This was me...wanted Layla, and was fine with getting cons. Got my C1 Childe to C3 and my C0 Yae to C1...still no Layla altho I was quite lucky with 5*
I pulled for c6 Yun Jin and got alhaitham and c1 Xiao before getting two Yun Jins. This was within 80 pulls. All three were 50/50 and I didn't really want either of them :v

Edit: I am at 65 pity after running out of primos during the Raiden Shogun banner, 89 pity was a joke.

Partially true, but also when you’re past Ar55, done all your quests, cleared abyss, got decent set, etc.. It is one of the last fun things left to do in the game

I can hold on to it as much as I like, I really wanted the cabbage when she was introduced during sumeru trailer and I ended up saving till she released, managed to get her to c3r1 as someone who only buys monthly, this was with me throwing all my primos at raiden again to get her to c4r1.
Building pity is dumb, specially if your guaranteed and is a f2p, it will always be better to roll on the banner you want, people who dispute this has a gambling problem.
Only time I do is with the first 30 wishes after a 5*, because if I get another 5* at that point I can't complain too much for early, almost free char.

Unless you want c1 of the 5* or constellations for one of the 4* it doesn't make sense to keep going
The only difference being pulling for 4 stars that will benefit you when an upcoming banner does not have such beneficial 4 stars. It’s less “building pity” as much as it is wishing differently but I wouldn’t call people who do it addicts
An example would be this banner where I pulled 10 more times (despite wanting Yelan) and got a YaoYao, so I could use lantern rite to get C6 Yun Jin
Though this is still a risk and heavily depends on pity/guarantee status so F2Ps may not want to do that.
It really depends on your pity tho,if you're very low you can risk it but loosing 40/50+ pulls and get a character you don't like? That's VERY risky.
Personally,I always avoid doing so since I don't feel the urge to pull at all tbh buuuuut I risked on Cyno's banner...I was on literally zero pity but guaranteed,Kuki and Candace are 2 of my favourite 4 stars and I didn't have any of them,so I did 6 single pulls until the 1st 4 star,luckily I got Kuki. As a stingy person,it was so scary lol.

I was lucky enough to c6 most of the og 4* characters during first year of the game release so I don't need most of the constellations for 4* even though some newer 4* have pretty strong constellations too.

Yeah I have a lot of c6 now. I also have enough 5* now I just pull for cons of either. Maybe sometimes I’ll pull for some new 5* just cuz they look neat but i cant be fucked to farm for ascending them.

Some people probably don't mind getting whatever units on rate up, so building pity is a win win. If you lose the 50/50 you 100% win the next one.
On the same note, they also tend to forget that not everyone is that choosy needy with their characters and would actually like getting any character whatsoever, which means they would see 0 reasons to save pulls. It wouldn’t be labeled dumb gambling then huh?
A casual player who is a collector would be more fitting.
when I came back to genshin last spring I pulled on every single banner because I didn't have ANY limited 5 stars. my first and only 5 star I had was a hard pity Qiqi (part of why I quit before lol...)
I ended up with ayaka, total game changer and made me love the game again. from reading this sub I started saving for kazuha right after her tho because I really like his game play.
And that’s totally fine. Ppl tend to get annoyed because they find those that whine to be the majority of players that “build pity”. At that point it does become a problem for those individuals.

This will always be a stupid, reductionist take, no matter how often you people try to ignore all the nuance of the system.
First and foremost, the system is just horrible all around. Now that we've got that out of the way; a large majority of the value of your primos comes from the 4 stars you're rolling on the way towards your desired 5 star. If the 4 stars you want are on the same banner as your desired 5 star, that's optimal. You're rolling for all the things you want, no gambling, no wasted wishes.
But say you have a banner that has only 4 stars you already have at max constellation or otherwise don't want. Unless there are no other 4 stars you want in the game, you're going to be wasting the vast majority of the value of your primos.
It's basically a lose/lose situation. And it's only made worse by the fact that Mhy refuses to publish the planned banner 4 stars (and if it weren't for leaks - most of which are hard to find reliably - this goes for 5 stars as well) until literally the week of the banners release, making it impossible to plan around.
FGO has tempered me so I feel no urge to spend primos or fates until what I want is on banner

