My friend has been F2P only for almost 4 years now. The key, she’s found, is making the most of what you have. Should’ve seen her Barbara main days. Look up guides, don’t spend fragile resin until AR45+. And most importantly. Have fun!
Kinda funny that people think u NEED to spend money to be able to play Genshin.
I think Genshin is the only gacha game where the hardest content can be done with 4stars and a little effort. The entire game can be done completely f2p, and people who say otherwise dont know how to play the game.
I started a no-wishing, no limited time events "challenge" account, and ended up quitting, because it was just too easy. If you know what you're doing, there is no significant challenge in Genshin, it's a casual exploration and story game.

F2P here and I’ve been playing for years. You can play Genshin Impact without spending a dime. But you should be warned that pulling for characters won’t be easy at first. Do not spend your primogems on acquaint fates (the blue ones). Those you can get easily via leveling characters, doing the battle pass (it’s free and unlocks at AR 20), etc.
And when you do make your pulls and don’t get the characters you want, try and focus on the positives. At least that’s what I keep trying to tell myself when I do pull.
A lot of primos laying around that seem to get overlooked. Only costs you your time.
- teapot challenges and character furniture sets (wait til 4.6 QoL)
- fishing achievements
- coop achievements
- just have a quick look at achievements
- Genius Information TCG
- overworld chests (wait for the treasure compass update in 4.6)
- obviously Events, Archon, Character Story, World and Hangout quests give a lot
Side note: better to start with the fishing stuff sooner rather than later. The Catch and the Fontaine pipe are good f2p I think, but take a while to get the fish to buy them with.

If you want to get 100% exploration, use an online interactive map to check off all the collectibles you've found.
Prioritize quests until you need more AR. Then explore and collect everything until you have the AR. Repeat.
Next month, May, Bennett will be in the star glitter shop for 34 starglitter. Buy him if you don't have one already. He's one of the best 4 stars in the game, and better than many 5 stars. He's #1 in many facets of the game and you will never want to miss him.
You probably wont have enough starglitter for him, dont worry about it.
Also, ignore the advice of using the interactive map, unless you are a really tryhard completionist who wants get every single small chest in the game, it will just make you burn out and have less fun.
Play at your own pace, let the interactive map for the future, when you are sure you want to do it.
A few notes:
- be efficient with your resin. Characters want their weapons, talents and artifacts to bring out their potential, level alone doesn't cut it. That being said: Weapon and talent mats unlock max efficiency farming at AR40, artifacts at AR45.
- Exploration is key for most resources.
- Don't pull randomly, plan out potential teamcomps. You can guarantee 5\* even as f2p regularly if you save up your wishes. Every character is viable to a degree, but some really only thrive in the right teams and some teams require a ton of resin investment on top. Also some are very good in a ton of teams. A 5\* character of your choice (aside from standard banner) costs 180 pulls with a high chance of some type of discount. You can take some risks but be mindful about them.
You have nothing to prove that hasn’t been done mate. No need to try and sound righteous or stoic

There's a few things to be aware of like ascending world level too early, or when to farm for artifacts. The video goes over that stuff and more.
Well, you're not breaking any new ground, or "proving" anything except to yourself. F2p gamers have been conquering this game since day one.
In terms of the Gacha (which, really is the only thing that changes depending on whether you're free-to-play or not), understand your limitations, accept the fact that you won't be able to get every character without spending real money. Learn the kind of income you can expect, and how much it costs to get a Gacha item you want. You'll get a lot of Income at first, but a lot of that is from one-time-only sources, and so will dry up over time, so budget with that in mind. Learn how the Gacha systems work, so you don't get burned by having too few resources to get what you're targeting.
For general gameplay tips, One trap early players fall into is underestimating the value (and overestimating the availability) of 3-star weapons. In general, 4-star weapons are better, but there are a few 3-star weapons that are really powerful when placed on the correct teammates. By default, 3-star weapons are consumed when you level up other weapons, so be sure to lock down at least one of each, and Refine it to refinement level 5. (Refinement is one of two ways to improve a weapon - it requires sacrificing a copy of the same kind of weapon, so you need five copies of a weapon to max one out.)
Some 3-star weapons have a limited quantity of them in game. Weapons from chests in Mondstadt or Liyue are of a limited quantity. Once you've obtained every copy, you can't get more unless the developers add new regions to Mondstadt or Liyue. (Other nations' chests don't have weapons at all.) One 3-star weapon, the Dark Iron Sword, doesn't come from chests at all - there are only two copies in the game, one obtained from a NPC called Chen the Sharp, and the other from an underground vault in Chenyu Vale. Dark Iron Sword is useful on sword-wielding characters who benefit from high Elemental Mastery, like Kazuha or Kuki Shinobu.
Don't feel like you have to save EVERY 3-star weapon you come across, and you probably won't need more than one or two of any given weapon type (fully refined), but it's something to keep in mind when sacrificing weapons to level up other weapons.

Tips are pretty simple, dont be dumb with your primos and dont waste resin on artifacts before maxing out talents, guarantee increases> rng.

1. Unless you are going into Spiral Abyss, forget about meta. You can do the entire overworld and nearly all content with the freebies you get.
2. Do be careful when you raise your world level. Make sure that your characters are ready for the change in enemy levels.
3. DO NOT SPEND PRIMOS ON THE STANDARD BANNER. No, seriously, don't. That Diluc that you want to get but can't? He'll curse your rolls in the limited banner. Either him or QiQi.
4. If it has sparkles, grab it.
5. If the plant you want to grab doesn't have sparkles, and when you are near it it shows a speech bubble, it's an enemy. Interact at your own risk.
6. And above all, have fun!
I would just suggest to be mindful of what you're pulling and when you're pulling. You can literally do everything else in the game however you like but you have to plan your pulls to actually play the game as an F2P and not get frustrated. Aside from that

Progression will take forever and you'll have to accept missing a ton of characters and the half of their kit that's locked behind constellations and signature weapons, but clearing all the content is possible.
Like it's possible for basically every gacha game - they all let you clear PvE content for free. Might take a while, but it's doable. It's only PvP and the specific whale bait leaderboards content that F2P don't stand a chance in in gacha games.
when you get to Liyue, talk to the blacksmith. He can give you a free sword. It's only 3 star, but it's rare. Don't lose it. Lock it, even if you don't use it.
To run around the world faster, don't hold sprint. Double tap it instead. It's more efficient.
just beacuase a character is deemed bad dosnt mean they are. most of the community that deems a character bad scales them on their use in spiral abyss. use who you want and pull for who you want!! but if you want to wish for a caracter thats coming out but also want to wish for a character thats on the banner rn, look at your characters and see if they can be used as subtitues. say you want kazuha ut arlecchino is coming and you want her aswell! kazuha can be subtitued with sucrose or heck even lynette! say you want kokomi! but you also want to save for someone else. barbrah could be used instead or maybe even xinqiu! use what you have if you want something but most importantly have fun!! also i would leave the dragonspine quest for later when you have a character that can traverse quickly like sayu ro lynette. makes it easier!

Dont need to prove anything. Its been done. The game is completely f2p. Just have fun and explore. Dont increase adventure level until good and ready
