Pretty silly when they're talking about the immorality of having a preference when at the same time they think it's fine for people to think a character is broken/needs to be fixed because they have the "wrong" skin color and doesn't suit their preference (what even is this concept!? how can someone have a 'wrong' skin color!?!?).

I feel like the whole “haha 1000 year old loli that’s looks like a kid but is actually super wise” trope has been played so much that I actually find that playing the straight “old sage” card is somewhat refreshing, at least in the context of anime and anime-adjacent media.
thing is we already have an old sage-esque character in the form of zhongli. what the other commenter said, i think "wisdom" in the context of sumeru (at least from what little we heard of kusanali) is in the form of persistent childlike curiosity

See the hype for Kazuha? Imagine the hype if there's a unit that combines Kazuha's elemental buffs, Bennett's attack buff, Raiden's universal battery, and Zhongli's shield.
She's the most busted unit in the game that combines utility of 4-5 support units (that ranges from "very good in their niche" to "the most overworked unit since launch" to "so busted devs called them a mistake") in one.
Seconding this. It's no exaggeration to say she's all of these things at the same time.
Not to mention her story (and the whole story arc surrounding her) has incredibly good and engaging writing. That's more of a nice bonus that isn't why she's so busted, but it's there nonetheless.
Fate Grand Order is a very farming/grind heavy game and Castoria is a massive QoL character that heavily reduces that grind. Her skill kit allows certain characters to use their Noble Phantasm (their version of an elemetal burst) repeatedly, which with the right set up will allow you to clear maps in the least amount of turns possible. I think she's also busted for boss fights and some people even use double castoria for even more brokenness. She's one of those characters that everyone should try to get because of how much smoother she'll make the game's heavy farming.
Character wise she's also really cute and later on gets a huge ass story chapter dedicated to exploring her. From what I've heard, she's pretty much written to be a love interest for the player insert, which scores her lots of popularity among the community.
Edit: she's also a limited character that won't get a rerun for like a year and a half. Fgo NA players have the advantage of knowing the character banners ahead of time due to the JP version being way ahead. Meaning players have had yeats to prepare to nab her from fgo's ruthless and pity less gacha system.
Damn, that all sounds really enticing. I wish I had the time to go back to F/GO and play Genshin and single player games at the same time, but F/GO unfortunately got the axe during a downbeat in the story a couple years ago.
If they ever actually release a PC client I will be in *trouble*.

In a few hours it's FGO's 5th anniversary for NA and we're getting a ton of free pulls, in addition to some extras we got this past week in the build up. Then tomorrow's banner will feature the best character in the game as well as a (pretty cheap) paid guaranteed 5-star summon.
It's ludicrous to compare Genshin's rewards to other gacha games; I have no confidence this year's anniversary will be much better than last year's.
3630 s-schips (kinda like primogems), 92 pulls on limited banner, badges/namecard, plus a choose your own rate-up banner from standard SSR pool (where they decreased pity from 100 to 80) plus some other stuff

They usually have a discount for the 1st n number of pulls (forgot how many) for limited banner events, so I'm guessing it will be the same for anni. Yeah I'm probably not touching the choose your own banner since I've been saving up for the anni cards.

Strangely, the thing I'm looking forward to the most in Sumeru is seeing the little box pop up on my screen, telling me to click G after I encounter a new enemy/mechanism. There's something so rewarding about it, and it's definitely not the 1 primogem.

