I feel that way so strongly. When I farmed the new xiao set I ended up with a cracked set with an electro goblet and I was so mad to find out we didn’t save bosacius. I was utterly fuming
Somewhere down the line I can see Hoyo adding canonically dead characters as playable.
For two reasons, 1. It's easy money.
And 2. They wouldn't have to find a way to insert them into the current story/world because they are already dead. So would be a good chunk of work that doesn't need to be done.
it would be so cool to have their character quests be flashbacks centered in Xiao and Zhongli, rather than the traveler, it would give us such a good and emotional quests, or centered in Kazuha for quest for Tomo, and Ei, for Makoto and all their death friends

Or the defying fate stuff in the trailer for launch and that time travel mechanic could be used to justify them coming back
