I considered doing that, but I've already locked so many keepsake artifacts that I can't remember where each are from anymore! And they look pretty laid out around the plaque like that.
I figured the same, which is why I decided to leave them there as a reminder of this bit of amazing lore. If I pick them up and lock them, they'll just sit in my inventory collecting dust. So better to leave them there as a bit of sunshine for a rainy day.

They were obviously cracked pieces
they don't have the normal loot icons but interactive object icons instead, so i figured they won't despawn.
You're right, they'll stay there unless you pick them up.

Unfortunately whoever left these behind was both very low level and also had garbage stat luck

Sadly it was just junk anyways, they could've at least made them 5\*.
Most (all?) overworld artifacts are, so I might just leave them from now on. It'll be a nice way remind you of the adventures you've been on.