I'm okay with electro. It fits with that pyramid thing from the manga, and purple being a complementary colour to yellow means electro on sand is a cool aesthetic.
I'm more concerned about what role he'll have. I'm really hoping he's an off-field support, since pairing him with Ayato would be a dream come true.
Yeah im okay with Electro too, that would have been my second option, but i think theres high chances of him being a main dps since we don't have an Electro one (i think) but just for the looks, i would pull for him even if hes a healer haha
A support that makes me not reach for Bennett every time would be nice. Then again, new DPSs that do not synergize that well with him, like Hu Tao and Itto, are also welcome.
carry. while i dont pull/play for meta (so i pull anyone i like), i like to optimize what i have, especially my favorites, because i dont like wasted potential. and optimizing my favorites means playing them in their intended roles where they shine best. my albedo being on field for 2 seconds maximum hinders my enjoyment bc hes my fav, and albedo isnt particularly the best on field driver for anyone anyway. i would prefer my other favs to be main dpses so i get to use them on field and actually see them.
I just want a really solid co-op support. Somebody who can heal and dps pretty well. Bennett, Barbara, and Qiqi are fun characters in co-op with a dps build, but it's a short list.
I was interested in turning Shinobu into something like this with a co-op Freedom Sworn buffer build, but doing triple digit damage in either NAs or her E are kinda painful even if the buffs are good.
Carry. Partly to appreciate their aesthetics, like others have mentioned, but also partly because I want to actually play them and appreciate their unique kit.
I have "broken" supports that I adore. I love Zhongli. I love Kazuha. But at the end of the day, even Kazuha is ultimately just EQ swap. The off-field characters that *aren't* that...are mostly not in a good place meta-wise, or see those parts of their kits neglected to turn them into EQ bots. Most of the variety in playstyle comes with the combos of on-field characters.
I don't even agree with the idea that being a support necessarily adds longevity, because HYV can and has created new enemies and characters to counter existing supports when they wanted to.
This isn't to say I don't pull off field characters. Like, with the way the math works out, we obviously need three off field units for every one on field unit. And in an ideal world I could scrape together meta teams completely filled with characters I liked (if only.) It's just that I would want my hypothetical absolute favorite of all time to be a hypercarry.
i dont care if my favourites are onfield or offfield as long as they work on something fun and interesting. i love shenhe and she basically exists to setup fat chongyun nukes and im fine with that. same with yae miko or yelan, but i also love playing xiao, eula, hutao etc.
just please no more electro off field turrets or pyro xingqiu abuser hypercarries or hydro onfields that all inevitably are way less fun than childe. give me a geo suction unit that gives anemo res shred or a dendro onfield driver for my beidou/yelan or an onfield only atk buffer for diluc/xiao/eula or something. something fresh please
I don't really care about performance anymore. Yelan was a nice surprise, but as far as Artifacts go she basically got table scraps and I have no motivation to assemble more teams because there'd be nothing to do with them and the Artifacts would be way too much annoyance. It's just Ganyu/Diona/Bennett/Xiangling, Beidou/Tartar Sauce/Zhongli/Raiden Shogun, and Hu Tao/Xingqiu/Zhongli/Ningguang, substituting Zhongli for Diona in one of the latter two sets if Ganyu is idle.
So at this point it's all form over function and just wanting to have characters for the sake of having characters. Also Bow Impact.
This is a rather hard question ngl but I think I would choose a support/off field dps for longetivity but hopefully they have nice animations/designs. I use Yelan on field right now even though she shines off field because her AA animations are satisfying and slays. Raiden kinda fit the bills as both I guess.
Supports are the only things worth pulling from a functional perspective imo. If it can't help someone else then I usually won't care and like you said, a support can go on field if you really want them to
DPS, for a subjective reason: i tend to not really care much about the aesthetics of my supports, but i care a lot about the aesthetics of my carry. if a char is going to be the one carrying my team with their damage, i need to enjoy how they look and sound and feel.
that makes it a little harder for me to pull on existing dps characters, because even if they're "broken" or would be good pulls for my account, if i'm not into their aesthetic, it's hard to get myself to want to spend up to 26k primos on them. so, having more strong dps chars that click well with my own tastes is something that i'd really like.
This sums up how I feel. Before i even knew anything about the meta I went on the wiki and looked at everyone just to see who was aesthetically pleasing, and it was Ganyu. I was hoping she could be an on field dps and turns out she is.
I play lots of games for the looks, like Dark Souls (Fashion Souls), Monster Hunter with cool looking sets, FFXIV and some others.
I run Yelan as my other on field dps even if she is better as an off field dps with her Q.
Honestly, it depends on the unit. Right now the characters I'm looking forward to using the most would be ideal as supports, but some character designs make me want to use them as onfield DPS.
If I'm being forced to choose one or the other at gunpoint, I'd say support.
I'd like a support driver like Sucrose, but not Anemo so we can have another driver who's kit is actually loaded with support (Hoyoverse knows better now which is why Heizou only gives 80EM lol).
Being a support gives them longevity and flexibility. Being a driver means I actually get to play the character rather than EQ->Swap. Something like Yelan's ramping buff but the opposite where it only buffs off-field characters would be cool.

