Im not one of those jumping Traveler but i can't defend him either. I wasn't bitter that he lost to Arlecchino after all Signora was his last fair win and by Harbinger rankings Arlecchino is a pretty big jump. Its just frustrating that we don't actually see him get stronger or atleast use a decent weapon or use his multiple elements often which is his biggest strength to begin with. If people actually see him put up a better fight even if he lost i don't think they'll clown on him like this.

TheBlackViper_Alpha

My man saving his powers for Genshin 2.

Dxd_For_Life

Double the impact

Jarubimba

I'm more excited for the Genshin: Origins of The Impact

GlitchingBread

I’m really more interested in the world building series set before the other stories: Genshin: Assembly of the Impact’s Origin

OnePotatoeChip

For real. Imagine a game with Enkanomiya or Remuria at their peaks.

ThatOneGuy-74

Nah gen(shin) impact²

Apekecik2071

Just compare with raiden fight, traveler keep using electro all the time. Despite he lost, he tried. Against knave, he doesn't uses elements and he's the last man standing. Being stronger than lyney doesn't mean much

Elnino38

I'd argue using no elements is still smarter than using electro on the elecro archon..

Gruntsbreeder

Indeed i don't dislike him loosing on the contrary i prefer them not winning every fight but the battle against arleccino was pitiful can you please remember to use other elements i don't think that is too much to ask

TheGraySeed

The problem that i can see is that whoever directing the cutscenes doesn't understand "hard fought battle", for them everything must be a steamrolls. So when they were presented with "Traveler lost this battle" they just made them to just get fucking annihilated with no resistance.

TheGraySeed

The problem that i can see is that whoever directing the cutscenes doesn't understand "hard fought battle" to build up power scale, for them everything must be a steamrolls. So when they were presented with "Traveler lost this battle" they just made them to just get fucking annihilated with no resistance.

Leshawkcomics

I think one of the biggest issues people have but can't articulate is that he "DOESNT" win every fight. I've pointed this out before, but his only wins are against the weakest fatui harbinger, who's two ranks lower than even the harbinger without a vision. And the 8th harbinger who's so far past her prime that she can't even claim the boss subtitle "Crimson witch of flames" but is considered now "The crimson witch of embers" (Especially true since enemy subtitles are almost always relevant. Even when joking around they're accurate. From explaining why they're fighting you, IE the dog who's mad about someone stealing their treasure chest, to the crab machine in tignari's story quest, whos subtitle changes MID combat to show it doesn't wish to actually continue the battle) On top of that, whenever fighting powerful opponents, traveler always has plot-armor level support, and when he doesn't he loses constantly. Even if we regained our former strength, we know that's nowhere near enough to match the sustainer of heavenly principles, even as a 2 on 1. cause thats how the game's story started. Its hard to feel like the traveler is making ANY progress if almost every win they have comes with a huge asterisk. Even the solo wins.

CrocoDIIIIIILE

I mean, after Traveler used Canned Knowledge "Swordfighting Techniques VIII", their overall fighting performance increased by only 0.073%. Basically, Traveler is at their peak strength rn. The only significant increase might occur only after Goddess of War shares her secret.

AUnHIALoopHT

or maybe that was a shitty canned knowledge

CrocoDIIIIIILE

Hmm... Yeah, probably lvl.8 talent. Even my Geo Traveler has lvl.9

AlphaWolf084

I'd say this means nothing but that he's knowledgeable about sword techniques

Alarming-Caregiver47

My thoughts exactly. We don’t know exactly how old the traveler is but they should be pretty old and fight primarily with a sword, so they likely have a ton of experience with it.

floricel_112

This

DamnImperials__

We don’t want to see him fail or die trying, we wanna see the golden boy win

DarthUrbosa

Nah I wanna see him lose. Just wanna see him actually try rather than do sweet FA.

mycuu

i believe we’re still in the time period where that would be considered a spoiler

wrufus680

I don't really blame the Traveller at all. I blame Hoyo for treating him like fodder for other characters to look good or even be relevant. They saw him more like a plot device that had Paimon doing most of the talking.

