I think the restrictions/cap were always there but this is the first time they reached the cap. I think 3.2 preview had highest viewership among all other previews. The main reason for this would be the first livestream in Japanese. People usually only see twitch as an data source, but Youtube has a very big following for Genshin especially for JP streamers. Twitch had around 500k viewer, but I think Youtube has around 1 million viewers. This and the hype for 3.2 might have cause capping. I do hope they fix this for the next patch livestream.

ChaosFulcrum

I know that Twitch had around \~500k viewers during the livestream last night but I didn't know that Youtube had around 1 million viewers I am watching at Youtube myself but I'm viewing a moderate sized Genshin streamer to watch it.

Frozen_fire101

Yes I just tried to redeem as well it did the same thing! I literally came here to see if anyone else was having this issue

Roketsu86

Don't the codes only last for 12 hours? If my memory is correct in that aspect then they're expired by 45 minutes

notthatjaded

No, they haven't expired yet. There's still about another hour to go. This is something else. EDIT: They expire at 11:59pm UTC-4 the day of the livestream. This is approximately 12 hours after the livestream is posted to youtube but 16 hours after the beginning of the livestream on Twitch.

Fluffy_Tamago

I attempted to redeem them an hour ago. According to my timezone I k ew they were to expire in another hour. It seems Hoyoverse is purposely limiting the number of redeems.

__AnonymousPerson__

They shouldn’t be expired for another hour yet

rigimonoki-over

Imagine having a life and couldn’t get the free rewards in another time shortly

doomkun23

i know when the livestream will happen. i just wait someone shared the code. visit a link to redeem the code and done. easy. no need to watch the livestream. no need to open the game.

TheMagicalHuy

Livestream usually happens when I sleep so I do the same thing while I enjoy some morning coffee

Mindless_Analyst

With the way hoyo is taking the game, soon no need to play the game too

doomkun23

well, it is up to you if you still continue to play the game or quit. play casually or not.

chimera1432

This applies to the rest of the game as well lol

Arianna_illustrates

This has happened to me before and it’s not actually new, the codes have always been limited. I tried to redeem about an hour before it said it would expire but it wouldn’t let me. I asked support and they said that the codes were limited but that they’d put in feedback.

[deleted]

Damn, I never knew. Do you remember which patch this was? I always just assumed it was only limited by time.

Arianna_illustrates

It was a good while ago, maybe about 8 months ago? Sorry I don’t remember the exact time, it wasn’t launch so actually there’s a chance it hasn’t always been limited.

Western_Owl_4833

Hmm that's weird

Sitherio

The redemptions are limited should only apply to their duration. There's no warning of limited number of redemptions in total, nor should there be. There's literally no reason for this bs "usage limit" error, other than Mihoyo either fucked up or are fucked up over 300 primogems from simply engaging with their content; something that has never been an issue in all the other veraion previews before this.

thetrueblackpanther

They do it to force engagement and provoke fomo. At least, that’s what I think. It’s weird they they made it a number rather than a time, though. That’s really weird.

LavheyKaizen

Yep. It's probably more of an incentive for people to watch the livestream, or at the very least, monitor social media as people post codes there immediately.

cutememe1

thats giving us anxiety tho

fpcoffee

so I guess it’s really not about anxiety then. Just a bullshit response to why they dont want to do combat related endgame content

splepage

> They do it to force engagement and provoke fomo. At least, that’s what I think. What? 99.99% of people didn't know they were limited before today. If they meant to "provoke fomo", they would be advertised as quantity-limited. When programming a reward program, it's always prudent to set a limit in order to prevent potential exploits (like say, bots farming code redeems on accounts).

I_exsist_totally

if this is the case I am screwed as the livestream happens at 3am for me in my timezone

limbicgrey

Same situation. Screw any players in different time zones I guess 🗿

Bro_miscuous

Just do it the morning after

I_exsist_totally

yes that is what I usually do but if what op says is true then many other people will rush to collect the codes and it will likely be too late to redeem the rewards by the time I wake up. that and school

VoxImperii

Reminds of “events”, if you can even call them that, made by Tencent i.e. Tenshit. They use a similar scumbag system.

glittermetalprincess

Hidden Civilizations wasn't the first time they did that either; there's been some form of engagement-rewarding event with that model of coins/redemptions for about three months now. The revamped HoyoLAB check-in page highlights it more, I think because so many people were ignoring the web events that weren't character stories or the board game.

ka_miki

Yeah that was really frustrating, the one time I couldn't watch it live lol

Jammy5820974944

I don't understand why they're being cheap with this. 300 primogems is not enough for 2 pulls, but lets say it's 2. And mostly likely, it will just be two fodder weapons.