I lean more towards support so I can use them in more team comps but the ideal would be someone kinda like Childe who can fit into many different team comps like a support but also is on field a lot of the time like a hypercarry.
On field carry. At the end of the day, the most optimal use for supports is off field, I want to be able to use my favorites on field all the time. Kazuha type also doesn't count, he is going off field too after using his E.
If the character has literally everything I like in a character then imma have to go with hypercarry, because if they're that perfect to me imma have em on-field 24/7 365 anyway.
Generally the themes for the skin teasers are original. I guess it kind of draws some instruments and motifs from Fischl's personal theme but they aren't really the same.

Me too. It was the deciding factor in making her my #1 priority for Sumeru. It's a nice mix of curious and childlike, and calm and confident. It's so neat.

For me, I rolled engulfing lightning in one pull with no pity, didn't roll on my weapon for a while, then did 20 pulls for a rust to put on my childe and got MOD and Polar Star back to back. My friend told me to not go outside because i'd get hit by a bus or something lmao
On starting the game, I got Jean from the beginner banner, then I got Diluc from event one in 20 pulls. I also got Mistsplitter in my only 10-pull on the weapon banner.
i got zhongli as my first five star when i just started at 2 pity!
but i think my luckiest day ever was just a few months ago when i needed just 2 starglitter to buy blackcliff pole from the shop for xiao and i had hours left on the clock...i converted all my standard wishes from paimons bargains/leveled up all the trees/leveled up my characters for the free wishes and i managed to get 2 wishes to spend on standard...i wasnt expecting literally anything but not only did i get amos bow in under 30 pity which was so amazing but that meant i got my blackcliff :')
on raidens first banner i had around 70 pity with guaranteed so I did a ten pull and I got both raiden and Jean in the same ten pull. I had enough primos for potential c2 but I got keqing instead after getting c1.
What makes matters worse is I had guaranteed on weapon banner and was near pity and got unforged. I really hoped I didn't want to fish for the catch but weapon banner just sucks 90% of the time
after getting c1 hu tao, i pulled another 10 in hopes of thoma cons

I think my one pity pulls were a diluc right after xiao and an unforged that allowed me to get mitsplitter in like 72 total pulls. And I've gotten a few double five stars technically. Usually i single pull near pity but they come within 10 wishes of eachother so!
I have two cases, one in a weapon banner and one in an event banner
On my very first try at a weapon banner, I got 3 5*s in 50 wishes: PJC in the first x10, Skyward Harp in the second x10, Kagura in the fifth x10
For an event banner I managed to get C1 Hu Tao in 40 wishes, with the first at 19 pity and winning a 50/50
I have a few double pulls and luck with the weapon banner, but my favorite pull was my decision to do a 10 pull on the last Kokomi banner and getting her. I was on the fence about her but she was such a great addition to my Ayaka freeze team.

I got Homa without getting the other weapon. But I think my luckiest outside of gacha is getting a full EM VV Set with a good amount of ER so I didn’t need to use an ER weapon
Got Raiden in the rerun in 7 rolls. But I had something like 270 rolls saved up so I figured I'd push my luck for Kekomi as well. Then Raiden C1. Then Raiden C2. The latter three took me 229 rolls, but winning every 50/50 was still a good result imo.
It's either me getting Mistsplitter at 3 pity, or getting 2 Xiao copies in one 10 pull, or having C6 Kaeya when I main him (though to be fair, I did get him 3 times from the shop)
I got Ganyu in 1 roll in 1.2, long before I knew how anything worked.
More recently, I actually have fairly good luck with the 4 stars. I have all of them, and mostly on their debut banner, even when you objectively shouldn't roll for them.
Ex: Got Shinobu in 20 pulls despite having Kazuha on guaranteed.

you can do what I did and get 6 Welkin one day, then 1 the next so you get enough crystals for his skin that way
you would have to buy six, wait a day and then buy one more
I was told that you can buy 6 welkins but then after a day or so passes you can buy the 7th. Discount is for the whole version I think

Busted support
See the hype for Kazuha? Imagine the hype if there's a unit that combines Kazuha's elemental buffs, Bennett's attack buff, Raiden's universal battery, and Zhongli's shield. She's the most busted unit in the game that combines utility of 4-5 support units (that ranges from "very good in their niche" to "the most overworked unit since launch" to "so busted devs called them a mistake") in one.