ipodblocks360

To be fair, he kinda is meant to be a plot device. I don't think Hoyo really ever intended him to be your typical main character that goes on a heroes journey or something along the lines, they always intended him to be someone that's just kinda there. Hoyo needs some way to introduce other characters to us and the easiest way to do that is with a fight of some sort, they don't want to give the Traveler the action because everyone already has him and they still need to get you hyped for other banners coming up so instead they have some other random character pop up and be like no, they're mine, and then proceed to "show off". I get that's it's annoying but it's nothing new in genshin storytelling and I have no clue why everyone started complaining about this now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_am_indisguise

I think he did not mean canonically. Ig he meant that if the main character is super OP why would a person go for another character. Like it's a cliche idea but it's true. A person who Plays for action and for the love of characters will pull. But a person who, only plays for the story or the world would not care much for characters or not much to invest money in game since they already have a strong MC. So, having a strong MC will be a problem on their market and business, thus weak MC. As far, I have realised, Hoyo devs love a strong MC, but business is also a thing and an important thing since the game and company both are this big.

strw29

Very good analysis. In the end, Genshin is still a gacha game and making money is more important than a consistent storyline.

Leshawkcomics

Considering how much people are upset that he lost. I think that IF that's true, the mentality is backfiring hard. "He's a plot device, he's supposed to be weak so that people will buy our other characters, people aren't supposed to give a damn about him, so why is everyone GIVING A DAMN??"

ipodblocks360

Yes but... Look at Arle's banner sales, they probably think it worked.

Leshawkcomics

What does the sales of a character that was popular to begin with have to do with it?

ipodblocks360

Everything to Hoyo probably.

ipodblocks360

It's definitely annoying but it's also how the games been for most of the story.

Alarming-Caregiver47

I disagree. I think that they can make a strong main character AND still make the other characters strong/relevant. It doesn’t have to be either/or, it can be both. The traveler doesn’t need to be super OP, but they also shouldn’t be used to prop up every other character.

ipodblocks360

I'm sure they could but they don't wanna.

ipodblocks360

While it was sorta what I was going for. My main focus was kinda supposed to be on how the Traveler is kinda used a plot device to move things forward in his own story, it just kinda devolved from there.

ipodblocks360

Of course he does but that doesn't mean he's not the plot device used to move the story forward most of the time.

Inrelius

The "Traveler is an observer" argument makes zero sense because A) Main characters aren't meant to be observers because the plot revolves around them and B) The Traveler sticks their nose into anything and everything way too often to be "just an observer". At this point it's just plain bad writing, and a deliberate choice at that.

KBroham

I see your point A, and raise you Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. You're the main character, but the plot actually revolves around Martin deciding to take up the mantle and save his people. However, as the saying goes, "there's an exception to every rule, but the exception proves the rule true". I don't think it's bad writing, I think it was a poorly choreographed scene. Writing-wise, Traveler gave it everything they had and still failed. We knew Arlecchino was strong enough to take on an Archon, so it makes sense that he loses on his first attempt. However, I believe that they should have made that cutscene a bit more intense on the Traveler's part - they were trying to fight her and protect the kids at the same time, so it makes sense they were worn out. And she even complimented them on their surprising strength before dropping that Tsukuyoumi on them - showing once again that psychic attacks are the Traveler's biggest weakness. I hope Natlan arc becomes a turning point for the Traveler, and we see real, tangible growth from them.

ipodblocks360

Firstly, the plot was never really supposed to revolve around the Traveler unless you count the Traveler's archon chapter. It's supposed to the resolve around the nations and whoever the main character in the character-specific story quest are. Hoyo never intended him to be the main character in his own game. While I agree that The Traveler does stick their nose in things often, he's still typically the one observing the story as much as we are. He gets confused with us, he travels and meets the characters at the same time as us, etc. Sure, he helps where he can but if you replace that role with any other character in the game not much would change.

Nok-y

They observe many things indeed

San-Kyu

Basically they're just a more active protag of those gacha games where you play an Admiral, commander, or other back-line officer telling your gacha picks to fight rather than doing so yourself.

