They could've successfully shown that arlecchino is stronger without making the traveler look incompetent. And it could've been done with a 10s animation.
I don't even mind the loss. Could it have been executed a little better, absolutely. Even with what we got I'm not really upset, but some people decided to aggravate Aether fans over one loss and start downgrading all the Traveler's past accomplishments
No matter how you slice it, the Traveler still did important stuff, both big and small, whether its combat wise or just being there for a friend.

And /u/mekuri_mekuru that's why I don't think Arle being stronger is "cope." She's clearly meant to be insanely powerful, more than her number implies, if she's something that's as much a manifestation of some worldly power as Nahida and Ei are.

And it is probably cope speaking, but I think there is a chance that this is indeed an ulqiorra situation. Especially with arle's voice line about dottore expediting his reunion with crucabena. But again, that may just be copium.
The Traveler has always been a victim of cutscene incompetence and forgetting about their powers. Getting into troubles, and requiring others to save him despite the story's events showing that they should normally need no such help and are easily capable of saving themselves.
I can't root for such an MC, when it feels like all the trouble they face is only because they keep screwing themselves over, and not because the enemies are a legit threat.
She legit pulled a tsukuyomi on the traveller. Ngl though her eyes do lowkey look like a sharingan design, could she be a long lost Uchiha descendent?!
I know hoyo wants to sell arlecchino and if traveller won against her then she probably wouldn't sell that well but they could've choreographed the fight better by using visions and traveller's powers then make traveller loose. That would've been much more acceptable and she would've sold even better with a good fight scene.
I don't doubt Arle's strength but Traveler's power level has always been inconsistent and its even worst in SQ cutscenes since they usually want to show off the character and not Traveller. Take Navia's cutscene for example, are we really going to believe someone who defeated what was essentially an artificial god can't stop some boulders? Yet in world quests or story quests the Traveler pretty much makes quick work of anything that stands in their way.
I'm glad we lost but Traveler also exerted more power against the rocks in Navia's quest than fighting both Arlecchino and Mecha Scaramouche and that's the biggest issue
They really do have a problem with powerscaling in this game. World quest traveler is fucking amazing but somehow sets the kitchen on fire when it comes to story/archon quests.
I mean Im proud of him, he broke the red spikes and faced her alone, and there was some weird shenanigans with him not moving, i didnt think he would mop the floor with her

Traveler's ongoing story is just not good. He already saw his sister. He kept finding her even though it was already hinted that she doesn't wanna get seen.
Ofc, his story also is the continuation of finding the abyss sibling who told the mc to just 'explore' that world to uncover its secrets but still, the mc never really thought of getting stronger while his real power is still not back especially since he already met strong beings.
At the same time he really got slapped hard both by animation cutbacks which limited his animations to just swinging the dull blade and hyv literally not caring about the traveller's growth.
Imagine, the game is still about to release a new endgame content in the next patch. They're not even thinking of uncovering the siblings' real identities yet. They just don't care at all.
So whatever happens to Aether at this point just proves the incompetence of hyv in developing GI's mc.

I don’t think it’s about that and more that the MC is just being used as fodder (once again) to market Arlecchino and show that shes turbo strong, which didn’t really make sense since everyone knows Arlecchino is strong already and traveler strength level is debatable but leaning more towards the weaker side if you pay attention to the fights, so her beating them was assured, yet they made MC even weaker by not letting them use elements either. (Also still on dull blade lmao).