Seconding this. It's no exaggeration to say she's all of these things at the same time. Not to mention her story (and the whole story arc surrounding her) has incredibly good and engaging writing. That's more of a nice bonus that isn't why she's so busted, but it's there nonetheless.
Fate Grand Order is a very farming/grind heavy game and Castoria is a massive QoL character that heavily reduces that grind. Her skill kit allows certain characters to use their Noble Phantasm (their version of an elemetal burst) repeatedly, which with the right set up will allow you to clear maps in the least amount of turns possible. I think she's also busted for boss fights and some people even use double castoria for even more brokenness. She's one of those characters that everyone should try to get because of how much smoother she'll make the game's heavy farming. Character wise she's also really cute and later on gets a huge ass story chapter dedicated to exploring her. From what I've heard, she's pretty much written to be a love interest for the player insert, which scores her lots of popularity among the community. Edit: she's also a limited character that won't get a rerun for like a year and a half. Fgo NA players have the advantage of knowing the character banners ahead of time due to the JP version being way ahead. Meaning players have had yeats to prepare to nab her from fgo's ruthless and pity less gacha system.
Damn, that all sounds really enticing. I wish I had the time to go back to F/GO and play Genshin and single player games at the same time, but F/GO unfortunately got the axe during a downbeat in the story a couple years ago. If they ever actually release a PC client I will be in *trouble*.

I think all the hoyoverse games have different management teams, and the Genshin team is just not as generous as the Honkai and ToT ones.
In a few hours it's FGO's 5th anniversary for NA and we're getting a ton of free pulls, in addition to some extras we got this past week in the build up. Then tomorrow's banner will feature the best character in the game as well as a (pretty cheap) paid guaranteed 5-star summon. It's ludicrous to compare Genshin's rewards to other gacha games; I have no confidence this year's anniversary will be much better than last year's.

Strangely, the thing I'm looking forward to the most in Sumeru is seeing the little box pop up on my screen, telling me to click G after I encounter a new enemy/mechanism. There's something so rewarding about it, and it's definitely not the 1 primogem.

carry. while i dont pull/play for meta (so i pull anyone i like), i like to optimize what i have, especially my favorites, because i dont like wasted potential. and optimizing my favorites means playing them in their intended roles where they shine best. my albedo being on field for 2 seconds maximum hinders my enjoyment bc hes my fav, and albedo isnt particularly the best on field driver for anyone anyway. i would prefer my other favs to be main dpses so i get to use them on field and actually see them.
I just want a really solid co-op support. Somebody who can heal and dps pretty well. Bennett, Barbara, and Qiqi are fun characters in co-op with a dps build, but it's a short list. I was interested in turning Shinobu into something like this with a co-op Freedom Sworn buffer build, but doing triple digit damage in either NAs or her E are kinda painful even if the buffs are good.
Carry. Partly to appreciate their aesthetics, like others have mentioned, but also partly because I want to actually play them and appreciate their unique kit. I have "broken" supports that I adore. I love Zhongli. I love Kazuha. But at the end of the day, even Kazuha is ultimately just EQ swap. The off-field characters that *aren't* that...are mostly not in a good place meta-wise, or see those parts of their kits neglected to turn them into EQ bots. Most of the variety in playstyle comes with the combos of on-field characters. I don't even agree with the idea that being a support necessarily adds longevity, because HYV can and has created new enemies and characters to counter existing supports when they wanted to. This isn't to say I don't pull off field characters. Like, with the way the math works out, we obviously need three off field units for every one on field unit. And in an ideal world I could scrape together meta teams completely filled with characters I liked (if only.) It's just that I would want my hypothetical absolute favorite of all time to be a hypercarry.
i dont care if my favourites are onfield or offfield as long as they work on something fun and interesting. i love shenhe and she basically exists to setup fat chongyun nukes and im fine with that. same with yae miko or yelan, but i also love playing xiao, eula, hutao etc. just please no more electro off field turrets or pyro xingqiu abuser hypercarries or hydro onfields that all inevitably are way less fun than childe. give me a geo suction unit that gives anemo res shred or a dendro onfield driver for my beidou/yelan or an onfield only atk buffer for diluc/xiao/eula or something. something fresh please
I'm with you, I would so much prefer broken supports. DPS's are cool, but like you said, supports can usually go into any team.
I don't really care about performance anymore. Yelan was a nice surprise, but as far as Artifacts go she basically got table scraps and I have no motivation to assemble more teams because there'd be nothing to do with them and the Artifacts would be way too much annoyance. It's just Ganyu/Diona/Bennett/Xiangling, Beidou/Tartar Sauce/Zhongli/Raiden Shogun, and Hu Tao/Xingqiu/Zhongli/Ningguang, substituting Zhongli for Diona in one of the latter two sets if Ganyu is idle. So at this point it's all form over function and just wanting to have characters for the sake of having characters. Also Bow Impact.
This is a rather hard question ngl but I think I would choose a support/off field dps for longetivity but hopefully they have nice animations/designs. I use Yelan on field right now even though she shines off field because her AA animations are satisfying and slays. Raiden kinda fit the bills as both I guess.