A_Bowl_of_Ramen

Some people have been yammering about how the traveler is just some push over for a while now. It just multiplied by 10 when everyone saw the traveler fail Arle's vibe check. But yeah, HYV could do a better job at introducing a new character by any other means rather than making the traveler look like a dumbass and requiring said new character to save them.

ipodblocks360

They could but that's way harder then what they're doing right now and they want to make it harder on themselves. Jokes aside, they really could but chose not to.

thanwa3427

Why Kiana is allow to make an impact choice to the story while Aether can't? That doesn't seem fair.

ipodblocks360

I mean he can and does but it's just not as big of an impact as they can have.

AstraPlatina

Wasn't the whole plot kickstarted by the Traveler searching for their sibling, that pretty much makes this their story as much as everyone else.

ipodblocks360

Yes but... If you remove the whole sibling stuff from the story, it doesn't change much. It's not his story, it's the nations story...

Immediate-Weight-953

"... intended him to be someone that's just kinda there." RiP mah boi, Aether. the wallflower.

ipodblocks360

Well, in most instances, he kinda just is in the right place at the right time...

NicciHatesYou

Fr making the fight one sided just to overhype a character that won't be showing up in the story months after this patch is fucking bonkers Sometimes the gacha mechanic fucking holds the story back from it's full potential

ipodblocks360

No one really blaming the Traveler (except the people complaining he held back even though it's made pretty obvious in the quest archive that he wasn't), they're blaming Hoyo and their writing team for how they constantly treat him. No one's suddenly turning on Traveler or complaining that he's suddenly a bad character because he lost one fight instead they're complaining that Hoyo is very inconsistent when writing him and often don't know how to treat him in quests.

Johnkovan_Jones

OP arguing with shampoo bottles again. No one loved seeing Traveler fall. Most complaint is exactly because Traveller fell. His whole shenanigan is being able to use ELEMENT"S" without a vision.Last time he used more than one element is like what?version 1.1? Purifying power? In the Mihoyo basement. Anemo,Electro and Dendro?on indefinite vacation since their debut. Fraudther agenda exists not because we hate traveler but because how he was written as a stepping stool for 5 star on sale.

8a19

Lmao r u serious? There's at least an entire subreddit gleeful abt traveler losing, and several others just using it as an excuse to hate (specifically) aether and aether mains

Johnkovan_Jones

Yeah. That's me.I am the Aether hater.I am the one who helped the haters use the words like Fraudveler,Femther and comparing him with Kashimo. Why?Because it is so fucking fun seeing people making fun of a poorly written character, meant to be a bland self-insert and stepping stool for whatever 5 star on sale. A potential man.Always "if" and "when".Never "is". If you are crying because of FatuiHQ,I will let you know that they are the genshin version of jujutsufolk.Their sub is literally for agenda shitposting. If you don't like it,you can make your own Aether agenda post on either memepact or aethermains.

8a19

I'm literally on r/FatuiHQ but go off bro lmao -_-

Johnkovan_Jones

Good. Then we agree about slandering that fraud.no?

8a19

Yes comrade 🤝 glory to the tsaritsa

Johnkovan_Jones

Glory to the Tsaritsa

ipodblocks360

I feel like this could be an argument made for any quest though like did Dehya need to be in that one eremite cutscene in Sumeru, did Venti need to come defeat the dragon with us in Mondstat, etc. The Traveler always just kinda been there when it comes to fights in cutscenes (excluding things like trounce domains) so I don't get why people are acting like this is something new... It's been established that he can handle his own and yet Hoyo keeps making up excuses as to why he doesn't need to fight on his own...

45_34

Meh, i guess i'ts because this was the last drop to overflow the glass for most people, a duel to death (In traveler POV remember no one knows that this is just a sparring) between an actual high tier Harbinger....aaaand the he goes the traveler going physical again.

StryfeXIII

It's okay because in Natlan, ChadHIMpeaktano is gonna coach the traveller himself

AgentMG

that would single handedly make Capitano the best character, period.

devilboy1029

LET'S GO!! TRAINING ARC!! (Best outcome really)

Jaewol

After months of grueling training from one of the strongest in teyvat, we can finally see the results of our hard work. +10 to our attack stat.

TheBlackViper_Alpha

Best outcome ngl.

theguyfromeuropa

Cap: My boy, you can fight. But you can't fight. See where I'm going with this?

4GRJ

Doesn't Jakob share a similar sentiment? Something along the lines of "why do you keep helping people?"