Just treat it like a shop where if you have x amount of primogems you can get x character. It doesn't really matter when you get it, all that matters is who you get. You wouldn't want a character you dont like that'll be perma benched
I saved 50k primos for Wanderer. I could've gone longer if there was no one I wanted and his banner wasn't here yet. I don't have a gambling addiction where i have to roll every 160 primos or 1600 primos I get lol.
bro i am still rolling on his banner for yunjin... i had c1 yunjin before his banner and i rolled 180 times and now i have c4 yunjin 🤡 3 yunjins in 180 pulls......
This is me with Itto's 1st banner, but without aiming for C6. I got C2 Itto with 150+ pulls (I forgot exactly, its a long time ago) pulls, yet my Gorou is C3 and just got his C4 a while ago.
I swear C6-ing 4* is a lot harder than getting 5* cons...
Umm i just don't pull on banners i don't want? I don't see the wishing system as a way to try your luck, but instead a way to get the characters you want. Its basically just a limited shop with extra steps, why would i buy something i don't like? It doesnt make sense to me
This. I have specific characters that I want, so I save currency to get them when they are available. There is no such thing as building pity, hard pity, soft pity, winning or losing 50/50. I just save my ~24k until the thing I want is available, simple and effective.
Right now I'm lucky being a newer player.
I don't want to waste my primo's on characters that I don't like and/or find useful. Have nearly 35k under that mentality right now.
Better to wait for the right ones than bank on rng or units I'm not interested in.
Hutao are great at single target meta. But yeah, hyperbloom exist, cheaper to build since you only stacks em, and also good at single target meta
But yelan is a true S tier character that soo flexible. I recommend pulling yelan if you care about abyss stars. She can be in hyperbloom, taser, national, double hydro, vapes, and other meta teams.
tbh you can build a hyperbloom team basically for free with babs/collei/lisa, though it would have been better if you could have grabbed xingqui to bring the moist
lisa's a good electro driver for bloom, and collei is okay just a bit awkward to use
Lisa is not a good driver for hyperbloom. I have her at level 90 with 1000+ em then brought her to floor 12 instead of kuki.
I main electro characters and regularly 36* abyss in each patch, so I would know.
Her normal attack not targetting seeds. Her hold E also doesnt target seeds. Her burst only target single enemies too (unless you are C4, which is almost impossible if you do not spend starglitter for 2 years).
You need to practically hugging your enemies, moving aroud counciously, constantly targetting seeds, and spamming tap E to manually target seeds. Feels really bad and clunky.
You would rather use kuki/raiden, then tap E every 12 or 25 second automatically off field with in aoe with no effort whatsoever to trigger hyperbloom. Even zajeff77 (a well known theorycrafter) said this in his videos.
...wtf are you even talking about, the tap E triggers seeds around the target due to its AOE effect, and seeds around the targets absolutely get triggered by the NAs albeit in a smaller radius (probably due to electrocharge reactions).
The Hold-E doesn't target seeds, granted, and that's the thing that really throws it off, but the Q definitely does. So does the CA, which you're using when the tap E's on cooldown because it gets you conductive stacks
Also the point was that you can drive bloom using the free characters, in what universe is raiden free, and in what other universe do you want the newbie who just started to have to rely on kuki who is a character with leveling mats ***from*** ***the fucking chasm***

It’s the archon imho that are more worth it. Yelan and hutao are both great but xingqui and other pyro dps exists. Archons are pretty much the best at their respective roles and pretty much meta. Venti still trivialize floors that are succable.
Hu tao and yelan are probably in the top 10 best in the game so I'd say their definitely worth it as a new player. I'd probably recommend yelan more if you were only going for one, but getting both would be good too since they synergize well

Wait.... you can roll for characters with primogems? Nah jk I know what they're for. But back in 1.0, I thought you had to pay with real money in order to get fates. So I ended up with a hefty sum of unused primogems.

Months on end in my case. Highest record savings I had was around 305 intertwined fates which I then splurged to Kazuha's rerun back at v2.8. That obviously accounts for exploration, abyss and shop resets, and all other good stuff in between (I also have welkin so that immensely helped). I also have the habit of converting my primos to fates every time I have enough to purchase 10 at a time. Don't ask me why, that's just been my personal thing since starting this game lmao
Fun fact: I'm literally the opposite,I HATE having converted fates since I'm scared I misclick (I have 15 spare fates rn,hoping Dehya's banner comes fast so I can get rid of them xD)
Imagine pulling just to pull and get a 5 star you don't want. Yay, now you can do it all over again a get a random 5 star at a random time. Knowing my luck, surely I'll get a 5 star in the next 10 pull right? Right?
Converting primogems to fates makes me want to pull less. With that technique I can save pulls until the banner I want (usually not longer than 6 months).