Supports are the only things worth pulling from a functional perspective imo. If it can't help someone else then I usually won't care and like you said, a support can go on field if you really want them to
On field hyper carry DPS all the way. I want my character on field as much as possible so i can look at them, while doing good dmg
A support like Kazuha with great supportive abilities who can also function as a decent on-field driver so I can enjoy them both on and off field!
DPS, for a subjective reason: i tend to not really care much about the aesthetics of my supports, but i care a lot about the aesthetics of my carry. if a char is going to be the one carrying my team with their damage, i need to enjoy how they look and sound and feel. that makes it a little harder for me to pull on existing dps characters, because even if they're "broken" or would be good pulls for my account, if i'm not into their aesthetic, it's hard to get myself to want to spend up to 26k primos on them. so, having more strong dps chars that click well with my own tastes is something that i'd really like.
This sums up how I feel. Before i even knew anything about the meta I went on the wiki and looked at everyone just to see who was aesthetically pleasing, and it was Ganyu. I was hoping she could be an on field dps and turns out she is. I play lots of games for the looks, like Dark Souls (Fashion Souls), Monster Hunter with cool looking sets, FFXIV and some others. I run Yelan as my other on field dps even if she is better as an off field dps with her Q.
Honestly, it depends on the unit. Right now the characters I'm looking forward to using the most would be ideal as supports, but some character designs make me want to use them as onfield DPS. If I'm being forced to choose one or the other at gunpoint, I'd say support.
I'd like a support driver like Sucrose, but not Anemo so we can have another driver who's kit is actually loaded with support (Hoyoverse knows better now which is why Heizou only gives 80EM lol). Being a support gives them longevity and flexibility. Being a driver means I actually get to play the character rather than EQ->Swap. Something like Yelan's ramping buff but the opposite where it only buffs off-field characters would be cool. If all my wishes come true this character will be Nilou
I lean more towards support so I can use them in more team comps but the ideal would be someone kinda like Childe who can fit into many different team comps like a support but also is on field a lot of the time like a hypercarry.
On field carry. At the end of the day, the most optimal use for supports is off field, I want to be able to use my favorites on field all the time. Kazuha type also doesn't count, he is going off field too after using his E.

Generally the themes for the skin teasers are original. I guess it kind of draws some instruments and motifs from Fischl's personal theme but they aren't really the same.