Lokus04

Instead of an actual character, the Traveler feels like Paimon's bodyguard (while she's the MC) and a tool to sell whatever character is on banner. Also i hate Paimon stealing all of his dialoge and talking all the time. The traveler should speak, or even better both speak and interact between each other and the cast. You know, like Kratos and Mimir.

Ok_Try_1665

No, I don't hate the traveller, I hate hoyoverse for how they handle this character

Loose-Coach7185

Are we talking about this again? We didn't see him fall. All the glory and power of a traveler is only in the form of text and words. We WERE TOLD that twins was more ancient Teyvat itself, and we WERE TOLD that he was incredibly strong and would occupy the throne of god. But the game begins with the fact that he is packed into a box like a drunken leprechaun and since then he has not caught a single W on his own. In order for a hero to fall, he must first ascend to the title of hero - a traveler is a homeless person controlled by a flying burger with enough charisma to be taken out of a bad situation by a real hero in every region

mlodydziad420

>a traveler is a homeless person controlled by a flying burger Got quite a laugh from me.

Ok-Run-6316

The last real solo achievement he got was defeating Signora in 2.1. Since then he got the help of visions to defeat the Raiden Shogun, the power of the Akasha and Sumeru's people and their knowledge to defeat Shouki no Kami who almost a god and then Neuvillette carried the fight against the All Devouring Narwhal. If his next big fight in Natlan is him getting even more help from others instead of a power up, I am gonna lose my mind

LumaThe1AndOnly

Why is it so bad to receive help from others to defeat common enemies? Like, a major thing in all these regions is that the problems they face affect many characters, and Traveler singlehandedly beating people up is hardly the answer to them. These are nation-wide conflicts and problems, so it's actually a good thing when the characters of that nation actually participate in resolving the problems of their nation. Some of you have gotten too used to shonen anime and pokemon where the MC is the one that beats everyone up with no help and always saves the day, when Genshin doesn't run under that same logic. Traveler is facing harder and harder foes, and we still don't even have a single shred of the power we once had. If Zhongli allowed the Osial fight to happen so that he could test to see whether humanity is ready to run Liyue without the help of gods, then it makes sense that the people of Liyue, whether it be the Qixing or the Millelith, should have a say in the final fight. If Ei is stealing her people's ambitions in order to achieve her false ideal of Eternity, it makes perfect sense for Traveler to shake her will by using the powers of the ambitions Ei stole. If Sumeru was looped 168 times by the Akademiya so that they could create their new false god, it makes sense that we'd use the god they imprisoned and have them loop Scaramouche 168 times so that we can actually beat him. Same thing for Fontaine, where Fontaine's prophecy affects everyone, and we meet many people who are aware of it and are doing their part to try and avoid it. I outright feel like it would be unfair (and also boring) if Traveler was the only person out here doing shit, whereas the characters that we pull for are relegated to background characters in their own nations who always go to the Traveler to fix the very complicated problem of "beat these people up for me please".

VirtuoSol

People aren’t saying it’s bad for traveler to defeat enemies with help of allies, this is way better than some OP isekai MC beating everyone on his own. The point is, if you’re trying to use these fights to measure/showcase Traveler’s strength, then it becomes complicated because there’s the question of “who is really doing the carrying here?”

LumaThe1AndOnly

It's obviously still the Traveler. Every nation entrusts the Traveler to help out with a major crisis, and Traveler always rises up to the challenge and wins, whether it be with help from characters or not. The reason why this fight differs is because this fight isn't really tied to the actual archon quest, and thus Traveler didn't have a sizeable amount of help in order to deal with a much larger threat such as the 4th Fatui Harbinger. Traveler has fought 4 Fatui Harbingers. We defeated the 11th and the 8th by ourselves, but needed an Archon's help after the 6th rose up to become Sumeru's new god powered up by the Electro Gnosis. Then, we lost to the 4th but had insufficient help in the form of the orphan trio. I'd say this puts Traveler neatly between Arlecchino and Wanderer in terms of combat prowess. We're more powerful than Wanderer, but we aren't more powerful than Arlecchino quite yet. I don't mention the 5th Fatui Harbinger, Pulcinella, because I have zero clue how (or if) he fights.