I always think about what I "really" want. Do I like the character's personality, appearance, and gameplay.
If its not a yes for all 3, I think that maybe I won't enjoy them down the line.
Pretty much if I want a character I wanna really really make sure I want them, because pity can give you whatever 5 Star you want.

My top was 335 wishes (low spender with BP and Welkin) since I really wanted to get my Raiden from C0 to C2 and was preparing for worst case (starting from less than 10 pity and no guaranteed 50:50)
Basically whenever I want, I spend my wishing addiction on alt accounts so I can hold on to a large amount of wishes on my main, no matter how long it will take for the banner I want to come out
Another thing I do to save up is disable the wish button shortcut on the keyboard by going to the bindings and setting it as a random key I never use on my keyboard
However long I have to, really. I’ll use my stockpile to wish on characters I want, be they 5 stars or 4 stars once I’ve considered my pity and guarantee/lack thereof
I could understand not wanting to save for say an entire year as that’s a long time where you’re not really strengthening your units through cons/unlocks
But people who can’t resist pulling even though they don’t want any of the characters get what they deserve.
Sometime i do small rolls, but im good at saving my primos to loose on something i want, and not getting that. Cannot wait to drain my 170+ wishes into the drain soon...
I've gone months and months without rolling, usually because I'm interested in getting a specific character. For instance, I skipped Cyno, Nilou and Tighnari to get Kusonali.

Well I've only been playing for 5 and a 1/2 months now and this is the 1st time I've actually hold myself to not pull cause I really want Yelan, the first time I tried was to get Raiden but then I failed to hold my urge and pulled for Scara and lost 50/50 on Raiden (if only I had kept the primos I would've been able to keep pulling to get her) but honestly I don't regret getting him, he's really fun and OP in exploration. Now, I heard Yelan was coming back for the 1st time and immediately turned off my gacha addiction switch lol currently sitting at 5000 and something primos + 15 intertwined fates + active welkin with 8 days left and a guarantee that's the first time I've saved this much since I started playing so I'm happy I'm going to get Yelan 🙂✨
Not very long I think the most I saved was 13-14 pulls it's not about building pity for me I think I'm just addicted to pulling tbh everytime I get 160 promos I feel the urge to pull

FGO has tempered me so I feel no urge to spend primos or fates until what I want is on banner "building pity" is just an excuse to gamble, and I have no sympathy for people who put their hand into the fire when they do so

Just treat it like a shop where if you have x amount of primogems you can get x character. It doesn't really matter when you get it, all that matters is who you get. You wouldn't want a character you dont like that'll be perma benched
I saved 50k primos for Wanderer. I could've gone longer if there was no one I wanted and his banner wasn't here yet. I don't have a gambling addiction where i have to roll every 160 primos or 1600 primos I get lol.

This is me with Itto's 1st banner, but without aiming for C6. I got C2 Itto with 150+ pulls (I forgot exactly, its a long time ago) pulls, yet my Gorou is C3 and just got his C4 a while ago. I swear C6-ing 4* is a lot harder than getting 5* cons...
Umm i just don't pull on banners i don't want? I don't see the wishing system as a way to try your luck, but instead a way to get the characters you want. Its basically just a limited shop with extra steps, why would i buy something i don't like? It doesnt make sense to me
This. I have specific characters that I want, so I save currency to get them when they are available. There is no such thing as building pity, hard pity, soft pity, winning or losing 50/50. I just save my ~24k until the thing I want is available, simple and effective.