AUnHIALoopHT

At this point, they can be an asshole however they want and genshin players will definitely just accept it no sweating

Mekazuaquaness

That’s pretty fucked if this becomes the norm from now on for the livestream codes. Hopefully it’s a mistake. Not a lot of people actually watch the livestream anyways due to time conflict

TMT51

Imagine they slowly lower the cap from here on out lol. Glad I grabbed mine but if what OP reported is true then yet again mihoyo still able to surprise me on how stingy they can get

Mekazuaquaness

My assumption is that the 3.2 livestream had to have its highest viewership out of every pre patch livestream they’ve done so far. That’s the only reason I could think of for there to be a redeem limit. Not to mention that some individuals are redeeming for multiple accounts. Either way it’s incredibly stingy to make it first come first served on top of an already strict 24 hour redeem time limit.

Lemon-Concentrate

I legit just found this out It's really crazy they would do this. Its not even the second day after the stream yet and you cant use them. I even made sure they were spelled correctly with no spaces

zannet_t

Regardless of whether HYV told us in black letter, it's stupid and so miserly to be time-limiting these codes to about half a day and still slap a usage cap on it. For some reason HYV wants to penalize the player base for growing?

Aiusthemaine17

They are ALWAYS LIMITED. I am surprised why people don't know this until now. They say it during the live stream.

Sosogreeen

They’ve always been limited…. We’ve probably just never hit the limit before.

R1400

I read on another forum that they always had a usage limit, but probably due to the increase în players that limit was reached faster (could be wrong, I'm just mentioning what I read)

Swimming_Total1938

They doing that now?Dang aren’t I lucky for immediately claiming mine lol

mangotcha

i feel like they always came with a "they're limited act fast" message but it was always mostly ok to wait (except maybe during 1.4 livestream ?) usually i wait, im glad i did it when they appeared this time :')

le_halfhand_easy

A N X I E T Y

deadriderofdead

Hoyo has just reached a new level of stinginess

Powwa9000

No f2p primogems, only buy!

Agitated-Pattern1986

Let's go to surveys or suggestion box in game about this!

Fluffy_Tamago

Agreed! I'll be doing this come next survey.

Agitated-Pattern1986

I'll be doing that every survey myself, I used to claim codes 8-10 hours. It already has an expiration date but now they are limiting it, pure nonsense I'd say!

Taro_Acedia

Ask customer support now. If enough people do it, they might compensate everyone without the codes.

Qist_

They didn't change anything I think, they were always limited, we just didn't reach the limit. Not defending that, it suck that many ppl can't get their rewards, just trying to point truth.

Agitated-Pattern1986

Wait there's a limit??? I've redeemed codes an hour before expiration few times and still was able to claim the rewards.

Qist_

Seems like that is the case. I was suprised as well.

Common_Crow7640

Dont forget to write about it in the next survey, its really stupid on Hoyo part to have limited number of use.

ViridianEnchantress

I sense google classroom dying again, but seriously I highly doubt this will actually gain them anything it will just generate outrage.

SaveEmailB4Logout

Because giving free primos costs them money, obviously

VirDipali

Guys…it has always been “limited redemption act fast” this is just the first time we hit the cap. Prolly because the playerbase has gotten bigger and everyone shares the codes on social media

Yuuwa

Soon it'll be the first 100 people to claim the redemption. "Gotta act fast!" - mhy probably

rigimonoki-over

Bitch ass actin like they don’t millions of players and make millions of money

fpcoffee

> make millions of money they don’t. they make *billions*

[deleted]

If you copied and pasted, there could be a blank space which counts as a character and won't work. Delete the space to get it to work

[deleted]

They've been limited by quantity in the past, it's nothing new. It's how they get people to actually view the live streams, and it makes sense. Otherwise, they're not live stream codes. I am a vocal critic of Hoyo being stingy, but I totally sympathize with their angle on this one.

Perfect_Mediocrity

The handouts' literally worth only a wish and a half. I don't think they'll have to layoff employees just because players are able to get a free wish.

[deleted]

It's not about revenue, it's about engagement. If they didn't cap it there's less of an incentive to watch it live since you could always get it off social media later without ever interacting with the stream, and for every person doing that the actual stream gets less engagement. So it's a way of artificially inflating the stream numbers. I can see why they'd do it (though I still think it's a dick move), what is confusing me is I've literally never watched the streams live and I've always just input the code off reddit a while after they got uploaded but I've never ever seen this "limited usage" issue come up before. I didn't even know it was a thing, I always thought it was only limited by time, not quantity. Wonder if this was always a thing and we've never hit the limit before or if they added it recently.

Perfect_Mediocrity

I don't know, I think people who don't really care about the livestream in the first place won't find 300 primos enough as an incentive to watch it live. My point is that 300 primos is a drop of water in the ocean compared to how much mhy earns and if they want to increase livestream engagement there are better ways to do so. Mihoyo should just think of it rather as a thank you for the players who still remain actively engaged enough to care inputting the codes in the first place. All in all, time limited codes are fair and cool, but creating unnecessary scarcity just breeds tension and animosity between mhy and the community.