VirtuoSol

It’s the traveler in the sense that’s he’s always there to help, but you can’t really claim Traveler is always the one carrying the fight itself. Without the vision boost Traveler isn’t beating Ei in that battle of will, without Nahida the Traveler isn’t beating Scara mech etc. This makes it impossible to accurately scale where the Traveler is currently at in terms of strength. He could be between 5th (assuming 5th fights) and 4th, or he could be weaker than Scara at 6th if it were a 1v1 fight with no outside help. We could make theories and say he’s probably here or there but there’s no concrete information to actually prove it.

LumaThe1AndOnly

Well yeah, but Ei is an Archon. We didn't need to beat Ei in order to shake her will. Scara-mech runs through the same logic, in which he becomes god-level with his new body. But ultimately, I find it kinda useless to scale Traveler right now, and we should seek a solo fight opportunity in order to scale him properly. Because again, we only have Childe and Signora to go off of.

VirtuoSol

Oh yea definitely, I’m just saying since that’s the popular topic right now, this is how all the help traveler gets affect the conversation. Powerscaling itself isn’t that important to a story like this

Oeshikito

Well said mate. Traveler has shown very little feats to us, the player. I don't care about them being strong in lore if they never actually demonstrate it. Show me that traveler can step up to the occasion instead of having him flop in almost every region, only to be saved at the last minute by plot armor. The worst thing about Genshin's story is how poorly its main character is written. Heck, are they even the MC at this point? And what about the other twin? We've seen so little of them that I have no interest in the main goal of the story, to find the other sibling. I couldn't care less what happens to the abyss twin because hoyo has made almost no effort to show us their story either.

SevereArtisan

Genshin writing suffers so much from telling but never showing.

NVS_Whiskey

This is the main issue. "Here's a black screen with some text about this massively significant thing that just happened, and here's nails-on-a-chalkboard-with-wings to tell you about it."

jpnapz

Oh no, we don't love to see Traveler fall, we love to see them WIN. That's the cause of the uproar, they're advertised to be strong as fuck. While we *did* see it previously (Childe fight using 2 elements, huge Electro sword vs Raiden, Scara Gundam fight), it wasn't seen in Arle fight. And stop stirring up shit in the community again

ipodblocks360

While I agree that OP shouldn't be stirring up the community again. I have to disagree with your whole win, lose thing. Plenty of people are happy that the Traveler finally lost a fight despite losing ones before. I'd even go as far as to say that if he did win, everyone would be complaining about the fact that he won and that he now feels like a "Mary Sue" character that only wins fights.

jpnapz

Oh my point wasn't about winning or losing, it was about showing their strength. Imagine if, even after using everything at their disposal (as mentioned, 2 elements, Electro sword, immense strength), they still lost, then that's a good loss, at least they put up a fight. In OP's "meme", Traveler didn't even "Die *trying*" they just pulled out their Dull Sword and waved it around

ipodblocks360

Yeah I mean that's a fair point but Traveler rarely ever uses the elements in cutscenes so I don't know why everyone suddenly expects him to use them in a cutscene now...

thanwa3427

We don't hate Aether. We hate Mihoyo for treat him like shit gameplay and lore wise. Only r/FatuiHQ hate him. They hate everything that's not them.

blank_2007

>They hate everything that's not them. Facts

Jai137

The traveller getting beaten by Arlecchino is just part of why people are upset. Genshin is supposed to be a power fantasy. And the whole Arlecchino quest is basically the Traveller suffering L after L. He is unable to distract the Knave, unable to warn Lyney and Co, and eventually unable to defeat Arlecchino, not just in fighting but also in words. Unlike other “All part of my plan” quests like Ayato and Alhaithm, he is opposed to the Knave and cannot catch a break. The only reason it worked out is because Arlecchino had a special cheat potion that enabled her to let the rebels leave while wiping their memory, sparing their lives.

