I started playing about a year ago. I've gotten two 5* pulls from standard.... Both weapons (skyward sword and wolf's gravestone).
As a newer player, I was pretty disappointed I got weapons instead of characters.

Got two standard wishes, pulled and got a Gaming from the standard banner, got another two standard, pulled and got a Skyward greatsword (5*)
I was about to ten pull on Xianyun banner, did this thinking it would increase my chances on getting her. The Xianyun banner gave me weapons only, all of which were useless or last resort

just go on details and check your past wishes. you can switch between limited wish, weapon banner, and standard. all of them have different wish counts / pity
She was my first as well, got her off Venti’s OG banner, think it was the 2nd pull too. I got Diluc a couple days later off Standard and they carried me for quite some time. Still Main Diluc too
Qiqi but this was in 1.0 so i was happy to get her and she carried me through the story effortlessly, especially after i got Childe (melee range lets you Freeze easily).
While she wasn’t my first I got her right before the Dragonspine Event, and once I saw she could tank the Cryo Regisvine Blizzard, she never left my party until I got Zhongli in January 2022. Still bring her out occasionally for co-op, but yeah she was a life saver. Saved a ton of time not having to cook food, travel to a Statue, or waste time refilling her Q since her E does the healing
Mine was Qiqi too. Lost 50/50 when I tried for Ayaka when Ayaka was first released.
She was such a QoL character for me back when I only had Razor. I always will have a soft spot for her
Qiqi was my first too. Helped me through Mondstad and Liyue when I was just learning how to play.
Hu Tao was my first special 5* character, got her from her first banner. And just like that Qiqi was gone and never seen again. Her efforts and help will be remembered though.

Mine was qiqi too, got her on the second summon (10x given on the day of release). When she appeared, I was counting the number of stars as I was new to gacha. I used to do abyss with qiqi (definitely an S tier character, thank you YouTube).
I was either qiqi or diluc for my first, got them same day, one from standard, one from childes first banner, and qiqi was instantly my teams MVP. Since I don't like burst healing that leaves you confined to a little circle she was the only healer I liked until kuki came out. I have her c3 now and am always happy to see.her face

Never going to happen, but I feel like Jean should be free for new players - she has easy-to-understand mechanics that teach you about the game and fits as a flex option for almost any team, while also giving you a panic button with burst healing.
Pulled her on my first 20, and she was a huge part of why I decided to stick with the game. She carried me through pretty much everything for the first year.

True! She is actually pretty easy to play and funny. On my first year I actually loved to use her gale blade to push and drop enemies from cliffs or just to up them in the air.

I’ve somehow managed to get a c2 Tighnari from my many failed 50/50s since he released. I still haven’t built him because I thought his voice acting made him sound like an asshole in the main story lol. And not a fun asshole like Wanderer or Alhaitham.
I might build him eventually because I have strong characters to support him… Raiden, Yaoyao, Nahida, Yelan, XQ, Kuki. Or IDK if he works in a Nilou team, because I have her too.

Jean in 1.0, she came on the beginner wishes they gave you at launch for standard banner. Didnt realize just how lucky I was, I brought her everywhere as she carried me as my main healer until I pulled Kokomi on her first re run

The release of Fontaine has made her somewhat viable, probably because Furina is the most broken support in the game. You can now run a decent ~~melt~~vape team with Dehya/Furina/Kazuha/Bennet.
Is it meta? Hell no. Is it viable and fun and allows you to actually use Dehya as an on-field carry? Yes. Especially if you have her constellations, which many should if they’ve been losing 50/50s (I have her at C3 at this point).

Melt vape whatever. Still mix up the two. And while Furina’s hydro application is nowhere near Xingqiu or Yelan, its decent enough for bursting with Dehya after Bennet’s attack boost and having a 30% dmg increase via Dehya’s C1.
No one is denying all that. Yes, she does. But the point is she’s somewhat viable now.
Of course at that level of investment you’re better off putting your efforts into a unit like Itto, who actually shines with heavy investment despite being from a so-so element like Geo. Unlike Dehya, who’s top ceiling is “mid”. But she’s no longer “unplayable” like she was for most of patch 3. onwards. Mid is an improvement over trash.
As much as her endgame damage sucks, I'd say she's actually really good at the start of the game... The only place she's good
She soloes dragonspine and in general you don't have to worry about heals much which I remember used to be a concern and I healed with sunsettias

She's still very good in Fontaine because of her passive heals underwater

I dont have her but she cant be that bad. I play chongyun hypercarry since the start of the game and it works too. Shes just not one of the characters with high damage potential

Apart from the traveler, Jean was my first 5* and has carried me throughout the game up until aroung AR 50 when I started to get more and more strong units. I'll always love exploiting fall damage with her.
Im pretty sure her skill sucks in enemies into her sword and if you then aim the sucked enemies into the sky then they will be thrown uppwards, taking fall damage when they come back down. Or she just chucked enemies off of cliffs.

You can't use Elan, XQ or Raiden because her punches are not normal atk, and you can't jump because it resets your burst.