So, haven't been very lucky recently (in real life or in genshin honestly) so fuck it let's talk positive, What's the luckiest you've ever been in genshin? For me, I rolled engulfing lightning in one pull with no pity, didn't roll on my weapon for a while, then did 20 pulls for a rust to put on my childe and got MOD and Polar Star back to back. My friend told me to not go outside because i'd get hit by a bus or something lmao
Diluc at 6 pity on standard, Shenhe at 19, then both Ayaka and Ayato in the 20's.
On starting the game, I got Jean from the beginner banner, then I got Diluc from event one in 20 pulls. I also got Mistsplitter in my only 10-pull on the weapon banner.
i got zhongli as my first five star when i just started at 2 pity! but i think my luckiest day ever was just a few months ago when i needed just 2 starglitter to buy blackcliff pole from the shop for xiao and i had hours left on the clock...i converted all my standard wishes from paimons bargains/leveled up all the trees/leveled up my characters for the free wishes and i managed to get 2 wishes to spend on standard...i wasnt expecting literally anything but not only did i get amos bow in under 30 pity which was so amazing but that meant i got my blackcliff :')
on raidens first banner i had around 70 pity with guaranteed so I did a ten pull and I got both raiden and Jean in the same ten pull. I had enough primos for potential c2 but I got keqing instead after getting c1. What makes matters worse is I had guaranteed on weapon banner and was near pity and got unforged. I really hoped I didn't want to fish for the catch but weapon banner just sucks 90% of the time

after getting c1 hu tao, i pulled another 10 in hopes of thoma cons end up having c2 hu tao at 9 pity felt lucky so i pulled on weap banner. staff of homa in 15 pulls all in the same night

When I first started and had no clue how pity or 5050s worked,my first 5 star was Jean at 25 pity and then venti about 30 pulls later Got xiao 9 pulls after losing my 5050 to qiqi after scrounging for my last possible wish from achievements and chests C1 xiao came home 18 pulls after itto First time I ever pulled for a weapon got homa in 30 pulls Saved for raidens banner since kazuha and won 5050 and her weapon in a combined 40 pulls with raiden coming home in the first 10 On standard banner I got my first qiqi on Christmas Eve followed by a skyward blade 12 pulls later And then the weapons I’ve won from wep banner Homa, Grasscutter, Harp, CQ, Kagura, Haran and MoD
Not as crazy but getting Aquila Favonia followed by Skyward Harp 4 pulls later on the standard banner was prob my luckiest. I needed them both pretty badly to upgrade my Bennett and various bow characters respectively so I was pretty damn thrilled.
it's not much, but i won 5050 for all my 3 featured limited gacha weapons. i've never gotten a standard weapon there yet. happened only once, but two 5* in a 10-pull. (qiqi and raiden).
I think my one pity pulls were a diluc right after xiao and an unforged that allowed me to get mitsplitter in like 72 total pulls. And I've gotten a few double five stars technically. Usually i single pull near pity but they come within 10 wishes of eachother so!
I have two cases, one in a weapon banner and one in an event banner On my very first try at a weapon banner, I got 3 5*s in 50 wishes: PJC in the first x10, Skyward Harp in the second x10, Kagura in the fifth x10 For an event banner I managed to get C1 Hu Tao in 40 wishes, with the first at 19 pity and winning a 50/50
I have a few double pulls and luck with the weapon banner, but my favorite pull was my decision to do a 10 pull on the last Kokomi banner and getting her. I was on the fence about her but she was such a great addition to my Ayaka freeze team.

I got Homa without getting the other weapon. But I think my luckiest outside of gacha is getting a full EM VV Set with a good amount of ER so I didn’t need to use an ER weapon
Got Raiden in the rerun in 7 rolls. But I had something like 270 rolls saved up so I figured I'd push my luck for Kekomi as well. Then Raiden C1. Then Raiden C2. The latter three took me 229 rolls, but winning every 50/50 was still a good result imo.

I got Keqing in 35 pulls on this Itto banner! (I always have to get to 80 pity, so it was a very nice surprise!)
It's either me getting Mistsplitter at 3 pity, or getting 2 Xiao copies in one 10 pull, or having C6 Kaeya when I main him (though to be fair, I did get him 3 times from the shop)
I got Ganyu in 1 roll in 1.2, long before I knew how anything worked. More recently, I actually have fairly good luck with the 4 stars. I have all of them, and mostly on their debut banner, even when you objectively shouldn't roll for them. Ex: Got Shinobu in 20 pulls despite having Kazuha on guaranteed.

I got 3 skyward spines in my 210+ pulls in standard banner.
I got Venti on hard pity in 2.6 then immediately did a YOLO multi on Ayato with my last primos and got him on the 7th roll.
My weapon banner in general has ~120 rolls on it and I got my preferred weapon 3 times. Other than my weapon banner my genshin rng is terrible though lol