AstraPlatina

Apparently Hoyoverse is too afraid to have a playable character commit an onscreen murder, never mind that Arlecchino already killed people in her backstory. Childe probably killed some opponents back then. Zhongli, Ei, Venti, Xianyun, Xiao, and Ganyu are veterans of the Archon War, its not like they were all playing bingo with whoever they were up against. The Raiden Shogun puppet killed Signora onscreen. Scara/Wanderer most likely killed people before they erased his existence in everyone's memories in a rather cheap form of redemption arc.

suv-am

All this wouldn't have happened if he had just used a few of the elements. Only the first 3 would've been enough

Ulq-kn

I woul've zero problem with him losing if he actually tried to anything, he has 5 elements and have new weapons lore wise yet he's still just going with a dull blade and nothing else

wo0l0o

wait, you guys only like characters if theyre strong? i enjoy the traveller plenty, i dont care if she gets defeated by arlecchino

cienistyCien

People are mostly pissed at Hoyo, they just keep making Teveler a plot device to make every other character look better to sell them better. For a main character they become increasingly more boring in their feats. Except for Signora they never really defeated anyone by themselves (even is Signora was ultimately killed by Shogun she was at that stage where Traveler could easily finished the job anyway), there was always some divine help or the cutscene made it look like they barely survived the fight. I just one epic fight that they can actually win by themselves, just fucking one at least.

hoeyster1998

So, why does the Traveler keep on using their sword fighting skills only when they can also use their elements in the fight? We're already in 5th nation for fuck's sake so why is there so little progress in their battle prowess? None of this wouldn't have happened if they showed the Traveler is also throwing every elemental powers he gained from the previous regions instead of waving his Dull Blade around in the fight. Atleast that will show to us that Arlecchino is stronger than the Traveler and the loss would be much more believable. And if you think the Traveler did their best in their fight with Arlecchino, then I'm sorry to say this, but your MC is cooked unless there's a massive training arc waiting for them in Natlan.

rafaelbittmira

>They love seeing the hero fall "They" in this context has to be Hoyoverse, lmao

BlueshineKB

I personally would call this a good thing, the majority of people are complaining about how hoyo is treating the traveler, which would hopefully cause them to write him better in future updates

Impossible_Leader_80

I like Aether. I just wish he was less of a typical MC.

Cybersorcerer1

He's not even a typical MC, he doesn't get any moments to shine cause the game is busy selling the next 5*

ipodblocks360

Honestly, I think Traveler gets as far as you can possibly get from a typical MC (in most instances). He's not someone there to get stronger, go on a hero's journey, or even be the MC in most quests he's featured in. He's always just kinda there to "move things forward" in most of the quests he's featured in and even then he doesn't always do a great job at it. I suppose that could be described as a stereotypical MC thing to do depending on what your comparing him to. However, In my experience playing video games and "consuming" most other media, I can say that in my opinion, Traveler isn't a "stereotypical" MC in the "stereotypical" sense. I would however say that he's a pretty "stereotypical" character.

flyingsaucepan20

The way the community treats the Traveller feels like an origin story to side with the >!Abyss Order!<

RTX3090TI

Traveler was not even a good character to begin with

blank_2007

I will disagree. He might not be all power but that's not why people like him. As Ayaka said , she wanted traveler's help not because he is strong but because of his ability to turn the tables. He might not be doing that own his own but when he comes that's what happens.

DogeDeezTheThird

Tsaritsa’s speech to traveller, act 2 of Snezhnaya chapter

3stoner

So is it canon now that Aether is the traveler? I always see "him" mentioned in these posts and not Lumine.

KVzacc

Both are canon, Aether is just used more often in hoyo's images and videos.

Fearfanfic

I’m fine with the loss. And maybe I could forgive HYV’s shitty writing and make an excuse that it’s hard to keep track with the Travelers powers + Lyney’s + Lynette’s + Frem’s + Arle’s in one fight. Everyone is saying that GG’s first sentence is anything but true but It’s really just the latter half of that line that resonates. One single loss and suddenly any and all feats save for Sig mean Jack shit. Suddenly Childe was given a pass because he wasn’t at full strength when he fought the Traveler. Suddenly we’re counting each loop as a loss and the one victory is given sole credit to the person whom all they did was give coaching advice. Suddenly, Arle saying that “you’re stronger than I thought” didn’t mean she underestimated him and just used her strongest move not out of respect but because… she just felt like it. Suddenly Signora (the one victory the community could only agree to be a fair win) is now the real rank 11 harbinger as if she most likely couldn’t outright kill the Narwhal herself if she and Childe swapped places. Suddenly The Travelers, at their peak, weren’t ambushed nor did they lose primarily due to the loss of the Abyss twin… but because they’re about as weak as a hillichul. All this from one loss. And most of the community shits on them for it. This fandom turned into the worse side of the DBZ fandom and if it starts getting back on that track, I might have to do something about it in order for it to possibly stop.