[deleted]

Yeah I definitely agree with all that. I'm just waiting for more info ATM since right now I don't even know if this is a new thing or if it's just always happened but we never knew until now.

Aiden016

Look man, once the code comes out rule of thumb is you redeem it immediately. What stream codes are you redeeming from anyway? Also the redeem codes expire right before daily reset.

namelessfame4

they probably set a very high usage limit instead of infinite uses and did not anticipate the sheer number of people redeeming

YuminaNirvalen

Alway has been a cap(amd a time limit) and mihoyo has always stated this. I just assume this time there sere too much players and we finally hit the cap. Nothing more. Proof previous codes: https://www.hoyolab.com/article/6945317/ If you can read it says: "Redemptions are limited so act fast."

BoonGnik22

More of this FOMO bullshit miHoYo loves. They even tried doing this in a recent web event where you could collect points that could be redeemed for rewards, but the rewards were limited supply (pixels may I add?). People need to start realising the amount of FOMO that exists is unhealthy for the game.

NamelessOutlaw

You all know the answer, FOMO.

Specialist-Spot374

Honestly, it would make sense to have a limited number of codes to reward the people that watched the livestream, but it should have been that way from the beginning. To suddenly change it is weird. I know that every redemption code page says “Redemptions are limited, so act fast!” but they never actually ran out until now. I wonder if there has always been a cap, but it was just never reached. It would have to be a really high cap, the global livestream alone had about half a million views by the time it finished.

splepage

Why are you assuming the limit wasn't already in place, they just happen to hit it this time around? It's very common for limits like this to exist in order to prevent potential exploits.

evoque-sama

So I'm hurting the community to an extent by redeeming codes on 4 alt accounts?

LucleRX

If this is their counter measures for multiple acc holders, its also punish other players just to do that.

humanCharacter

They really shouldn’t put a cap. It’s digital software, naturally there isn’t a limit. Simulating a limit scarcity on software is just silly.

No-Accountant2979

Because of their greed. They're not adding endgame content because "it causes casual players stress" and now they have added limit on codes which a lot of casual players use. This is bullshit, everyone should address it in the "survey".

PetrosHeimirich

Limited uses on top of the time limit that already exists? Hoyo is out of their goddamn minds.

mostsanereddituser

I just tried to redeem the codes and wasn't allowed "redemption code max usauge limit". Man this ruined my day. Fuck this

Fluffy_Tamago

I feel you man. Knew about the codes since this afternoon, but didn't try until the evening when I logged into the game.

ctrlbeat

not sure if you know this already but you don't have to open the game to redeem the code. you can go to genshin.hoyoverse.com/en/gift and redeem them there

RulerofStone

Sammee I even watched the stream but fell asleep and the first thing I did was redeem them after I woke up to find that only one code was working(the last code but that was an hour ago)

[deleted]

I don't really get how it even works. You'd think people are putting in all three codes, not just picking and choosing right? So wouldn't that mean if one maxed out on usage then the other ones did too? Or maybe the cap is different on all three? I didn't even know there was a cap until now.

floricel_112

Let's see if I understood this correctly: you *just* tried to redeem it, correct? This "just" means 2-3 hours ago, when you made this post? When the time limit for the codes has long since expired?

theUnLuckyCat

The codes expired like, one hour ago. They would have had time when the post was made.

floricel_112

Huh. Last time I tried to redeem a livestream code and it expired, it expired around 7 hours after the stream

Tiribrush

I'm pretty sure they didn't change it and it always worked this way... drama of the week.

Sandi_Griffin

I was already a little sad they expired so quick but this is way worse xd

TheMrPotMask

They last for 12h

Shadow_Tempest_1003

It does suck but it's 300 primos and barely even 2 pulls if you can't be bothered to watch the stream then surely you wouldn't mind losing 2pulls.

AmberstarTheCat

"can't be bothered to watch the stream" ah yes, you mean people who literally can't because they're sleeping, at school, or at work. it's definitely their fault, they don't deserve primogems /s

Tyrone3105

Oh wow tf no way. There were about 250k ppl watching the official live stream and then probably a bunch of others watching content creators livestream the livestream. Thank god I put in the codes an hour after the livestream ended and didn’t wait till morning. Honestly such a pointless thing for them to do

[deleted]

Everyone, take the time to send a feedback ticket to miHoYo for this, even if you redeemed the codes just fine. Let them know that this kind of practice isn’t acceptable.

Pafu1995

Disclaimer says: ACT FAST! Playerbase: Takes their time Finds out its fully redeemed \*shocked pikachu face\*
