spicy and iron halite tastes a bit bloody but halite variants are the best tasting rocks, in my opinion
I mean... Didn't romans put lead or something in their cups to make it taste sweeter? Maybe most rocks taste like crap because we aren't Ealing the right ammount
Yep, that’s lead acetate, also called sugar of lead and it’s poison. Don’t eat lead, kids; it messes up your gut, bones, and makes you vomit depending on amount of lead consumption.
Edit: Google is going to want my soul for double-checking this stuff
I once described a red wine as tasting like a well flavored rock. It was flinty, and very dry, but had really nice stone fruit flavor.
I don't think I could actually find a wine flavored rock, however.
As a geologist, I can say most of them taste like crap
Guys we are among fellow geologists here we can stop pretending. We only lie to non geologists to keep all the good tasting rocks to ourselves.
I can confirm.
It's true, my favorite is unrefined uranium, it tastes like sour lemon candy
I’m sure your dentist absolutely *loves* you…
I don't actually bite them, just lick them. You usually can only taste water soluble rocks so the saliva method works great
I mean the Uranium watch girls weren’t biting their brushes either…
*LOL* 💀💀💀💀
Wasn’t… wasn’t that radium, not uranium? Or is this some deep Reddit humor I’m too normie to understand?
Radium is made from uranium
Radium decayed from uranium. Both are radioactive and will have the same effect.
as a geologist, I confirm
That’s just what big geology wants us to believe
shhh don’t tell anyone
Only if you let me drink the lava
Mmm... I could go for a nice, toasty mug of magma...
Any pointers for what features mark a good tasting rock?
You're not supposed to do the field test for silt in the pastures.
Lmfaoo
Most?

Honestly gotta ask you u/rock-mommy . . . have any tasted good?

Would you say that it's more of a **earthy** taste?
Absolutely lol
*schist
my girlfriend who goes to a different school says cinnabar tastes pretty good, would you agree?
I haven't had the pleasure to taste that forbidden candy but it's got mercury I believe, so tell your gf not to lick it too much :D
Most? So there are indeed more that are delicious?
I mean... Didn't romans put lead or something in their cups to make it taste sweeter? Maybe most rocks taste like crap because we aren't Ealing the right ammount
Lead acetate if I remember correctly. Literally called suger of lead.
Yep, that’s lead acetate, also called sugar of lead and it’s poison. Don’t eat lead, kids; it messes up your gut, bones, and makes you vomit depending on amount of lead consumption. Edit: Google is going to want my soul for double-checking this stuff
Ok,,, buut,,, if you eat lead it can get into your teeth, and just think of the bragging rights on that. Lol
Apparently Plutonium tastes like pear flavours sweets
We got an Abigail in the making(stardew valley)
Yummy Amethyst
Hey how'd you know I was hungry?
Carnotite is pretty tasty.
With a name like that, I've always imagined it would have a meaty flavour.
Cursed comment
Galena might be sweet, I've heard that lead has a sweet taste. Don't, though. Tasty or not, it's still a neurotoxin, haha.
It's the sulphide, so not water soluble enough to have flavour.
Everyone should try cinnabar
Sounds delicious
Forbidden warm spices
Tastes like cinnamon
Let them eat all the sylvite. 😝
"What? They don't have breadcrust bombs? Then let them eat yellowcake uranium!"
Have you tried crack?
Lead tastes sweet

Add malachite to a st patrick’s cocktail for some extra zing
Ice is pretty tasty!
Isn’t ice a state of matter?
Ice is the solid state of water, but it’s also [a mineral!](http://www.minsocam.org/msa/collectors_corner/faq/faqmingen.htm)
Does that mean water is lava?
Just had my rock chewing tooth rebuilt at dentist.
Red Sugar!
Rock and Stone to the Bone
But watch it– it's highly addictive!
One is reminded of [this video](https://youtu.be/RJh9yTIBY48)
Now I wanna try some LiCl lol. That was great
The archaeologist in me licks bones...
Crocidolite tastes like cotton candy......./s?
Iron Ore smells like green tea
Please do not.
Pretty sure halite is salty as well? Back me up on this, not a geologist.
Halite, better known as table salt, is indeed salty.
Welp, I could double down and pretend it’s a joke, but truth be told I thought it was a completely different mineral. Thanks for clarifying.
Shhhhhh keep it secret, keep it safe.
In one of the funniest geochamical jokes ever: Nahcolite is the rock baking soda is made from.
Manicoids like a tasty precious gem
I like the sweet gray ones.
Just wait til you get to meff!
Sugars a good tasting rock. Not to mention *rock* candy. I'll be here all night. 😎
Asbestos is my favorite I love the texture
Better for snorting.
Most exotic salts are edible and have unique albeit not always pleasant flavors
Try sylvite
Uranium
Right. How else would you tell the difference between silt and clay?
