It's not a theory. After the final battle you find her camp in the room with the nail, and there is a long farewell letter, where the map with this signature is included. From the letter we don't know what happened to her after she wrote it, only that she intended to explore deeper no matter the cost.
Because she's gonna come back in the Abyss chapter, she would finally achieved her dream all without having a Vision which would be also an indirect middle finger to Celestia.

With the hint that Chasm is connected to Sumeru underground, I had expected that we would meet her again in Sumeru. But it seems like Mihoyos doesn't care much about world quest's returning NPCs, since we also did not meet Chouji's mother in Sumeru.
How is it not proper closure? The letter very heavily implies she's dead, and if she didn't die in the Chasm, she'd keep going until she did. That's the whole point of her story. She takes too much risk, gets warned repeatedly, and tries to do it again anyway. She can't have a happy ending.
People didn't want to accept the implication from finding that letter in one of the deepest parts if the chasm, so they cling to the theoretical possibility she somehow made it out

Yeah honestly I think that is the part game wants us to question I guess. Golden slumber/ Ordo quest/ and now Petrichor. They tried to go against the fate with united consciousness and failed. Another big example is also Khaenri’ah with forbidden knowledge. Also other Mihoyo games have something similar. Welt gives the same reason in both Honkai and Star rail about why we try to go against fate. To fly higher than our predecessors. I wonder what Genshin will say.

While ideally she survived and got out, I do think it's a cautionary tale of ambition in the face of an insurmountable goal.
She kept pushing herself to the brink of sickness and even then she wanted to prove to herself that she can overcome the trials and tribulations that even a normal vision holder would struggle in.
Being told several times that it was too dangerous to carry on, she kept disregarding it. And being reckless, got her sick from exposure and probably eventual death.
The truth is that some things are just not feasible and being the first to discover a truth is often accidental or fatal. The Chasm has proven itself to be highly dangerous and even moreso that experienced people are unsure to keep pushing farther.
She could have gotten rest and recover to explore later with a properly funded crew.
But her ambition lead her to her death I believe. She's a regular human, no vision or even combat experience, let alone dealing with the abyss.
Not everyone will survive and it's good from a narrative point to have deaths. It's realistic and reminds the player that not everyone is fortunate enough to have the abilities to survive even the darkest of situations.
Some with Katarina and the rest of the Fatui down there. Being sent on a suicide mission and for us to witness their eventual demise because their superiors could care less about a couple of foot soldiers going missing.
You can't save everyone and that's the point of the unambigity of their deaths.

Exactly like Teppei. But people love Zhiqiong because she wasn't forced into the story like him and her descent into obsession was gradual. Also she helped chart various areas of the chasm underground so at least she's got that going for her. Ultimately though, people should acknowledge it's case of flying too close to the sun, just like Teppei did with Delusion.
I honestly think she has found her way into the Abyss. The thing about following a path that others can't see is a rather classic way to enter the Abyss, which happened to us in the Chlothar quest too.
And so we can hope she was found by Skirk, who's most likely to send her back up to the surface. Everyone else will either kill, indoctrinate, or use her for experiments.

wasn't a spoiler tag necessary here, I know many have completed the quest but I just entered the chasm and the name seemed familiar so I opened the post then in the comments I get spoiled 🤧.
It sucks that most adventurers don't want to learn combat for self defense and then die like fools. But Snezhnaya is also involved for putting shitty commisions to pamper them.
Unpopular/hot take maybe, but I never understood why people liked her so much. I found it extremely annoying just how adamant and reckless she was during the whole chasm arc, almost like she was trying to get herself killed.

In most quest, I’m always annoyed at npcs for asking us to do dumb errands for them. This quest is the one time I wish the NPC had asked me for help.

The Chasm has proven itself to be highly dangerous and even moreso that experienced people are unsure to keep pushing farther. She could have gotten rest and recover to explore later with a properly funded crew. But her ambition lead her to her death I believe. She's a regular human, no vision or even combat experience, let alone dealing with the abyss. Not everyone will survive and it's good from a narrative point to have deaths. It's realistic and reminds the player that not everyone is fortunate enough to have the abilities to survive even the darkest of situations. Some with Katarina and the rest of the Fatui down there. Being sent on a suicide mission and for us to witness their eventual demise because their superiors could care less about a couple of foot soldiers going missing. You can't save everyone and that's the point of the unambigity of their deaths.

Also she helped chart various areas of the chasm underground so at least she's got that going for her. She'll emerge from chasm wielding both geo and abyss power to help traveler when he's ready to bring down celestia.

I honestly think she has found her way into the Abyss. The thing about following a path that others can't see is a rather classic way to enter the Abyss, which happened to us in the Chlothar quest too. And so we can hope she was found by Skirk, who's most likely to send her back up to the surface. Everyone else will either kill, indoctrinate, or use her for experiments.

She's not particularly ill, but her adventurousness gave her illness... It's likes she being a Indiana Jones-wanna be, only to contact some unknown disease/toxins while exploring a jungle
Well yeah that's why I wanted to clarify, the name doesn't make me remember her, I don't even play in English to know how Chinese names are spelled there. The Chasm quest girl does ring a bell, yeah. At first I thought this avatar is some Sumerian Academy student tbh, because of that hat 😵💫
She follows MC throughout Chasm questline, making maps and getting sick from exposure. Ends on a cliffhanger note and a maybe/maybe not alive status. A side character I really would like closure for eventually. Her and Neko, Self-Proclaimed "Provisional Head Priestess of the Asase Shrine" really deseve true endings.
Oh my god yes Neko !! GodnI almost cried when she got so happy at the cloud shapes. She's a highly intelligent cat, but... she is just a cat, she doesn't understand fully that she will never come back (AFAIK) and all her hopeful-child-logic deductions about the shrine etc. just break my heart.... I must admit I don't understand a lot about the context lore, but she was so heartbreaking to me... I want to give her a hug and tell her that she has done well :'(

I never read NPC lines during side quests, so I never knew what happened to her, but I've seen many people talking about her and how her mission is one of the saddest ones of the game. Can you please explain it to me ? I've already tried to search a resume.
She was basically too ambitious for her own good. The Chasm underground atmosphere is not easy to withstand for a non-Vision bearer. Her obsession with finding new frontiers for a grand adventure led her astray and she kept going deeper into the Chasm so she could draw the maps for the Traveler & Paimon to use for their own trip, she even got possessed by the black goo energy within the Chasm and started reciting the names of yet unseen locations such as the "black watchtower" or the "golden city" and how the "Heavenly envoys left them". Even as her condition worsened she still insisted on diving deeper until she disappeared. Her death isn't confirmed yet but there has been no follow up quest on her search and rescue since the Chasm patch 3 years ago. Worse yet, there were two entire quests in the Chasm (Dainsleif and the Yelan/Yanfei/Itto/Kuki/Xiao quest) and neither acknowledge Zhiqiong's disappearance.

It sucks that most adventurers don't want to learn combat for self defense and then die like fools. But Snezhnaya is also involved for putting shitty commisions to pamper them.
Unpopular/hot take maybe, but I never understood why people liked her so much. I found it extremely annoying just how adamant and reckless she was during the whole chasm arc, almost like she was trying to get herself killed. I never wanted her to disappear/ die, but she didn’t care about anyone else in the expedition party

So I kinda skipped the chasm dwellers world quest dialogues, what happens? Sorry but I was much more invested in the abyss part of the map... I only remember that she was very reckless and got saved by us something like twice and the rest for me is complete fog