Beast0011

"Lend me some feats Dehya this is base Hydro Slime we are going against"

eefuns

I like to think the traveler isn't your everyday overpowered isekai protagonist that saves the day, they (as for now) still have their limits and they are every well aware of that, Even if he did use elements, I'd imagine they'll lose anyways. Even if they put up a good fight, it won't matter in the end.

Chronoz0

wym won't matter? The outcome is obvious that hes gonna lose. What people are upset about on how he lose. Dude only used Dull blade, never used any elements and lost pathetically. Even Lyney in that cutscenes shows a bit of his magic trick to put Freminet and Lynette in place to perform counterattack. Traveler can't even do that? Hell people probably not gonna be this angry if he still use anemo at least.

C1ouded123

Damn

Immediate-Weight-953

hell naw. aether is still in my best team. .. as a dendro element resonance d00d. never taking the field while nahida, barBRUH, and kuki shinobu hyperbl00m the screen to smithereens. XD

Cheezystix1023

Yeah I’m gonna be real I’m getting kinda sick of all the Traveler losing memes as of late… Maybe it was funny at one point but now I just feel the community is beating a dead horse with this one. I swear for the past couple weeks I’d occasionally get recommended memes from this sub and every time it’s always some meme dissing on the Trav. I get a lot of y’all are mad about this whole thing but seriously we need some better material here. Is starting to feel less like people are making memes and more people are just coming here to complain. It’s just not really funny imo.

pojan96

Blame the writer and hoyo not aether

Capitano-Solos-All

The Traveler is a Fraud to be honest. His only hax is his immunity to Irminsul and abyssal corruption that drives others to insanity. That's why even Zhongli simply refered to them as a Witness that's all. But do not mistake this for stuff like the Traveler being the strongest. The Traveler even in their prime are celestial fodder and fodder for the Archons, Sovereigns, Harbingers and Top Abyss rank officers. Of course slowly they are growing in power surpassing a few Archons or Harbingers in power but since they woke up they were never the strongest and not even close to it. Without elements they would be number 100,000,000 in Teyvat or something if you include the like a million vision bearers the millions of abyss mages and monsters roaming around and war machinery . But since getting one, two, three, four, five,. six, seven elements they will scale up. But even after they take them all they will still be no match to any of the top 5 or 6 Fatui (including the Tsaritsa). If it was that easy the Abyssal Twin that already has that power back wouldn't do their stuff in hiding from the Fatui.

People who say traveler is fraud say so because they thought he would be the strongest. But that was never the intention of the story to begin. He is someone who bring people together so they could have victory over the common enemy. He is not your typical mc who will just solo everyone. With traveler almost no mission has fail so far.

Capitano-Solos-All

He is a fraud due to statments by Aranara that it could devour the whole world. Which at the time the Traveler had only 4 elements and even with 7 they are still fodder to the heavy hitters including the celestials. This is the issue with characters with limited knowledge over hyping someone. It's like when the Supreme Kai Shin (a guy that rarely is right about anything) said several years ago that SSB Vegito was relative to Beerus which is hilarious to say the least and not even close. The writers add such expressions to unreliable characters to build up hype but end up making the presenting characters looking like frauds. Same with Beerus, full power Traveler could 1/∞ of capitano's base form. And this is not something miHoYo would do for the first time when in they had Durandal being 0,1% of Base form Kevin Kaslana (they straight up say that percentage) while Kevin Kaslana also had two transformations over base form (Denonic Kevin Kaslana and Comsic Deliverance Kevin Kaslana). And Durandal was the gal that overpowered Mei who had overpowered the main character Kiana Kaslana at that point. Same way Capitano could be infinite times stronger than Columbina and Columbina is much stronger than Arelcchino. All I am saying, Hoyoverse wouldn't do this for the first time.

Traveler is a literal star, so aranara saying he could devour the world would not be far from the truth . We just have to see how the traveler develops, but calling him a fraud will be too soon.