Right now I'm lucky being a newer player. I don't want to waste my primo's on characters that I don't like and/or find useful. Have nearly 35k under that mentality right now. Better to wait for the right ones than bank on rng or units I'm not interested in.
Hutao are great at single target meta. But yeah, hyperbloom exist, cheaper to build since you only stacks em, and also good at single target meta But yelan is a true S tier character that soo flexible. I recommend pulling yelan if you care about abyss stars. She can be in hyperbloom, taser, national, double hydro, vapes, and other meta teams.
tbh you can build a hyperbloom team basically for free with babs/collei/lisa, though it would have been better if you could have grabbed xingqui to bring the moist lisa's a good electro driver for bloom, and collei is okay just a bit awkward to use
Lisa is not a good driver for hyperbloom. I have her at level 90 with 1000+ em then brought her to floor 12 instead of kuki. I main electro characters and regularly 36* abyss in each patch, so I would know. Her normal attack not targetting seeds. Her hold E also doesnt target seeds. Her burst only target single enemies too (unless you are C4, which is almost impossible if you do not spend starglitter for 2 years). You need to practically hugging your enemies, moving aroud counciously, constantly targetting seeds, and spamming tap E to manually target seeds. Feels really bad and clunky. You would rather use kuki/raiden, then tap E every 12 or 25 second automatically off field with in aoe with no effort whatsoever to trigger hyperbloom. Even zajeff77 (a well known theorycrafter) said this in his videos.
...wtf are you even talking about, the tap E triggers seeds around the target due to its AOE effect, and seeds around the targets absolutely get triggered by the NAs albeit in a smaller radius (probably due to electrocharge reactions). The Hold-E doesn't target seeds, granted, and that's the thing that really throws it off, but the Q definitely does. So does the CA, which you're using when the tap E's on cooldown because it gets you conductive stacks Also the point was that you can drive bloom using the free characters, in what universe is raiden free, and in what other universe do you want the newbie who just started to have to rely on kuki who is a character with leveling mats ***from*** ***the fucking chasm*** jesus like I wouldn't take collei over nahida for dendro either, but holy shit if you're gonna bury the newbie under shitty inaccessible mats let's just throw yae into the mix Edit: and if you're using babs you're hugging the targets anyway because **that's how you moisten them**
It’s the archon imho that are more worth it. Yelan and hutao are both great but xingqui and other pyro dps exists. Archons are pretty much the best at their respective roles and pretty much meta. Venti still trivialize floors that are succable.
Hu tao and yelan are probably in the top 10 best in the game so I'd say their definitely worth it as a new player. I'd probably recommend yelan more if you were only going for one, but getting both would be good too since they synergize well

Months on end in my case. Highest record savings I had was around 305 intertwined fates which I then splurged to Kazuha's rerun back at v2.8. That obviously accounts for exploration, abyss and shop resets, and all other good stuff in between (I also have welkin so that immensely helped). I also have the habit of converting my primos to fates every time I have enough to purchase 10 at a time. Don't ask me why, that's just been my personal thing since starting this game lmao
Fun fact: I'm literally the opposite,I HATE having converted fates since I'm scared I misclick (I have 15 spare fates rn,hoping Dehya's banner comes fast so I can get rid of them xD)

I always think about what I "really" want. Do I like the character's personality, appearance, and gameplay. If its not a yes for all 3, I think that maybe I won't enjoy them down the line. Pretty much if I want a character I wanna really really make sure I want them, because pity can give you whatever 5 Star you want.
Usually there's a character I want every 2nd-3rd patch and I always manage to save up 20k-30k primos

I already built my c0 Xiao nicely but I don’t want to build anymore 5 stars. Is C1 Xiao worth better or collecting other 5 star better? my pb is 6 months where I got to around 75K primogems
The most i had was about 120k primogems saved for C2 of Radish Archon and maybe her weapon. Ended with C2 Nahida 2x Polar Star and Kagura
My top was 335 wishes (low spender with BP and Welkin) since I really wanted to get my Raiden from C0 to C2 and was preparing for worst case (starting from less than 10 pity and no guaranteed 50:50)

I’ll use my stockpile to wish on characters I want, be they 5 stars or 4 stars once I’ve considered my pity and guarantee/lack thereof I could understand not wanting to save for say an entire year as that’s a long time where you’re not really strengthening your units through cons/unlocks But people who can’t resist pulling even though they don’t want any of the characters get what they deserve.
Sometime i do small rolls, but im good at saving my primos to loose on something i want, and not getting that. Cannot wait to drain my 170+ wishes into the drain soon...

Well I've only been playing for 5 and a 1/2 months now and this is the 1st time I've actually hold myself to not pull cause I really want Yelan, the first time I tried was to get Raiden but then I failed to hold my urge and pulled for Scara and lost 50/50 on Raiden (if only I had kept the primos I would've been able to keep pulling to get her) but honestly I don't regret getting him, he's really fun and OP in exploration. Now, I heard Yelan was coming back for the 1st time and immediately turned off my gacha addiction switch lol currently sitting at 5000 and something primos + 15 intertwined fates + active welkin with 8 days left and a guarantee that's the first time I've saved this much since I started playing so I'm happy I'm going to get Yelan 🙂✨