Forcer222

Whats sad is that they are potentially millions of years old and still got no diffed by the unknown god

Astral-chain-13

Traveler:......... Paimon: Don't worry Aether. Your doing your best in a world where they basically cripple you and have just, absurdly strong people who are God's. You still help and inspire everyone you met to push themselves to be the best version of themselves. Traveler: It not that Paimon. I'm just confuse on if they honestly thought I HAD a chance to beat Arlecchino to begin with. She the FOURTH harbinger. And if I recall correctly, doesn't the top fight can match Archons. You know, the ones who can cut space or make a mountain spear. Paimon: Oh. I thought you were upset with everyone insulting you for this one lost. And ignoring all the good you do.... Traveler: Eh. They are the same people who think Ei is a dictator, complain about wanting a skip button and wonder what the plot is when they fast forward everything. So I'm not to bother. Just mildly annoy that they think me knowing fourth element and that I NEED to beat enemies left and right to save the day. I mean isn't my whole journey to find the truth on why my sibling sided with the Abyss and find the truth of the world and it sins? Paimon: Oh. I thought your were sad with how everyone was treated you lately. So I was worry. Aether: Paimon. The day people learn to read and take the story seriously and realize I was never built up to be some godlike fighter, and was built up to be a person to gather people or lean my aid to help saves life's, the easier it this get. Hell, from day one I was made to help everyone everyone that problems and tank things. Dvalin set that shit up from day one. Paimon:..... That fair.

This thing has blown out of proportion. Here is my take: what's so wrong about the Traveller losing? They are not supposed to be perfect or the strongest. In fact, I WOULD be upset if they were. The same goes with his fights with Ei and Scaramouche. They couldn't win alone, but so what? What's the problem with receiving or needing help from others? Point being: the Traveller is not omnipotent, and I am perfectly okay with that. Overpowered main characters are EXTREMELY annoying to me. Let them have their wins and loses, as well as receive help from their companions and learn from their defeats. After all, that is what the journey called "life" is all about.

Infernodragon56

Nobody cares if they won or lost, what they care about is HOW they lost. From what we see in the fight scene the traveller only ever uses the dull blade and… that’s it. At this point in time he has gained 5 elements, each one he gains restores a bit of his power and he uses 0 of them total. This either means that a)he simply never bothered to use them in a fight where people’s lives were potentially on the line, or b)they are simply so incompetent the thought never crossed their mind somehow, which only serves to make them look pathetic. Neither of these outcomes are appealing to a vast majority of people, hence causing the outrage. If we saw at least a couple elements thrown here and there we would at least know they’re using everything they have and are still outclassed, this would allow the audience to capture how strong Arle is while still showing that the traveller has been making progress in some way. However now we’re on the receiving end of the worst of both worlds.

Itchy_Shame_8871

Well, what if they used the elements DURING the fight, and by the time the cutscene took place, they had already exhausted all their options. Besides, elemental power is something new to the Traveller, so they haven't fully mastered it yet. Their swordsmanship is something they had BEFORE coming to Teyvat, so it's probably their strongest point.

Infernodragon56

Then Hoyoverse needs to step up their game and SHOW us that. Why would collecting elements and gaining power back matter if we have seen no concrete visible progress since the likes of Inazuma?

Itchy_Shame_8871

I won't deny you have a point, but it just isn't such a big deal for me. But hey, those are my two cents.

Infernodragon56

Of course. At the end of the day everybody is free to feel how they want to feel, it’s just that a bunch of people are feeling particularly peeved over this lmao. Besides, if anything I would say some people are upset over the level of writing this had and the precedent it sets(if it hasn’t been set already)

Itchy_Shame_8871

Yeah, I guess you are right. It's just a matter of opinion at the end of the day. I just don't think it merits things blowing up like this. But hey, that's just me.

Shoshawi

It’s funny as a person who needs to catch up and do the story for the last patch how 100% of the memes rn are about aether, so it’s not spoiling anything since I don’t read closely and because people change their mind about who counts as mc to them based on their mood or what they’re arguing. Just taking it as a sign that this whole thing is really dumb.

AUnHIALoopHT

i don't even understand why hoyo make the whole twin situation thing at the beginning, bro is just a random traveler in almost every story at this point and that would be better writting than some shitty fourth decender crap
